the poly drama going on these last few months is enough to make me want to never date again never enmesh myself with anyone in any capacity ever again at all, like this is actually kinda traumatizing and i just don't get a break from it bc ppl keep doing the dumbest most dubious shit that I'd expect from 17 year olds and absolutely fucking killing me in the process

Normally I don't ship any variation of the 'divorced couple' trope EXCEPT when it comes to Charles/Erik. I don't CARE about their first meeting, falling in love, etc. I want to see them as jaded divorcees and that's IT

Fun little silly thought I had about the Lair Games and specifically Leo deliberately losing is all the reasons he could have for doing so.
My favorite headcanon for his main motivation is that Splinter wasn’t proud of him anymore.
I imagine that, in the beginning, winning the Lair Games was Leo’s opportunity to shine. He wasn’t artistic or the baby of the family like Mikey, wasn’t a tech genius who created amazing inventions like Donnie, wasn’t the eldest who was insanely strong and dependable like Raph. So he had to shine somewhere else- anywhere else- and what better way to get attention than to be a winner? A champion?
And then he won too much. And it wasn’t special anymore. He got too big headed, too cocky, he knew this was his element and he ran with it.
Splinter’s words of congratulations slowly petered out. Suddenly, there was no real reason to win.
Winning feels empty when the only one cheering you on is yourself.
So- Leo schemed. And he’s a great schemer, fooling his whole family (and Donnie did deserve a win- people were way happier when he won.)
He even gave up his prized possession! His room!
Though he knows his brothers probably think it’s a bad prize. A terrible one, even.
Leo doesn’t sleep much as is, though. So Dad’s snores were more comforting than anything. It was reassuring to hear him so clearly alive and close by.
Even if the distance between them was larger than Leo’d like.
He’d just have to find something else, something more to show his dad that Leo was someone to trust, to be proud of, to love.
He gets his chance soon after, when he needs to pull off a plan against Big Mama at his dad’s side. Leo can only hope this victory is one that has a lasting effect when his father looks at him with pride once more.
Victory, for Leo, is a pretty loaded term.

"haha wylan walks in on jesper kissing the wrong guy" yes funny but moving on, have you ever wondered why Wylan was up there in the first place. Because the last he'd seen of Jesper was him being yelled at by Colm to explain what was going on or Colm would "tan your hide so bad you won't be able to sit down for two weeks". Everyone else finds Jesper getting full government-named very funny, but to Wylan this threat would not seem empty - that is just what happens when sons make mistakes. Consider that he wanted to check on Jesper, to see if he was alright, because though it's not really addressed directly, the story gives us several moments of Wylan not trusting Colm and trying to "protect" Jesper from him. Wylan had been isolated to the point where he only knew one father-son relationship, or even one relationship at all, which was between him and Van Eck. Why would he trust Colm? Maybe he just wandered into the room for a silly plot convenience, but I think he was there to assess the damage and be there for Jesper in case the thing that happens between fathers and their sons happened to him.

ghosts - batman: haunted knight
[ID: A multi panel sequence of Bruce Wayne as a child on Halloween. He's dressed up in a Mask of Zorro costume and is excitedly running down the stairs while holding two swords, calling out for his mother happily. He tells her that he's ready to go trick or treating. Martha Wayne has her hand on his shoulder and is smiling as she tells him, “your costume looks great!” Bruce replies, “Thanks, I made it myself. Alfred sorta helped. Is dad home yet?” Martha draws her hand back hesitantly and says his name. Bruce already knows that that means there's bad news. He tells her, “don't tell me,” before she continues and says his father called. Bruce has his head down, angrily finishing her sentence, “he's gotta work late!” He looks out the window as if his father will appear and says, “It's not fair! He promised he would take me trick or treating!” Martha soothes that she knows as Bruce repeats, “he promised,” to himself disappointedly. She tells him, “But there was an emergency,” which makes Bruce snap, “There's always some emergency!”
Bruce continues to stand in front of the window as Martha looks at him. Bruce announces, “I'm gonna wait for him. Even if it takes all night!” as he tensely clenches the handle of his sword. Martha reaches out for him sadly and suggests, “Bruce, I could take you out myself. Or, we can call some of the other children at school and go out with them.” Bruce, as an adult, somberly says off panel that, “she doesn't know...” as his kid self stares out the window still. His hat casting a small shadow on his face as he tells her, “There are no other kids to call. I have no friends at school.” Martha says his name again but doesn't know how to comfort him. Instead, she just silently places a hand on his shoulder. We see a silhouette from far away of her standing next to him as Bruce waits for his father to eventually come home. END ID]

Oof after last night’s episode, I couldn’t help but remember what Lucy said in the Pilot episode:
“Look, this kind of obstacle's new to you, but it's status quo for me. You're a novelty item right now, but in 13 months, you'll be a P2, and the cops will treat you like one of the guys, but I'll- I'll have to prove myself to every cop I work with.”

It's been a while since ive last (and first, ive seen it only once) watched utena, but, when akio first shower up, making it clear that he was the prince, i felt kinda. Disappointed. Like, it was an underwhelming feeling that The Prince that falls from the sky and inspires utena to be the coolest person ever (aside from the cycles of oppression, fighting with swords itself is rad as hell) is just. A guy. And a bad guy at that. And I love to remember how boring was that the prince was Just a man, a playboy that just flirts with girls. I get very happy at this felling of annoyance I've had, that, though kind of intented can kinda get washed over with the absurdism of Utena. And later showing how he is an actual abuser it's truly revolutionary of rgu, really. Sometimes the guy everyone thinks is nice and flirts with everyone (even Teenagers) is an actual abuser and like, it's not just a Being a Man thing. It is a patriarchal thibg. Yeah. Utena just call so many things out it'a incredible. Sorry, this ask was mostly a ramble, but thank you too, because ive had fun. Have you also had these overwhelming underwhelmeness when thinking about akio? bcuz even though all correlation i can find of himself building his image as dios and having ohtori resemble so many things and institutions mostly (like marriage, churches, actual schools ofc and society in general) ive never found anything interesting in his character. he annoys me deeply even though he's a very important character of the show
akio is a fascinating character to me, but mostly in what he represents and in what he means to other characters. as a person he is really quite boring. he tries to present himself as important and wise and interesting to these kids who don't know any better (through his current position and through his past as The Prince), but in reality he is just the most awful and pathetic guy in the world. he is not special, and neither is his abuse. it's all horribly mundane. the disappointment you felt is intentional, i think. that shattering of the fairy tale, the realization that princes aren't real, and that people in power will abuse it, is supposed to hurt. it hurts utena, and it's meant to hurt the audience too. but we're also meant to move on from that pain or disappointment, and to learn something from it. why did we have these expectations? where did they come from? what do we do now that we know they're false? how can we move on? how can we change things for the better?
