I had just finished the first chapter of the Axolotl arc in WAIGLZ and reading the second.

Is he technically being a ghost ever going to come up past this arc to the other chapters in WAIGLZ later on?

Like,

"Wha- Huh??" Mabel said dumbfounded.

It would be crazy coolio to see it mentioned in the main fic.

Until I read your fic I never even thought about Bill being a spirit once, and now I feel rather silly wondering how he lived so long outside of his dimension :,)

I'm sure eventually it'll be mentioned again (I mean, for one thing, eventually we're gonna see the massacre) but probably not like that.

Like, Bill technically-being-a-ghost isn't some big secret or a major plot twist, and it doesn't fundamentally rewrite the rules around him and what he does. It's just what we see him do throughout canon.

He's a non-physical entity ("a being of pure energy!") that's apparently self-sustaining without needing sleep or food and impervious to injury and illness ("with no weakness!")

He's usually invisible to normal (living) people. He can possess people. He can move inanimate objects even though he can't physically interact with them. He can haunt dreams.

When he has the opportunity to make himself a body, he doesn't turn into something physical; his physical form is separate from him, and he can freely separate from it any time he wants.

This is mind-body dualism. Generally, mind-body dualism is a framework people use to express the idea that the spirit/soul is a separate entity from the body. The thing that's killed in Stan's mind is the spirit; the statue left behind is the body.

Meaning, before he had that body, he was spirit.

When he separates Dipper's spirit from his body in the exact same way Bill separates from his own body, he says, "Without a vessel to possess, you're basically a ghost!"

Bill usually doesn't have a vessel to possess.

Ergo: Bill's basically a ghost and he said so himself.

I haven't listed anything we didn't learn from Sock Opera and Weirdmageddon.

The ONLY question is "well BEFORE he was an energy being, did he have a physical body?" Whether he was born an energy being or became one later is in the realm of headcanon; and I suppose it's a matter of opinion if an energy being counts as a ghost if it's 100% identical to ghosts in every way except that it didn't previously have a physical body. You could argue that his eagerness to get a physical body the second he could implies he used to have one or was meant to have one, but that's speculation.

In every other way, he meets the criteria for a ghost the same way that tomatoes meet the criteria for berries. But when someone tells you "tomatoes are berries," it doesn't teach you anything new about tomatoes. You already knew tomatoes have berry-like traits, you just assumed they were disqualified because they're too big or too unsweet or too vegetably, and now you know they aren't disqualified.

So like—putting that word on him doesn't change anything about Bill. You've learned nothing new. The characters around him would learn nothing new. It's not a plot twist or massive character revelation; it's just a background fact that gets mentioned when it's relevant.

When I was a kid, I used to tell my little sister so many versions of Rumpelstiltskin off the top of my head as bedtime stories.I just remembered one version I came up with that certainly wasn't incredible by any standard, but which I really enjoyed telling at the time. I don't remember every single detail, but here's the best I can remember with some cobbling to hold it together:

The king's son, much more kindhearted than his father, has always had a hidden talent for turning things into gold. So when he hears that the king has brought a miller's daughter back to the castle to test her ability to spin straw into gold, threatening death if she fails, he jumps in to help. He disguises himself in strange clothes with a low hood, and hunches over, and offers to help the girl spin straw into gold. Turns out that she's very lovely to talk to - they have a wonderful time getting to know each other through the night as they work. But the prince knows he's in disguise and cannot act on his attraction, so he merely asks for her for something to remember the evening by, and she gives her necklace. He helps her the same way the next night, and she gives him a ring, without his even asking for it, and blushes prettily as she does so.

The third day, the king says that if she can spin the straw into gold a third night, she will marry his son. Though the prince has been falling in love with her, he of course protests that his father cannot force her to marry anyone. But he gets shut down. That night when he comes to help her, he plans to tell her his true identity, but this time guards are in the room, as the king suspects some trick. She weeps, for she has no more jewellery to give him - in fact her only hope at this point would be to barter away her first born child like in a fairy tale. He's aghast, and waves it away, saying he'll certainly help her, but she thinks that he understood it to mean she WAS promising her firstborn. But she's afraid to unsay it, fearing he won't help her. He keeps trying to find a moment to confess the truth, but something always happens to prevent it. They finish spinning the straw into gold with hardly a moment for the prince to slip away and change into his own clothes.

In the morning, the king arrives at the door of the room full of straw, with a priest to marry them on one hand, and an executioner with axe in hand on the other. He is delighted to see there is gold after all, even with the guards watching, and calls for the wedding. The girl is willing enough to wed a prince - I mean, he's a prince but there's also something gentle and kind, and almost as if she *knows* him, though she doesn't see how she could.

The wedding is rushed through, and it's not till the bride and groom are left alone that both of them try to burst out with a terrible confession to make. She manages to gasp hers out - that she's happy to marry the prince, and she'll be as faithful and true as he could wish, but there's something terrible she must tell him. She was helped in spinning the gold, by a strange man with a hooded face, and... she may have accidentally bargained their firstborn child for his help.

The prince pauses, and says something like, "But isn't it true that with these magical sorts, knowing their name frees you from their power? If you could guess his real name, perhaps it would solve everything!"

She despairs - with all the names in the world, how could she possibly guess it?

He smiles and encourages her to try to guess.

"But what's the good of guessing now? How am I to know if I guessed it or not until he comes back for what I owe him? And then it will be too late!"

"Are you sure you can't guess his name, my love?"

And he takes out the necklace and the ring.

And joy, and laughter, and all's well that ends well, and even more rejoicing when she gives him their firstborn a year later.

As a Sofia the first fan for a decade, who’s your favorite princess? Was the show part of your childhood or adulthood like mine?

I know that lots of ppl don’t like her but I love Sofia, I feel like we had similar looks when I was younger so I just liked her

Also Amber, I mean you could really tell when there was like a different writer or director for each episode because her character development will get forgotten for a few episodes lol

Ik those are like ‘the main princesses’ but like they had screen time for a reason

It was definitely a show of my childhood, idk when it came out, it came out 2013, so definitely my childhood, I would have been five 😭😭

I used to spend Friday nights at my Nana’s house up until she moved out of town (I am in fact her favourite, she’s admitted it) and stf was my fav on Disney junior 

And then during Covid I BEGGED my parents to get Disney and I ended up binging stf and I realized the plot was so good, especially in the later seasons?!?!

And that was middle school for me and I had a whole Disney phase of being a Disney theorist (grandmum being sisters with queen Rita and Zandar being the lead ones) and my first time ever reading fanfiction was Sofia the first

Idk I’m a girls girly, so like I’m in it for the princesses (and the other girls) and the female villains, I love the aesthetics of the show, the nostalgia, and the season 3/4 over arching plot

okay so i got hyperfixated on ttyd and that has made me think

like. what if. there's a recurring antagonist who appears to be super intimidating (and is, in their own right) but is also an absolute silly. and they have a really cool boss theme when you initiate battle against them but there's a section that is a little goofy. like that one part of the shadow sirens' theme. the one that people use for beldamposting memes in videos. and the funniest part is that the goofiness somehow doesn't break how cool the rest of the boss theme is. like it fits in perfectly.

man i wish fe had more nuanced villains. it's either "all serious, competent, intimidating, cruel, or edgy as all hell" or "absolute blundering buffoon, complete dipshit idiot" like. i want a guy who makes you laugh but is also a pretty good indicator that shit is hitting the fan. guy who is not a joke but knows how to be silly.

anyway congrats to vivian on her transition! i support her in setting her transphobic sister on fire!
