I think it’s actually kind of hilarious that Drarry, of all things, is what’s been pushing me towards honing my various skills as an artist and writer.

Like, regardless of how you feel about the ship, the HP Fandom is SUCH a talented fandom. The sheer number of fanfics I have read that are far better than the original books… and don’t even get me started on how beautiful the artwork is!

I really need to emphasize, as someone of intermediate skill in these areas, just how DIFFICULT and TIME CONSUMING it is to make something of that quality. I will give all of my love to these creators on their posts and it doesn’t even feel anywhere close to enough.

To my creators reading this: I adore you, I see the work you put in and how hard you must’ve worked for so long to get to this point. You are magical. You deserve like, so many forehead kisses.

Barty is not from Slytherin. It's so stupid that all the bad guys are from Slytherin. It reminds me that Harry Potter is a book for children.

Eh, well, it began as a children's book so in a way being to harsh and critical feels a bit much to me. Yes it encountered a huge success, to its author surprise I think, but that doesn't necessarily compel said author to completely rethink the world they created and their own inner logic.

We have plenty of time on our hands now to study and criticize the material. She was writing it back them. Like, it didn't exist yet. She had to make many choices.

The story was still quite complex. She had a few things she knew for sure and then, like any author, she had to do what she could with the time/energy/inspiration she had.

We are aware of her writing flaws, which are super interesting to analyze since it forces us to understand her mind and prejudices (racism, misogyny, transphobia, queerphobia to name a few) and it makes us question ourselves too and the story we consumed back then. It was a product of its time from one person and it teaches us so much about us and society, patriarchy, family, friendship... isn't it fascinating?

While Harry Potter is not a woke story by any means, it's an incredible world full of fascinating characters that is still making us dream and create and talk about to this day. Aren't we, in the end, reading a story full of fucked up boomers and gen x people that are unable to deal with their emotions and fucking up over and over and isn't it fascinating to read and analyze and empathize with them still? Maybe we'd have less to debate and talk about if it was perfect? Maybe we'd write less fic and meta if all the characters had expressed who they were and how they felt better?

It's like a forever ongoing mystery that is so interesting and inspiring. The holes in jkr story that annoy us are bringing us together and making us grow as people and artists.

...it's weird but after writing this I think I'm glad the story is flawed?

Fellas, I'm going to spoil one of the upcoming offerings, you ready? . • ☆ . ° . I am building a Discord server!

This server will have cool features such as: opt in for pings for new offerings right as they drop, access to a bunch of Johnny emotes, and potential WIPs of things I'm cooking.

While making a hub for my own work is nice, that isn't my main purpose here.

A big reason why I started this shrine was because I had a newfound obsession in JoJo and I needed to express it in some way, or else I would explode. Sharing the art I make has been great! But admittingly, Tumblr is not very intuitive when it comes to holding conversations or making friends with similar interests, which is something I know I'd like more of; maybe others feel the same way?

I'd love to carve out a place where creatives in the JJBA community could come together and just chill, talk about our interests, share their work, gush about ships, and just have fun. There'll probably be an emphasis on Johnny, Gyjo, and Steel Ball Run as topics in the server because of myself and the audience I've attracted, but other JoJo parts and discussions are welcome!

I will be making the server 18+ only. Nothing against minors, but I'm an old man who should be making friends with other adults.

I don't have an exact date for the launch, but the server will be launching sometime before April so that we can all come together and discuss JOJO Day, which is fast approaching!! So keep your eyes peeled, and feel free to let me know your thoughts about the server in the replies! I value any input and suggestions.

I think on this fine Saturday afternoon it's a good opportunity to take a breather and remember that there are really no ethical paparazzi pictures. Every single one is inherently exploitative.

Just because photos were taken on a movie set, when someone is 'working,' does not make the practice any less invasive and creepy. Imagine just going about your day, doing your job and having some weirdo snapping pictures of you to sell without your consent for others to endlessly repost online.

There are thousands of pictures of your favourite actor online already. Plenty taken with his knowledge and consent. I'd really like to see more of them on my dash, rather than the creeper shots.

And don't get me started how disseminating these pictures directly leads to people going to said sets. What starts off as admiring how good someone looks has real world implications.

No, hanging around a movie set and disrupting people doing their jobs is not harmless fun or a way to show your appreciation.

If you hang around a movie set, you are a stalker.

Don't tell me that it's okay to take your online admiration for someone offline. You may admire him but he does not, and will never, personally know you. He will never be your friend/boyfriend/daddy. He is a stranger.

The only way meeting your favourite actor is going to happen is at a convention or maaaaaybe a movie premiere if you're incredibly fortunate. You know, places they appear specifically to meet fans (or not in the case of premieres, where the purpose is to promote a movie. Which is also completely understandable if actors don't stop. You are not owed an interaction).

Of course, you cannot help it if you randomly run into someone you admire in the wild. Even then, consider that they probably won't be all too thrilled to be approached in public by a complete stranger. It's up to you to gauge the situation, but remember there is a person at the heart of all of this.

Boundaries and respect are a kindness which deserves to be extended to each and every human being regardless of their looks/talent/fame/wealth.

Fandoms blur those lines a little too often for my liking and I think just scrutinising what you're interacting with, or what behaviour you could be possibly falling down that slippery slope towards is nice to do every once in a while.

I mean no malice with this post and it is not directed at anyone in particular. It's something I cannot help but feel strongly about because I've seen this destructive cycle time and again in fandoms over the years. It's not healthy and it makes us all a little bit more disconnected from our humanity for it...

Can I just add that Zuko is much much more than his romantic relationships? Like forget Zutara, Maiko, Jinko, or even Zukka. They're all great ships, don't get me wrong, but the way Zuko picks himself up every time he falls and eventually ended up being close to azula's equal in the final Agni Kai, should be talked about more. You have to remember that he was considered a very dull kid compared to azula, his talents paled in comparision to her, he didn't shoot blue lightning like she did, yet he was able to sustain the fight for SO long that even azula began to feel inferior.

He was born as a "dull" kid with "no spark" according to ozai, he was a considerably slow learner compared to Azula, and had to work twice as hard as her to get to azula's "basic" level. He had to watch as his sister was being put in a pedestal and most likely had to listen to people badmouthing him as being "not worthy" enough to be a ruler.

Yet he never gave up?? It's easy to give up in his situation considering that he'd been belittled by his dad and sister his whole life, heck, he'd been PUBLICALLY humiliated by him. Yet he had the resilience to prove his worth.

He has a backbone of fucking steel that really inspires me tbh.

Okay, I just have to say it to anyone feeling isolated or picked on or like the Main Character standing against Amazon's Wot-Show wrongs: nobody is mad that you don't like the show. People have different opinions! Different expectations! In a series this long there's dozens of things people will disagree on in terms of importance and that is normal!

You know what nobody likes?

The condescending, holier-than-thou attitude of some individuals who don't like the show who have decided that It Is Actually Bad And Terrible and anyone who likes it is Wrong.

Who constantly invade show-friendly spaces, who review bomb, who basically act like five year olds having a tantrum in the middle of Target.

People who I'm sorry to say don't seem to understand that there's no one way to adapt a series. Think of it like the works of Shakespeare and move on with your day.

The way I'd do it is going to be different than the way you'd do it, which will be entirely different from the way a third person will do it. That doesn't make any of us wrong - and YET you get mad when reasonable people point out that when you say the show is an Evil Bad Wrong No Good Bad Adaptation Without Question you are discounting those of us who think it's honestly not bad.

And then those same people wrap themselves up in a mantle of hurt and victimhood because everybody is being mean to them! Nobody understands!

Honey, we understand talking to you about the show right now is like talking down some drunk guy in a Denny's parking lot who is screaming at the curb. You aren't making rational points. You are Big Mad and trying to make it the problem of anybody who doesn't think the way you do.

I know I've made an effort to be understanding and empathetic about it, I've tried to explain my reasons for enjoying the show while seeing the point of others who hate it, but I'm tired of only receiving "that's cute you think that but Actually I Am Correct still" in return.

There's no growth, no learning, no further understanding. At this point it's bitching to bitch while pretending to be the only one knowledgeable on the subject. It's screaming about "that's not what I'm asking for!" while, actually, the complaints you're making are very much asking for a perfect 1 to 1 adaptation or some secret third thing that remains a mystery to me.

Either way, I love ya'll, I love WOT, I hope like hell this is a taken as the I Don't Know What Else To Do intervention, come-to-maker post it's meant to be but if it's not and you're angry maybe think about why.
