yknow what. I wanna say: CSA and COCSA survivors are all incredible, but I also wanna give a shout out to ppl who were exposed to sexual stuff or had any kind of sexual experience as a kid that they either aren't comfortable labelling as or don't consider abuse, but they know it still fucking sucked and shouldnt have happened. Even if that changes later in life and you identify as a victim/surivor, it can be messy to have to imagine those labels applying to the ppl in ur life and that can take time.

The most important thing is to prioritize your recovery + health, and to support other victims + survivors.

every time i interact with the silmarillion i get weirdly excited about the fact that the authorial intent is that it's a translation of historical accounts. it's a tertiary source! none of it is first hand. it makes it so much more interesting. was the legendarium a mannish tradition? what parts of these were written by pengolodh? by rumil? what loremaster has recorded this? would there be bias in the accounting? can i trust what i'm reading, from this viewpoint, this many years after it would have been written?

what has been mythologised, what has been sanitised, what is third-hand written on rumour? it's such an interesting thing to consider.

i realized something about mephone based on real iphone 4 lore.

okay, so back in the day, there was a flaw in the iphone 4. basically the antenna had issues. and calls wouldn't go though that reliably. now, this could be fixed with a case that apple sold and eventually issued for free to people who complained. (i’m simplifying but this isn’t an actual tech post. you can look it up though. there was plenty of talk about it at the time)

but mephone never wears a case.

so in season one, when we see him use a separate phone? that's because his antenna doesn't work. but AFTER season one? he has the hardware of an iphone 4s which does not have that issue whatsoever. so that's why in season 2 onwards, in those rare times he does take calls, he actually functions as a phone.

There’s this phenomenon that isn’t quite queerbaiting, and therefore shouldn’t be called that in my opinion, but there isn’t a specific word for it as far as I know. Basically the phenomenon where a couple isn’t explicitly shown to be a couple on screen (usually due to corporate homophobia), but is definitely intended by the creators to be a couple.

Edit: The two phrases that have been brought up in the comments are queer-coding and Herero-baiting. I’m partial to the latter.
