Somebody shared my work on a few manga sites, so now that one person has ruined it for the rest of us. The link for this chapter is no longer activ. recommending hirano to kagiura (the holy grail of slow burns) to other people is hard because how do i say “ok so there’s this really good slice of life roommates to best friends to lovers slow burn. chapter 1 technically starts on volume 2 of this other manga called sasaki to miyano. well, if you count the prequel it actually starts as a spin-off light novel. anyway, the manga yes, it’s called sasaki to miyano go to the extra bonus chapters at the end of the volumes that’s where hirano to kagiura’s story starts. after you’ve read all the bonus chapters you can start the spin-off manga called hirano to kagiura.

it updates every 2-3 months. we’ve already had a confession scene and they’re still not together. one of the leads straight up turned down the other guy but they’re in some schrodinger’s cat kind of relationship. they hold hands and hug and stuff but only for 10 seconds per day. kagiura is a giant basketball guy with big puppy dog “good boy” energy. a bit of a brat. teensy bit stubborn and possessive. he can ask for whatever he wants because he’s special and he knows it. and then there’s hirano. don’t even get me started on that pretty boy. kagiura was doomed to fall in love with hirano the day they met and this scary blond boy started calling him “kagi-kun”.

look at this aro/ace king. he’s never had a crush in his life. hirano is a walking contradiction. he’s a “former bad boy” who’s now a member of the disciplinary committee club. a grumpy boy with straight A’s, earrings, bleached hair and a soft spot for his roommate. calls him cute nicknames and dotes on him (ie: wakes him up every day, eats the food he doesn’t want, goes to his basketball games, tutors him, compliments him all the time, gets mad at him when he tries to create distance, has the biggest smile around only him, can never say no to him). except he can say no to him because of course he turned the guy down and yet. he is still willing to… try. a little trial relationship of sorts. because it’s kagiura. his roomie and his bestie. and i just

what the hell is this indeed.

watching them discover love in the slowest of slow burns is not only agonizing but also amazing and sweet and the best thing ever and i need more people to know about them. they’re also hilarious and have a huge height difference. hirano’s not even short kagiura’s just a titan (6'3"/190cm)”

I'm really excited to see the context of this glorious picture of heavily blushing Hirano. It's so thrilling because the video hinted he and Kagiura will have a moment of them looking at each other while blushing and this is huge. After all, the only time Hirano blushed like this was back in chapter 9 when Kagiura confessed his feelings directly to Hirano. Every other time after, he either has a small blush while Kagiura is around, or a heavy blush after Kagiura is gone and can't see it. So, you have to wonder what happened to cause him to look so vulnerable. Our blonde sweetie has realized something big, mark my words.

I'm really hoping this is a clue that chapter 24 will be a big step in their relationship because we see the ball game here, as well as a clear impact that the game and all the time they spent practicing will have on them and we see that Kagiura will have some thoughts during and after the game, so I'm hoping this will help them progress.

Chapter 24 is shaping up to be a wonderful addition and I really hope the English translation comes out this week. I had previously predicted that they would get together before chapter 30, and I am standing by that for now. The ball game is over, so next will be the White Day hopefully, and I'm hoping those little hints of moments we see of the Kagihira-looking characters that were in Miyano's BL manga were foreshadows of things that will happen in the official Hirano and Kagiura manga.

Random headcanon of the day:

Hirano has a tiktok account just for the sole purpose of watching whatever videos Kagi sends him. Beyond that it's rare to see him scrolling thru his fyp. He's never posted anything

Kagi posts occasionally with his account mostly being videos of him playing basketball/doing trick shots or random videos he filmed for fun while hanging out with friends (obvs Hirano watches all these too he has notifs on)

Niibashi is tiktok famous for his grwm's, speed paintings, and makeup tutorials. He often uses Kagi as his model

Do you ever think about the fact that the angriest Hirano has ever gotten was after Kagi kept flinching at his touch and refusing to even brush hands?

With Hirano recently worrying that he's stopping Kagiura from moving on, I like to remember that if Kagiura did move/show signs of moving on, Hirano wouldn't like it. I know people have reiterated this point before, but the Kagi-kun he's fond of is the one who's in love with him etc etc. So what happens when that version of Kagiura is fading? I imagine he has to ask himself what the alternative is. He doesn't want Kagiura stuck on someone who doesn't love him back. But he inevitably doesn't want to lose the Kagiura who is in love with him. I don't think he would ever ask Kagiura to keep loving him without any return because he cares too much about him, I think.

Like, "The you I love most is the one who loves me" is a crazier statement the more I stare at it. Forget NEEDY. At face value, this is GREEDY. The only way Hirano can get over this hurdle is by letting go of the Kagi-kun he's fond of. Things have to change more, except, unlike the recent changes that have him thinking "This isn't so bad," it would mean Kagiura is slipping away from him and toward his "next", which he's been keeping him from all this time. Is he willing to do that? Is he willing to let go of Kagiura for this to happen? No, he isn't. We know he isn't.

Hirano probably wouldn't stop it from happening if it did, but i think he'd be devastated. Because no matter what, he DOES love Kagiura (no one is shocked). That love runs deep. That love wants Kagiura close, and that love wants Kagiura to love him too.
