You see, i keep thinking about fics sending characters back in time and how they just fix everything and they're sweet and i love them but also
There's things you just can't change, you know?
How would a 8 year old fucking stop a traffic accident on the other side of his city, not even the country they're in
How does a child prevent someone somehow from getting an illness that will kill them, both psycological and not
I'd love a story where yeah, they fix what could be fixed but stomp into walls that just couldn't be prevented, not having money for the doctor, personalities that just won't do as they wish, people forgetting or ignoring a kid's advice, someone that needed more than a few words to turn away from certain paths
And i don't mean it in a "Destiny finds a way" type of thing, they can do stuff, they really can, but somethings go far, far away from their capabilities

Imagine Jaune boosting Weiss allowing to summon her gigas with speed glyphs and just Jojoing someone.
"So what will you do, Ice Queen?" Mocked Traitor's Preach from the other side of the battlefield. "My Unbreakable Armor has managed to not only best your glyphs but also rendered your ally unconscious!"
"Rgh!" Weiss grunted, her aura feeling dangerously low. Normally, she would retreat to a safer position, but the idea of leaving Jaune behind was too abhorrent an idea to condone. No, she'd have to hold out for Ruby and the others to arrive, if only by some miracle they knew she was in trouble.
Without any further sounds, she summoned a Beowolf to charge ahead, but as it made to swipe at Traitor's Preach, the huntress clashed her two cymbals together to create a sound barrier. With her Beowolf unable to break through, it was instead broken all too easily by the slicing cymbals that pierced through it's body.
"..." Weiss spoke, but the words didn't reach her opponent's ears.
"Huh?" She mockingly leaned with her ear cupped. "What was that? I couldn't hear you over the sound of you losing."
"I said..." she grinned, spinning around before driving her sword into the glyph below her, "You lose!"
Suddenly, a chilling air blew across the battlefield as a massive titan of armored ice rose from nothing. Traitor's Preach stood in abject horror at the towering knight looming over her. She was about to ask how when she saw Weiss walking towards her... and someone else picking themselves off the ground.
"You?!" She roared. "You're supposed to be knocked out!"
"I was... taking a nap." Jaune grinned.
"Don't try to act tough, Arc." Weiss chided. "You're hardly Xiao Long, but your semblance does make you an effective ally."
He stood up, walking up behind her. "Yeah, well..." The next words out of his mouth went unheard as the giant began attacking with its sword. Whatever he said made her red in the face and distracted. This would be good if not for the looming threat.
A clash of cymbals deafened the words and provided protection for Traitor's Preach. It may have been made of ice, but even ice can break. She swung her cymbals outwards, aiming right for the titan's heart and center-mass. However, a familiar white threat zoomed through the air and sliced the cymbals free from their mistress.
"You've forgotten yourself, Traitor's Preach," Weiss announced from the air, "you face against a Schnee. But garbage like you aren't worth our swords."
With those words, the massive knight raised his boot of ice. It came crashing down with the might of a meteor, but it was stopped shortly by a clap of her hands. The cold shadow cast over Traitor's Preach like an eclipse.
"I still have my hands, Schnee!"
"And I still have my boot." The mass receded, only to come crashing down again. It was stopped once more, though it continued to get closer with every clap. "What's faster? Your hands or my foot?"
Another stomp, another clap. Traitor's Preach backed up, only to trip over her own feet. The massive boot was inches from her face. As it rose skyward, she swung her arms together only to be struck in the head by something. Dazed, she caught a glimpse of what struck her. It was a metal cannister, no bigger than a soda can. But that matter became less important than the large mass of ice smashing into her.
Traitor's Preach roared in agony as the heavy, cold boot of Weiss Schnee came crashing repeatedly down on her foe. No, a foe would have been someone equal to her. This was trash, and it was stomped out just as easily.
Or it seemed easy, until Weiss suddenly felt dizzy and began to teeter from her glyph. Her Arma Gigas then dissipated into drifting snow and Weiss began to fall from its height. It reached to catch her, but she fell through the weightless snow it had become. It was until a firm jolt let her know she'd stop falling.
"I didn't need your help." Weiss panted.
"I'm sure you don't." Jaune smiled. "You're welcome for the help anyways."
Weiss pouted, but she was grateful for his help. She would thank him later, when she had the strength to speak. For now, she relaxed in his arms, comfortable and safe and-
"Hey~!" A familiar voice crooned from the distance. "Need any help?"
Damn! Xiao Long! Weiss struggled to get out of Jaune's arms before she was teased incessantly by her. She grunted and fidgeted and squirmed until she fell flat on her face on the hard ground.
"Uh, you okay, Ice Queen?" Yang asked.
"I'm fine, Xiao Long," a bruise swelling on her chin and forehead, "thank you for asking."

Something I remember from reading the Fantastic Four (that I also see in the avengers and and the original X-Men and in honestly most marvel stories) is a nice, almost slice of life style view at the main characters lives. Sometimes the villian won't show up until page 7, and the first 6 pages are just sweet shots of the team bonding or doing things. And I love that. Honestly, I'd read a whole book of that. Someone needs to make a whole book of the sweet, mundane moments in a superhero's life. Whether it be Hank and Janet going on a date, Pietro going to the circus like he did that one time, etc. It builds character, and it's just altogether sweet to watch. We need more of that.

OH YN GOD OLAY SO I NEED TO RANT FOR A MINUTE ABOUT THE HORRIBLE WRITING IN CANDACE OWENS "BLACKOUT" BOOK
So, for starters, I got this book from a little free library, so I didn't pay for it. I would never pay for it, and honestly NO ONE SHOULD not because blah blah blah opposing viewpoint blah blah blah bad author blah blah blah harmful stereotypes blah blah blah doesn't know what she's talking about (even if those are all true) BUT BECAUSE SHE'S JUST SUCH A BAD AUTHOR.
She'll start off a chapter talking about one thing, like saying that cats don't like water, and then goes on to SAY SOMETHING COMPLETELY UNRELATED WITHOUT SAYING HOW THEY RELATE, AND THEN JUST EXPECTS THE READER TO KNOW WHAT SHE MEANS. She'll go and say, "Oh, cats don't like water, so the sky is green." AND THEN EXPECTS US TO JUST KNOW HOW SHE CAME TO THAT CONCLUSION???? Like, one chapter she talks about how she used to have an eating disorder and would go partying every night, how she had no rules and would get into fights, right? AND THEN SHE SAYS THAT THATS LEFTISM UNLEASHED. Doesn't say HOW that's leftism, just says it, and then the chapter ends.
Second point, SHE DOESN'T USE ANY ACTUAL EVIDENCE/STATISTICS TO SUPPORT HER CLAIMS. In one of her chapters, she was talking about how women will falsely accuse men of rape, which IS real and something that needs to be addressed, but then instead of sharing a few stories of how that can hurt people and show some statistics that show how often rape claims are proven false, SHE LISTS THREE STORIES. THREE. ONE OF WHICH WAS A LADY MISTAKING A LITTLE BOYS BACKPACK HITTING HER BUTT FOR HIM SLAPPING HER ASS (Which still isn't cool, considering the boy was very young AND ALSO OF COLOR, SO THE LADY PROBABLY CAME TO THAT CONCLUSION BASED ON HIS RACE) AND THEN GOES ON TO SAY THAT MOST RAPE CLAIMS ARE FALSE AND JUST MADE UP BECAUSE THE WOMEN REGRET IT THE NEXT DAY. Doesn't show any ACTUAL statistics. Doesn't go on to mention the amount that ARE REAL.
Third, when SHE DOES bring up statistics, SHE'LL USE TWO DIFFERENT STATISTICS TO HELP HER ARGUMENT. In one chapter she was brought up some statistics on PREVENTABLE deaths in white people, and then lists BOTH PREVENTABLE AND UNPREVENTABLE DEATHS IN BLACK PEOPLE and then draws conclusions! YOU CAN'T DO THAT. THOSE ARE TWO DIFFERENT STATISTICS, THOSE DO NOT MEAN THE SAME THING.
Fourth, she'll mention articles that she's read, and EVEN QOUTE THEM! But she won't cite them! She won't give us a name! She just drops then there, interprets them, and then doesn't say where they came from. Like, once she was talking how FDR supposedly prolonged the great depression, she says that there was an article PROVING that, and then QOUTES THAT ARTICLE, but doesn't say the name of it! ON TOP OF THAT, THE QOUTE SHE USED DIDN'T EVEN MENTION HOW FDR PROLONGED THE DEPRESSION!!
Fifth, SHE DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO INTERPRET EVIDENCE. Like, in the example above, she quoted an article that supposedly talks about how FDR prolonged the great depression, right? Well, the qoute ACTUALLY just talks about how many policies that FDR promised would help many black people in America really DIDN'T help. Like at all. And then she goes on to say, "SEE! SO THAT MEANS THAT SOCIALISM IS BAD!"
AND THIS ISN'T EVEN GETTING INTO ALL THE THINGS SHE JUST GETS FLAT-OUT WRONG!! THIS ISN'T EVEN GETTING INTO ALL THE HORRIBLE THINGS SHE SAYS, OR THE REALLY WIERD, RANDOM THINGS SHE SAYS OUT OF LEFT FIELD!!! THIS IS JUST ABOUT HER HORRRIBEL WRITING!!! SHE SHOULD KNOW THIS STUFF!! THIS IS, LIKE, HIGHSCHOOL LEVEL THINGS THAT SHE SHOULD KNOW!!!! AND SHE DOESN'T!!!!!

Learning that fans hated Applejack and called her "boring" is crazyyy to me because I genuinely, unironically believe AJ's the most complex character in the main six.
Backstory-wise, she was born into a family of famers/blue collar workers who helped found the town she lives in. She grew up a habitual liar until she had the bad habit traumatized outta her. She lost both her parents and was orphaned at a young age, having to step up as her baby sister's mother figure. She's the only person in the main gang who's experienced this level of loss and grief (A Royal Problem reveals that AJ dreams about memories of being held by her parents as a baby). She moved to Manhattan to live with her wealthy family members, only to realize she'll never fit in or be accepted, even amongst her own family. The earlier seasons imply she and her family had money problems too (In The Ticket Master, AJ wants to go to the gala to earn money to buy new farm equipment and afford hip surgery for her grandma).
Personality-wise, she's a total people-pleaser/steamroller (with an occasional savior complex) who places her self worth on her independence and usefulness for other people, causing her to become a complete workaholic. In Applebuck Season, AJ stops taking care of herself because of her obsessive responsibilities for others and becomes completely dysfunctional. In Apple Family Reunion, AJ has a tearful breakdown because in she thinks she dishonored her family and tarnished her reputation as a potential leader –– an expectation and anxiety that's directly tied to her deceased parents, as shown in the episode's ending scene. In The Last Roundup, AJ abandons her family and friends out of shame because believes she failed them by not earning 1st place in a rodeo competition. She completely spirals emotionally when she isn't able to fulfill her duties toward others. Her need to be the best manifests in intense pride and competitiveness when others challenge her. And when her pride's broken, she cowers and physically hides herself.
Moreover, it's strongly implied that AJ has a deep-seated anger. The comics explore her ranting outbursts more. EQG also obviously has AJ yelling at and insulting Rarity in a jealous fit just to hurt her feelings (with a line that I could write a whole dissection on). And I'm certain I read in a post somewhere that in a Gameloft event, AJ's negative traits are listed as anger.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Subtextually, a lot of these flaws and anxieties can be (retroactively) linked to her parents' death, forcing her to grow up too quickly to become the adult/caregiver of the family (especially after her big brother becomes semiverbal). Notice how throughout the series, she's constantly acting as the "mom friend" of the group (despite everything, she manages to be the most emotionally mature of the bunch). Notice how AJ'll switch to a quieter, calmer tone when her friends are panicking and use soothing prompts and questions to talk them through their emotions/problems; something she'd definitely pick up while raising a child. Same with her stoicism and reluctance at crying or releasing emotions (something Pinkie explicitly points out). She also had a childhood relationship with Rara (which, if you were to give a queer reading, could easy be interpreted as her first 'aha' crush), who eventually left her life. (Interestingly enough, AJ also has an angry outburst with Rara for the same exact reasons as with EQG Rarity; jealous, upset that someone else is using and changing her). It's not hard to imagine an AJ with separation anxiety stemming from her mother and childhood friend/crush leaving. I'm also not above reading into AJ's relationship with her little sister (Y'all ever think about how AB never got to know her parents, even though she shares her father's colors and her mother's curly hair?).
AJ's stubbornness is a symptom of growing up too quickly as well. Who else to play with your baby sister when your brother goes nonverbal (not to discount Big Mac's role in raising AB)? Who else to wake up in the middle of the night to care for your crying baby sister when your grandma needs her rest? When you need to be 100% all the time for your family, you tend to become hard-stuck with a sense of moral superiority. You know what's best because you have to be your best because if you're aren't your best, then everything'll inevitably fall apart and it'll be your fault. And if you don't know what's best –– if you've been wrong the whole time –– that means you haven't been your best, which means you've failed the people who rely on you, which means you can't fulfill your role in the family/society, which makes you worthless . We've seen time and time again how this compulsive need to be right for the sake of others becomes self-destructive (Apple Family Reunion, Sound of Silence, all competitions against RD). We've seen in The Last Roundup how, when no longer at her best, AJ would rather remove herself from her community than confront them because she no longer feels of use to them.
But I guess it is kinda weird that AJ has "masculine" traits and isn't interested in men at all. It's totally justified that an aggressively straight, misogynistic male fandom would characterize her as a "boring background character." /s
At the time of writing this, it's 4:46AM.

in internet posts it is easy to cut them out of your life. they are hurting you! they aren't listening to you!
they held your hair back. they lent you lipstick. they held your hand at the train station and got you home safe. they rounded on your bully, got loud, said get fucked, spitting-mad in your defense.
they also cut the hair off again. told you that you should really think twice before wearing something like that. took you for granted. took your insecurities and threw them in your face again.
you know logically it should be easy. all the internet advice comments always read it will feel better. like an equation - if a person is rotten, you just remove them. you pull the tooth that's hurting.
but it was never a big flare-up moment. you don't live in a sitcom. they never tried to take your boyfriend or steal from your apartment. they showed up to birthdays and they wrote songs about you and bring you water without you asking. once you found out they carry an emergency inhaler for you, even though you haven't had an asthma attack in years - just in case.
where is the line? people fuck up. sometimes they fuck up badly. sometimes people have raw personalities, like a powerline, and being around them is dangerous. addicting. sometimes they can't help themselves, but you know they're trying. sometimes they are just rough-around-the-edges. sometimes they don't even realize how they sounded when they said that. sometimes it's just - you've both loved each other for so long now, the way this thing hurts goes back to the root.
and that's the fucked up part. you have pushed your fingers against the sweetheart of memory. things these days are electric, tense, harrowing. they didn't used to be. there were a lot of good days in there. sometimes you want to just close your eyes and say can this be over yet? do we still need to be fighting?
doing that would give up any chance you get of getting an apology, but you don't always know that you need an apology, you love them. once they flaked on your birthday party. once they told you to get over it, people are always dying. they also let you crash on their couch for a week after the breakup, handfeeding you when you were so sad you couldn't eat. they are also judgmental about everything, occasionally react to banal statements with an attitude that is weird and fiery. they also love you like a lighthouse sometimes, so strong they cut the storm like lightning.
but the problem is that you might be storm. you might be the thing that needs breaking. what if you are two forces who are desperately, horribly drawn to each other, shaped by the other person's passions, and both good for each other and bad in equal measure.
what if you're both just people, and you're no saint neither.
just cut them off! swallowing the saltwater, you catch yourself in the mirror. you've been shaking more than usual. there's an ache in you that is oblique, loud, impossible to soothe. is this what it looks like? when life is "easier"?
your mouth will always have a hole, is the thing, if you remove the tooth.
