hair headcanons (because i have 0 self control and couldn't resist making this post)

welcome to my yap session about Aphmau's characters (specifically MCD) and how I imagine their hair to be throughout her canon series and my rewrite. this doesn't include everyone just Aphmau, Laurance, and Katelyn because that’s all I’ve figured out so far lmao sorry

also this post is completely out of pocket like i didn’t even do my normal formatting for it that’s how spur of the moment i need to do this right now this post is

anyway this is completely self serving. this post is completely random and something i need to talk about because i love the symbolism of hair even if i'm making most of it up it's just so vbfgvfavnciuvnuiw it makes me consider so much anyways

there's a lot. so.

Aphmau

when the series starts she has very long, flowy hair

it's curly and kind of untamed to sort of show that she's a free spirit and is open to trusting anyone, especially since her long hair tends to get in her face with the wind and just doing other stuff

it even goes to show that she trusts easily as her hair is unrestricted and moves freely, signifying that her heart is open

she rarely puts it up towards the beginning and when she does it's always in a loose style and ends up falling out fairly easily

as she gets more into her lord position, her hair stays long and flowy, but the curls in her hair get tighter. this shows that not only has she implemented some sort of curl routine (that she didn't have before) to seem more presentable, but also that she is becoming just a tad more closed off as she learns more about the world and intentions of others

it's at that point that she isn't so quick to trust everyone around her

by the end of season one her hair is in a ponytail often. not super tight but not loose either

it's held out of her face but still still semi loose to show she's still willing to trust people

she only ever lets it completely loose around Garroth, Laurance, Dante, Zoey, and her children when she starts putting it in a ponytail (showing she allows herself to be completely vulnerable around them, as her hair is long and can restrict her vision)

at the beginning of season two, she starts using more "working" hairstyles

she starts putting her hair in updos and loose french braids to keep it completely out of her face so she can see around herself at all times

it's still long and flowy but she doesn't let the ends loose anymore (not even for formal events)

she only lets those that went with her to the Irene dimension (with the exception of Dante and her children—not Zoey because I’m planning for this whole like complex almost falling out for them but that’s for another time) see it in looser ponytails/styles like she wore at the end of season one

she only lets it completely loose now in front of Laurance, Katelyn, Aaron, and maybe Emmalyn (they're not only her closest friends at this point, but they also know what it's like to skip in time and lose everything like she did)

her hair is also completely loose in the dream dimension where she visits Garroth. it also returns to its unruliness that was evident at the very beginning, showing that the dimension is a completely safe space

as season two continues Aphmau begins putting her hair into two very tight dutch braids. it's a more combative style and more practical, it also shows that she's begun closing off her heart to other people

she still lets her hair into looser styles around her close friends (Travis, Lucinda and Zoey now included), but keeps it in it's tight braids around everyone else

also in Jessica's canon MCD I imagine she stops wearing it completely down in front of everyone but Aaron and I imagine she only lets it completely loose around him (although it's still tightly curled)

in my rewrite she will only let it down in front of Katelyn, Aaron, and Laurance (I haven’t decided about Travis yet…)

now, until the end of season two she has kept it long. this goes in with my hair holds memories post i made a while back. basically, her keeping her hair long is Irene's way of making sure Aphmau keeps the memories she makes

however when Aphmau learns that she is Irene, she cuts it short

this is a very big thing in my rewrite specifically because Aphmau wants to be her own person. she doesn't want to be associated with the goddess and in making sure she isn't, she meets her end (minor lore drop there oops)

but she doesn't want to resemble Irene more than she already does, so she chops her hair as her way of erasing the previous memories Irene had created, and even the ones Aphmau created for herself

she wants a completely fresh start with a new slate

Laurance

i love Laurance’s hair arc so much it means everything to me

anyways

i wanna start by saying Laurance is very prideful in his hair. not only is it long at the start but it looks nice

Cadenza obviously dyed it orange. he wasn’t thrilled about that but alas, he let it happen

and that’s a symbolism of trust for him because he doesn’t let ANYONE touch his hair

and ykw he might not know how to keep his hair completely healthy when it’s dyed but goddammit he keeps it long

i believe he keeps it long because it’s showing that he’s happy. the Laurance i’ve created was not a very happy child. he jumped from orphanage to orphanage because he kept running from his previous ones, and i imagine they made boys buzz their hair

he only starts growing his hair out after he reached Meteli and gets adopted by Hayden and Joh (in my rewrite they’re a gay couple it’s lovely but that’s besides the point)

the growth of his hair shows that Laurance is happy where he is in Meteli. he’s content with his life now and isn’t on the run anymore

and then he gets turned into a Shadow Knight

when he gets turned into a Shadow Knight his hair gets chopped. this is meant to show the attempt of making him a new person by erasing his previous life and memories (again with the hair holds memories things)

it’s also seen as impractical to have long hair as a Shadow Knight so that’s also why they cut it. this is a thing that happens for all Shadow Knights btw, so like Sasha has very short hair and that’s part of the initial reason Laurance doesn’t immediately clock her

but anyways his hair being cut there is also to symbolize his loss of control over his own life. at that point while he’s in the Nether, he’s completely under rule of Gene and whoever else. they’re trying to make him forget his life so his hair loss is his own loss on the reigns

and then he comes back, and he lets Cadenza mess with his hair because she’s a familiarity to him. he’s felt her hands in his hair before and it grounds him and reminds him that he’s not in the nether anymore, that he’s back with the people he loves

Cadenza cuts his hair just a bit shorter to style it better, and this is another minor hair holds memories thing, the memories being the Nether

and then, as Laurance gets close with Aphmau and Garroth and Dante and everyone else in Phoenix Drop, he grows his hair out again. yes it does reach that awkward stage here it’s just in his face but he’s a well trained guard. he doesn’t mind

he’s still prideful in his hair so he takes great care of it and we see it absolutely flourish. and he keeps it long to keep the memories he’s made with his new family

as with Aphmau, during season two he starts putting it in tighter, more protective hairstyles

using what he can, at least. like it probably isn’t super long (especially since he’s yk. undead. i have a whole other thing about that) so i imagine he just pulls it into a tight ponytail at the nape of his neck

or a man bun if that strikes your fancy idk

Aphmau’s the only one he lets it loose in front of willingly btw. her and Dante and Cadenza but he doesn’t really see Dante or Cadenza so…

but also! yes he pulls his hair back but as the story progresses even more his hair gets messier!!

think sort of what i was explaining with Aphmau just barely pulling her hair back. that’s what it dwindles down to

because!! the longer he stays out of the nether the more he gets disconnected from himself because he’s suddenly being taken over by this carnal desire to kill people or just go back to the nether and he’s trying to fight it but it’s ultimately a battle he looses

and so to show that physically wirh his hair, it gets messier. we see that he isn’t taking as good care of it anymore

in the source material he goes ba k to the nether. I imagine he cuts his hair once more and keeps it short there. but is also like to think maybe he keeps it growing super long to hold on to aphmau and his family but based on what ive rewatched i don’t think he’d do that

in my rewrite!! Aphmau is slowly going crazy being consumed by the image of Irene, stuff happens, she does in fact die, yeah

but in my rewrite while Aphmau is going crazy Laurance keeps his hair long!! he like braids kt too but it’s kind of a ratty/messy braid to again reflect his mental state anyways

he keeps it long to remember the Aphmau he knew back then instead of what this new Aphmau is which is basically a shell of her old self because she’s been so consumed by the expectations of Irene

and even after she dies, Laurance still doesn’t cut his hair. ever.

Katelyn

i’m still kind of planning hers out so it’s not quite as refined as Aphmau’s and Laurance’s but this is what i got

when we meet Katelyn her hair is very tightly wound. it reaches just below her shoulders and it is always in a very tight dutch braid

this is to kind of show her position as a Jury member. she’s been trained to not trust anyone and highly trained in combat. so she not only keeps her hair short to make it easier to manage and keep it out of the way, but she winds it so tightly (i mean like it’s a wonder girl is not always suffering from headaches) to show she does not trust anyone

it’s not until they all get kidnapped and Aphmau almost gets married off that she starts to loosen it

one because it was sort of forced into being completely loose and messy when she was in the prison cell, but also because Aphmau and Laurance have both seen her at her absolute lowest and they didn’t ridicule her, so she gives them the trust of opening up to her

even though she does let them see that it’s very rare

after that incident she lets her hair grow a tad, enough to always have it in a ponytail around everyone

it’s a tight ponytail, and she uses it as a way to say that she is reserved but she trusts the decisions of people around her

like if they trust someone then she is less careful

i also imagine any time she’s talking about Jeffory her hair is loose. like loose and kind of messy. think like frolicking through the fields on a breezy sunny day

that’s kind of a dramatic comparison but. Jeffory did make her feel like frolicking so… it makes sense that when she’s talking about him her hair is the most free

you laugh, a bit nervous at the thought.

Gabriela Francesca Carrillo's Changing Parr Wigs

Alright. I have been meaning to make a post about this for a year now and have probably 20 asks about it, but I swear every time I sat down to work on it she got some major restyling. So...now that Aragon Tour has closed, it's finally time to make it.

The earliest photos of Gabriela's wig are from the tech week in New Haven (top left), the promo photoshoot that took place at the end of New Haven tech (top right and bottom left), and Chicago opening (bottom right). All of those show the same basic shape: her hair being pulled over to the left side of her head and left loose. However, there are a number of differences in the specific styles: - During the top left tech photo, she had the top section on the left pulled into a loose waterfall braid, French braids on the right that got pulled over into the left waterfall near the back of her head, and the rest left loose (although it does seem like there’s another braid hanging down on the left as well). The curls were styled with smaller strands and more volume/texture to them. - By the photoshoot, she had a similar style but with larger curl clumps. We can also see that she has 3-4 French braids on her right. - By opening, the biggest change is the curl texture. The wig was straightened out and then curled into larger looser curl sections that were kept more intact, going for more of a side-swept blowout than naturally wavy look. It still kept the French braids on the right and the waterfall braid on left.

The day after opening it had already changed to a faux side ponytail style. That base style then went through numerous iterations in the first week or so; it feels like there were changes just about every day that week. I've added the best photos I have from that period above. The hair starts out in more of a faux ponytail, basically just loose but pulled pretty tightly so it looks closer to a ponytail than anything. Eventually they pulled it into two proper ponytails. The number and placement of braids changed quite a bit as well.

For the next few months, she continued to have a variety of style changes:

Placement, ponytail vs loose, number of ponytails, number/placement/stile of braids….all changed maaany times. I’m not going to do a full write-up of all that just because there were simply too many! But this gives a selection of most of the major changes. (Note: these were all still restyling of her initial wig)

With the start of the San Francisco run in Feb 2023, Gabriela got a new wig:

This wig is styled as a right side part with Dutch braids on each side going back into a low ponytail. Initially the ponytail was more on the left side but by the end it was more in the center. Simpler than most of her prior styles, but very flattering. She wore this wig through the end of her run.

Alright, that’s everything I have on Gabi’s wigs for the moment! As I said above there were simply far too many changes for me to make a comprehensive post with every single change, but I tried to pick some good photos encompassing the majority of them. If anyone has further questions on any specific styles, feel free to send me an ask and I’ll see what I can write up! But this is the most comprehensive I’m going to do for her hairstyles more broadly, and I hope it answers any unanswered questions from the last year and a half.

Random cute Luke x Reader headcanons that live in my head rent-free pt 6 (curly haired reader edition, cuz honestly people can be so rude sometimes and I just need a little validation rn)

- I know I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again (cuz Padme had some glorious curls), Luke has a thing for natural curls like his father before him.

- The first time you wear your natural curls down, he’s all 😍

- Like legit he cannot stop admiring them and after he learns that you’ve dealt with so much stupid shit from people about them, he will remind you how much he loves them all the time.

- Has done his RESEARCH. When he overheard you telling someone you can’t treat curly hair like straight hair, he went out of his way to learn everything he could about the curly routine. Or he’ll watch your routine and is just so fascinated by it and learns every step to the point that he becomes a pro as well.

- Knows better than to just start touching or run his fingers through you hair. But if you do let him touch, he’s so gentle and careful with your curls and only plays with them in a way that won’t create a giant frizzy mess (he’s also done his research on how best to do this).

- He loves your curls in all their forms: big, bouncy, fresh day 1 curls and even day 5 looser waves that are falling out.

- Gets excited when he sees someone else wearing their natural curls and will be like “oh my partner has curly hair too! :)”

- He’s very protective of your hair because he knows how irritating and rude people can be. When he first learned about some of the comments people made, he was so offended and frustrated on your behalf, and won’t stand for anyone making “bird’s nest/electrical socket” comments, and is especially annoyed when some stranger tries to just turn you into a petting zoo (if this happens, he’ll usually intercept them before they can touch).

- He’s your ultimate hype man, especially when it comes to trying new products or hairstyles. He especially loves messy curly buns that have a few curls escaping (especially when one of them sort of cascades down your neck, he thinks that’s so pretty) and if you want, he’ll even help you research the best products.

- If you two have kids and they have curly hair, he’s so excited that they got your texture and curl pattern and it makes him all 😭 he’s so good at helping them care for it and let them know their hair is beautiful exactly the way it is.

- If you wear it in a pineapple at night or use a bonnet, you were a little self conscious about it the first time you spent the night together. But he assured you he thought you looked adorable. The next morning, he loved watching you take it all out and watching your curls just rain down and now insists on being present every time you do that.

- Loooooves a good high curly haired ponytail.

- If you brush it out before you shower, he’ll offer to help and is so gentle.

- Sometimes when you get out of the shower, you’ll let him help you scrunch it before you dry cuz he thinks it’s fun.

- Learned how to finger roll even better than you and has been known to mumble “weeee” as he lets the curl go and it falls into place.

- If you go a fancy party or have a wedding, he’ll support you if you’d rather straighten your hair or put it up (he thinks you’re beautiful either way), but is genuinely so excited if you leave it curly and will tell you over and over how beautiful you look.

- If you’re sick, injured, or even just tired, he’ll offer to do the whole routine for you and seems to genuinely enjoy it. He’s so sweet and gentle too and will leave little kisses on your forehead or temple as he goes along.

- Is known to come up behind you, hug you, and mutter “Maker, I love your hair” in your ear at random.

Has anybody else noticed how Crowley's hair evolution in season 1 also reflects how he was changed by the world over time?

Like we all know he's plenty into modern fashion. With his signature sleek, minimalist style, and of course fashion is changing all the time and therefore so does he BUT it's the little details from scene to scene that really showcase the passage of time and character development.

In specifically his choice of hairstyle.

I only noticed this because I'm doing a portrait project of Crowley(/crawly at the time) and I wanted to find a reference for him with long hair and while rifling through a plethora of screen captures on Google, I realized why I liked the way his hair looked better in the Noah's arc scene, rather than when he first had long hair in the Eden scene, the style people usually reference.

The curls are looser.

Closer to waves, even.

At least closer to waves than the cork screw curls he previously sported.

I liked them cause they looked more natural, less ridged.

I believe from some angles you can even see a braid.

And so I started looking in other pictures and if you put it all together and look at it from far away, the pattern in his hair style progression is that his hair gets progressively straighter over time.

The tight styled curls visibly relax over time as he discovers his own free will over his appearance and settles into a human lifestyle.

He becomes more relaxed. Less tight, perfectly styled curls, more loose waves. More himself.

More and more a part of the world he's in, distancing himself from that time.

"going native" as hastur and ligur put it ever so eloquently.

And it's little things like this that make me so happy.

I don't know if this was on purpose or supposed to represent that or not but etheir way I find it infinitely fascinating all the little design choices that went into the show and how they affect the final product.

Little things you'd only notice if you were mentally ill about it, like me.

Kinktober Day 11: Leather/Latex

I intended to make this longer, but the day got away from me, so there will be another extension on Patreon eventually. More modern AU fun for Tav, Halsin, and Astarion.

When Addy learned she’d been nominated for WANKer of the Year, by the sex education charity she supported, she knew she had to wear something special. She worked with her personal stylist to get something perfect commissioned. She kept it secret from Astarion and Halsin, who would both be accompanying her and they would make their first official appearance as a triad. It would be a fitting event to do so, as WANK worked to spread awareness of healthy, non-traditional relationships as well as sexual health, consent, and bodily autonomy.

The day of the awards banquet, Addy’s stylist and personal assistant came over to help her get ready. The dress arrived in a black garment and both men were denied a peek at it as the three women retreated into the bedroom and locked the door. They had arrived late afternoon and still hadn’t re-emerged in the early evening, when there was only an hour left before their limousine arrived. “What do you think they are doing in there?” Astarion smirked, wondering what was taking so long. Even her dressings for music awards shows hadn’t taken this long. “Gossiping or something sexier?”

“She looks radiant just rolling out of bed,” Halsin replied, shifting uncomfortably in his new, all black suit. He never dressed up, but would do anything for Addy, so he and Astarion had gone to get fitted together. “But I imagine a fancy hairstyle, make up, any alterations that this new dress needed…that’s a few hours time.”

“But this isn’t some huge media event,” Astarion walked over to him, fussing a bit with his suit. “They really should have cut these shoulders a little looser,” he straightened the collar, Halsin ready to burst out of the arms.

“Minsc had me doing more arm work the last tenday,” Halsin shrugged, hoping to stretch the fabric a little. “Maybe I grew a bit more.”

“Perhaps that’s why my pants are so tight?” Astarion replied, giving him a long kiss.

“Has he been focusing on your legs?” Halsin growled, gripping Astarion’s firmer backside.

“No,” Astarion replied. “You just look that good in a suit.”

They kissed until the bedroom door finally opened, Arabella and Carmen emerging with giggles. “Is she finally ready?” Astarion called down the hall, pulling away from Halsin.

“She is,” Carmen, the stylist replied, holding the empty garment bag over her arm.

“She looks amazing!” Arabella gushed, carrying another bag of assorted implements. “She wants you to wear these,” she handed them both neck ties made of bright pink latex.

Addy emerged from the bedroom as Halsin and Astarion took them from Arabella, prowling down the hall towards them as both men’s jaws dropped. She was wearing a skin tight dress made of the same color latex, though there were several wide stripes of translucent material that showed off her bare skin underneath. One ran across her breasts, her pink areolae visible and squeezed tightly against the material. The other wrapped around her hips, showing off the fact that she wasn’t wearing panties underneath. The collar was high and tied at the neck with a pussy bow and there was a heart-shaped cut out over her cleavage. The dress fell right above her knees, creaking sensually as she took small steps in her high heels. There was a ruffled peplum around the waist, that went longer in the back to form another heart shape. The puffed sleeves fell just above her elbows and were gathered with more bows. Styled with her hair and makeup, she looked like a living fuck doll. “I told you their faces would look like that,” Carmen smirked, spraying a bit more latex shine on the peplum.

“So what do you think?” Addy grinned, barely able to move but pleased with their reactions.

“I don’t think I can say in polite company,” Astarion grinned, loosening his tie so he could change it to the latex one.

“We’ll head out then,” Carmen grinned, handing Astarion the bottle of shine spray. “In case she needs touch ups…and try not to rip it when taking it off. It was expensive.”

Astarion had a habit of aggressively undressing Addy after big events and Carmen was the one who had to do repair work before sending the dresses off to charity auctions. “Do you need anything else from me?” Arabella asked, looking at the schedule on her phone. “The limo should be here in 47 minutes.”

“No, I think we’re set for the night,” Addy grinned as Astarion grabbed her ass, the latex groaning against his fingers.

“You’re in big fucking trouble,” Astarion hissed as soon as the two women had left, burying his nose in her perfumed décolletage. “I wanna fuck you right now.”

“You could, if you wanted,” she giggled, looking over at Halsin. “Why don’t you lift up the peplum?”

this mood board monday might be a lil boring, but i loved doing all those style mood boards for annie, so i made one for katniss! my notes will be under the cut :D

first and foremost, i hope the katniss girlies approve. annie’s style mood boards were way more intuitive for me, so this one went through a whole lot of drafts, but im ok with how this turned out. here was my thought process:

• even though this is set in a modern au context, i don’t think she’d be fairy core, but i included the pic at the bottom bc i think the pink frilliness and the woodsy backdrop is a perfect combo of prim and katniss

• so the first thing that came to mind when i thought about katniss’ style was practicality. i initially had a lot of outfits with jeans, but tbh, i think katniss would like wearing looser and more linen-y materials if she’s not out in the woods since they’re comfty and practical. maybe it’s just me self projecting (i HATE jeans, even the loose mom jean style) but i just don’t think the material would be something she’d fuck w on a day to day basis since it’s so sturdy. best to save that for the woods

• i dont think she’d like crop tops (whenever i try to dress cunty for outdoorsy activities the only thing that EATS are the MOSQUITOS at my SKIN) but i also don’t think she’d intentionally wear things that are baggy since i think all the layers would get in her way. but since she’s canonically short i think she has to roll the cuffs of her pants up at least twice

• actually now that i’m looking at this there aren’t very many pics w pants in them which is kinda ironic bc that’s the aspect of her style that i put the most thought into. i think she’d love cargos and joggers, but i think she’d go for a more fitted style instead of overly baggy trousers that spill over her ankles. all bets are off when she’s chilling at home though, then all her clothing is swallowing her whole

• speaking of clothing swallowing her whole, the top left pic gives me peeta vibes and i think katniss’ wardrobe consists of so many of his stolen jackets and sweatshirts.

• her hair! it was v hard to find the hairstyles only bc katniss is slicking everything DOWN. absolutely no flyaways will be present on her watch. other than a simple braid down her back (like in canon) i also think she’d be the ceo of a slicked back bun

• also, even though she does like practical stuff like trousers, it’s also canon that she likes engaging in fashionista activities, so i included some glam options. i feel like the bottom right pic would be after a katniss and cinna (idk who he’d be to her in a modern au) have a glam session and then the option with the dress was something i included since it’s fancy without being something totally out there for katniss. like, i imagine she has couple nice dresses for special occasions but nothing extremely crazy, so this was like a nice in-between

• i think she’d love messenger bags too!!

• finally, the stylistic choices. oh my god! i think her color palette would be mostly neutral with some pops of green and brown, and it was so hard to find outfits that fit the look i was going for with her, but lowkey i think i pulled it off. bonus points for the woodsy backdrops

so long, we become the flowers - Chapter 2 Outfit References

Chapter 2 of "we become the flowers", a.k.a. my cowboy au is out and I have some more meta to post about it! Just a short one this time, about their outfits for the town dance.

Fade

She didn’t take much off, only an inch or two of the dead ends and enough to clean up the choppy mess Hazal had made of it by herself. By the end of it, though, she looked fresher, and the barber even helped her pomade her hair back behind her ear and tie it up in a loose updo. It looked nice, considerably nice, and Hazal’s heart fluttered at the thought of Tala seeing it.

He'd put her in a ruffled blouse and a dark waistcoat. Her blouse, cream and loosely fitting, tucked into high-waisted trousers, with black shoes shining from beneath the hems, and over it all, she wore a wide-collar frockcoat, tight and with a swallowtail sweeping around at the back. The coat was near-black, but with tones of red which were brought out by the light.

It was a little old-fashioned, to be truthful; swallowtails had gone out of fashion some short years ago, but it was what Hazal could afford, and it was significantly nicer than anything she owned currently.

For Fade, I wanted something fancy and kind of gothic looking, but also something formal enough for this kind of dance (I'm reluctant to call it a "ball" as it's got a much less formal fancy-dress vibe and is closer to a country dance just by nature of how small Vennecoate is).

She'd probably struggle to afford the newest decent clothes and Chamber knew she'd be able to pull a look like this off, so he tried it and sure enough, Fade liked it.

As this fic is supposed to be a sort of blend between Austen and western style, I thought it would be fitting to pull some inspiration from Pride and Prejudice into this fic. There are so many iconic dances in P&P, too, it would have been a waste not to include any inspiration from them at all! Darcy does love a long coat...

Her hair isn't meant to be anything special. I pictured a loose ponytail with some loose strands by her fringe. She didn't have the time or spare cash for a full style but the barber helped her style it in a simple updo as a favour, for Neon's sake.

Neon

She’d donned a handsome evening dress, with loose, low straps. It was a fairly form-fitting dress, billowing only a little in the skirt, and with a second layer of looser fabric forming a translucent shade around her top hem. Her bust and upper arms were shielded; the sleeves were too low to cover her shoulders.

Her hair, usually loose, was pulled back into an intricate updo. It was a rather stark contrast to Hazal’s simple low ponytail; it was curled in on itself in an ornate pattern and decorated with little lace flowers in the same bright yellow colour as her dress.

The outfit’s colour suited her well. It brought out her eyes and the gleeful flush to her cheeks. Her stormy hair was near-illuminated by the flowers dotted over the updo. She looked stunning.

And Neon! I couldn't find a particularly accurate view of what colour her dress would be, but I essentially figure it would be the same colour of yellow as what is in her hair.

I figure in this fic she probably wouldn't have hair quite so vibrant as she does in canon (they're regular humans in this AU, after all, not Radiants) so I describe her hair as "stormy", kind of like a deep cool-toned grey. I think having yellow accessories entwined in her hair along with a yellow dress would really look nice.

This kind of dress allows for a lot of freedom of movement, too, so she'd have a fine time hurtling around the dance floor during faster songs!

For the hairstyle, I again went with some inspiration from Pride and Prejudice with Lizzie's coiled updo. I'm sure Neon has a different hair type than her so it wouldn't be exactly the same, but something with a lot of care put into it, making sure it was a nice design and weaving flowers throughout was just the exact right vibe.

Things about the Paz Lives AU that I'm going to eventually post about and you'll all think I'm unhinged. A brief rundown of it.

- The "hallucination" reasoning about the explosion being an enemy RPG and Paz having both bombs removed is true. This means, obviously, Paz lived, although she was in the helicopter crash with everyone else.

- She was also in a coma like Venom Snake. Before XOF arrived, Big Boss as Ishmael anticipated they'd kill Paz too, so he unhooked her medical equipment, covered her with a blanket, and splattered something on it to look like blood so they'd assume she was already dead. Ocelot was able to retrieve her after helping Big Boss and getting Venom Snake, and XOF had cleared out of the hospital. Regardless, she was moved to Diamond Dogs while still comatose, and kept in her room on the medical platform and taken care of there (primarily by my OC, Marlin).

- While comatose, she experienced what was essentially a whole new "life" which, was actually the events of Metal Gear Survive- this is because I made my character in that game into Paz with a shaved head (as she had when she went into the coma) and thought the idea was interesting. Her coma dream life had her exist as an MSF soldier, went through the weird shit of Survive, bla bla bla. It was all a dream though.

- When she wakes up, she has the obvious memory loss that makes her think she is the persona she'd created in Peace Walker- a situation which is canon, except she's actually alive here unlike the game which makes it a hallucination. Her hair has grown back to its usual length over this time, but has looser curls- I use this explanation as to why her hairstyle differs in this aspect from her tighter curls and more "styled" hair in Peace Walker, but I do think that her hair is naturally curly.

- As Paz wakes up and goes through all the medical and psychological treatments to help restore her memory over time, she is continually visited by Snake, Ocelot, and Miller. But it ends up that Ocelot is the one who visits most, since Snake is often busy and Kaz finds it difficult to see Paz in this state especially after the confusion in PW/GZ. This makes Ocelot and Paz become close friends. She is also drawn to him because of his red scarf, which reminds her of the red hood and ribbon signaling "evil" that she wore in PW, showing that some of her memories shine through.

- Unlike in the game where Paz self harms on her scar after being told Skull Face is dead, Paz does this BEFORE, due to hearing a conversation between Marlin and Miller about Skull Face in general. When Ocelot finds her like this, as he did in canon (which furthers my Ocelot and Paz besties agenda), he shows it to Snake. This is where Paz finally regains her memories, and has a small psychological episode in which she has to be tranquilized.

- She recovers from it and begins therapy, speaking not only with doctors in the Medical Platform, but Snake, Kaz, and Ocelot. She remembers the former two, and she remembers Camp Omega. With these memories, she decides that she will stay allied with Diamond Dogs, and not only that, but she wants to be a soldier for them to help avenge MSF and Chico.

- Snake and Miller disagree at first- Snake because he doesn't think she's suitable for combat and Miller because he still doesn't entirely trust her- but Ocelot asks them to give her a chance if he can train her one on one, as after their bonding during recovery, she trusts him and sees him as a sort of guardian or protector. They agree to this, even if Kaz is hesitant.

- Paz trains under Ocelot with firearms, and occasionally with Snake for CQC. Marlin also remains a part of her life, keeping tabs on her health and remaining friends with her. Despite his history as a caretaker of Paz, Ocelot is kind of annoyed by Marlin and doesn't like his intervening in the training sessions. He finds him to be a distraction to Paz. (This particular storyline is gonna be covered in my short comic series called Target Practice)

- Eventually, Paz is allowed to become a soldier for DD. Given an exclusive uniform, knife (from Snake, found on a wandering MSF soldier alongside a photo), scarf (an extra of Ocelot's that he accidentally left in her room, given to her to remind her of her close friend and trainer and to continue her "splash of red" theme from PW), tranquilizer pistol, and assault rifle. Also armed with grenades.

- Once they plan to go kill Skull Face, Paz stows away like Eli does, because Ocelot says she shouldn't go due to having such a personal stake in it, and she isn't combat ready, but she wants to anyways. Paz helps Snake fight Sahelanthropus from afar with an RPG stolen from XOF. Using an RPG mirrors the RPG that took out their helicopter.

- My idea for Psycho Mantis taking on a motif for Paz's revenge would probably be a tear in his clothing similar to the shape of Paz's abdominal scar. Her vengeful mind only briefly controls him, before she is startled and disturbed by his appearance before her and focuses once more on her objective.

- When they arrive to see Skull Face crushed under debris and Kaz and Snake get their revenge by shooting off his limbs, Paz also wants revenge, and gets it by cutting open the same place he'd put her bomb in and placing a grenade inside. The grenade has its safety pin pulled, but will only detonate, however, if he moves, since the safety lever has been kept in place by being squeezed against his body cavity right after being kept in place by Paz's hand. Once everyone walks away, instead of Huey killing Skull Face, Skull Face shifts, releasing the lever and detonating the grenade, exploding him into pieces. The three Camp Omega survivor victims- Kaz, Snake, and Paz- have gotten their "eye for an eye" revenge. On the ride back, they sit close together.

- Paz keeps the pin from that grenade on a chain as a necklace to remind her of her victory over the man who tortured her. Later, after the incident in Shining Lights Even in Death, Paz also has a necklace with a diamond pendant made of the ashes of fallen Diamond Dogs comrades.

- From there on, I'm still working on it, as I'm stuck in the Diamond Dogs/MGSV world and hate to think of life after DD for anyone. I want her to rekindle her friendship with Miller, to spend more time with Snake and repair their relationship (even if the memories on his end are skewed, combining some of the Medic's and some of Big Boss's), meet Quiet properly, and develop a closer friendship to Marlin. She continues to train alongside Ocelot and considers him her mentor and close friend. I like to think after the events of the game, should I think of them at all, Paz continued to work alongside him and eventually also meet Eva. I think often about their potential friendship.

There are old pictures of me where I look dumb as hell!" he snickered. A hand outreaches, twirling a lock of his friend's hair on his finger. He glances down at it contemplatively. "Cause I was copying my brother. Long hair doesn't suit me though and I'm glad I chopped it all off... Brother... i'm pretty sure he hates me. I never figured out why or when it started, not that it matters. There's probably something wrong with me but I can't bring myself to not love him." An exhale through the nose and he drops his head back to the ground, releasing the other's long locks and rolling back over on his back to stare at the ceiling.

"I think it's because I'm better at loving things than I am at hating them. I gotta play at my strengths you know? It's hard being treated like shit sometimes but whatever... You treat me nice though...

so, thanks."

   It’s more for Eve that Kazutora has the drinks on hand. He’d been avoidant of drinking before Takemichi had shown up, whispering about Bonten and Mikey. Afraid. Afraid because it isn’t that the drinks make demons, it’s that it lets them out. And his have already claimed two lives as it was. Where others could say I’ll kill you as typical gang bluffs or just friends teasing each other, Kazutora can’t. But then he’d chosen to chase the dark shadow of Bonten, to surge back into darkness, and it’s easy. Easy to drink at a bar while pulling information from people, to break a face. It was even expected like many things. But drinking here is different than the bar. It’s more relaxed. Something that makes him think of summer nights that were still too hot with cold beers and an abandoned arcade filled with smoke. It’s nice. And it seems to help Eve a little bit.

   “  Yeah? "  Kazutora tries to picture it, but it seems at odds with the Eve that he knows. “ I used to have a really cringe hairstyle when I was real young. Same time I got my tattoo.  “  Anything to piss off his father, to be cooler, to be stronger. “ I think one or two pictures exist. Around fifteen is when I started the stripes. Never went back.  “  Outside of another ten years in a cell. He watches Eve reach out to toy with one of the loose strands, but he doesn’t stop him. Only observes as he seems to be lost in thought, in memories. He understands that well.

   He wonders what it must be like for Eve. To love in spite of that? Truth is that even now Kazutora can’t imagine that. Can’t imagine choosing to love when something seems to hate you. He’s always turned to hatred. To destroying anything that hurts him. Even... He watches as Eve sinks back down and rolls over, yet Kazutora doesn’t move. Doesn’t pull away as well, but lingers, close and watchful. 

   “  Nah. Believe me, I’m way more fucked up than you are. So hell even if there is something wrong, you’re doing better than me.  “  He offers in his own strange way of comfort. A solidarity perhaps in the face of being fuck ups. “  I can’t relate to that. But that seems better. I’ve always hated easier. Hated anything that hurt me. I wanted to destroy what hurt me, wanted things to suffer like I had. I hated this fucking world.  “  He admits, turning his head to glance out the window for a moment.  “  I did destroy some of it.  “ That was Kazutora. Destroying the few good things that came into his life along with the bad.

I'm no expert on 1920s fashion so I'd Love to hear your thoughts as to how they ruined everything

Neither am I! And they didn't, really. Like I said, it's purely my subjective opinion. I don't like anything that came during or after the '20s as much as what came before (broadly, late 18th-early 20th century fashion, but that's just my general favorite category and there were plenty of things within it that I'm not fond of), hence the joke- and it is purely a joke -that the '20s "ruined everything."

(also that was a reference to the Crazy Ex-Girlfriend song "You Ruined Everything, You Stupid Bitch." for the record)

Really, though, 1920s fashion, like most fashions, was a continuation of what came before it. The seeds of what I dislike about it were sown well before the clock struck January 1st, 1920:

(Fashion plate, 1918. Please note the 20s bob-shaped hairstyles, the looser silhouette with straight skirts, the already descending waist, and the predecessor to the low, floppy straw hat. Writing already on the wall before anybody went Full Flapper, and while I don't hate this as much as actual '20s clothing...)

So really, please do not take my disparagement of 1920s styles as some sort of objective statement or Thing You Never Learned About Fashion History. It was a period radically different from pretty much anything that had come before, except what came directly before, and it was the final death-knell for a lot of lingering bits of Victorian/Edwardian fashion aspects that I vastly prefer. Purely personal taste; that's all.

Jack Frost Designs Review

Yes it’s finally his time. This is going to include his book designs including previous incarnations in said books. There are more movie concept designs than book so, let’s dig in shall we?

This was in fact the first ever Jack Joyce designed while he came up with The Guardians Of Childhood. He even comes with his own backstory! (Which was cut. Sorry Joyce posts walls of text so it’s a girthy read.)

So instead of a young mischievous trickster, we got a much more depressing story of Jack. (Jack by default is sad obviously) but this one... It kind of hits differently and almost reminds me of the story he crafted for Pitch. A dad who tried to defend his family but through tragic events was ripped from them and changed completely. Design wise, he’s a lot more tree than snow. There doesn’t exist a colored version of this so we’ll never know if he sported winter and dull dead leaf colors rather than grassy greens.This Jack has a weird presence to him, I can’t put my finger on it. Rating: 6/10 He’s really neat! Just a little too Autumn feeling rather than a blend of both Autumn and Winter.

Nightlight feels like the baby evolution if Jack was a pokemon and that's what I’m gonna stick with. Below is a more recent version of him colored.

In all honesty that one is easier on the eyes proportion wise because sometimes Joyce has ‘interesting’ anatomy choices but we aint going into that today. It’s interesting how his hair somehow looks shorter and longer than Jack’s at the same time. Could be because the longer strands float seamlessly but star boy hair physics what can ya do. It’s a little hard to tell what is his skin and what is his armor, so that is a casuality in making a character only have one or two colors in their color scheme. I love other artist’s depictions of Nightlight but the canon one feels a little weak color wise. Rating: 5/10 Sorry, get some better LEDs and then come back.

Here we have a book Jack but I can’t entirely recall if this was used in the books or not. I digress. This design looks like him still wearing very Nightlight-esque armor/clothing and slowly growing into his new persona as Jack Frost. The intricacies are hard to make out but we’ll work with it. This one is very interesting to me because he very much looks like an older teen close to young adult. His hair looks very fluffy too. Not many complaints about this one but not much praise either.

Rating: 6/10 Not great but doesn’t stand out that much.

Remember when I said Joyce had ‘interesting’ anatomy decisions? Jack looks like he has half a head here and it bothers me GREATLY. This is the adult Jack design he went with. Supposedly he likes the opera and he sure looks it. This! Exists!! Kind of wish it didn’t. The outfit is nice but it just doesn’t fit Jack as a whole. This just screams to me that it’s someone else with a similar-ish hairstyle.

Rating: 3/10 Guess he’d be the...Phantom Of The Opera. (I’ll go home and so should he.)

And finally the final Jack. This is the one that almost exactly resembles the Jack we got in the movies(Probably because it was made after the movie but w/e) but just add a cape on him. I can’t really tell if hes got a hoodie and a cape, or just a cloak+hood on top of a sweatshirt. It isn’t too important because my thoughts on this one are obvious. Rating: 10/10 Edna Mode would have a field day with you boy.

MOVIE DESIGN TIME

Joyce claims this is a design he drafted when Leonardo DiCaprio was considered to voice Jack and I can kind of see that with how his face is drawn here. This Jack looks a lot more like a warrior and less of that trickster look. I can’t say I’m a fan of the weird antenna his hood has but his sword is really cool looking.

Rating: 4/10 Nice bow and sword but it can’t save your fashion choices.

This looks like a lanky 11-13 year old who would put rocks or slugs in my shoes and relish in my disgust. He has the exact look of a snot nose kid and I’m unsure how to feel about it.

His various hairstyles drafted here sort of make him softer looking or just more of a snot nose, no in between. Maybe even an Anime Protagonist.

The top right one almost looks like Hiccup from How To Train Your Dragon if you squint. It’ll be a little hard to rate them all as one individual but why not.

Rating: 5/10 I don’t hate them but they aren’t my cup of tea.

AH- IS THAT A FUCKIN GREMLIN?

Oh wait no it isn’t he looks like a 10 year old. Whatever don’t feed him after midnight. The staff’s design of not being shaped like a G is an interesting tidbit but the whole design looks like he’s really young or like a troll etc. This Jack looks like he thinks girls have cooties uses outdated slang.

Rating: 4/10 This is me being generous.

It honestly looks like he hiked his pants up all the way to his chest. A late teen with horrid fashion choices once again. Not many other thoughts here.

Rating: 2/10 Get a sweater on or something.

This is one is very interesting looking to me. His clothes looked a lot more leather based and very human-like. The tatters, tears and frays all make him look like he was a victim of an accident that never changed his clothes. It makes me wonder if this Jack had the same death as the final movie Jack or something else entirely. Either way, this one looks like hes a mid to late teen which really adds to my intrigue.

This was another image that greatly resembled the design so I included it here. It almost looks like his skin is blue here which is pretty neat to me at least. He’s also got leaf motifs here, which from the first Jack design Joyce made, we can see a pattern here.

Rating: 8 /10 I was originally weirded out by his head but now its not so bad.

This Jack is definitely dressed more like a nature boy rather than him having human influenced fashion and it’s an appealing touch. The tiny leaf sprouting from his staff is also kind of cute since the designers seemed to want to put leafs somewhere on his designs. His hairstyle is also very cute but it reminds me of Sasuke Uchiha in a sense. (Not a setback for me at least)

Rating: 7/10 13 year old Jack is going thru a phase.

I thought this Jack didn’t show up again in story boards but I was wrong!

They look a little different from each other but just similar enough to pair together, so bare with me. The first one obviously has looser pants, slightly longer sleeves and got his leaf motif going. This second Jack is a VERY green. It gives the impression that this Jack made his clothes out of plants and natural materials. Again I’m not wholly sure if greens fit his color scheme but they sure went for it for a while. I can’t say I’m a fan of it because it heavily reminds me of Peter Pan.

However a very similar looking Jack could be found in this storyboard. It doesn’t look as green as the other storyboards made it out to be and looks more like dead grass. Which is a pretty nice touch.

Rating: 5/10 I don’t hate it but it just doesn’t vibe yknow.

Speaking of a vibe...hoo this certainly has one.  This Jack isn’t old but certainly doesn’t look very young, maybe in the 20-30 range, thats just me. He has facial features that remind me of Pitch but resembles the Jack Frost of Santa Clause 3

That being said, I wondered if him looking similar to Pitch was in the storyline of them being brothers.(Which was a scrapped thing, who knew.) He’s a bit more menacing in this design but certainly seems like he relishes in his work.

Rating: 4/10 I’d make it a lower score but I gotta give it props

NOW THIS JACK IS KINDA INTERESTING. This one looks like he’s 16 and going through a grunge phase. He’s gonna play Nirvana loudly and not turn it down even if you tell him too. His staff itself has mini icicles hanging off of it and leafs look stuck to his shirt. Did you glue or staple those on Jack? His hair also looks much longer than his other designs and I kind of dig it( Shut up I’m bias.) I’m not wholly sure why else this design has stuck with me but it just has something about it that I just love. I wish there was a full body drawing of it.

(He also kinda has the same hair as the Jack Frost in Runescape but I wont go on about that hoo hoo)

Rating: 9/10 *Bad Boy by Cascada plays in the distance*

This one definitely feels like middleschooler trying to be in a band. His sticks just resemble drumsticks to me what can I say. I’m a big fan of his shoes and his color scheme screams a hibernating tree in winter. His hair also looks like it’s covered in frost rather than it being wholly white, which is very neat!! He looks like he wants to fight but has slight hesitance. Overall a very balanced Jack.

Rating: 8/10 He’s ready for band practice

Not many thoughts here, I just found these tiny Jack designs cute. His hoodie being a jacket instead just adds to the charm of this one.

No talk to him he angy.

Rating: 6/10 fun sized boi

Now this Jack resembles the one earlier that dressed entirely in leather brown colors, however he clearly is different than that one. I’m gonna say it, he looks like a zombie or undead in this design and its pretty fucking gnarly. I don’t know whats going on with his hair but I’m gonna assume it’s just the wind making it look like that. He just has the vibe that he was once human but was turned into something else entirely. It isnt in uncanny territory but borders that. This version of Jack meeting Pitch and the others would have been *very* interesting. Rating: 7/10 Eat a twinkie Jack you’ll feel better.

The final design! I can’t complain much about this one. The way his staff subtly has a G shape and a hexagon(his signature shape) is a wonderful touch. Additionally, the way the frost is gathered mostly where his hand is such an intricate detail. His signature hoodie is iconic at this point so I can’t bad mouth that either.(I can’t anyway because there's no complaints from me here.) Although, I never understood the leather straps that his pants had or their functions. I couldn’t find any colonial outfits that resembled Jack’s pants so its a total mystery to me at least.

And I can’t go on about this design until I mention the snowflake pattern in his eyes

Pure beauty. It’s at a hue of blue that almost looks impossible to have, combined with the electric blue color of the snowflake in his eyes. The amount of detail in this movie amazes me to this day. Rating: One Great Blizzard <3/10

Ant-man and the Wasp: Quantumania - My thoughts

So its been about a week since I saw Ant-Man and Wasp: Quantumania, so I have had some time to figure out my thoughts on the film. I went in with tempered expectations, after the poor reviews. My first thoughts were that I didn't quite understand all the criticism. Having thought about it some more, I do think there are issues with the film, but I also don't quite agree with how low the film is rated. I still think the film is enjoyable. It is admittedly a little forgettable, which should not be the case for a film that is kicking of Phase 5 and introducing Kang. As an audience member who really loved the first Ant-Man and quite liked AM&TW, it is admittedly a little difficult to change your perception of what these films are like, because Quantumania is completely different to the first two films. Quantumania really is like fantasy film, while the previous two were much more grounded and smaller movies, with much lower stakes. This film obviously had huge stakes, with Kang having world ending implications. I think the real issue with the film for me is that all the various character beats and plots and subplots seem a little half baked. I don't think the ideas are bad but they just aren't as fully formed as they should be.

I enjoyed the first and the third acts of the film, but the middle act drags, with a lot of exposition and explanation about the world and the various new characters. The first act is fun and I love that the Lang/Pym family actually feels like a family, with Cassie considering Hank and Janet as grandparents. I also do like the hook of the relationship of Cassie and Scott being the emotional anchor of the film, because we already know Scott is very devoted as a father and there is obviously a change in dynamic that Scott is dealing with. Once we get into the Quantum realm, things start to get a bit messy because we have Scott and Cassie split up from Hank, Hope, and Janet. Nothing really particularly interesting happens until Kang is properly introduced. The last act, with the big sci-fi battle, is fun, if a bit chaotic. I also loved that Ants actually played a big part of the finale. I do feel that, despite a fine performance from Jonathan Majors, Kang didn't quite live up to expectations as a villain, although he's quite easily the best villain of the Ant-man movies. I feel he isn't given all that much interesting to do. We just are told that he is a world conqueror and Major's performance goes a long way in selling us on that, but I can't say that he is asked to do too much apart from exude quite menace for the most part.

As I mentioned, the character beats aren't particularly fully realized. Part of it has to do with there being 5 main characters. Whereas Ant-Man and AM&TW was really about Scott, Hope, and Hank, the film has to deal with Scott, Hope, Hank, Cassie, Janet, and not to mention Kang and others like MODOK, while also introducing new concepts and characters of the Quantumverse within 2 hours. As a result, Hope, despite being a title character, has no story arc of her own. Evangeline Lily is solid and her hairstyle is a lot less distracting in the movie than I thought it would be, but she isn't really asked to do much. Hank at least gets to use his connection to the Ants in the climax but he also has no arc of his own, though it does feel like Michael Douglas is a lot looser and having fun this time around, unburdened by the anxieties and guilt he had in the previous films. For all intents and purposes, Janet is the co-lead with Scott as her character's actions drives a lot of the story. Its pretty cool to see Pfeiffer being front and center. She's great in the role. Paul Rudd cannot help but being incredibly likable. He brings his trademark humor and heart to the role, though, his arc of being a mentor to Cassie and helping others is not developed properly. Kathryn Newton is welcome addition as grown up Cassie. She thankfully avoids the annoying teenage rebel syndrome. As I mentioned, Majors is excellent. I think he delivered more than what was asked of the character in this movie and I really look forward to how they handle Kang going forward. I also have to say MODOK is not a character that visually translates well in live action.

Peyton Reed isn't necessarily the director who has the most distinctive directorial touch, but I can't say this film is poorly made. I think its issue stem with the writing. I do feel this film is considerably more enjoyable than say, Thor: Love and Thunder, which I really did not like. It isn't the home run that the MCU needed unfortunately, but I think its better than people are saying, which is also how I felt about DS2. Overall, the film is a 7/10 for me. I think I need to see it again to know how I feel about this film relative to the other two Ant-man movies, though I definitely feel the first one is the best.

I would also like to talk more about hair. My hair confuses me but as far as I know I'm a mix of 4a/4b. That being said...keep your white business out of my Black business. Ok? I like to joke around, mainly with family, so if I'm ever online and I say "I have too much hair. Sometimes I just wanna cut it all off." And you say "Get a perm/straighten it." That is not you keeping your white business out of my Black business. Even if I was serious, cuz it be like dat, that does not give you leeway, especially since you don't have my hair type, to give me any options. Ok? Ok.

Moving on, cuz I'm gonna address a few things, yes my hair is beautiful. With or without defined curls it is a masterpiece. That does not mean you can just touch it. If you ask and I say no it's no. If you just go in and freaking rake your fingers through my hair and I pull away from you while giving you a look....please walk away or just move away from me. Cuz why? For what? This is not a petting zoo. I'm not a lamb. Why do you wanna put your hands in my hair? When I went to school it took me 10 minutes, 20 being the longest amount of time, to do my hair and here you go ruining it. I'm a lazy natural so depending on how I feel it could take me anywhere from 30 min, an hour, or even 2-3 hours to do my hair the night before school or just in general. Even those of us with type 3 hair cannot just get up and go, so you deciding that you want to put your fingers in my hair let's me know that you must not have manners. Don't get upset when you get cussed out or someone slaps your hand cuz you had no right to touch them.

Finally, all you snow possums need to stop getting our hairstyles. We done told y'all a dozen times that you look unappealing, that's me being nice, and you are damaging your hair! Even Black ppl with looser curl patterns have to be careful when getting these styles because they can and will damage their hair. Y'all can get away with mold filled dreads that look like the Grinch's fingers but we can't wear our hair the way it naturally grows out of our head to school or to work. And no, the Vikings didn't have box braids or locs. Stop using that tired excuse and actually do styles that they did. The Egyptians had wigs and curls just like every other Black person so you can't use them either. I honestly don't know why you would seeing as how Egypt is in Africa but y'all will do anything to justify yourselves. Anyways, no is no. Period.
