Hi BPP! Just wanted to ask how you’d do things if you were in my position. So my situation is very specific and I really don’t know my place in ARMY spaces. Here’s why:

1. My favorite dynamic among all bangtan pairings is definitely yoonmin. The constant bickering just makes me laugh so much and wish for more. I absolutely love how they just constantly challenge each other.

2. My biases are vmin. I resonate the most with Jimin. His existence makes me cry. I am in love with Tae. Everything about him makes me melt. Jimin is my person; Tae is the love of my life.

3. Lastly, I think jikook are dating…? I don’t actively seek their moments so I’m not really a shipper, I think. If anything, I’d be more of a yoonmin/vmin shipper because it’s their moments I look out for. But jikook is the one pair I keep side-eyeing because their interactions just bring out a lot of question marks in me. They have weeeeird energy, idk it’s hard to explain. How I feel is like how Seokjin reacted when Jimin was explaining the hickey (????) thing.

So to summarize, yoonmin gives me butterflies. vmin gives me a double serotonin boost. jikook makes me release an exasperated but endearing sigh (I say endearing because they’ve still become my top 3, not bcs of their dynamic—too cheesy for me lol—but bcs it seems they make each other the happiest).

Having mentioned all that, I find it really hard to express myself in ARMY member x member spaces (mostly on twitter).

Among yoonmin lovers, there’s a subgroup consisting of toxic taekookers hating on Jimin. Among jikook lovers, there’s a subgroup of toxic jikookers passive-aggressively hating on Tae.

I feel like I’m relatively safer among vminies in terms of interacting with genuine OT7 fans. BUT a chunk of vminies seem to have this annoying superiority complex over other shippers. A lot can’t even fathom shipping vmin romantically. Some of them sound almost homophobic, “u can’t assume they’re gay unless…” and it irks me especially as a queer person.

The thing is I prefer ship-focused spaces because the general non-shipping part of the fandom has the biggest superiority complex against pairing two people together. And they don’t seem to be genuinely open about the idea of the boys actually being queer. And I just don’t like that.

But it’s just so frustrating to not be able to express my love for my favorite duos without having to do it in separate accounts. And I still don’t feel safe even then, because I’m also second-guessing my audience, “u sure u really love jimin?” “u sure u aren’t token-stanning jungkook?” “u sure u aren’t token-shipping vmin?” “u sure u’re okay with them actually being queer?”

Sorry, you don’t really have to answer. Idk where I was going with this. I just like the thought of this reaching someone.

I've got a few more asks in my inbox like yours, and I recall answering an ask very similar to this almost two years ago - all that to say, I get why you feel your situation might be unique to you and it feels isolating, but ARMY is a huge fandom and I promise you, whatever you're dealing with someone else has gone through before and found their tribe, for better or worse.

There's nothing more to it than curating your space. Someone doesn't think you like Jimin enough despite him being your bias? Unfollow and/or block them. A joker is being obnoxious with their hate boner for Tae? Hasta la vista. And so on. If you don't know these people enough to have a conversation around points of confusion or disagreement, why exactly should you hesitate to prune your online habitat? There's no shortcut to curating your space - you just have to lean into the people whose values align with yours, and cut off the dead weight.

Hopefully that should offer you some comfort.

One more thing I'll tell you now that I told those people then who have asked similar asks before:

If you're the sort of person who is sensitive to how other people think or what they say, being in any big fandom will be a very difficult experience for you. Anyone who is looking for a safe space in fandom is looking in the wrong place. You will always come across weirdos, people who lack basically every literacy skill, conspiracy theorists, and high conflict personalities who think everyone's talking about them or that they're the only people brave enough to obsess over 'taboo' topics. It's enough for you to identify these sorts of people when you come across them, determine for yourself if their values align with yours, if they base their actions in fact and respect for the guys, and act in whatever way that maximizes your peace of mind. It could be a slow process, but with practice you'll get it. Taking frequent breaks and making ARMY friendships offline could help too.

I liked reading your ask because you seem to already have a clear idea of what you like, what you think, and why, but you don't seem like a very assertive person so what I would do might not be practical for you. So I hope all the above are better options for you.

Aight so, it's no secret how I feel about this dude. But personally, gimme your thoughts on Cletus Kasady. In depth if you want about the character, if not I don't mind. (I'm more of the man behind the symbiote guy, but Carnage is pretty cool too.) Just curious dude👌🏻

Firstly, thank you for the ask. I always feel giddy whenever someone asks me for my opinions.

When I was having my intense hyperfixation, consuming as much Carnage/Cletus stuff as possible and also causing me to create this blog, I too preferred the redheaded serial killer over the symbiote. I think now though I've grown to appreciate both.

Having red hair myself, I have grown a bias towards others with it, especially since I was bullied and isolated for it so it gives me a sense of comradery? I suppose. In terms of his personality, I would not realistically condone or defend his actions. However, since he is a harmless fictional character, it is a guilty pleasure of mine to indulge in and root for this murder hobo. I suppose he fulfils a sort of power fantasy in that regard. While I acknowledge and sympathise with his background, I believe he is beyond any sort of redemption. Besides, he wouldn't make a fun villain if he stopped being one, and villains are Just That Cool ™.

He's also very charming in his own special way. From what I remember, a lot of people portrayed him as being pretty dumb, like the illiterate kind. I originally never had any affinity for this type of character but now I find it rather endearing and amusing if executed well. He's also got some pretty memorable quips and phrases across different adaptations. As my blog might indicate, the 1994 Spider-Man series version is like my all time favourite. He's very memeable but still threatening as needed.

Unfortunately I've never had the opportunity to read through the comics myself, only seeing what bits and pieces get shared and talked about on the internet. So this gives me limited insight on those story arcs and depictions. Although I am very fond of the relationship he fosters with his symbiote AKA Red (I guess the same can be said for Eddie and Venom. This is another thing I used to be against or disinterested in).

I won't lie, I have simped pretty hard for this man before. I can of course understand why others may not like him or if they find my tastes concerning lol. There's just something thrilling about a himbo that has already shed blood and could easily take your life too. I don't really have an "I could fix him" mindset since, again, I think he's well past that point. I guess the main drive is like a sort of morbid curiosity.

Anyway yeah, that's my little ramble and a look into my probably unhealthy mind lmao. Likely haven't got all my thoughts out properly because it's late and it's been a while since I've been deeply invested.

Now that we have reached the last chapter of the year. It is time to do a 2020 roll call of what I like to call, “State of the Shippers”:

1. IzuOcha. Status: Placated.

-IzuOcha’s could celebrate several cute tidbits throughout the year. Mini moments as they say.

Anime Highlights: The OVA’s came in clutch with moments for shippers all around and IzuOcha is no exception. We got a cute tidbit where Izuku and Ochako bumped into each other and were flustered.

Manga Highlights: Christmas kept on giving to this fandom as the AM doll Izuku gave Ochako made many appearances. A cute fist bump between the two was also exchanged and Mina was right there bouncing with y’all.

Heroes Rising: Izuku super man carried Ochako to safety. And was Angy she was injured. Fans could enjoy the small Lois Lane moment.

Troubling Signs?: Ochako said “I would like to be excluded from this narrative” when it comes to her feelings for Deku. She’s a hero damnit! So if they are in for something, probably won’t be while they are still in school.

II. DabiHawks. Status: Yikes.

- Dabi and Hawk’s very public breakup set this fandom in disarray but also kind of disayay?

Anime Highlights: None yet. This fandom was cruelly cock blocked by Bones. Sorry DabiHawks stans.

Manga Highlights: Where to begin, my goodness. With these fans, I guess the good and the bad is a plus in this homoerotic double agent relationship. We have the notion that Dabi may have known Hawks when they were kids, which may be a positive? Hori sure loves his childhood friends. Other than that. The GIRLS WERE FIGHTIN’. Hawks is now permanently scarred by Dabi and I don’t think it was kinky folks. Tokoyami inserted himself in the middle to White Knight Hawks, Dabi broke up with him via YT expose and overall, shippers could anguish in the absolute MESS that this ship endured this year. But I’m sure that’s part of the appeal. So...yay?

Heroes Rising: They were both in it.

Troubling Signs?: The entire relationship is a troubling sign which again, is part of the appeal. Maybe Hawks will cuddle up with Dabi’s father after the war. That’s troubling! Speaking of...

III. EndHawks. Status: Yearning and Burning.

-If there’s one thing Endeavor couldn’t stop worrying about, it was his hot (in more ways than one) new side piece who probably should have looked at the fine print when signing a contract to be a recurring guest star on “Keeping up with the Todoroki’s”.

Anime Highlights: A fateful meeting finally in high definition for all our eyes to see! Hawks’s unwavering support of his biggest hero was endearing to watch and their shenanigans together spurred the anime onlies to finally jump on the biggest May-December ship in the series.

Manga Highlights: Endeavor’s admiration and concern for Hawks seeped through the pages as we entered our most exciting arc in the manga yet. Fate split these two up yet entwined their downfall together. And that Fate’s name was Dabi...or should I say ⚫️⚫️⚫️⚫️⚫️ or should I just say Touya!

Heroes Rising: “Don’t bite my head off, Endeavor.” Geez, can you flirt a little less loud Hawks?

Troubling Signs?: They say never meet your heroes and Hawks is in for a rude awakening. We shall see just how deep his admiration runs or if Endeavor’s past will split our dynamic duo up for good.

IV: TodoDeku. Status: “Precious”

-Shoto’s “Midoriya is in Danger” radar was highlighted in both manga and anime. 4th User’s quirk, who?

Anime Highlights: “Midoriya hasn’t returned yet.” “Where’s Midoriya?” “Midoriya! Grab my hand!” “Have some of my Soba Midoriya.” Shoto gets it. His emotional support friend is a danger magnet. TodoDeku’s also enjoyed tiny tidbits in the OVA such as a hand grabbing scene. Gotta hold tight to those crumbs.

Manga Highlights: Two Words. “Precious Friend.” Deku comes in w/o arms or legs fighting for Shoto and Shoto’s honor. These two spent the entire year worried sick about each other, and going against all odds to save each other. Precious Friends indeed. TDDK fans ate.

Heroes Rising: Shoto kicks some dog ass and then faints thinking of Deku (and Bakugo but shh. Let the shippers rejoice.) On the bright side, we have a 3rd movie coming featuring “The Three Musketeers” so shippers of TdDk can HOLD TIGHT to what’s to come.

Troubling Signs?: Shoto still doesn’t know about OFA and he’s gonna have LOTS of questions after this arc. Will Deku finally tell him? If not, it could make or break the ship.

V. TodoBaku. Status: “Shining through the city with a little funk and soul.”

-Who knew the greatest comedy duo we needed was Shoto and his hot headed “friend” or not friend? It still remains unclear to Shoto. Regardless, these two had a fun year.

Anime Highlights: “I wanna see your cute face”, disco dancing, and more fun in the provisional license training. Plus the OVA added some cute moments between the two such as Bakugo staying behind to save Todoroki during a dangerous excercise and his adorable plan neatly animated for us. I’d say TodoBaku’s really were resurgent and energized this year!

Manga Highlights: Shoto, that is not how you properly Catch a Kacchan, I’m sorry. But at least you did it you mad lad. As with Deku, Shoto spent the year worried sick about Bakugo. While the anime let us have our fun, these two were suffering in the manga.

Heroes Rising: Again, Shoto put a dog down and then fainted with Bakugo on his mind (and Deku but we ignore that. Shush.) TodoBaku’s have the 3rd movie to look forward to which is bound to have some amazing content!

Troubling Signs?: They have a lot of trauma to deal with. And a lot of Deku to worry about. I also imagine Shoto will be hurt about being left out of the OFA secret. We shall see what 2021 has to offer.

VI. KiriMina. Status: Unbreakable.

-Changing your hairstyle to match the gal who inspired you in middle school? Sorry y’all but if Mina were a guy, I’d say that’s gay af.

Anime Highlights: We got that backstory Bois. Red Riot’s origin might as well make him be called Pink Riot. Again with Hori and the childhood friends though I wouldn’t exactly call them friends. They just went to the same middle school but Kirishima was highly influenced by Mina’s Chivalrous spirit! A ship is born!

Manga Highlights: The influence is mutual! Mina creates a move based on Kirishima’s unbreakable and we all let out a collective “awwww”. Also in the war arc, we got Kirishima making sure Mina’s chivalrous spirit shines through right into Gigantomachia’s mouth! KiriMina may just be the unsung MVP’s of this arc.

Heroes Rising: They were in it.

Troubling Signs?: I can’t think of a single one. KiriMina’s can enjoy a peaceful sailing.

VII: KiriBaku. Status: Crumb Collectors.

-2020 was an uneventful year for KiriBaku but Bones made sure there were crumbs aplenty! Thank God for OVA’s!

Anime Highlights: KiriBaku’s did thrive in one episode! Kirishima reflects on the sludge incident and evolves his quirk based on inspiring words from Bakugo! Hooray! KiriBaku’s can thrive in their blossoming friendship. The OVA also has Kirishima (and Kaminari but shh) once again following Bakugo’s lead when it comes to the training excercise. How can you not? He’s so manly!

Manga Highlights: Not gonna lie. There is nothing much here this year. I did find a teeny tiny flake in Aizawa’s flashback. Kirishima and Bakugo are sitting next to each other. Oh! And at the hot pot gathering, Bakugo sits next to Kirishima! Eat your crumbs KiriBaku’s! There’s always next year!

Heroes Rising: Kirishima hangs with a lazy Bakugo and delivers the most hilarious line in the whole movie. “Silly Bakugo, there won’t be villains here!” Hahah... Silly Bakugo. Oh you~ KiriBaku’s can inhale the fact that those two sure love to hover around each other!

Troubling Signs?: With great crumbs come little responsiblity. No trouble if there’s no content! 🤔

VIII: KamiJirou. Status: Singing their hearts out 🎶

-If there’s any ship that’s coming close to canonization, I think this is it, folks! “Think of the person most important to you!” Can’t argue with Midnight!

Anime Highlights: Kaminari does non stop encouraging of Jirou and her hobbies! He works super hard to learn guitar for her sake! We love a king who can encourage his queen!

Manga Highlights: Kaminari thinks of the most important person to him and surprise! It’s Jirou! All of the feels can commence.

Heroes Rising: They were in it!

Troubling Signs?: Kaminari does love his women. And men. Kaminari overall is a huge flirt. But Jirou appears to have his heart strings. ❤️

IX: BakuDeku. Status: Rising. 👑

-Alternative Statuses include Winning, Thriving, Soaring. It’s just been non stop content this year. 2020 is truly the year for BakuDeku. The shippers can rejoice.

Anime Highlights: Three words. Be. My. Cane. The OVA’s helped fan the flames of the BkDk hearts with a surprise! Deku tops! Not only that, we got a lovely shoulder tap of encouragement in the canon material. While in season 4, Deku’s primary focus was Eri. Bakugo and Deku still had their moments to be hella gay.

Manga Highlights: Where do I even begin? I guess we’ll just cut to the chase with Bakugo Katsuki: Rising. We finally saw Bakugo’s true feelings manifest for Deku and if getting stabbed for him isn’t the ultimate showing of love, then idk what is. BakuDeku’s rounded out the year with the Volume 29 cover AND the volume 29 cover drafts to eat at our heart strings. Overall, their relationship got the spotlight in the manga this year. And we’re bound to start 2021 with a dramatic confrontation. Hand holding seems to be the key with these two and it didn’t stop with Heroes Rising...speaking of.

Heroes Rising: The entire movie. Like....yeah. That’s it. [OP, your bias is showing. You have to be SPECIFIC.] {But random criticizer in my head, if I lay out the entire plot of the movie, my post will be too long} [OP....] UGHHHH Okay okay. The POPSICLE MELTING. THE HAND HOLDING. THE CHARACTER DESIGNS OF WHAT MIGHT AS WELL BE THEIR LOVE CHILDREN. Did I mention? “It’s fine if it’s you?” CAUSE YEAH. Oh and All Might randomly officiating their wedding in their heads like idk. Isn’t it just simpler if I say the whole movie??!

Troubling Signs?: Well these two’s relationship is extremely delicate and while it has non stop soared this year, Deku might not take too kindly to Bakugo almost dying for him. Will they stop pushing each other away? Time will tell.

god i really love le sserafim though. like even if theyre just these 5 members for the rest of their career, they’re perfect together. they’re so funny, they’re so wild, they’re such little shits, they’re so interesting and unique... i love all of their dynamics. 

at first, i wasnt sure i’d like eunchae because she’s very young, but now i loooooove her. i will adopt her and defend her with my life. she’s adorable and the way she makes fun of members (ESPECIALLY chaewon) is so ruthless lol. she’s just so precious. 

i love kazuha because she’s so sweet and so wholesome and so genuinely nice and friendly and fun. she’s my second favorite member at the moment! the world becomes a better place every time she laughs

i guess yunjin is something of a bias wrecker lol. i remembered her from pd48 of course, though tbh i dont remember pd48 very well hahaha. she’s such a good addition to the team, i think she sets the mood of the group very well. she clearly influences all of the random english bits that members throw out all the time haha, and it’s very endearing. i love her and chaewon’s friendship so much lol, i feel like they really get each other

sakura surprised me because she wasnt one of my bias-line in izone, but i’m really really really enjoying her in le sserafim haha. she’s interesting. she might actually be the member i have the most in common with in terms of personality lol, which actually might be why i hadnt been as drawn to her as i am to other members haha... no but anyway, i’m finding myself really endeared to her in a way i wouldnt have expected back during izone days. 

and then there’s chaewon. she’s been one of my ults for a while now, at least like two years, but she’s really at the tippy top of my bias list now. she, weki meki yoojung, and everglow sihyeon are easily my top 3, without a doubt. no particular order, i suppose. but chaewon’s definitely the one i am the most focused on right now. why? well it’s more than just the fact that she debuted in a new group... it’s also the fact that she’s absolutely thriving. she’s more confident than i had EVER seen her before. she’s just as funny as ever, just as cute as ever, just as annoying as ever, but also she’s really come into her own as a performer and especially as a leader. i’m proud of her, but also i imagine that she herself must be very proud of herself! and she should be! speaking of pd48... the chaewon from that era and the chaewon from now... i know they’re the same person, but somehow that just feels incorrect lol. it’s only when you look at every step in between that her journey makes sense. there was never any real big jump or change in personality, it’s just been that she’s little-by-little opening up and gaining confidence and growing up and becoming more of herself than she had been before. i love her

Crunchyroll Anime Awards 2020 - My Thoughts

Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyy these are fun to do. I’m gonna preface this by saying it’s arbitrary as fuck that Beastars has to be nominated for awards in a year it didn’t even air just because of western licensing or whatever - all that does is dismiss the value of anime if they can’t be legally consumed in the west which I think as stupid and reductive as all fucking hell. So I’m just not gonna vote it in anything as like, protest I guess? And so this is a bit less one-sided since Beastars would sweep a lot of these categories lol. Also I’ve not seen Great Pretender which got nominated for tons of categories so don’t worry about that.

Starting with the big one, I’m obviously picking Eizouken. Dorohedoro and Appare Ranman are good but don’t really compete imo, and I think I’ve made clear that I find Jujutsu Kaisen boring, so yeah process of elimination lol. Gochiusa Bloom is my personal winner but just of the options available, yeah Eizouken takes it.

This one was hard since I’ve only even seen the left half lol. Natsume’s not so much the protagonist as Kaburagi is so it didn’t feel write voting for her, and tbh Yuji’s not a bad pick but he’s barely even in his own show so. Asakusa is really delightful but I think Eizouken works best on the strength of all 3 of its protagonists rather than any single one. But evidently I still voted her as a process of elimination pick so. Genuinely surprised Subaru didn’t make it into this category, he’s beyond worth it in Re:Zero s2 so it’s weird that he was passed up on. Honestly though I think I’d give it to Nana of Munou na Nana, she’s an absolute showstealer of a protagonist with amazing relationships with the world around her and the people inhabiting it and she’s just, mad fucking endearing and has brilliant development, really love her.

Haven’t seen Fruits Basket, Overhaul was Ass, Rachel sucks, Sukuna’s barely present enough to really be thought of as the main antagonist in my mind Echidna’s pretty nice but she’s never even really outwardly antagonistic with her worse moment being more morally bankrupt than directly antagonising, really these are just shit picks lol. En’s also honestly more of a protagonist since Dorohedoro jumps between its casts a lot, but he directly antagonises Caiman and more so Nikaido towards the end of the show so I guess that’s good enough for him to win, and hey I do really like the dude so like, you know. Not really sure who to go for as alternate picks though, this year was pretty weak on villains. Hugin from Deca-Dence was fun, primarily thanks to Takehito Koyasu’s performance, but not really a like, standout antagonist of the year type thing. Fuckin Mahito would’ve been a better pick for the JJK antagonist too, I might have even chosen him over En just for fitting the role better. Yeah idk man.

So like I only even have 3 options here because of shit I’ve not seen and rules I decided earlier. Khun is really boring and forgettable, Gojou’s cool and funny but not really much else, Caiman is actually really charming and based and I greatly enjoyed him, he’s an easy pick. Weird to me that Legoshi gets best boy but not best protagonist, also Demon King Academy which I haven’t seen probably wasn’t worth being nominated in both, yeah. Movies seem excempt so I can’t vote my actual boy of the year of Bondrewd, so I’m gonna nominate Ishigami from Kaguya-sama since tbh he was super based this year and I’m kinda shocked he’s not an option.

Very Easy Breezy pick given the options. Kanamori, Noi and Kaguya are the only ones I’d even consider, and Kaguya didn’t really shine that much in s2 compared to the rest. Noi is an extremely based pick and I wouldn’t mind voting her but eh, bias. I’d have put Asakusa over Kanamori here because I like her more but hey. Surprised Princess Connect isn’t here with girls as good as that show has. My personal pick is of course Setsuna Yuki from Nijijgasaki.

Daddy Daddy Do is great but this was between Easy Breezy and Kaikai Kitan for me, and tbh I just find Easy Breezy to be the more memorable song, so. Pretty confident in just that tbh, though Gomakashi from MagiReco and Aruite Ikou from Koisuru are both extremely enjoyable too.

I honestly thought LOST IN PARADISE would absolutely be my lock-in here but NIGHT RUNNING is so fucking good that this was extremely hard to choose. Honestly though with both songs being about as good as the other musically, I think LOST IN PARADISE has to win with its visuals - NIGHT RUNNING has pretty colours and one good sakuga moment with the lip sync but LOST IN PARADISE is kinda just all very colourful and clean animation with lots of bounce and personality. Don’t have alternate winners this time, I’m pretty happy giving Jujutsu Kaisen something today.

Kanamori isn’t my favourite VA performance in Eizouken, I found myself more wowed by Asakusa especially since she was voiced by a newbie. I love how Yuichi Nakamura sounds and he manages to make Gojou sound both convincingly cool and funny when the scene calls for it, but he was never really outright impressive as Gojou at any point. I adore Megumi Ogata’s voice and I liked her in Hanako-kun too, she makes Hanako sound convincingly like a shounen badass or a funny comedy character or a sadistic weirdo or just a vulnerable child depending on what the scene calls for and it’s really great, but maybe it’s on the show not being super memorable to begin with but I don’t think I was really impressed in the long term by her performance here. Yusuke Kobayashi is maybe the best male seiyuu in terms of acting and he didn’t fail to deliver with Re:Zero s2, Subaru goes through the fucking wringer and you can tell from the vocal performance alone how much that hurt the dude - “I can return by death” is a moment that reverberates through my soul with the sheer painfully emotional relief of it all. I have nothing bad to say about his performance. However, while I was blown away by it, I wasn’t necessarily surprised. I expected great and I got it. But Riho Sugiyama as Minare Koda in Nami yo Kiitekure is, quite possibly the most fucking BASED pick in any category in the history of this entire awards show. She will not win. She just won’t. She can’t. Her show wasn’t all that great and went under the radar to begin with, she doesn’t stand a chance against the absolute tanks she’s up against. But fuckin damn does she put up a fight. I called it “her” show for a reason - Riho’s performance literally makes the show. Minare is already such a charming and infectiously balls-to-the-wall exciting character to watch, and Riho was clearly absolutely thrilled while she was in the recording booth, getting to play that character so perfectly fit for her. Literal perfect casting and being an absolutely shocking force to be reckoned with in an otherwise pretty tame show is making me feel I have to vote for her. She deserves it. 

Don’t watch dubs so I checked out clips of these characters. Bam sounded fine but not amazing. I didn’t like dub Echidna’s voice. Hawks was actually just good and well cast, seems to fit the character fine. That’s it.

Tough one, I kinda want to give it to Sunghoo just because Jujutsu Kaisen is not only as visually great as it is but mr director had just gotten off of making a similarly strong looking show in God of High School. However, Eizouken is so visually inventive and striking and memorable that I just have to vote it. Don’t even have any alternate recommendations, this is just kind of a clean sweep for Eizouken.

Was really confused to see Princess Connect here until I remembered that the special effects animation was really damn good and some of the regular action could still be pretty sakuga so. But nah, God of High School. Few productions I’ve ever seen have reached that level of animation quality, yet alone for such a large majority of its runtime, it really was dummy impressive how hard the show went for its animation. Eizouken and JJK both have stronger just raw direction I’d say but God of High School made up for that by having animation so fucking strong that it made me actually invested in its unbelievably bland and messily paced shounen narrative. Like, it deserves this.

Not even hard at all lol. Eizouken’s designs are so stupid memorable and communicate so much about the girls and are really cohesive amonst themselves and their world, plus it’s great seeing very unconventionally cute yet still cute girls that have like, different builds and faces lol. BNA is a strong contender to be sure, but not really because the only design that really stuck with me is Michiru, because she has nice colours and better fashion, but she looks kinda stupid when she’s not furry too so, yeah. Gochiusa and Love Live and Princess Connect are also great choice that I might go for since cute girls, but Eizouken really do be hard to beat. Surprised Deca-Dence didn’t get nominated here too but whatever.

This Akudama Drive fight scene was literally the only one for which I was inested in the emotions any large amount at all lol. Gojou vs Sukuna and Jin vs Jegal are only really visual spectacles, Bercouli vs Vecta and Jin vs Daewi are too but with slightly better emotions though still not enough, Deku vs Overhaul is honestly shit, and Brawler vs Master is a visual spectacle with very strong emotions and great setpieces and a resolution I gave a fuck about - I gave several fucks in fact. Yeah, easy winner of the whole year for me.

Yesterday was boring, Japan Sinks should be in comedy, Somali was just actually a very compelling, emotional, and raw drama - the drama may not be what most of the runtime is but it’s certainly present enough to be valid imo, so I’m pretty happy to vote it for first.

Where’s Japan Sinks? Anyway Eizouken’s more exciting than funny and Kaguya s2 was better at being emotional, while Kakushigoto’s comedy is good and enhanced by Kamiya Hiroshi but the mystery is what really made that show for me. Maoujou though is just actually extremely funny for literally its entire runtime, which is really hard to do, so I’m happy to vote it. Though honestly Dorohedoro should be an option here too - don’t know if I’d vote it over Maoujou but it’d be a really strong competitor.

This was one of the hardest categories for sure. Already I feel weird voting against Kevin Penkin, but I guess his work on Tower of God, for as genuinely great as it was, just didn’t really stick with me like some of his other works. Eizouken should be a shoe-in but honestly it suffered from repeating some songs too much, which isn’t a huge flaw but it is a flaw nonetheless. Now, actual show quality aside, Kensuke Ushio’s work on Japan Sinks 2020 is fucking brilliant. It’s so evocative and emotional and really highlights the dramatic moments the show actually has. I especially love the piano track that plays in episode 1 over the massive POV shot of Japan getting fucking destroyed. Something about emphasising the serene beauty of this chaos and destruction makes it hit harder than if the music was more chaotic. Like we’re in hell, but the track is so calm. It’s really powerful, it’s like you’re watching a car crash - obviously horrible but you can’t look away. That’s the feeling the soundtrack gives. I really respected it. If insert songs are included in OST then my pick is obviously Nijigasaki because fucking duh but otherwise tbh I’m fine letting Japan Sinks take this.

So because of my own roles plus what I didn’t watch or dropped, literally my only options are Kaguya-sama and Kanokari. I didn’t like Kanokari and the total lack of relationship development afte episode 5 in favour of introducing different flavour harem girls that Kazuya JuSt MiGhT fAlL fOr was really annoying since you know they’ll lose. Whereas Kaguya and Shirogane are like, you know they’re fine, I like them, more so as individuals than as a couple but they’re endearing. I can take it. I have 2 alternate suggestions I’d rather vote for though. Yume and Asahi in Mewkledreamy because they’re very cute and have great chemistry. And Adachi and Shimamura who are some very glaring exclusions, holy shit. Love those two and they not only deserve to be nominated but to win.

Hi, uh, fucking hello? Deca-Dence is sci-fi you dumb fucks! What’s that doing here? Also Re:Zero si technically fantasy but actual fantasy elements make up so little of what the series is that I can’t take it seriously as a pick. Where’s Princess Connect? That actually does belong in here! Or how about Somali, also a pure fantasy through and through that would be a very easy pick! Maoujou de Oyasumi as well? God why fucking fantasy of all other genres, all that really tells you about a work is some iconography you might associate with it but nothing else, not the type of characters or storytelling or tone you can expect, even just seeing Dorohedoro and Dragon Quest in the same caterogry should tell you that much even if both are fantasy! Fucking, horrible job Crunchyroll! Anyway Dorohedoro is solid dark fantasy and a great show too so it can win, alternate winners for me are those other shows I recommended, not sure how to narrow it down to just one.

first, when i was sitting on the bleachers watching kris playing basketball until he hit me in the face with one.

no. 2 had a bit more plot. i was at a ccbx concert with my sister and a friend and for some stupid reason they needed somebody on the stage and i was chosen and whatever i was supposed to do on that stage - i failed, tripped, fell and landed right on my stomach, making chanyeol who was behind me trip as well and he fell right on top of my back. and then i woke up and had to laugh so hard about this bc how did i even come up with a plot that weak and idiotic.

the third one was last night or the night before, i already start to forget it lol it wasn't silly enough, bc it actually was really anxiety inducing. sth was up with yixing. there was a rumor about him going on and i just couldn't find out what and everybody was arguing about it obviously and asking for my opinion but i didn't know anything about the entire situation and at some point i woke up and was very stressed bc for a sec i wasn't sure how real that dream was o_o

oh, and i also dreamt of an chanyeol live stream during the past 4 months but i don't remember the details - i always forget them the moment i want to write them down -.-

. if you could spend the day with one member, who would it be and what would you do? well, it would be chanyeol, obviously. and i would love to spend time in his studio with him, watching his process of making music, letting him ramble about it, because it's so endearing when he talks about music and what new things he wants to try and all that. also, music talks lead to deep talk at some point. that's just a fact. thinking about it, i wouldn't even insist on the studio setting, any setting that would make it easy for me not to feel super awkward would do and then just... talk, you know? i just really wanna hear what goes on that pretty mind of his.

. which member do you think you would get on with best? jongin. very sure about that, he is calm and hilarious at the same time and makes it easy to feel comfortable in his presence, i think. also maybe baekhyun. because even if it's the final motive of his actions, i think he creates easy-going and relaxed atmospheres very quickly and effortlessly. chanyeol, yixing, kyungsoo and me would at least have a common ground with making music and songwriting, which would make it easier for me to get along with them well too. couldn't say which would work out best tho.

. which member do you think you would argue with? actually i think yixing. because as much as it is his choice (only to a certain degree of coursen but i won't start overthinking the exact terms of his contract now, this is only a tag game xD) to work so damn hard every single day, i would non-stop tell him not to be harsh on himself and to take breaks when he needs them. i guess that would annoy the shit out of him because i think he might be just as stubborn as he's determined. though i think he wouldn't be too mad because he'd know i'm just worried about him, so we wouldn't argue forever.

Movie Review | The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (Hooper, 1986)

This review contains spoilers.

I don’t know if repeat viewings have made me think this is a better movie so much as I’ve found it more endearing. The movie is undeniably loud and shrill, but if you listen to something at the same volume for long enough, I guess you grow used to it. Whether that’s a good thing for your hearing and/or taste I’ll leave unanswered, but Bill Moseley saying “Lick my plate, you dog dick!” seems to get funnier with each viewing. I still think it has structural problems, as it seems to jump from an effective comic horror first act to an ear-splitting bombastic climax without nearly enough build-up in the middle. I understand quite a bit was cut out of the movie at Cannon’s insistence, including a scene with rowdy football fans with a high enough body count to earn the “massacre” in the title and another where Joe Bob Briggs admires the family’s handiwork, and while I don’t need my horror movies to be overlong, these scenes might have allowed for some kind of build-up the finished film simply doesn’t have. The overall effect is deflating, which might actually be the point, as the movie seems intended partially as a parody of the original, as Hooper was reportedly upset that audiences failed to appreciate the extremely dark sense of humour in that movie. (At one point it was supposed to be a piss-take of Motel Hell which itself is a piss-take of the original, so I guess Hooper just went straight to the source.)

The villains, who had been left behind by automation and industrial progress in the original, have fully embraced free enterprise (they run an award-winning chili truck; the secret is to not skimp on the meat) and bitch endlessly about how the small business always gets it in the ass. Their lair this time, located in the bowels of an abandoned amusement park, is like the MTV version of the original - bigger and flashier yet hardly evocative of the grim Southern Gothic atmosphere present in the original, with the gaudy decor and lurid, overbright lighting undermining any sinister mood that might develop. There’s also Dennis Hopper, bringing dignity and intensity to his sheriff, a voice in the wilderness attempting to wage a one-man crusade against the villains and finally finding an ally in Caroline Williams’ winsome disc jockey Stretch, a genuinely appealing final girl who’s probably the element played most straight in the whole thing. (Hopper’s character isn’t the only one who takes to her, as Leatherface starts to develop feelings for her and tries to make love to her with his chainsaw. He later gets lectured by his family on choosing between “sex and the saw”, with a heavy bias towards the latter.)

Hopper’s performance is lent an added dimension by the fact that he’d only been a few years out of rehab, yet the movie gives him a particularly unceremonious sendoff with a slapstick chainsaw duel and a grenade (a “fuck you Charlie”) that Jim Siedow’s Cook produces in an act of desperation when he realizes his business venture has gone down the drain. (Hopper was understandably sore about the movie, given that it turns his admirably committed work into a punchline.) Yet, when the movie goes full bore for an effect instead of undercutting it, it can stick the landing, with its exclamatory final shot (Williams embracing the madness and flailing around a chainsaw, splitting the difference between the fates of Marilyn Burns’ Sally and Leatherface in the first film) having echoes of the strangely exhilarating concluding images of the original.

Sometimes she wonders what it would be like if people actually took the time to consider the circumstances of Sasuke’s experiences as a whole. Sure, there’s hardly a soul who doesn’t know about the Uchiha massacre...and ever since Itachi’s pardon, there’s little excuse in not knowing the truth behind it.

But even now - after all he did to save their world, and attempt to fix a broken system that brought about the near-genocide of his bloodline - people still think he overreacted. Still think he’s a bastard criminal that only wanted to kill and cause chaos...but that couldn’t be further from the truth!

If only people who thought it wise to badmouth him would walk a mile in his shoes...maybe then they could appreciate what he wanted to accomplish.

She sees it when they go out together. The dirty looks, the frightened glances, as though they expect him to just...explode at any moment.

...even some of their classmates still look at him like that.

He confided to her once how much it annoyed him: making him feel like little more than an explosive tag one spark of chakra away from going off. When, in reality, he was doing his damndest to just...get back to normal now that the council had been taken care of, and his clan has been given justice. Or, at least...partially.

She never saw him that way. Of course...she was also given a bit more insight than some of their peers.

...and yet…

Naruto and Kakashi - and soon after, Sakura - were made privy to the truth behind the Uchiha massacre before the fourth war. Were told of how the village itself sanctioned the elimination of an entire clan, all put upon one of their own’s shoulders...with Sasuke left alive because Itachi couldn’t bear to kill his little brother. The entire affair was twisted and cruel...and people seem to underestimate the effect it had not only on the Uchiha brothers...but the village as a whole.

And to see that so utterly disregarded by them - still doggedly determined to drag him back to the place of his clan’s decimation, without plans or offers to help him find justice - honestly made her furious when she was made to connect the dots. No wonder Sasuke had such strong distaste for his team…! Their blindness to his suffering and need for retribution...their insistence that he had to return because it was what they wanted…

And they call themselves his friends…?

Granted, Sakura (and many other girls) always viewed him in a rather...shallow light. But to do so after learning all she’d learned…? And still claim to love him, even while ignoring and downplaying his trauma, and the orchestrators behind it…?!

...no wonder he snapped at her.

Naruto, too, never said a word about exonerating Itachi, or at least bringing the rest of the council to justice. Ensuring such archaic and barbaric policies would never happen again. Sure, he and the rest of team seven jumped aboard the plan to do so, but only after it was suggested (or perhaps demanded was a better word) by someone else. If not for her...would anything had ever happened? Any charges brought forth, any power stripped, any justice done? Or would Sasuke have been left to simply swallow all he knew, all that had happened...all to spare the village any discomfort or distress?

...it made her angry.

Granted, many of these finer details were lost on her when they first met again after the war. She knew only of Itachi’s role, and the council’s: specifically Danzō. It was only later, when she and Sasuke became closer, that he revealed all of this to her.

And it took him calming her down not to march up to Naruto and Sakura both and demand what the hell they were thinking.

And Hinata is not a confrontational person. But gods...Sasuke had suffered enough! Endured enough! He didn’t need the reason he was fighting to be buried by his team...people he should have been able to trust implicitly, as Hinata trusts her team...as Ino trusts hers, and Tenten.

But that betrayal - having genocide ignored just because they wanted to drag him ‘home’...it boiled her blood.

Needless to say...she avoided the pair for a good long while after that. Partly because she didn’t want to speak to them...but mostly because she couldn’t trust herself not to confront them.

Sasuke ensured her there’d be other ways the pair would make up for their mistakes.

“For now...I don’t want anything to do with them,” he’d admitted bluntly. Something that, in the past, she’d failed to understand, and even chastised him for. But those revealing truths had yet been hidden then. “They’re both wary of me, anyway. Right now all I want is some peace and quiet...and gods know that’s not a strong point for either of them. They need to stay the hell away from me and do some thinking about what they did, and how they acted. Maybe sometime later we can reconvene, talk things out...but the wounds are still too fresh on both sides to even bother trying to reconcile.”

“...I understand. That’s very...mature of you. To just...take a step back, and let things cool. I don’t know if I could do that, standing in your shoes.”

That had earned a small flicker of amusement across his face. “I saw how pissed you got. It was endearing, in a way.”

“W...what?”

“That you were so passionate about it. Not many people bother to see things from my point of view...from my clan’s point of view.”

“Well, how could I not? I mean…” She’d gestured in a sign of frustration. “The council took generations of subtle abuse and bias against you, and your clan’s want for retribution for that...and decided that genocide was the answer? What if the Hyūga had been the clan to start to make waves? Would we have been wiped out, instead?”

“Madara was the instigator...and Tobirama’s bias only made things worse. Once Hiruzen was in charge, it had been building too much to be ignored. But what brought it to a head was Obito attacking with the Kyūbi. Suddenly we were all suspects in a huge plot against the village. But despite our insistence we had nothing to do with it - and we didn’t - their minds were already made up. We’d been Konoha’s scapegoats since the beginning...so when we finally decided to demand change? To be cleared of crimes that weren’t even ours? They’d rather just wipe us out than listen. They knew we’d be too much of a challenge to take head on. So they had one of our own strike us in the back. They used Itachi’s pacifism and split loyalty against him. He was the perfect tool to use...and Shimura knew it.”

“...and now there’s barely anything left,” she murmured, painful sorrow in her eyes. “And it would have been only you...if not for Itachi’s revival, and Shisui having been in hiding for s-so long. But now…”

“Now, it’s we three. And my niece and nephew. Only a few embers, but...I hope enough to keep the flame from dying. Not completely.” Looking contemplative for a time, he’d then admitted, “...you know...I don’t want the Uchiha to be a clan anymore.”

“W-what?!”

“I don’t mean I want us to go extinct. More like..gently fade into obscurity. I have my family. And given it’s just us three men left...our blood is going to quickly dilute. And I’m...okay with that. Maybe that’s the best ending for us. To just quietly disappear as our blood thins. No more curse of hatred, no more being used for our powers...just focus on being happy, and being at peace, rather than maintaining a bloodline that’s been so miserable for so long. Y’know?”

Wide eyes had blinked in surprise...and then softened in understanding. “...I think I do, yes. Maybe you’re right. It would be v-very difficult to keep the clan going as it is. It would take a l-lot of family planning to avoid too much inbreeding.”

“Which was a bit of a problem to begin with,” Sasuke admitted.

“It’s true, all the clans suffer from it at least partially. But I think...that’s a trend that’s starting to fade. Lines are crossing, and I think that someday...clans will be a thing of the past.” A small pause. “...admittedly...I’m not sure how I f-feel about that. My clan also has a very dark part of its history...maybe that, too, is best left to fade with time. But I also love the better parts of it. I guess...we’ll just have to see how the die cast, ne?”

“Yeah, probably. I don’t even know if I’ll have any kids. And Shisui’s not exactly looking for that sort of thing either, from what I can tell.”

“You...you don’t…?”

He’d perked a brow at her. “...guess I can’t say for sure. But as of right now...I don’t have any solid plans. I’m young. I’m still changing. And that too might change. For now...I’m just taking things one day at a time.”

“I...I see. I think...that’s a good way to be.” Still, she glanced a bit aside, just a hint of pink in her cheeks.

     Tiiired~      A wee bit of introspection with Hinata. At first, before she knows ALL there is to know about the massacre, she does get a bit frustrated with Sasuke's dismissal of his team. But once she learns? Oof, she gets mad. As we all should for Sasuke's sake. So many people write off his experiences, and thus his actions. But Hinata isn't about to.      But uh...yeah! ㅡ Chan! I've always been a sucker for main vocals and good dancers, but apart from that... he just seems so warm and happy? Like he varies from wild hyper energy and making others laugh to getting all emotional or supportive of his members (whether it be a.c.e or unb). He's just such a sunshine that radiates positive chaotic energy. I really do love all of the members, but.. he somehow just caught my eye a little more along the way I guess~

Jun: I picture Jun with one of those blogs that has a lot of pretty pictures of nature and maybe some dog pics, tons of inspirational quotes and he'd share some dance videos and probably vlog about how to self care or do some guided meditation posts. (I just see him as a caring person, so I feel like he'd like to help others as well?? Best bet his sideblogs would be a mess though lmfao) Might be into sharing pretty gifsets and odd street fashion he finds endearing. Probably uses lots of emoticons when answering asks and stuff.

Donghun: I feel like Donghun would share a lot more sappy stuff, in a way? He'd either be hyping up his online friends or be venting about his day OR roast the shit out of anyone who tries to troll him. Might share pretty pics and photos/gifd of people cuddling (bc he's always clinging onto someone). Might also post ootds or share fashion posts in general as well. See him as the type to maybe just share whatever he likes/is on his mind at the moment; shares weekly singing covers and sometimes takes follower requests.

Wow: Hm, as for Wow... I think he would have more of an artsy style blog? He'd share his art and reblog others he likes as well. Might dabble into fashion or diy, might also share some workout or dance stuff, might shitpost every so often as well, who knows? I do see him sharing cool choreographies he comes across and such. Would probably post pics of his sweaters and be like "I miss you buddy" bc Eunseo (his sister) stole his clothes again lol. The type to show off his "secret" soft side on his blog, especially late night thoughts or outfits he made (perhaps sometimes matching sets with his sister too).

Byeongkwan: Idk why but I get the feeling that Byeongkwan would have like a gamer/anime kind of blog. Shares his profiles and streams, or shares stuff he's created in-game or his best records. Would share like "top 10 anime betrayals" lists but it would actually just be stuff his friends have done to him he's still salry about pfftt. Might be another one to rb pics of hand holding or something bc he's another clingy lil bud. He'll have his nights where he's drank too much and starts typing/streaming while absolutely smashed and everyone can't help but laugh bc he's all over the place. Chan: I see Chan with a sort of comfy modern yet hipster aesthetic kind of blog. He'll post his favorite music/artists/musicals, talks to his followers like old time friends, probably sound like a tour guide trying to sell you on a trip with how much he gushes about his homeland (Jeju). Dumb selfies with friends and fanboying over favorite artists' new music, tons of memes, imitating famous pics or characters, shitposter half the time, very friendly/bubbly and probably has a lot of mutuals (also real crackhead hours whenever he's hyper). Shares some clips of new music he's been working on or covers of songs he's really into.

just a disclaimer: if you like leo, if leo is your favorite suitor and you disagree with every word of this, that is perfectly okay!! we all have different tastes, and i absolutely encourage you to keep on loving him. this is just MY perception of him and how i felt playing through his route.

i’ve been playing midcin for over a year now, and between redoing the routes i like, i make myself bite the bullet and choose someone i’m not particularly excited about for the sake of completing the game (all i have left now is giles).

leo was one of these suitors, so, to be fair to him, i didn’t exactly begin his route expecting it to knock me off my feet. sometimes i’m pleasantly surprised, though! take albert, for instance – i pushed off doing his route for so long, and only recently completed it. it’s now one of my midcin top three, and albert is a definite new bias of mine. it’s really hard to tell what a suitor is going to be like based on their characterization in other routes – they really can be a wholly different person. i know a lot of people who thought nico was annoying as hell until they did his route (and honestly, if i had done alyn’s before nico’s, i might have thought the same thing)!

that said: leo was exactly what i expected him to be – only worse, somehow. his whole outward schtick is being this excessively flirtatious womanizer, which just isn’t really my cup of tea. still, i remember scenes from other routes where his personality was kind of endearing, and i figured his whole play boy act was a front/shield anyway (unlike idk, sid, who exudes BDE and is just Like That), so maybe i’d fall unexpectedly in love.

let’s start with where my hopes began to fizzle out: the first kiss. any time there’s any kind of noncon in an otome route, it’s automatically just. not it for me. there doesn’t always need to be explicit verbalized permission for a kiss, but there was no reason for leo to believe that that was an appropriate thing to do (the princess barely knows him, is kind of put off by his personality and reputation, and they’re in public). it was absolutely his intention to draw a reaction from the princess whether negative or positive, and the only redeeming aspect of that scene is the part where she quite literally slaps him across the face. it serves him right.

after that, i knew we just weren’t going to mesh well. leo, for all intents and purposes, has Favorite Route potential plot-wise. there’s a lot of political intrigue, he has a traumatic incident in his past and exhibits symptoms of PTSD, and his (fake) promiscuity IS a shield; he doesn’t want the princess or anyone else to get close to him. he’s actually a really complex and interesting character, if we’re looking at this objectively. i just don’t happen to like him.

i find him to be very self-involved, to the point where the princess feels like more of a third-person narrator than a romanced character in her own story, if that makes sense. the route isn’t exactly the most romantic of the bunch, which maybe could be a breath of fresh air if leo weren’t so damn obstinate about getting the princess into bed, and basically disclaiming that he’s just going to hurt her once it’s on the cusp of happening (and proceeds to pull a yuki on her, which. i mean. i guess at least she was in the palace and not the middle of the woods, but still). the princess and leo both are very self destructive and intent on suffering for 90% of the route, and it hurts to watch.

he also never takes responsibility for his inability to properly communicate or even apologizes (to my knowledge, if i’m wrong someone pls correct me) for being a shithead. the princess does all of the emotional work and it feels SO similar to my relationships with real life men that it’s not even funny. like, points for realism, but i absolutely don’t need an otome route to experience this.

It’s a shame that we’re not technically friends since he’s dating Suigetsu who could barely tolerate me in the same room as him. Despite that he says otherwise, I still believe that because of that, he has formed some kind of bias against me. Despite that, he’s a good person and I often come to ask him for advice.”

And I was never interested in dating him in the first place since he didn’t show interest in me at all. And I’m still questioning my sexuality since I don’t know where I stand so far.”

Would my muse sacrifice themselves for yours?:  “I would probably guess that the others would expect me to do so, especially Suigetsu but sadly no. I was once in the past needed his help with dealing with Danzo in my time but he didn’t lend a hand because he didn’t want to risk his life to help me when he was starting a new life with Suigetsu. If he’s in trouble, I would definitely help him out with the best of my abilities, but to die for him?  Sorry but I’m also trying to live a new life on my own. It’s going to take a lot of persuasion to make me think otherwise despite that he’s a real good person that everyone loves.” 

Would my muse go on a date with yours?  platonic/romantic:  “Sure, but it won’t be romantic, lunch would be nice. If Suigetsu comes along as a group date, it might get awkward on my part and I’ll politely refuse.”

2.  What made you notice them?

I mean, he's one of the four members in my personal acceptable age range (not that that's always contained me before...), so I guess he was a little bit on my radar from the start, but I was all enamoured with Yunsung and then... Sunghoon was just there. In my face. In my brain.

In particular, in the instagram video of them goofing around/practicing Beautiful when it pans over to him I remember thinking something along the lines of "wow, I'm ruined.", though less coherent than that.

Also, in the gifset of them being cute where there's the "Bonus" at the end of him being embarrassed. Those two things flipped the already-teetering Inky off the fine-with-Seunghoon cliff.

3. What’s your favourite thing about them?  

He has this casual power to him. He radiates it. He's confident, but not in an arrogant/cocky way. Not obnoxiously. He knows himself and what he's capable of and wears it proudly, but he's still humble.

He's a good leader and takes it seriously, but he doesn't take himself too seriously.

He just feels stable. He feels reliable.

Probably him - he's actually very skinshippy, which I love. He's so soft and gentle when it comes to skinship.

Me. Without a doubt. He can solve this by being near me and keeping me warm~

Emotionally, or? Emotionally I'm not very clingy, but if you're trying to leave the house and I don't want you to then I can be clingy. I feel like we would be similar? Neither of us very clingy.

I have no qualms about saying it first, but TECHNICALLY he's already told me he loves me. Through vlive. Soooo.

That would be me. He's dealing with fans telling him sweet things all the time, and I'm sure that doesn't make him find those things less sweet, but it probably means he's adjusted and isn't flustered all the time.

I, on the other hand, felt my heart drop out of my body when he smiled and waved at me. I flustered myself/was flustered by his stupid incredible smile when I told him he was handsome.

9. What cuddling position would you two have?

Him sitting reclined on the couch or in bed. Me sort of half-beside half-on-top of him with my head tilted back against his chest and his arms wrapped around me. He can lean forward gently and kiss my head, if he feels so inclined.

10.  What colours remind you of them and why?

Yellow because of the instagram video where the GIFs above are from where he's wearing the yellow shirt with the sleeves rolled up because I've watched that video more than probably anything else... Also, there's something else where he's wearing yellow that I'm going to share soon... (호랑이~)

11. What season would you like to spend with them?

Fall because have you seen him in the turtlenecks and long coats? And he can also wear hoodies because Seunghoon in a black hoodie (+ a baseball cap) looks like such a boyfriend it makes my heart ache.

I hate winter but I just imagined him brushing the snow out of his hair and then smiling why did I do that no.

I feel like we're both batter stealers and Minhyuk would come back to the kitchen not-even-surprised to find he can now only make 50% of the anticipated cookies...

Despite him being a grandpa, I feel like I would be the one making the puns.

Moving beyond this, I'm not actually sure cause I feel like he's been taking care of himself for a long time so he should be able to use a kitchen at a basic level, but then I realize I have also been "taking care of myself" *shamefully thinks about the recycling bin full of pizza boxes I put out yesterday* for a long time, and I'm not so kitchen-adept, so...

I would probably lean over and Seunghoon would either pull me back or (preferably) stand behind me with his arms around my waist to keep me from leaning too far.

17. What would watching a horror film with them be like?

My face would be in his chest the entire time. Occasionally he'd gently scratch my head and ask "Want a dorito?" and I would nod, pull back slightly and allow myself to be fed a dorito. When something scary/startling happened on screen he would jolt slightly and I would chuckle into his chest and he would feign outrage at my laughing at him cause I'm not even watching the movie.

personally to me seonghwa is a major cutie who is insanely handsome. he comes off as softhearted, the type to wear his heart on his sleeve, kind and thoughtful, mature and quiet, a bit shy; but also competitive, straightforward, and critical. he’s got his cute side, but he’s got his intense side that’s really attractive?

I’ve noticed multiple times he seems to be the type to wear his emotions clearly on his face, and his heart out on his sleeve.

from interaction with you so much I know you apologize much more than necessary (you have done nothing wrong!) and I almost feel like you might need validation for your emotions…? everything you say, think, and feel is allowed, is alright, and is valid.

because of this I think seonghwa would be a good fit. he’s understanding and patient, and his personality seems quite reassuring and healing. you would never second guess what he’s thinking/feeling versus what he’s saying, because he so clearly wears his emotions out for you to see. as the oldest member, I find that he’s attentive and thoughtful, too, and so he’d very much be willing to provide you with help, comfort, or assistance as needed with anything and everything. this goes in hand with him coming off as mature, too, so he’d be able to both care for you and properly know when to give you any space needed.

he loves doting and hyping up his younger members, too, so I know he’s got a big heart and is willing to share his love. he would more than happily, basically at the core, spoil you with his love and attention. but I don’t think it would be overbearing, because as loving as seonghwa seems, he’s a bit of a dork and can be a bit cheesy, so I think he’d get embarrassed with himself quite easily.

but he’s soft and would always send gentle reminders your way as to how important you are to him, and that he’s always there whenever you may need him. a strong and silent protector.

Day 4 - Who is your ultimate bias and why?

Bang Yongguk.

Ever since I got into B.A.P he has been my bias. Actually, he was my very first bias ever as well since B.A.P was also my very first K-Pop group and as such he has a very special place in my heart. To this day I not once wavered in my affection for him. If possible it continued to grow stronger and it still does.

You might ask me why him?

...honestly, there are so many reasons. I usually find it hard to put them into words (it works perfectly fine in my thoughts but once I try to word them...it’s usually a disaster haha) but I will try.

His charisma.

What first drew me in was actually his charisma. Despite joining the fandom during the “all blonde”-era of Warrior I was quick to recognize him almost instantly. While I was totally at a loss who was who regarding the others (at least for a short while), I knew him - because I found it hard to tear my eyes off of him. :)

His voice.

If you stan B.A.P, you all know what I’m talking about. He’s got the most beautiful, rich, pleasant and warm voice~ its’s actually a little difficult to describe my thoughts on it, but to let you in on a secret...I actually like to listen to this audio sometimes on the train in the morning (I get up at 4:50am every day and ride the train for 1,5h so I usually try to catch some more sleep) and listening to his voice helps me drift off very well and very easily. It’s so smooth, like a soft blanket that wraps around you, right? ^^ And yet, we all know how powerful it is when he’s rapping~ it’s truly amazing!

His smile.

Whenever Yongguk smiles (or laughs) you will find me smiling along with him without fail. I just can’t help it~ no matter where I am (this has actually a small downside haha I’ve been grinning like a lunatic while on the train more than once and had people suspiciously stare at me because whatever the heck could make me so happy in an overpacked train waggon in the afternoon when everyone else is slightly to a lot annoyed and just wants to go home? LOL). His smile is super contagious and absolutely precious. ♥ I hope he never loses his smile and the ability to feel such joy. ALSO: his cute little giggles! *enough said*

You all know this, his aegyo is...not from this world? ;D It`s certainly different and yet I find it soooo endearing and achingly cute~ I could watch him do aegyo all day, I guess. :)

Just Yongguk being Yongguk.

As a fan, I enjoy performances, interviews and variety shows as much as any fan. However, I prefer those little snippets far and in between which hint at the actual person beneath the public persona we know, e.g. when he forgets he’s in front of a camera or when they were all mostly being themselves on One Fine Day and Untact and so on. But mostly during his V Lives which are absolutely precious. ♥ Give me a natural Yongguk anyday, no makeup, no pretences in whatever clothes and setting he feels most comfortable in and I’ll be happy as long as he’s happy. I wish him all the happiness, luck and most importanly health (mental and physical) in the world. ♥♥♥

His talent.

If you haven’t checked out his solo stuff on Youtube or Soundcloud you’re seriously missing out. Because let me tell you, this man is so insanely talented! I for one am very glad and thankful that he actually wants to share his works besides B.A.P with us because it’s brilliant. He’s super creative, writing and composing his songs himself (and also writing for other idols too). Personally, I love “Drunkenness” and “4:44 AM” the most but I like them all. However, “I Remember” is actually one of my favourite songs in general (not just limited to B.A.P). I am pretty sure that’s when I kinda fell in love haha.

Bonus: His V Lives.

Seriously, go watch those videos right now and don’t forget to send some hearts because they are soooo cute. He’s being so natural, cute, caring and funny it hurts my heart. ^^ It`s a little like video chatting with someone close to you because he`s so honestly endearing. ♥ Plus, he usually kisses the camera (and by extension us) at least once per v live. ;)

To be honest, I could go on and on but my flatmate is already laughing at me because I didn’t only forget my dinner in the oven while writing this (no, I didn’t set it on fire and yes, it was still edible), it also took me like 2 hours and she expects a whole novel now (which isn’t far off I guess haha) so I`m gonna stop here.

Thought about how Finn and Poe are depicted in TLJ: 

I don’t think Johnson was deeply racially biased in the way people think, though I think he might have a racial bias that’s not malicious, but also worth pointing out, since I always butt heads with that bias as a white writer. 

I think Johnson wanted to give Finn and Poe solid character arcs to fit with the theme of overcoming failure, and I don’t think he wrote them as if they were Other, because I do feel somewhat familiar with what it feels like when characters are Other. I’m very alert to women being framed as Other, and in SW most droids and aliens are framed like that. also, old mentor figures can be Other, definitely maternal figures, most villains, expendable side characters, NPC-type folks in the plot who help the story along.

Stories have to be full of Others of one sort or another, and you can be Other in a sympathetic light or a negative light. You can be revered or reviled or ignored. You can be reduced to a stereotype or an archetype. And some stereotypes are more harmful than others because of their connection to real world structural oppression. 

The only characters in a story who aren’t Other are characters who get POV time -- that’s just how it works, if the movie makes you see through a character’s eyes, they want you to project onto that character for those scenes. Finn and Poe are POV characters, so they’re not fully othered. Something else is probably going on. 

I think Finn and Poe are written in ways that white men would comfortably project onto, if the characters were white men. Take Finn and his running away. It’s not as if male characters who have to learn to care about the cause are deeply disliked. Han Solo is a scoundrel with a heart of gold who spends a lot of time in ANH being reluctant to help the heroes, and then he finally shows his true goodness and saves the day. Finn being a bit jittery and focused on saving a girl he likes might seem less flattering, but think about all the awkward, foolish white male protagonists who get dunked on a bit for their flaws, but ultimately win girls’ hearts and save the day. I’m thinking Emmett from the Lego Movie as a key archetype. That’s... clearly something that white guys find relatable and enjoyable to project onto. Self-deprecating, but ultimately a power fantasy. Part of the power fantasy is watching someone who’s a bit of a loser become a hero through adversity, it makes you feel like you too could take adversity and turn it into positive change as well. And Finn isn’t even such an overstated example, but he does have a lovable-loser thing going on in TFA and TLJ. And then of course he gets to be fantastically heroic and good and brave, because we (lovable losers in the audience) would like to be that way as well.

Poe’s behavior in TLJ gives me very... uncooked Captain Kirk dough vibes. I love me some Kirk, and he’s such a passionate guy who breaks rules and defies authority whenever he thinks it’s right. And sometimes he gets it wrong, and misjudges the situation, but the narrative usually doesn’t punish him too much. And the reason for this is because Kirk has Spock and McCoy and the rest of his crew with him and he deeply trusts their advice and expertise. Spock will almost always tell Kirk to cool his tits, so Kirk feels safe getting hot-titted when he thinks it’s called for. He knows he has a limiter. That’s what makes him a good leader, he knows his shortcomings and surrounds himself with close friends who can balance those shortcomings out. He’s also a seasoned captain, wiser from having dealt with a lot of messy situations. But (forget the reboot movies lol cause I do) if you imagine a younger Kirk, you can imagine him getting all riled up about injustice and hatching one of his daring million-to-one gambits to save everyone -- and it turns out to be a bad move. It turns out he was wrong. And he gets a lesson about that, and this helps him grow into the good Kirkboy we love and respect. 

The fact that Poe wants to rush out and save the day, but needs to learn patience, is something white men can find relatable and sympathetic.

But the thing is, I can understand people seeing Finn and Poe being written in this way, and understandably perceiving it as race-blind. Johnson put all these bits of character into them, but because he’s a white male writer who does in fact want to write Finn and Poe as likable and dynamic and engaging, he seems to have written things for them that are endearing when a white male does them. 

People see the expressed interiority of Finn and Poe in The Last Jedi and get White Male vibes from it, not because they were written to be disposable or Other, but because they were given White Male interiority.

Now, arguably, Star Wars seems not to discern human races, and since so much of White Male interiority involves seeing yourself as the default and not ever questioning that status, while existing in an industrialized Westernized capitalist society, the idea that Finn and Poe would at least reflect some of that attitude kind of isn’t... entirely unrealistic? 

I say this as a woman who had a lot of weirdly externalized misogyny and mistrust of feminism as a kid because I grew up in a bubble where I was free to express my gender however I liked, and adult women made all the decisions, and had status and value, and men were kind of just there also. I didn’t actually understand the feeling of not being default, of being Other, of being secondary, and when I was first exposed to feminism I was angry because I didn’t like to be told that I was oppressed. I didn’t want to be oppressed, so don’t you dare imply it could happen! I grew up without a lot of the social pressures women get, and now I actually recognize male-privileged attitudes ingrained in myself. I feel like aspects of masculinity (but certainly not all of them!) are just the gendered appropriation of Human Default, which women would default to if they weren’t pressed out of it (and aspects of femininity are extremely Human Default too and denying them to men is very damaging to them). So Finn and Poe being written by a white man trying to make them Human Default (or at least Male Default since gender disparities do exist in SW), could come across as infused with whiteness. Also humans in SW have heavy privilege over aliens and droids so they probably would act like privileged people when you think about it......

Still, I don’t and can’t begrudge anyone (particular a person of color) who doesn’t like that, because it’s probably not relatable and it’s missing a lot of nuance and perspicacity that a writer of color would infuse the situation with, in portraying a fictional fantasy world that’s relatively blind to race to an audience in a racialized society. You have to balance both fiction and reality.

White writers sort of have to learn that. A writer wants to engage with their audience authentically, and writers can’t get that if they pretend their audience won’t be hyperalert to racial dynamics. “But I didn’t know people would have that reaction” yes you did, or you should. “But I want to live in a world where people don’t have to have that reaction since it’s coming from so much suffering and injustice” me too buddy, but one movie can’t change everything overnight. Obviously if you care about marginalized people, what you want to do is make them feel appreciated and comfortable for the space of time your movie is playing. But I understand you do also want to write in your style. All the characters you write will be coming out of your own heart, that’s inevitable. 

It feels like the “why didn’t Johnson listen to the actors” anger is because people kind of wanted to see the actors’ takes on the characters, so they didn’t have to see Rian Johnson interiority throughout all of them. Except... the thing is. If Lucasfilm really begged Johnson to write and direct their movie, he’s allowed to put Rian Johnson interiority into it. Even the characters of marginalized identities -- ultimately, wanting to project onto and empathize with characters of color is not at all bad. Johnson feels like Rose is his self insert. She’s a woman of color, and he specifically wanted KMT for the role. He felt like he could deeply relate to this character. It’s not that he identifies as an Asian-American woman, it’s that he did actually think that distinction wasn’t a barrier to relatability. (On top of that, I think Rose is written to have some backstory elements that strongly parallel her actress’s Vietnamese heritage, and I think it’s a pretty big deal and I wish more people cared about that but we’ve been brainwashed to forget the Vietnam War I guess.)

White writers do need to take care not to project too much of their own interiority onto characters of color, to the point where audiences feel like they’ve been pushed out, like they’re seeing someone who looks like them but clearly is not like them on the inside (an uncanny, unnerving effect). But at the same time, I can’t imagine writing that doesn’t come from the writer. And white writers absolutely need to project onto and relate to characters of color. It’s always going to be a mess and there’s a lot of work to do to get it right but the alternative where you’re convinced you could never relate is not at all better. 

TL;DR: Rian Johnson did indeed fall into a white male writer pitfall, but I think it’s not malicious and it’s also both problematic and potentially a good thing. Also JJ Abrams basically did the same thing it’s just that he didn’t have to write “overcome my fatal flaw” arcs for Finn and Poe.

Johnson also definitely put a lot of work into prioritizing female perspectives and female fantasies and female wish fulfillment and female POV, and I think (as a Female... or. something approximating female lol) the film is a lot better about it than any other Star Wars movie to date. Or that may be because he sat down with Carrie Fisher for hours and hours brainstorming ideas and took her suggestions seriously enough to have notebooks full of them. I imagine he should have done the same with non-white script doctor but when it came to script doctoring and a deep connection to SW, Carrie was kind of without equal.
