Imagine Ashlynn's surprise when you just whipped out another language in your french class. And her surprise when you two had gone out to a restaurant and you ordered in spanish. How did she never know this about you?

She studied with you, helped you keep an open mind and take breaks, she shared her lunch with you in the library when you were too busy. She remembered the date of your exams/tests and leaves you some snacks on your desk the morning of.

It’s just one grade. That’s what they’ll say. Just a stupid number on a paper... But that number could decide your future! 89... That number made your vision goes blurry. Not from tears. From everything. From the weight in your chest and the nausea twisting in your gut and the way your hands go numb around the paper.

Now you can’t breathe. The hallway is too loud. Too bright. People are walking around you like the world isn’t ending. So you run. You don’t even know where. Just away.

Somewhere quiet. Somewhere nobody can see the way your lip trembles or the way your brain won’t stop screaming. You end up in the stairwell. Cold concrete, dim lighting.

Your knees hit the ground too fast and your bag spills. Pens and papers and highlighters scatter like your thoughts. You sit there, breathing hard, heart thudding like it’s trying to escape your chest.

You knew the reason your grades were dropping was because of the phantom dimension. Not being able to sleep well at night was probably the cause but you couldn't help but feel like it was also partially your fault. Because if you had worked harder you wouldn't be in this situation...

You're so tired. Not just sleepy. Bone-deep, soul-sick tired. You don’t cry. Not really. Just…Shut down.

You stare at nothing for a long time. Let the ache settle into your body like it belongs there. Even now, even here, part of you is still calculating how to fix this. How to be better. How to be enough.

You don’t know how long you sit there. Minutes. Hours. A lifetime. Your next class has probably started. Great, now you're skipping class...

The stairwell is silent, except for your breathing and the occasional rustle of paper every time you shift just enough to notice how much you hurt. You don’t hear the door open. Just the sound of footsteps.

“There you are.”

You flinch. You don’t look up. You can’t.

Ashlynn doesn’t push, just eases down beside you with her back against the wall, knees drawn up like yours. Not too close. Not too far. “I was worried,” She said.

You squeeze your eyes shut. You want to apologize. You want to explain. You want to vanish. But all that comes out is a whisper, “I wasn’t good enough.”

“You don’t have to be.” Ashlynn said after a moment of silence. “You’re not a number, you’re not a... A GPA.”

You swallow hard, throat burning. “Then what am I?”

She doesn't answer right away, just sits down with you and lets the silence stretch until it stops feeling heavy. And when she does speak, you feel a lot better then before, “You’re someone who deserves to rest.”

Aiden is the type of person to not even try and still get good grades. Sure, you were slightly jealous but at least you could study together! You taught him some words in French and Spanish (Mostly insults) though so that was a bonus.

Now see, he's the type of person to always always distract you when you two are studying. You try getting something done, Aiden makes you laugh or throw paper balls at his head. Even though he's always distracting you it's also from a good cause. He just wants to see you laugh.

You don’t remember falling asleep but you wake up with your face mashed into your desk, cheek stuck to a page of notes, and your neck screaming in protest. Your eyes sting and your mouth tastes like stress and stale air. For a moment, you forget where you are. Then you see the planner. The test.

The 89.

And it all comes rushing back. Before the spiral can start again, your door creaks open, “I bring gifts!” a familiar voice sings.

You groan. “Please leave.”

“Impossible. I have entered this room with snacks and zero dignity. You will accept my offerings.” You crack one eye open to see Aiden standing in your doorway holding a bag of chips, a juice box, and a lopsided drawing of you wearing a graduation cap that says 'Human Encyclopedia (With Bonus Existential Crisis)'

“I’m fine,” you mumble, voice like gravel.

“You’re lying,” He said, placing the snacks on your desk, “Which is fair, I lie about flossing every time I go to the dentist. But you look like a raccoon that lost its will to dig through trash.”

“Wow. Comforting.” Aiden slid onto your bed, legs criss-cross, “Okay but real talk. You don’t have to be perfect all the time. It’s not illegal to crash. You’re allowed to be a little disaster.”

You sigh, dragging yourself slowly upright. You did everything right. Every lecture, every flashcard, every all-nighter where your eyes burned and your fingers cramped and you told yourself it was worth it. That you were worth it... “I just—I worked so hard. And I still failed.”

“Whoa whoa whoa,” He widened his eyes, popping open the juice box like it’s wine. “Eighty-nine is not failing. Eighty-nine is… A soft flex. A round-up-to-‘A’ situation."

You should really stop chasing that impossible, suffocating idea of "enough." But you won’t. You never will... "Sometimes I wonder what would happen if I just... Stopped caring, y'know?" You muttered with a sigh.

“Okay, okay, I know it sucks but you’re still the smartest person I know." Aiden said, walking over and placing a hand on your shoulder, "And not just because you can explain quantum physics using marshmallows. You’ve survived the midterm apocalypse!”

You laugh. It’s small, scratchy, but real. And somehow, just like that, the weight doesn’t feel quite so unbearable. "Thanks, Aiden."

Logan respects you a lot. He blinks, like, 12 times when you speak fluent French out of nowhere. Honestly really confused but honestly just raised the amount of how much he admires you. You're so smart, and being that way is what makes you strong! How amazing is that?

Overthinks everything. Does he say congrats? Compliment you? Keeps trying to impress you but ends up awkwardly referencing medieval astronomy and ancient mythology instead. He does brings you calming tea though and he's also so adorable and incredibly sweet, so that's a bonus.

You don’t cry. You just... Sit there, motionless on your bed, surrounded by notes and highlighters and unfinished assignments that all feel heavier than they should.

Your body is buzzing, but your brain feels like static. You’re so tired. And even though there's a knock at your door, you don’t answer because if you did you're sure you'd collapse.

The door creaks open anyway, just a crack, and then you hear that familiar voice. “Um. Hi. I brought tea.”

You glance up and see Logan standing awkwardly in the doorway, holding a chipped mug. His sweater sleeves are pulled down over his hands. His hair’s a little messy, like he ran his fingers through it a thousand times before working up the nerve to come here.

“I—I can go, if you want,” He says quickly. “I just… You weren’t in class, and I kinda panicked. And then I remembered how you like tea when you’re stressed, so I made some, and it tastes kind of like flowers and regret, but—”

“You can come in,” You mumble.

Logan blinks like he wasn’t expecting that to work, and well, he wasn't. He stepped inside carefully, like your composure might shatter if he moved too fast. He sets the mug down on your nightstand and sits on the floor next to your bed, knees to his chest.

There's a wall of tension and awkward silence between the two of you before he speaks, “I don’t think failing a quiz makes you less of a genius,” he says.

“I didn’t fail.” You muttered.

“Right,” he nods. “Sorry. You… Crushed it slightly less than usual.”

You close your eyes. “It just sucks. I worked so hard. I feel like if I stop for one second, everything’s gonna fall apart.”

He nods again. His voice is quieter now. “But you’re not gonna fall apart... Right?”

You open your eyes, but don't dare to spare a glance at him.

“You’re the most terrifyingly brilliant person I’ve ever met,” He says. “But... You can rest, you know. You’re allowed to just… Be. Even if you’re not fixing the universe with your brain.”

You nod, finally letting yourself lean back against the pillows. The tea smells like warmth and thankfully he doesn’t leave. "Thanks, Logan... I..."

You look at him and he's staring at you like you’re made of starlight and cracked glass. Like you're enough...

"No problem."

She's just so... Great. She praises you and brings you snacks or little notes that say things like “don’t forget to eat". She looks at you like you're the smartest person in the world and then makes sure you’re resting well. All in all, Taylor's just so... Supportive.

She thinks you're so impressive to. Somehow being able to speak her language better then her is odd but she's thankful that you can remember all the verbs (I headcanon that her and Tyler don't know much Spanish because 1: Their dad's dead, and 2: Their mom never got to teach them bc she was dealing with her mental health)

You don’t even notice her come in at first. You’re sitting on the floor, surrounded by open textbooks, pens without caps, and crumpled sticky notes all while trying not to bash your head into the wall.

Your laptop is still glowing. Your hand’s still clutching a highlighter. But your brain is done. You’re staring at the wall. Not thinking. Not feeling. Just blank.

“Hey,” Taylor says softly, making you flinch slightly. She's kneeling beside you before you can speak, setting down a familiar mug “I didn’t mean to scare you, you didn’t answer my texts, and I got a little worried.”

You open your mouth to respond. Nothing comes out.

Taylor took one look at your face, the exhaustion behind your eyes, the slump of your shoulders, and doesn't tell you to keep pushing. You looked similar to her mom, and that scared her. Sleep deprived, pink eyes, hungry.

“You’ve been working so hard,” She murmured, “For so long. And I know you want to do well. I know how much this matters to you.”

You clench your jaw. Your throat burns. Your ears ring...

“But you don’t have to break yourself for it,” She said softly. “You’re allowed to rest. You’re allowed to not be perfect.”

Your eyes sting and you looked away. “I don’t want to let anyone down..."

“You haven’t,” She said almost immediately “You never have.” She reached for your hand, hesitant, gentle. “You’re more than your grades. More than your work. You’re you. And I love that version, even when she’s tired.”

Your breath hitches. And you feel yourself fall forward into her arms, into that warm, steady comfort. "I don't want to burden you with whatever mess I'm dealing with." You muttered, "You don't have to do this..."

"But I want to."

Tyler doesn’t say he’s proud and he acts like it’s no big deal. But if anyone else tries to mess with you? He’s immediately feral. He cares deeply, he’s just emotionally allergic to sincerity since he couldn't express his emotions in his childhood.

He’s lowkey checking your quiz for fun later and smiling at your notes like a dork I swear it's almost insane how much Taylor teases him for it. He buys you snacks but pretends they’re extras. (He 100% bought it for you.)

You’re just… Sitting on the floor of your room, surrounded by the shreds of what used to be your schedule and a quiz you didn’t ace. Your hands are shaking. Your vision won’t focus.

It’s quiet... You always hated the quiet whenever you were feeling like this. Until it isn’t and the door swings open a little too fast. “What the hell?”

Tyler’s in the doorway, wide-eyed, holding a bottle of water and a half-baked excuse to check on you. But one look at you on the floor, burned out and blinking too fast, and something in his chest cracks.

“You… You okay?”

The words wouldn’t come. Just silence. And guilt. And the echo of a voice inside your that said, You should be doing more.

He runs a hand through his hair, visibly flustered. “Stupid question. Of course you’re not okay.”

You try to say something, anything, but your throat tightens. He steps closer, then hesitates. “Can I... Sit?” You nod.

Tyler drops to the floor next to you like it’s foreign territory. Like he doesn’t know how to do this. Well, he does, he's done this a lot with his mom and his sister but not with a person he likes...

“You missed one question on a test,” He says finally. “That’s not the end of the world.”

“It wasn’t just the quiz. I feel like… I..." You groan, shoving your face into your hands, "It's like every time I’m one mistake away from everything falling apart.”

He goes quiet and you hate it. You'd rather have him leave than watch you fall apart...

“You’re not a robot, you know.” You blink. “I mean—hell, I know you act like one, with your eight million study guides and your color-coded pens and your encyclopedic brain... But you’re still human. You’re allowed to mess up.”

You don’t respond.

“...It actually kind of freaks me out when you push yourself like this. I know you're brilliant, but even you have limits.” He clears his throat, looking away from you. “And it sucks seeing you like this. I like it better when you're yelling at me for distracting you instead of… Looking like the weight of the universe is on your back.”

You look up at him and he rubs the back of his neck. “…I’m really bad at this.”

“Yeah,” You say softly., turning to look at your notes, “But thanks.”

He shrugs, eyes flicking to your hands. “Here.” He reaches into his hoodie and pulls out a bag of chips, “It’s not much, but… you gotta eat. And drink some water, or I’m calling Taylor to deal with this mess.”

You smile, looking at him before taking the snack, "... Thanks... I guess."

If you forget to eat? Ben will slide a sandwich beside you, no words, just a soft tap to get your attention. He'll offer you his hoodie when you're up too late in the library, draping it over your shoulders and giving a little shrug like “You need it more.”

When someone (Barron) makes a snide comment about you “trying too hard”? He doesn't speak but his glare says it all. He smiles when you talk about things you're passionate about, nodding along and reassuring you when you doubt yourself.

You don't know when your breathing got so shallow. Everything’s buzzing. Not in your head but your whole body. Your fingers hurt from writing. Your back aches. There are sticky notes on your arm.

And you don’t remember the last thing you ate. Or slept. Or felt.

You’re sitting on the floor of your room, surrounded by torn-up flashcards and an unfinished practice test. Your laptop is still open, the screen blinking like it’s taunting you.

Your thoughts began to drag, thick and sluggish, like trying to run underwater. And for the first time in a while, the thought hits you: I can’t do this. You've never felt that way before. Never... Never been so helpless...

That’s when the knock comes. Soft. Barely there. You don’t answer but the door creaks open anyway and Ben steps inside. Quiet as always. He freezes when he sees you, red-eyed, shaking, barely holding it together.

You don’t speak. Neither does he.

But then he’s kneeling in front of you. And gently, carefully, he places something in your lap. A folded piece of paper. His handwriting.

You can let yourself have a break.

Your lip quivers and your vision blurs and when your body finally gives in, you lean forward and he catches you before you can fall too far.

Ben's arms wrap around you like he’s done this before. His hand traces grounding circles across your back. He doesn’t speak. He doesn’t need to.

When your tears start to fall, he wipes them away with soft fingers. You don’t even realize you’re shaking until he cups your hand in his, squeezing gently. And then, slowly, he pulls out one more note. You unfold it.

SBG GANG MENTAL ANALYSIS

yup, him for part two. funny thing despite Aiden being my favourite character I'm most excited for the other three posts I'll make, especially the last one. there's a lot to unpack here so

also im writing this with a migraine pls read it-

Part 2: Aiden Clark

ah, yes. the obviously-mentally-ill from the start fan favourite Aiden Clark. let's go.

first, I want to start with something I find really important about his character, what makes him heavily mischaracterized in the fandom. the 'psychopath' cliche.

the terms 'psychopath', 'insane' and 'unstable' are often confused with each other due to media stereotypes, such as Aiden here. one, he is not a psychopath. psychopath literally means a self-centered person who lacks sympathy, affection and care; making them far from most other characters in their franchise. their lack of sympathy/empathy often makes them criminalized, here

disturbing content warning, for an example of a psychopath.

let's take Gressil from Homesick for example since a lot of SBG readers also read Homesick. so, here, Gressil is a perfect example of an actual psychopath. his lack of empathy makes him torment others, he's very self-centered. and when asked why he's doing this? he says he was bored. let's look at Aiden here. what does Aiden do when bored? probably dumb ideas or annoy Tyler. not torturing people for fun. Aiden is just a boy who likes thrills, but he has a sense of empathy, care and justice.

alright, now since we got that cleared out!! firstly, ADHD.

I think everyone in the fandom is already aware that Aiden is ADHD but I'm still going to talk about it just like Ashlyn's autism. Red has also said that she wrote Aiden with ADHD in mind but hadn't canonically confirmed anyone as neurodivergent. let's start with the main symptoms of ADHD, also known as Attention Decifit and Hyperactivity Disorder.

I know about 5 different ADHD people myself and did some research, it probably won't be extremely accurate since I'm not ADHD myself, but I'll try to do whatever I can. first with the AD part, Attention Decifit.

now as seen, he doesn't exactly have any problems with theorizing itself. but the problem is that his attention just goes away easily.

i mean cmon bro was making memes on the job

he tries to do work, but can't. he has a low attention span which makes him not able to concentrate. he can't keep it up for long, he'll get distracted or bored too easily about things that doesn't interest in specially.

it's just distracting. what his attention is on constantly changes, there's more to that after the ADHD part but we're here for now.

the hyperactivity... it's a lot more apparent. but I should explain the insane-unstable thing before that.

insane means that someone's mental health is not in an okay situation, where it prevents the person from thinking normally, acting rationally, very often found together with delusions. the person is seriously mentally ill where it might count as a disability.

unstable, however, where someone is prone to psychiatric problems, has moodswings etc. they're not exactly the most sane person, but they aren't insane either. Aiden here, obviously falls on the unstable side. maybe just a little bit insane if you squint. this will be brought up later too, but it mixed well with his hyperactivity too.

and as we all know, our boy isn't exactly the most stable person. (sorry for the collages, but since there is a tumblr picture limit i have to keep on collaging. yes i learnt from the last time) his hyperactivity mixes with his unstable mindset which makes him incresingly vulnerable to danger- which he likes. from when the first shift happened, he's been really careless about stuff but it's been all about his love for thrill.

and it irritates Tyler, too.

the main subplot about his character is that he's a person of excitement. guess what? ADHD people like the excitement, they like new things, they like the adrenaline and thrill. now, Aiden's main characteristic of being unstable mixed with ADHD makes him an even more reckless person. another thing mixing with the hyperactivity, is boundaries.

this part will mostly be about Ashlyn since the boundary issue only happens with her.

I talked about this on Ashlyn's side on my Ashlyn analysis, now it's time for Aiden's side.

he's really annoying to her at first. Ashlyn is someone with lots of boundaries, like high walls. and who tries to climb them with his dumbass? Aiden of course.

she kept rejecting his efforts to befriend her for some time, until the night they stole the jeep. then she managed to actually bring the walls down, and accept them all into her life. but damn was she blunt.

felt that honestly

and Aiden understands her that night, too.

Ashlyn was hesistant to hug him, yes, he was aware. but she still did which made him realize she was also trying. i have to tell you, people with ADHD and people with autism either have trouble getting along, or go perfectly well. my ADHD sibling for example, I have to push them away for a lot and tell them to lower their voice. but once they remember my boundaries it actually becomes a normal, even pleasant hangout. which, Aiden realizes and tries to get along with. he tries.

seeing his efforts on her boundaries makes something click in her mind. and she starts to be a lot nicer when they hang out in the arcade.

Aiden eventually learns and remembers what she's like and what she loves to do. he already tried to watch her ballet sessions once -got slammed-, he's been to her room where he remembered the mat from and her fighting makes it obvious. I'm sure he knew he'd get cooked by betting that. but he still did,

because he knew it'd interest her. which he succeeded, he saw her smile again. the arcade day went great until Barron and his gang pulled up, but if we ignore that part it all went well. Aiden started to understand and respect her boundaries.

anyways then Tyler fucking dies

he knows that Ashlyn feels guilty. Aiden wants to comfort her through it, but also do it correctly. without going over any boundaries. which makes him really,

really,

really surprised when she responds.

here we see that he's still trying. hell, I'm sure he spent minutes thinking if he should come close physically to help her. that's probably why he just nudged her softly before anything else. he's not used to it, he has to conciously make an effort to not cross said boundaries. keeping his voice lower, try to not be so reckless, not doing anything physically close unless she reciprocates. wow how i wish another someone i knew irl tried that hard instead of blaming it on me cOUGH COUGH COUGH

also other small things to include

he's yapping a lot

he has a comically large amount of puzzles in his backpack for one single trip

and sticks his head into lamps for some reason

but that's just Aiden and his little neurodivergent brain for ya.

now the part I wanted to get to the most.

Borderline Personality Disorder.

first, what is Borderline Personality Disorder?

shortened as BPD, borderline is when someone's mood is inconsistent and swinging. think of it's name; the person's mental state is in the border, in the border line, switching up fastly. the most easily understood and common type is when the person goes from a depression to a happy state. but no matter which state they are in and/or go to, one thing stays the same: it is unstable.

one thing about borderline is that it is frequently mixed with bipolar. however bipolar is a neurodivengercy which means it is what someone is born with and cannot be changed. but borderline is obtained later in life. it usually happens with depression. bipolar is much more random and the episodes last longer in comparison. it may last up to hours, and the person's memory might have trouble remembering their episodes. borderline, on the other hand, is a short-lived mood swing.

now here. here's the catch; people with BPD during mood swings can have reckless behaviour, suicidal thoughts -in his case as far as we know, lowered sense of protecting himself- or a loss of understanding danger. sounds familiar?

borderline's recklessness and dangerousness, sometimes self-destructive acts combines with ADHD's love for thrill and excitement, combined with Aiden's own personality all make up for a great condition of instability.

Aiden's behaviour constantly goes crazy, I think his most frequent mood swing might be his normal self (at least, as normal as he could be) to this more maniac way of acting. I noticed it from his eyes, when he's in a more calm-ish normal state his pupils are a bit more dilated. in the pictures above, you can clearly see that he's still in the episode; filled with the adrenaline, the unstable way of thinking.

but, what causes that? surely a mental illness such as borderline doesn't happen on it's own.

right?

cause it didn't.

it never works that way.

but it can get better.

eventually.

but what happened to him?

personally, as much as a large amounnt of people seems to believe it's something like family abuse I don't think so. maybe neglect, maybe withdrawal, maybe maybe. but we've seen his parents. I don't think they would hurt him like that. I can't put any more pictures, but this is the last part anyway. his parents seem to be kind and gentle, despite that picture in his house. I'm thinking the picture was only for the dramatic effect. his parents said that he used to be really calm and quiet during Lily's birthday, and both Aiden and Ben seem comfortable around them. they were happy taking Ben in too, any kind of abusive parent wouldn't do that at least that's what I believe. also there is that Aiden got serious and concerned when he learnt that their parents were also in the facility, most likely worried for his own as you would have thought.

there was a post that I've been trying to find for like half an hour, I commented on it but I can't find the post now. the person talked about their own theory. if I remember correctly it was that when Aiden was depressive as a child, his parents took him to a thrilling activity like the ones he's been talking about (bungee-jumping, skydiving etc.) and the thrill made him actually get excited. which is why his parents allowed him to go even more reckless, because they are aware of how prone their son could be to the depression.

what happened? let's ignore the parents factor. someone can have a loving family and still be traumatized, someone can be taken care of and still feel abandoned, someone can never have confronted a situation they are terrified of.

one of my theories is that, the loneliness. it must get to a child heavily considering children need to not be left alone, but Aiden was. he didn't have any actual friends since they always moved from one place to another from his parents' business, and they might have not had enough time to make for him (which I believe is bullshitting, every child deserves to be taken some time out for. some people quit their jobs entirely for their child.) and be unaware, and that doesn't change that he was still depressed and alone. his depressive state was seemingly before Ben was taken in. now here one thing with borderline, at least from my experience, is faking actions. smiles, laughs, friendships, conversations... almost as if there's two different lives; one fake, and one real. you keep on switching, you keep on swinging between the sides where you're yourself and where you're just mimicking 'normal human behaviour'.

it starts from faking a happy state during their depression, and by time you're faking it it becomes an automatic adition to your personality. to your mind. once it furthers, it becomes the disorder. Aiden we see is always smiling. it becomes a habit that only breaks sometimes. now, I'm not saying his smile is fake- I think his face is literally just stuck like that. it breaks ever so slightly sometimes. fake it till ya make it yanno? that kind of thing. and when he swings from his calm mood to his borderline-d mood, his pupils get small and his smile gets worse. noticably worse. I'll be rereading the series (AGAIN) and this time look at all the small details since Red loves putting them and I love theorizing so

which, wraps up the Aiden thing! im actually really proud of how i could put my thoughts into text which i never could. i'd love any additions because i love other opinions as well.

I don't understand that? a ship doesn't need to have CANONICAL chemistry to BE a ship the fandom can enjoy. and I'm saying this about every sbg ship, whether you consider it closely canon or not at all. I feel like nowadays people believe two characters need to have more than one on-screen interaction to even consider shipping them, but also?? people used to ship Mavis and Rapaunzel together??? and Jack Frost and Elsa??? where's their on-screen chesmitry?

basically, what I'm trying to say is that a ship can be liked because of the characters dynamic rather than if they have enough chemistry or not. because at the end of the day, this is all fanon? none of what we do with the piece of media becomes canon at the end of the day, we're just meant to enjoy it and have fun with it. so people who say "I don't like this ship because it doesn't have chemistry" are VALID because it is THEIR opinion, but that doesn't necessarily mean you have to shame others who like the ship? (and even if you don't do that, you don't have to bring it up! because if you don't like the ship, just keep scrolling and move on!)

Little Aiden Clark headcanons

a/n: god you are so right about him being completely chaos. this got long asf sorrrryyy

warnings: don’t like don’t read! (specifically putting this here for the sbg fandom), swearing, talk of canon events/fighting/phantom dimension, slight taylor/ben- pretending the asylum plot dosent exist bc this is my post and i get to play god <3

he regresses pre canon with just ben around to watch him and it’s not as chaotic as he is in canon but it’s a lot

his parents & ben’s leave them home alone all the time or at some random hotel while they’re doing work things so aiden is free to bounce off the walls as he pleases

one time he steals a maintenance cart in the hallway of a hotel and ben nearly has a heart attack trying to stop him from going down the stairs on it

will put anything in his mouth.

he’s peak toddler ‘don’t eat that!’

ben doesn’t talk so instead of telling him not to eat things he has to write it down or he just bangs his hand on the table/available surface til aiden spits it out

sugary cereal enthusiast

since he spent so many mornings at hotel he grew accustomed to eating the provided cereals, ie those small boxes of cereal

him & ben definitely stole half the supply and shoved them into ben’s backpack for later when aiden inevitably asked for more

cannot sit still as is but when he’s regressed it gets really bad

many many park trips or beach trips when allowed

him & ben used to play “catch” but it’s more like fetch… as ben would throw the ball as far as possible and aiden would get it just to bring it back to be thrown again

no they never thought about strange this was until taylor said something when she found out about it later on

when canon happens aiden stops regressing for a while

mostly because he can’t get into his headspace when he’s that stressed out but also he’s too exhausted to do his normal kiddo activities so he ends up sad and mopey while regressed

ben hates this.

every single time aiden has said he was going to regress and he needed ben to watch over him only for an hour to go by and aiden hasn’t done a single activity pulled out for him and has just sat there looking depressed- yeah it pushes ben one step closer to losing his shit in the phantom dimension

eventually it gets to a point that the rest of the group gets concerned because ben is angrier than normal and aiden is sadder than normal

they have an “intervention” of sorts and sit the cousins down to talk

ben’s anger deflates as he listens to aiden mumble out how he hasn’t been able to regress and how it’s making him emotional

cue everyone in the room having their heart BROKE cause he sounds & looks like a kicked puppy stg

ashlyn already knows what age regression is (cough she regresses cough) and is able to fill the others in with logan’s help as he also knows what it is

taylor is instantly jumping to take care of aiden and help him regress

tyler goes into Big Brother Mode™️ and tells aiden extremely seriously that he will watch over him and protect him

they don’t realize aiden’s regression is pure chaos yet

but anyway- they schedule a day at aiden’s house where his parents won’t be around and he can regress with all his friends there to encourage him and help him feel better

cue the insanity and impulsiveness that is happy regressed aiden

he is climbing counters, trying to tackle tyler, stealing logan’s glasses to put on and run around in (he runs face first into a door cause he’s already uncoordinated & now has strong ass glasses on), he drags taylor around the entire house giving her a “tour” where he gets side tracked in each room and leaves a mess behind for later aiden to worry about

he doesn’t bother ashlyn much during the day, honestly a little worried with how she’s taking his regression as she struggles showing lots of emotions in expressions and little aiden relies on expressions a lot

but dinner time rolls around and ashlyn and ben start to cook and he’s suddenly very interested in the task

she gently guides him through what each step is, calming him down a fair amount in the process

taylor may or may not have a million photos from this day in her camera rolls & in polaroid form

somehow aiden convinces tyler & ashlyn to play tag in the backyard after dinner

logan & taylor have videos of aiden hiding in the bushes just to jump out onto tylers back while yelling for ashlyn to come tag him

he thinks he’s smaller than he actually is

since he regresses so young he forgets that he’s actually taller than ash and about the same height as tyler

he gets very disappointed when tyler says he’s too heavy to carry around - yes tyler does immediately pick him back up and run around with him on his back for a good fifteen minutes

taylor sits in a patio chair with aiden in front of her so she can pluck the sticks & leaves out of his hair from being outside (ben might be falling in love with her who’s to say)

he demands bedtime stories from logan and tyler

they do the voices & the bedtime stories he gets with ben are audio books that ben flips through at aiden’s bedside so it’s special to have the others read them (ashlyn may or may not have to leave the room cause she can feel herself slipped listening to the stories)

by the time aiden is asleep everyone in the group feels like they need a weeks vacation (only they have to go fight phantoms in a couple hours :/)

however logan says it was good as they now know what to expect when aiden’s regressed

with everything going on it’s still difficult for aiden to find the energy/time to regress so the group comes up with a babysitting schedule to try and help

aiden’s favorite days are when it’s tyler, ben & ashlyn or taylor because he just terrorizes tyler the whole time with whoever else is there to make sure it doesn’t get out of hand

lord have mercy if aiden ever regresses at school

once the group tried to stick it out til the end of the day but from then on have realized that it’s better to just skip the day and head back to whoever’s house is empty

as chaotic and normally happy aiden is while small- the phantom dimension still has an impact on him and can cause him to get emotional or upset when certain things happen

he usually goes to ben or ashlyn when this happens and will happily curl up with them on the couch with a comfort movie going to distract him

he buys everyone in the group a Mother’s Day & Father’s Day gift (gender doesn’t matter) but also makes them cards while small

no tyler & ben don’t cry what are you talking about

taylor gets her cards framed to keep on her desk as a pop of positivity when things get hard

each member of the group actually has a lot of art from aiden while small - they like to compare pieces and pin things on the fridge

some of aiden’s favorite things to do while regressed is to go get ice cream with everyone than go to the park

yes he’s covered in chocolate ice cream & dirt by the time they go home but he’s having fun and that’s what matters

Ashlyn Banner

Solitaire: A major part of her character is learning how to balance her introverted nature with opening up to others. I like how she isn't shamed for being a private person, though, just encouraged to give others a chance, so I'm giving her the song about that.

Oh No!: Ashlyn is a very confident person as far as we've seen (though there are still some insecurities she has to work through) who isn't going to change her entire self for some random kid. Oh No! fits that kinda in that Ashlyn has flaws, but she is aware of them and she decides what's worth trying to change.

Aiden Clark:

Too Afraid: Aiden. Buddy. CHILD. He is incredibly extroverted, outgoing, social, and tends to take up the spotlight wherever he goes. This isn't a bad thing in its own light, however we've seen that it's largely become a coping mechanism for him. This kid's mind is or at the very least WAS in a very dark place before, and it's being repressed largely (at least, that's what it seems like.)

Primadonna: Like the exact same thing as above. Takes up the spotlight because the minute you stop off the stage, what's left?

Ben Clark:

I Am Not a Robot: Ben is a very stoic-seeming character. We've gotten to know him and he's a gentle, kind-hearted, nervous, and sweet person, albeit one with astoundingly destructive and angry tendencies. A bit part of his character, to me, has been seeing him balance not allowing his rage to run away with him but also not bottling up until it overflows. He is NOT a robot.

Valley of The Dolls: Yeah this song's about a book I've never read so uhhhhh ANYWAYS. Ben's past self was ANGRY. He was hurt and upset. No matter how many people he fought, or how much it hurt, he couldn't feel better, if anything at all. There was an emptiness he couldn't heal. Maybe it's still there. But he's healing.

Logan Fields:

Karma: I think this song could fit his relationship with his bully (Baron or Barron? Can't remember how to spell it), especially in the arcade fight scene (LOVED IT). Baron has been getting away with horrific acts simply because nobody knew, but now that it's come to light, now that Logan is stronger, now that he has people in his corner, karma's coming.

The Family Jewels: I'm concerned about Logan's home life, honestly. We don't know (as far as I'm aware) why he lives with his grandparents. Did something happen to his parents? Is he an orphan? Is he not with them for another reason? Also, what's going on with his grandparents? Is it because they're florists that they have access to painkillers and sedative type drugs, or another reason?

Taylor Hernández:

Orange Trees: I don't even know. I just really like the song. And I really like Taylor. And i think she would vibe to it. Taylor has a really fun personality and I think this fits her.

Can't Pin Me Down: On a more serious note, oftentimes Taylor (by both characters and the fandom, myself included) is unfortunately reduced to "aww happygolucky bestgirl!" Especially after Tyler's tragedy, we've gotten to see a new side of her: fierce loyalty and pure anger that stems from her kindness. She's going off the rails and I LOVE this for her, but I can only hope she doesn't lash at out the wrong people.

Tyler Hernández:

Are You Satisfied?: Giving him one of my ALL TIME favorite songs! Since the death of their father, Tyler has been caring for both his mother and sister and keeping the household afloat effectively. Through this, my dude doesn't seem to know what it means to take a break. He needs one.

Highly Emotional People: Furthermore on that note, I can see Taylor saying these lyrics to her twin brother. Tyler has gotten to used to being the caregiver at such a young age he doesn't seem sure how to be cared FOR. My dude is repressing and lashing out and everything in a very unhealthy way. If anything good comes out of the tree kebab, it's forcing him to accept outside help and let others take on some burdens. We're highly emotional people, and everyone deserves to show that.

Oh my lord did this girl overthink things. She spent days thinking about it before eventually asking, "Would you go to prom with me?" Fortunately, you said yes, and her parents were so excited when they found out you were her date to prom!

Honestly, she's pretty nervous. She didn't really think this far since she was so sure you would say no, so she had no idea what she was doing. Thankfully, you didn't know either.

For Ashlynn's outfit, she wore her hair up in a high pony tail and wore a suit. (Like that one art that Red posted I believe!)

She's not really a big dancing person, especially with the loud speakers and stuff like that, but if you asked her too she'd do it for you. She's actually really light on her feet (Obviously because she did ballet) and you too had a great time together! "Thanks for... Doing this with me."

AIDEN:

This one’s not subtle. He goes big. Tbh, I'm just imagining Aiden show up at your house with a loud speaker playing that one song that goes, 'What is LOOOVE baby don't hurt me' or something like that with a huge sign with puns like “Out of All the Fish in the Sea… Will You Go to Prom With Me?” or “I Know This is Cheesy, But I’d Relish Going to Prom With You!”

Even though he seems pretty excited, that's mostly because he's nervous. You're just so charming and stunning, what if he passes out?!

He probably wears a suit, much to his dismay. His tie is loose, his hair is messy, but he still looks much more put together then usual. You're not used to seeing him clean up well so it's a surprise.

I swear he's everywhere at once. His energy is slightly overwhelming, but never boring. He drags you onto the dance floor IMMEDIATELY and even afterwards he WILL try to dance with you every 10 minutes. But you two enjoyed every minute of it because what was better then spending time with someone you love? "This is better then I imagined it to be, y'know?" (Platonically or romantically)

LOGAN:

He overprepared. Runs through a whole script in their head and still forgets half of it when the moment comes. But he did give you an adorable bouquet of flowers from his grandparents, “I-I made this… it’s okay if you say no, I just thought maybe… You would go to prom with me?" It was awkward, but so genuine that it was impossible not to smile and say no (Not like you were planning to anyways).

Obviously he was nervous, who wouldn't have been? He wasn't sure why you said yes or why he even asked you in the first place! Well, he knew why. You were kind, breathtaking, and so amazing it was hard to NOT ask you!

He wore a classic suit that’s just slightly too big since it was his grandfathers from when he was younger (That surpisingly fit him). His hair was fussed with too much, then immediately messed up by nerve but you loved it.

He started the night super stiff and unsure of what to do. Kind of hugs the wall or hovers near the snacks. He's also very sweet and respectful and nervously offers his hand for slow dances. "I'm really glad you came with me.”

TAYLOR:

She didn't need a huge stunt, she just wanted to make you feel special. Probably does something simple but meaningful like bringing flowers and a handmade sign with an inside joke.

She likes you a lot. You're honestly the best friend (Maybe???) she ever had and she had been looking forward to asking you out for prom. She doesn't exactly know what she's doing but she wants to make sure you're having a good time with her as much as she will with you!

Probably wore a flowy dress, something that feels easy and bright. Her hair was probably soft and styled up in a low bun. She looked so effortlessly cute and sort of 'spring-themed'.

Greeted you with a hug and a compliment. On the dance floor, she knew all the lyrics and danced kind of clumsily (But you loved it anyways) with zero shame because why would she be ashamed when she was having a great time with you?

At some point, you caught her staring at you with a small smile while holding your hand. “This is a good night.”

TYLER:

Absolutely NOT the kind to plan a big promposal. They’d rather be set on fire. But it's you. And you're the best. So he'll try plan something (With Taylor's help of course). Of course, he got embarrassed halfway through and abandoned the fancy stuff and just handed you the gift instead.

He's trying to be chill but is definitely dying inside. He's definitely brushing off his emotions though since he doesn't know exactly what to do.

His suit is pretty minimalist, it was his dads (Bittersweet, I know), and he didn't know how his family or you were going to react. His mom almost cried but smiled and told him he looked just like his dad, his sister teased him all night. He says he's not dressing up for anyone but then proceeds to look amazing.

He pretends that his doesn't care about prom but he show up. On time. Looking great. On the dance floor, he makes comments about how stupid the slow dance is but will sway along with you during prom with a small smile on his face when you look away (He's whipped).

BEN

He's actually such a chill guy I'm not even joking bro. He'd give you a small music box, sheet music, or a handmade card that says something like: “I can’t say it out loud… But will you go to prom with me?” (Yes Aiden pushed him to ask you out) or play a song on the guitar beforehand (And yes Tyler had to teach him)

Probably would wear a classy suit of course but would match whatever color your wearing as well. There's a sort of soft elegance that Ben has whenever you see him.

Prom is a sensory experience for him. He feels it deeply. The music vibrating through his chest, lights pulsing like a heartbeat, people laughing and dancing.

He'll tap you on the shoulder and point at the dancefloor. You'll gladly dance with him, and sway with him. Your practically glowing in his eyes, laughing and smiling and looking at him. Your here for him.

don’t get me wrong i understand getting attached to minor characters more as much as the next autism riddled person but again i am very curious

Before we begin, I'm actually not autistic, so you can't use that as an explanation. I've been tested a lot through my life, due to other mental illnesses, and I always score so low it's almost uncanny. Hyper-fixating on nerd stuff is my One Thing that gives me points in tests, but that's it. So no, that's not the reason I like minor characters.

Ignoring the fact that this actually feels like a weird thing to have to explain at all, I'm gonna go ahead and answer anyway:

I have no idea. As in I don't know what happened initially, but I have a couple of theories. Firstly, I'm a whole ass Adult. Like, mid-thirties at this point. That means I'm more or less uninterested in creating content about the kids, because I do dick jokes and write smut and I don't personally feel like combining those with young characters. The Sugar Bowl Generation is where it's at for me. And if you've been around the fandom for a bit, you will have noticed that people who are into the SBG have to do quite a lot of legwork to keep ourselves stimulated. Our enclosure is pretty low on natural enrichment tbh.

The Denouements are a pretty niche focus, I'll give you that. However, what we have is so interesting to me. Like, the fucking Spotter's Guide that @lyeekha made actually goes a long way to explain my initial infatuation. I love some deceit and mystery that can be unravelled by careful observation of micro expressions, you know? It's very satisfying.

And I just love them, you know? I can't explain it better than that. I'd drop in the fact that I'm very physically attracted to Max Greenfield in the role(s), but I'm pretty sure that's obvious. And it doesn't matter nearly as much as my fascination with the essence of the characters that I've so carefully cobbled together from scraps I found on the trash heap of canon (how's that for a metaphor though?)

SBG Infection AU (HEAVY FAST PASS SPOILERS)

Double spoiler warning here. Technical body horror. Blood.

haha, I came up with another SBG AU bc of the MLP fandom.

So, basic idea is that instead of being sent to the phantom realm every night, it is in fact a fungus infection. However, the phantoms are still in play of this. Once the host is infected, they go in a coma, and the infection takes place. As the days progress, the patient gets more violent, becoming these tall beings with large mouths. They have no conscious, and are practically dead by the time they start transforming. Ashlyn's friends, however, are different. Ashlyn of course is immune, only experiencing hallucinations along with her friends. But, her friends aren't entirely immune. As follows the series' deaths, Tyler would be the first to begin transforming. Because of his relative closeness to Ash, he develops more slowly. Aiden, however, since he is closest to Ash, his development is the quickest. He is first to turn.

Sure, it still takes some time, but it was extremely quick compared to the others.

Stage one- Kids are normal, nothing is wrong.

Stage two- Kids start acting more tired, more lethargic. They can barely function, and had lost interest in activities. However, they constantly smile, despite shivering lips.

Stage three- Smiles increasingly widen, black ooze dripping from mouths. Teeth start to grow unnaturally, eyes widen and red. Nails had grown incredibally fast, and are pitch black. Height is slightly taller.

Stage four- Tall, humanoid, unnatural figure. Smile is inhumanely large and wide open. Eyes are huge and tall, plus red. Ribcage is showing, body mass had increased. Hands are pitch black, nails are now claws. Teeth had grown and spread, letting more teeth grow. Pitch black mouths. Black goop (assumed as the infection blood) drips out. Mysterious injuries appear in some spots, not consistent. Strange noise, resembles...

Phantom noises.
