hey sorry um. bad news, we put your boyfriend in a blood pool. yeah like a communion pool but instead of water it was full of blood. he's really into the absolutist belief of a divinely appointed fate now. sorry.

I had a g/t dream last night and oh my god? oh my god
so it was set in this dilapidated world where everything was in ruins. there was a giant entity that was 1,000 feet tall, made of shifting tendrils that looked like smoke and vines. this form was more masculine, but it was also very lovecraftian horror. they never looked the same every time you looked at them. they would sweep through the ruins, taking humans up into their smoke to ‘paradise’. all you could do was try to hide and hope it didn’t find you
so I kept hiding, feeling this massive being looming over me constantly, until one day I got tired of hiding and stopped. I stared out the window and watch them shift and glow, and they noticed me. and then they vanished. I turned around, and in the ruins of the house I was staying in, there was suddenly a woman. the being. she was more humanoid and twelve feet tall, and held out their hand. I asked why. they said I was to be their beloved, and that we were forever intertwined from that point forward. they said they’d been looking for me. I took their giant hands in my tiny ones, and they smiled at me with far too many teeth, and then I woke up
man.

hey it's been a really long time since I read LotR, are the elves actually taller than men or did everyone cumulatively gaslight each other into deciding that elves are extremely tall for no reason

19. Taken
A different POV this time and also. Things. And Stuff. And the consecuences of dying in possession of a Herrscher core (ok, it was the Gem of Haste, but terminology aside, they're the same thing)
*.*.*
Possession was… strange.
Oh, it was more than that, naturally. It was horrifying, awful and a violation of everything he was and stood for in the worst way possible. He didn’t know if it was practicality or some twisted kind of mercy, but Thancred was unwillingly grateful to the asshole possessing him for smothering him into a ball of unconsciousness ninety percent of the time.
The other ten percent…
The existential dread alone will haunt Thancred’s nightmares for years to come.
But in his awake moments, few and far in between as they were, in those precious few moments when his soul would stop shrinking with disgust and self hatred, whenever the clamps on his mind were loosened enough to form a coherent thought, those thoughts drifted to his family.
Lahabrea had pounced on those thoughts, picking apart his memories, sometimes with words, sometimes literally, if the torturous feeling of claws digging and digging into somewhere unfathomable was anything to go by; searching for secrets, for half-truths, for impressions, for knowledge, for who knows what.
Thancred certainly didn’t.
He had tried, in the beginning, to gather as much information as he gave away. Thancred was a spy, he was trained for the eventuality (the certainty) of capture. Unfortunately, no training could’ve prepared him for being possessed, or for interrogation that ignored all barriers of the flesh and mind and simply scrapped the knowledge from his hollowed up sense of self.
Usually, by the time they reach that point, Thancred would be the soul equivalent of crumpled into a ball of misery, sobbing and babbling incoherently about anything, everything, as long as the pain ended.
And then he would be smothered again because Lahabrea could dish out the torture, but the monster apparently didn’t have the stomach to see it through, to watch the soul, his soul, unravel and flee the mortal coil. So instead of letting him go or letting him disperse, he'd be stuffed back in his cage and left alone to recover. For a time.
Hephaistos, you wretched coward.
Every time he ‘woke up’ he remembered less. It took him longer to find his footing, to remember that he was a prisoner in his own body, mind and soul scrunched into a ball and locked in some cramped corner where Lahabrea didn’t have to acknowledge him.
Not that Lahabrea paid him much mind lately. And why would he? Thancred didn’t think he had any knowledge worth anything. Not anymore. The thing that Lahabrea wanted the most, Thancred barely knew anything about.
At least he didn’t think so. His memories of the last few times he ‘woke up’ were… fuzzy. But he remembered Lahabrea demanding what he knew about their newest member. What was her name? His memory was mush lately. He remembered it was something foreign. Himiko or Himeko or something.
Sucks to be Lahabrea, though. Thancred had barely gotten enough free time to share some conversation over some drinks, his knowledge of their new recruit could fit a pamphlet, if that.
Himeko was gorgeous, witty and had a terrible sense of humor, dark as anything you could find immediately after the Calamity. She was lost, sad and in dire need of a friendly ear. She drank him under the table with no effort whatsoever, but instead of waking up naked as usual when he went on a bender with a potential partner, he woke up tucked in and comfortable. She had looked stricken at his confusion and then she had distracted him by teasing him and laughing loud enough to turn his mild hangover into a beast the size of Bahamut.
Himeko, he realized then, was dangerous.
Dangerously perceptive. Dangerously kind.
Thancred had caught himself wishing for the time to get to know her better. Not to bed her, as some would accuse him of, although that would hardly be a hardship, but because, for a moment during that quiet morning, he caught a glimpse of her broken edges, of the ghosts that haunted her. And they looked a lot like what he saw in the mirror.
Sentimental drivel, Lahabrea had sneered. Worthless.
Thancred hadn’t been able to say anything then, thoughts scattered to the winds. Not that he would’ve, if he could. Why give his kidnapper (killer? He wasn’t going to survive this, was he?) any more ammunition?
If Lahabrea wanted to believe Himeko was like any of the thousands of previous Warriors he had defeated, who was Thancred to disabuse him of the notion? If the ascian was so far removed from mortals and morals to not see the writing on the wall for the death knell it was… why would Thancred warn him?
The last time Thancred became aware, he still was a passenger in his own body; still disconnected, but present in a way he hadn’t been in months, the chains dragging him down into his little cage were no more. Lahabrea remained in control, presence too entrenched to be easily shaken, but he was struggling. He was visibly struggling.
Thancred couldn’t direct his head, but he didn’t need to. Wherever they were, this place was toast. Everything, and he meant everything, was on fire, burning or burned. And in front of them was a supernova in human form. Someone Thancred recognized, to his own surprise.
The red armor was new, too mechanical to be anything made by eorzean hands. Maybe Allagan? Same with the broken greatsword held in her hands. The soft pale fur that covered her body glimmered like moonlight and her hair was like what he imagined lava would look like as hair, the bright red mixed with glowing orange. Every so often, tongues of fire would lick the air in an inhuman imitation of how hair would normally behave.
Somehow the eyes were the worst part. Molten gold, ringed with red and pupils like a flame that threatened to consume everything in its path. Thancred struggled to find any trace of Himeko in that inhuman gaze.
Right now, he realized, they were the obstacle in her path. Would she stop at them? The part of him that met Himeko when he was himself wanted to say yes, of course; but the bigger part of him, the animal part of him, the instincts and drive to survive, told him that the Himeko in front of them, if it even was Himeko, was a being that far surpassed the limits of humanity. If Thancred knew anything about god-like beings, it is that you killed them, before they kill you.
In the back of his mind, Thancred had known, almost from day one, that Himeko was strong. Because only people truly strong walked around mindful of every step and every touch, because they knew bones broke easily and flesh split with even less effort.
He hadn’t known she was absurdly powerful.
“What are you?” Lahabrea spoke almost in a hushed voice, completely at odds with his usual tone.
Then again, usually the mortals he killed weren’t consumed in a ball of fire and turned into an abomination that exuded an energy so vile it made his borrowed skin crawl.
“Your worst nightmare,” Himeko? hissed in a voice that resonated strangely. “And I’m taking back what’s mine.”

Regarding last reblog, I'm sometimes @ myself like: if you're some kind of gender weird, how come, when given the opportunity to create your own character in video games or tabletop games, you've nearly 100% been a woman?
Well. In part, I think it's that a lot of games offer the ability to play a masculine role. Fairly few offer the chance to play a woman and fewer as one I really relate to.
And also, when it comes to FFXIV.... I could spill a lot of ink here that would not be very interesting, or I could sum it kind of stupidly as: trying to play as femme miqote made me feel dysphoric. It's partially the height, but it's mostly the particularl brand of femininity in the animations. Like, spunky, feisty, playful, energetic, etc etc. I think I would have a similar problem playing femme au ra or viera. I cannot relate to someone this soft and pretty and conventionally attractive and if au ra, small. Not for the hundreds of hours this game asks of me, anyway.
(ironically (?) I can get in a lalafell headspace, especially if I dream up some kinda gothic lolita adjacent persona)

Finally got my brain together enough to get a handle on a possible new AU-based character for Lia’s main canon (Rewrite the Stars and Never Enough): Leocadia Hawkins.
An Etherial... and Lia’s half-sister, Leocadia is curious about all the galaxies outside of her home, and even more curious about the rest of her family - the Hawkins family, legendary heroes.
Legendary heroes... who don’t know about her at all.
So this family got more complicated. Nothing they can’t handle. Right?
