One of my biggest Stranger Things fandom pet peeves is when people call El, El Byers. As if her father "dies" and then she starts going by her adoptive family's name? It's not even like they officially adopted her. How disrespectful to her relationship with Hopper to try and erase that part of her identity by calling her El Byers. She's El Hopper and she always will be. She may change her name to Wheeler when she gets married but at that point it will be legally changed 😁

The note shows up in Eddie's mailbox cubby on Valentine's Day.
It's nothing fancy, loopy cursive handwriting on lined paper:
"I know this is probably silly but I can't go another day without saying it, and today seems appropriate for this kind of confession. Seeing you in the morning is the best part of my day. You're so gorgeous it leaves me breathless. I hope you don't mind if I don't leave my name. Just wanted you to know that you're beautiful."
His eyes fill with tears that he blinks back, a goofy smile stretching his mouth wide.
"You good there, Munson?" Robin Buckley asks.
"Oh, yup, yeah, all good." He laughs. "Just got one of those 'you're my favorite teacher Mr. Munson!' notes."
He squeezes the letter to his chest before slipping it in his pocket.
---
The worst thing about Eddie's new job is that someway, somehow, Steve-fucking-Harrington works here too. PE teacher, JV basketball coach, of-fucking-course. Once a douchebag jock, always a douchebag jock. What makes it all worse is that he's still the prettiest guy Eddie's ever seen.
---
The first week of March, there's a commotion in the hallway that has him rushing out of his room, ready to breakup a fight. He finds Harrington already there, holding Dustin Henderson and Will Byers by their shoulders. Troy Walsh and James Dante stand across from them, wearing matching snarls.
Of course Harrington is picking on little nerd kids; he knew it. But before he steps forwards to break it up, Steve speaks, voice low and angry. "You want to tell me what happened here, Troy?"
"Byers tripped. He really should watch where he's going," Troy says. James laughs.
Steve's glare goes even more icy, more disdainful (it's so fucking hot, Eddie hates it). "You want to take that again? And try being honest this time, or you're suspend from the team."
Troy splutters for long enough that Eddie finally notices Will's stricken face, the sketchpad and snapped colored pencils littering the linoleum.
"I saw you take those things from Will, and unfortunately, I'll have to call your parents and you will be responsible for purchasing a new sketchbook and pencils. You're also benched for the next four games."
The boys shout, but when Steve raises a hand they quiet immediately. "You want to complain more, or do you want it to be five games?"
"No, sir," they answer before scampering off.
Harrington faces Dustin and Will. "You boys okay?" he asks them.
"We're good, Mr. H," Dustin answers.
"Glad to hear it." Steve begins collecting Will's ruined belongings, stops to study one of the drawings.
"This is really good, Will."
Will flushes. "Thanks. It's my character for dnd,"
"Dnd? That's that game that El and Max are always talking about? With the character sheets and the dice?"
"Yeah!" says Dustin. "You know it?"
Steve's smile is a little bashful, and it tugs at Eddie's heart in a way he has to ignore. "Not much. Just from what the girls have said. You want to tell me about it?"
"Really?" Their eyes light up.
"Really. You can stop by the gym during lunch. Only if you want to, though."
"Cool," says Dustin.
He pats them both on the shoulder, and they hurry away, leaving Steve and Eddie suddenly alone.
Eddie should head back to his class, hasn't been needed in this situation at all, really, but before he can disappear, Steve spots him and his eyes widen.
"You need something, Munson?" Steve's cheeks go a faint pink.
He shakes his head, feels wrong-footed. "Uh, that was really cool what you did just there."
"They're really good kids," Steve says. "I know them a little. Used to babysit El Hopper." He slides his hands into the pockets of his khakis and, seriously, fuck Harrington for looking like that in a pair of Dockers.
"Babysitter, Harrington? Never thought I'd see the day. Or that you'd be the one defending a bunch of nerds," Eddie says. He means it teasing, but Steve's face warps into a frown.
"Y--yeah, I guess. I mean. I'm trying not to be that guy anymore, and Robin's really helped--"
"Shit, man, I'm sorry. That's not what I meant, at all--"
"--I feel terrible about all that shit I pulled back in school. That King Steve stuff? I was awful and you didn't deserve--"
"Steve!" Eddie cuts him off. "I forgive you. For everything." He looks down at his shoes. "For all I didn't want to believe it, you really have changed."
They're both pink faced now, avoiding each other's eyes. "Thanks," Steve says. "I should get going, but--for the future-- I really wouldn't mind--um--trying to be friends."
The grin that passes across Eddie's face is huge. "Yeah, Harrington, I'd like that."
Eddie has to run to make it to his classroom on time. He passes Dustin and Will and the rest of their gaggle of friends, rushing them along, but forgets all about it as he steps in front of his third period juniors.
---
He and Steve are...friendly now. They chat, they joke, they share smiles that have Eddie's heart beating too fast even though it's not like that. Turns out Steve is kind and funny (a little bit of a bitch too, but in a way that ties Eddie's stomach in knots), and a hell of a teacher.
---
His freshman are in small groups, peer-reviewing an essays, when Max Mayfield catches his eye. She's one of his favorite students and absolute trouble.
"What's up, Mayfield." He asks.
"Are you friends with Mr. Harrington?" She asks.
He chuckles. "Sure, Max, we're friendly enough. Why?"
She narrows her eyes, like she knows he's not being totally honest. "Oh, nothing. He just talks about you all the time."
He's blushing horribly and Max, and all of her friends, smirk up at him. "He does?" He chokes out.
"Mmhmm," Lucas Sinclair says. "Says he thinks you're really cool."
"Definitely one of the best teachers here," Mike Wheeler adds.
Eddie rolls his eyes. "Okay, very funny, guys. How're your essays going?"
They answer, but before Eddie goes to help another group, Will says, "he really does like you, Mr. Munson. A lot."
El nods earnestly up at him. "It is true," she says. "I know him."
"Thanks, kids. I'll keep that in mind." He gives them a smile, tries not to let their words get to him. When he reaches the next group, though, he notices his hands are shaking.
---
Gifts start turning up in Eddie's cubby. It starts with a bag of oatmeal chocolate chip cookies from his favorite bakery. There's a small note that says "from your secret admirer," on the packaging. Every two weeks or so, something new shows up in his little mailbox; a woven friendship bracelet, a yellow rose, Hershey kisses, a delicately painted dnd figure that gives Eddie a small crisis because it's his own bard character, an Iron Maiden cassette, a bag of dice that almost brings him to genuine tears.
Eventually, he gets another note. This one is typed and reads: "I would love to have coffee with you 11am this Saturday at the Cafe on Main Street."
---
He walks into the cafe at 10:50am, wearing his favorite pair of ripped black jeans and a burgundy button-down, his hair pulled into a loose bun. He doesn't recognize anyone there.
Eddie gets in line, studies the menu, and the little bell above the door rings. He whips towards the sound to find none other than Steve Harrington in little wire rim glasses, a butter colored sweater, and jeans the man must have painted on, Jesus Christ. Honestly, the whole thing is enough to give Eddie a coronary (and to, embarrassingly, chub up in his own tight jeans).
"Steve?" He asks. He's overwhelmed with the (stupid, stupid) hope that it's been Harrington all along. "What are you doing here?"
"Henderson asked me to meet him. He around?"
"Uh, no?" Eddie feels heat creeping up his throat.
Steve shakes his head, as though he expected as much. "You alone? We could grab drink."
"I can't believe this." Eddie hides his face in his hands, knows it's gone horrifyingly crimson.
"What's wrong?"
"My secret admirer told me to be here now, so we could meet," Eddie's misery slices through his words. "I'm such an idiot."
"I--your--what?" Steve stammers.
He gathers himself enough to look Steve in his hazel eyes and ask, "I'm assuming it wasn't you leaving notes and gifts for me at work?"
And he expects Steve to say no. To laugh and ask why he'd ever do something like that, but instead, instead he flushes a deep red. "O-only one note."
"What?"
"I, uh," Steve clears his throat. "I left you a note. On Valentine's Day. I--we weren't friends yet, and I wanted you to know how much I liked you. It's --uh--it's pretty silly, huh? Robin's--"
"Steve," Eddie interrupts. He's going to tell Steve that he reads the note often enough that he has parts memorized; that it's the kindest thing anyone has done for him, but what he says instead is, "Dustin Henderson told you to meet him here at 11?"
"Yeah. Said he had something to show me."
Eddie remembers running into Will and Dustin and their friends that day in the hall, the weird conversation in class, the dice and the miniature. Something must click for Steve at the same time because his mouth drops, blush getting somehow deeper.
"Oh my god. Henderson! I'm gonna kill him. They figured out I had a crush on you."
"They WHAT?" Eddie says, loud enough that several looks are aimed their way.
"I'm so, so sorry, Eddie. Holy shit, this is so humiliating. You have to believe me, I had no idea they were doing this. God, I'm really starting to think it is possible to die from embarrassment."
"You have a crush on me," Eddie says instead of any of the dozens of helpful things he could say.
"Um. Yes?"
Eddie takes a deep breath, straightens his spine, and asks, "You wanna have coffee with me?"
"I'd really like that." Steve's return smile is so beautiful, it makes Eddie weak.
---
Eddie Munson is making out with Steve Harrington in the backseat of Steve's BMW. He and Steve spent the day together. They've kissed for so long that the sun has set, both of their lips are swollen, their skin red from stubble, and Eddie is nowhere near ready for the night to end.
Steve breaks away, gently pulling their mouths apart, but arms still tight around Eddie. "Hey, what kind of gifts were they giving you anyway? The kids?"
"Oh," Eddie blushes. "Uh, cookies, a dnd mini, lots of candy, a set of dice."
"Oh my god," Steve says, he pulls a little more away. "Oh my god, I'm going to kill her, Jesus Christ."
"Who are are you killing, sweetheart?"
Steve groans. "Robin. She was helping them. We found a set of dice at this little bookstore and she told me to get them for you, and--" he breaks off with a helpless, frustrated noise.
Eddie doesn't mean to, but he starts to giggle.
"It's not funny!" Steve says.
That only makes Eddie laugh harder. "Your best friend," he squeaks. "And a group of literal children set us up. That's hilarious, Harrington."
Steve's mouth drops and for a second Eddie thinks he'll be upset, but then he's giggling too, his whole face crumpling into it.
Steve pulls Eddie close once the laughter subsides, his eyes trained on Eddie's lips.
"We could pretend we didn't get together," Eddie manages to say.
"What, like, make them think they failed?"
"Yeah. We could tell them I got stood up, but you and I hung out. Had a bro day."
Steve giggles again, and it's the best sound Eddie's ever heard. "I'm absolutely on board with this plan, but you should definitely kiss me some more."
"Oh, yeah?" Eddie asks, his voice low. "And what'll I get out of it?"
"Why don't you get over here and see."
As if Eddie could turn down an invite that enticing. He slides a hand behind Steve's head, drawing him in, and they're kissing like they never stopped. It only been a few hours, but Eddie knows--without a doubt--he's already head over heels.

Steve is powered AU.
It's after Vecna and the Upside Down collapsing on itself before anyone finds out.
When Steve was seven, his mother had a psychotic break, saying that Steve was a changeling and tried to drown him the large bath tub in his parents' bathroom.
It was during this time she was admitted to Pennhurst.
They're cleaning up the Harrington Estate when his mother comes home and just starts screaming about the mess. Steve finally gets her calm down and tells Eddie that she didn't always used to be that way, she used to be a sweet and loving mother.
That's when Stella Harrington comes screaming back in that she didn't change. He did. He was the imposter. She knows her son and this creature before her isn't him.
But she won't explain how she knows.
Then a couple days later Nancy was talking to Robin about how someone should go back to Pennhurst to tell Victor Creel, that his son survived and is the cause of the all the destruction.
Robin is against it, because his mind was already shattered and that might destroy it. Nancy thinks he would want to know that he wasn't crazy.
When the name finally pinged in Steve's head. When they were trying to figure out who Vecna was, the name kept ringing a bell in his head. And just then it hit him.
His mother had been admitted there when he was younger.
But he keeps it to himself, because the last person he wants to know his mother was/is crazy is Nancy.
So he calls up the Hospital and requests her file and finds out that someone else recently accessed her file. Her doctor, Martin Brenner, had called just two weeks before the events that would lead to his death.
The receptionist asks if the address in Reno, Nevada is still good.
Steve's blood turns to ice in his veins.
Holy shit.
He corrects the address to Hawkins, Indiana and she brightens. Tells him that it's nice she's home again.
Steve needs to talk to El and he needs to do it away from Hopper. Because Hopper can't know about this. No one can.
Only Eddie starts noticing how withdrawn and twitchy Steve has become lately and manages to show up at the house when Steve gets his mother's medical files.
They learn that only reason Stella survived the Nina Project massacre was because she was on her to another facility for testing.
When Steve was seven his powers manifested so strongly, that his mother who was an empath, tried to suppress it so that Dr. Brenner wouldn't get his hands on Steve and it broke her mind. But Dr. Brenner didn't want Steve. Incorrectly assuming that she had succeeded, he wanted to harness her ability to break other's powers. Because if she could break Steve's, maybe she could break Henry's.
It was that research that led the device that controlled Henry's powers.
But Dr. Brenner realized that Stella didn't suppress Steve's powers. Steve did.
But his exposure to the Upside Down had eroded the block and that's why Steve was able to sense what was wrong with Nancy, knew that Max was in trouble.
He could sense it.
Dr. Owens tries to be respectful when asking Steve if they could run tests on him.
Everyone shouts NO at the same time.
But now everyone knows that Steve is powered, too, and El helps him learn to control it and take the break off completely. The first time they tried Steve got so overwhelmed with Eddie's love and affection for him that he passed out.
They were both pretty embarrassed that that was the way they got together. But Eddie liked to joke that his charm literally knocked Steve over.
Over the years it gets more fine-tuned. He knows Eddie is going propose before he does.
Knows when Max is pregnant with her first. Lucas couldn't keep his emotions down for shit.
Knows when Mike and El finally break up and realize they're better as friends. Their emotions are very angry for awhile before they mellow out.
Knows about Will and Mike's first kiss. Will is practically bursting with it.

So... I lied about getting a full fix-it to This → Part 1. Y'all get parts focusing on different characters for now as Hop traverses his guilt trip. I won't say it gets worse before it gets better but... kinda in places? I promise it's a happy ending though!!
What do you want from me I'm stressed and depressed and I like making my blorbos suffer (a.k.a projecting my trauma instead of doing the healthy shit my shrink tells me to)
You've been warned... But I do hope you like it.
So here we have Part 2 (Pride and Prejudices: Joyce Edition)
He goes to Joyce about it first. Thinks about her gentle herding of the trio that has become the Hopper-Byers brood. Thinks about how she put everything he was feeling about Mike and El and their giggling and the fucking door into words that kept him from looking like an imbecile (if he'd have ever used them instead of fucking it up 'winging it'). Thinks about the way her voice stays soft and kind of quiet even when she's spitting in his face about listening to her (and every time she's been right) and how that's translated to talking down government goons and wrangling the army of children that seems to get bigger each time they have to fight interdimensional terrors. So he goes to Joyce about what Murray said, the noise Steve made with That Look in his eyes and his bandages peeking out from under a shirt that looks like one of the Henleys he's been missing since coming 'back from the dead' and they dug out his clothes from storage. (El wouldn't let her throw anything out, not until she was ready to say goodbye. Thank whatever god[s] there may be she never needed to)
He doesn't expect Joyce to make a face like he suggested inviting Owens to family dinner. He doesn't expect the scoff and eye roll as her shoulders tense and her hands flex at her sides like she's about to let loose her (honestly really attractive) righteous fury. About the Harrington kid.
Maybe he should have asked when the kids weren't home. Before El quietly told them the bullying wasn't as bad as it was in California but some people still made fun of how she spoke and how all of her friends were boys (and just as quietly asked they not do anything. Asked that they let her and The Party handle it until they couldn't). Before Will came home sulking about something idiotic Mike said or did or something the kid missed (though lately the latest Wheeler mistake is followed by bashful mention of the Emerson kid doing something specifically to make Will feel better in the moment). Before Jonathan came home from 'job hunting' or 'volunteering at the school's relief center' reeking of weed and his long-haired friend in tow (less than usual but still enough to make Joyce feel guilty for missing it for so long, for making the boy grow up so fast that he spends his days out of his mind instead of the weekend bender like when they were kids). Before The Party had come by with what homework the school was still giving out and talking over each other about all the latest small-town gossip a teenager can get their hands on (Eddie's name has been cleared but he's still laid up at the hospital. Susan Mayfield has been noticeably absent according to every nosy housewife in Hawkins considering her daughter is in a coma. The Hagans, Carvers, Perkins and a handful of other 'well to do' families have skipped town taking most of the sports population with them. Steve has been letting people displaced by the damage crash at the Harrington mansion. Steve has kept up hours at Family Video somehow and is a regular volunteer at the various relief centers in town. Steve has been giving all of them rides and may have told Dustin he's thinking of trading in the Beemer for a bigger vehicle for all the kids and people he chauffeurs about. Steve keeps a room empty and waiting for when Max wakes up before her mother makes an appearance. Steve. Steve. Steve.)
He doesn't expect the way she spits his name like she's talking about Dick and Margaret under the bleachers over a smoke before the yard teacher catches them. The rant about bullies and broken cameras and trashed kitchens and dead monsters in her fridge. The crack in her voice when she crosses her arms to stop their shaking as she lays sin upon sin at this boy's feet.
And maybe before that would have been enough.
He doesn't expect the stone in his stomach or the burning in his chest as he looks the woman he loves in the eye and says "So I guess we should tell Nancy to break up with Jonathan before he pulls a Lonnie, huh?" It's a low blow. He knows from the hurt anger on her face and on the purse of her lips. He knows that's why he said it. "That kid is lucky to be alive let alone walking and have we ever even thanked him for keeping the fucking kids alive each time they pull their dumb shit when the world goes to hell? Does that sound like anything his folks would have ever done for us? Hell for their own fucking kid they practically signed over to ME of all people?"
He's shaking now too and Joyce has her hands fluttering between them like she wants to reach out. To touch, comfort. Pull him close and tell him to take a breath.
"He called me 'His Hop', Joyce" He barely has enough breath on him to squeeze the words past his tight throat. "Called me His Hop and watched Ellie and the kids when I just couldn't and you were at work. I don't think I've seen his folks in town since the mall was opened and all the donors had that big party. Don't think I've spoken to them since '83 and they made me the kid's guardian when they aren't around cause they didn't want to fly down for a government sized concussion."
By now he knows El and Will are peeking around the corner, their eyes wide and worried. Jonathan has his door cracked and Angus (is that the hippie's name? He can't remember) is whispering something about heavy auras. Joyce is staring somewhere off in the distance, wringing her hands and biting her lips like she's facing an interdimensional portal shaped problem.
"The kids are planning to have one of their games in a few days." Her voice is brittle in a way he's not used to anymore. Not since she pulled her youngest out of hell and faced down a demon clawing through her walls. "He always drives them over and- and disappears until they need to head home. I can make sure he stays for dinner. Like the rest of the kids. I know Claudia has been having him over so I- I can get some recipes from her that he likes."
Something in his shoulders shakes loose and he reaches out to pull her practically shaking from into his chest.
"I don't know what to say to him Hop. He's not Mike and he's not like either of my boys. In my head he's just always been..."
"Dick and Margaret's brat." He sighs out and rests his cheek on the top of her head as she nods and presses herself in closer.
He's aware of eyes on them. Confused and worried and judgemental and he'll pay that piper next. These kids taught him how to be a dad again once, they can do it again, right?

"I feel him." El insists. "Alive."
She hasn't said his name since Will first raised them all over the walkie, but every person in the room knows who she means.
Not that Steve can say his name either.
"But we watched him die." Nancy says gently, before Dustin properly loses it from where he sits in the corner. "Owen's even sent someone back through to check."
"Yes." El agrees, but it's clear she's frustrated. "He died here. But he's not alive here, he's alive over there."
"In the Upside Down?" Steve asks, and pretends his voice isn't cracking with desperation and barely concealed hope.
"No!" El snaps, before taking a deep breath and collecting herself to try again. "Through the other gate."
"Okay." Hopper cuts in, hands waving in some kind of "stay calm" gesture. "El, honey, I think we're all still hung up about the other gate." He pauses, before adding. "And how Creel dying opened it."
El gives him a thousand yard stare.
"I'm getting the crayons." Joyce sighs as she stands up. In a mutter she continues, "Should have gotten them to begin with."
Silently, Steve agrees.
xXx Eddie xXx
It goes like this.
A bat breaks through the side of the trailer. It swoops low, teeth rattling, but it doesn't attack.
It emits an odd, echoing screech, before  flying through the gate, to the Rightside-Up.
"Shit." Dustin curses wildly. "Shit, they're gonna try and invade!"
"I thought they were guarding the gate!" Eddie protests, as that echoing scream returns tenfold, coming from the mouths of too many demobats. “If they wanted to invade wouldn’t they have done that already!?”
"No, because Vecna was focused on opening more gates! This must be his plan--to open enough gates to push an army through. We have to lead them away!"
"Dustin-!" Eddie calls out desperately, but finds himself overwhelmed by bats as more and more break through.
He fights through them, trying to get to Dustin, trying to listen to what the kid’s screaming.
He can’t hear him.
Not over all the screeching, the beating bat wings and the thudding noises as they smack at his head. Their teeth snap, tearing into every piece of him they can reach.
Eddie doesn’t know how long he’s been surrounded, but he hears the trailer door bang open--and shut.
"Dustin!" He screams this time, voice as loud as he can make it.
The kid’s faster than he is.
He’d planned this--or at least, had thought about it long enough to get himself a solid head start, leaving Eddie scrambling after.
Fighting through the torrents of bats. Abandoning the gate because Hawkins can burn for all he cares--but there are people who don't deserve to go down with it.
People like Henderson, who have bright futures ahead of them.
Eddie tears his way towards Dustin, unthinking, just running.
‘Stupid, stupid, stupid-!’ He thinks, but not at Dustin.
At himself, because he knows the kid. Knows what to expect from how he acts in games.
Steve even called it--and Eddie’s not stupid enough to think he was talking to both of them when he warned them about not being a hero. He was included purely because Dustin would fuss otherwise and they were short on time.
Dustin’s on the ground when Eddie finds him, and he whips his spear at the few dozen bats that attack him, their bodies circling, teeth biting.
He gets in two good hits before shit hits the fan.
To his right something explodes, flames high and reaching, a thunderous boom whipping out so loud that Eddie's ears ring.
A shockwave nearly takes him off his feet, bandana pulled from his head and freeing his hair.
Eddie crashes on the ground next to Dustin.
Sees all the blood and doesn't know what to do.
"Come on man." Eddie pleads. "Come on!"
He doesn't get an answer.
It goes like this.
Vecna’s dead.
The blast that killed him was from some kind of explosion that took out all of Creel House.
It fireballed skyward, and the Upside Down rapidly began doing….something, seconds after.
Returning, Eddie decides, to whatever it was before the asshole got thrown in here.
Or dying, maybe.
(This is easier to think about than the fact that no one could have survived that blast. That there's a black hole Eddie can see, and it has to wrap miles and miles around the Creel House because he's still near his trailer.
It the trees down the stupid hill didn't make it then Robin, and Nancy, and Steve--
He stops. Shakes his head.
If Eddie thinks about it, it will make it real.
He can't let it be real.),
The monsters all fall as one, dropping to the ground like puppets with cut strings.
Eddie had been pummeled by a few demobat bodies before he could get clear, though given how some still occasionally twitch and hop around weakly after, Vecna's death doesn't necessarily equal their own.
Madly, he crushes a few beneath his boots.
Knows that won't bring his friends back.
Stomps on a few more because he can't do anything about that, and he can't cry any harder.
It goes like this.
Eddie gets back topside to find Vecna's revenge in action.
It's an act worthy of a mad god, not that Eddie would ever give him such a title.
Hawkins wasn't split. It was consumed, with large portions falling deep into the earth that opened under it. Smoke chokes half the town from an outburst of fires, while downed trees and electrical lines make walking a chore.
The road is a cracked and pitted mess, littered with holes large enough to swallow entire cars.
Passage is nigh impossible by car, and downright dangerous by foot.
It makes Eddie want to sink to his knees in despair.
There were still people around, that first day.
There were still people around the second and fifth days too.
But then the monsters appear.
They're not the demobats, or demodogs or even the demogorgons that Eddie was told of.
They're something--else.
Mutated and mutating, taking on appearances that reflect both the Upside Down and the Right-Side Up (a term coined by one of the freshmen--Eddie can't recall which.)
Actual flowers, great purple and orange looking blooms sprout teeth and attack. Vines stick out of arcade cabinets, carting them around like a hermit crabs shell.
Some people breathe the falling little pieces of ash and suddenly aren't people anymore.
(It was Erica, who had coined the term. The Right-Side Up.
Erica who was also deceased, because the fucking explosion didn't just take out the Upside Down version of the Creel house, but the real one too.
Which meant Max and Lucas and Erica…
But Eddie's not thinking about that.)
It goes like this.
Wayne's gone.
He'd been at the plant when the Earth had swallowed it, his first day back to work because he'd used all his PTO trying to find Eddie.
The coworker who watched it happen makes sure to tell Eddie his uncle insisted he was innocent. That the old man never stopped looking.
Likewise, the trailer is gone.
It fell barely a day after Eddie had climbed out of it, one half eaten while the other teetered dangerously on the edge.
There's cops at the borders of the city.
They’re been commandeered by the military and the feds both, and people in heavy gear prowl around like guard dogs just waiting to be let off leash.
Helicopters fill the air, always circling and searching. Units of men and women begin parading around with guns as they escort tanks and other battle equipment through the streets.
They're looking for something besides the monsters, and they're happy to cut the phone lines and police the survivors to find it.
No one's allowed in--or out.
Eddie tries to escape the first few days, after he realizes everyone who knew the truth is gone.
Thinks maybe he can get to the Byers, and that super powered girl out in California, but keeps getting cut off.
Twice they've nearly caught him, which means twice Eddie has been forced to come to terms with the fact that he's one of the things they're after.
They know him by name.
They know he was involved in Creel's takedown.
Eddie"s not just being hunted by the town now.
He’s being hunted by the United States as a whole.
It goes like this.
Eddie doesn't want to die.
Can't bring himself to take his own life, forever too much of a coward.
So he berates himself while he hides.
Wonders what the fuck his plan is here.
Focuses on surviving, stealing food, sleeping in people he loves houses and hoping maybe some of them made it out.
(Given how Gareth's and Jeff's places are both untouched, he doesn't think they did.)
He’s never prayed before but now he’s praying to every deity he can think of. Hoping, wishing, that if he can’t get out alive, he at least goes down quickly.
It goes like this.
Steve Harrington walks out of the woods with a nailbat in his hands, like a blood soaked fever dream.
Eddie doesn't care.
He hugs him so hard his own ribs hurt and the crazy thing is Steve hugs him back even harder.
"You're alive." Eddie sobs, face buried in Steve's shoulder.,"You're alive, you're alive…"
Steve grips him for a moment before whispering back; "And so are you."
He pulls away and Eddie struggles against him, not ready to let go, fingers grasping at his shirt.
Steve strokes his hair, his stupid tangled, gross hair and Eddie looks at him, desperately needing the contact to prove that Steve is real.
That he’s here.
"I need you to listen--I'm not your Steve." Steve says, and Eddie’s so desperate for contact that the words don’t register for a moment.
Not that they make sense when they do.
"What?" Eddie asks.
"There’s a--okay.” Steve sighs, before saying; “I am going to absolutely blow the explanation, but I need you to trust me.”
“I do.” Eddie says, even as Steve fulfills his own prophecy, and gives a completely nonsensical explanation.
At the end of it, Eddie can’t bring himself to care.
As long as he has Steve back--even if it’s not technically his Steve, Eddie will follow him wherever he goes.

TRANSCRIPTION:
You probably have some sort of straight on with Joyce…we're seeing them kinda parading and then we'll probably have some rakes, you know? Yeah. But then we need to get to Will, though. Well, what, isn't it Joyce ???? Well, we'll start from Eleven and then, cause Eleven says ''There's not enough.''. Oh she says ''There's not enough.'' either ''too many'' what if we just pull back like, Eleven says '' There's too many'' and then we land on Will and he's looking nervous… and then we could zero-in on him like that… is that weird to pull and then move in. I don't think so.

List of byler-gates
I’m just bored, but read it anyways, it’s fun
there sooo many of them, and i’m still pretty lazy so this isn’t perfect, but just let’s start
Mikhailgate
This is practically anti byler theory, but nvm
So, Dimitri has a son named Mikhail, which is russian version of name Michael, Mike
So, people were just saying that instead of Mike, Will will end up with Mikhail(who’s technically Mike bc of the name, yk)
I think everyone was just joking, oh, good ol’ times
and willloveinterestgate is the same
Lettergate/Pocketgate
These theories aren’t the same one, but it’s basically the same concept, ig
The basic thing is, that Mike wrote a letter to Will(singed Love, Mike)
In pocketgate, Mike has the letter saved in his triangle pocket, bc in st, characters many times has letters, that were important to them, in their left pocket(above the heart), for example Hopper and El(Hopper’s heart-to-heart), Jonathan(acceptance letter to college) etc.
And he would just take it out in the middle of confession or sth
+the triangle always points to Will like an arrow
Lettergate is just basically the same, ok, idk how to describe it differently
Twelvegate
Not exactly a byler, but theory, that Will was number twelve in HNL, and that he’s El’s actual twin
And from that, there’s theory that Will has powers, but wasn’t n. 012
Okay, back to byler
This is same as rainbowgate i think
Flickergate
This theory is very lovely! after Will tells Mike that rolled seven in s1, the light behind them flickers
and since ud is frozen on nov6 83, when you signal sth from ud, it should appear at nov6 83-s1
this connects to electricgate(i dunno if sth like this exist, but just keep reading), the electricity~are friends electric~will possibly having electric powers
so mike and will could go together in s5 to ud on a mission or sth, and kiss in wheelers garage, and that would make the light flicker(i’m so good at explaining things, right😐)
will and mike going to ud together is predicted by mike and will sitting on upside down couch in last ep. of s4
Birthdaygate/Memorygate
Soo, remember how they forgot Will’s birthday? what if all wills memories, that people reminded him of in the shed are gone? his birthday, building castle byers, meeting mike… and that’s why mike says that his life started the day he found her, bc he doesn’t remember meeting Will
for me, it’s really weird, they couldn’t just forget Will’s birthday, no, this ain’t it
Kiss at lovers lake
I’m not sure if this has a different name, but it’s that their first kiss will be near lovers lake
evidence: patrick(the kid who died at lovers lake), had a nickname “berlin wall” or sth(we saw this in the school newspaper), and it was devided to four, same as hawkins
and song heroes is abt couple who lived at different sides of berlin wall, and idk, it just connects, okay?
when will painted the map of hawkins while he was possessed, mike was holding blue and yellow meter
Eightfifteengate
Context: will left the wheelers at 8:15 in s1
in s1e1, time mark 8:15 is literally the shot where will disappears in the shead
i think there’s a season 2 soundtrack called eight fifteen
tw: time fuckery: while will was recording on halloween night, the time says 8:04 while he’s recording mike saying “did you agreed with this?”, but when joyce rewatches it, it show 8:15(byler)
“ it’s 8:15, you’re late”
btw, clocks and watches from hiroshima are stuck at 8:15
aaanywaaay, there’s just too much 8:15 things, aaah(this is just a few)
what it has to do with byler?
well, 15-8=….(wait for it)….seven. a byler number. it was a seven!
also, “the first lie”, when murray says this to jancy, the time mark is… guess what, 8:15
there’s this theory with the songs “the first lie” and “the first i love you”, and it just connects
Motelgate
theory, that after mike’s “love” confession to el, they went to a motel for sleep, and mike and will had to share a bed, and we could possibly see flashbacks of it in s5, and it would kinda explain the two day skip
Colorgate
blue and yellow meet in the west, i’m sure you know this one, and there’s sooo many evidence in this
mattduffersbasementgate
It’s too late for this to be true, but the duffers are(/were) holding every cast member that ships byler in their basement, lol
bloopergate
Bloopers from byler scenes, basically, for example “not when i was the spy, oh fuck”, basically Finn and Noah being all giggly, i guess
bloopergate implies to every blooper, but why not to mention it
curtaingate
Sth like, that when there’s some fight happening between characters, if curtains are open, it means they’re open with their feeling and opposite
Example: milkvan make out scene-closed, but you don’t love me fight-opened
Bonus: „ but they like the curtain. people like us are just trying to look behind the curtain”(my very bad quotation of murray, yk what i mean)
Also, Suzie had blue and yellow curtains, and they were opened
And, “and i love her and i can’t lose her again”? Also curtains closed, like wtf, this fandom is crazy
piggybackgate
El knows abt Mike and Will. she saw how they act around each other, she’ve heard will saying “you’re the heart” to mike, saw that mike has Will’s painting now
New Coke Theory
basically, old coca colla is mileven, new coke is byler. it contains some of the old ingredients(mike), and new ones too(will). not everyone likes(bc its gay ship). and when you look at scenes with can of new coke, it’s many times symbolizing byler vs. milkvan
one of my favorite new coke theory examples is this: in s3, after el gets attacked by the flesh monster, she tries to crash a can(but she doesn’t have her powers, so she can’t). this is a can of new coke(byler) and she can’t crush that/destroy it. and in this scene, we get a flashback to the lab, where she crushes aka destroys regular coke(mileven)
phonegate
mike and will not calling each other, bc of joyce’s telemarketer job(he won’t stop whining abt it)
————
i miss all these little silly theories abt literally everything
i hope the byler tag will be like this once again
maybe we could start naming our new theories “gate”s again
for example: heartfeltgat, strangerwritersgate, snowkissgate or sth
anyway, byee

Angst fic 💛💙
I'm so evil for writing this 🤕
Tumblr media
(Not my art 😋)
Jump
Byler angst, Mile wheeler angst, sadfic
*trigger warning! Suicide, depression, sad things :(
Info: this is mike's suicide note to Eleven a few days after will dies due to vecna
(This takes place before or during s5)
It's midnight when Mike bikes to Hopper's cabin where Eleven is staying. He leaves a crisp letter on the doorstep, pinned down with a rock so it won't blow away. Then he bikes away into the dark of the night.
Hopper wakes up early, and gets ready for work. He notices a white letter on the porch. He picks it up and reads the name it's addressed to. "Eleven, mail for you!" he hollers, and leaves it on the counter for he to read when she gets up.
Eleven wanders into the kitchen and opens the letter. She would recognize that handwriting anywhere. It was from Mike. Although the two broke up, they were still close friends. She sat down at the table, and began to read it.
"I was only 12 when I saw them pulling Will's "body" out of the quarry. I was only 12 when I attended his funeral, I was only 12 when I jumped off the that same quarry. I was only 12 when I wanted to be dead. The world was a cruel place, and I just wanted to join my best friend. You saved me, Eleven. You saved Will, too. You brought me happiness, and made me feel like a normal teenage boy! I wasn't normal though. I liked someone very much. But by the time I fully accepted myself for liking them, it was too late. I will never see Will in this life again. And to think I could've saved him if only I knew his favorite song. It was Boys Don't Cry, wasn't it? I should have been there for him, but I was too fucking worried that I would only love him more. Liking boys is a sin, I know that. I'm such a disappointment, tell my mom I'm sorry, will you? Will is dead. I'm still in shock, to be honest. From that day when I saw the lab workers pulling his "body" out of the lake, I knew he wouldn't last forever, but I didn't think he would have to go so fast. I know this is hard to hear, but in days, months, years, you'll forget about me. Don't be sad, I want to join him. I want to find him and apologize to him. I want to run up to him, kiss him and never stop, because I know he loves me back. Fuck, I know he does. Or did, I guess. El, I'm going back to the quarry tonight. By the time you find this in the morning, I'll be gone. Tell my mom I love her. Tell Nancy, Dustin, and Lucas that, too. And most of all, I love you Eleven. So don't worry about me, I just want to get to Will.
Love Mike"
Eleven dropped the letter to the ground, a lump in her throat, and a knot in her chest. "No." she whispered. He couldn't be gone. He couldn't be.
The quarry, she thought. That's where he was going. Is it too late? She sped out of the house, and dashed down the street. She didn't have a bike, so running was the only option.
Luckily, the quarry wasn't very far. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Mike's bike parked at the very edge of the cliff.
"No," she whispered again, breathlessly. "No, no, no..." she peered over the edge of the cliff, and scanned to see if there was a body floating in the dark waters.
Nothing.
Suddenly, her eyes landed on a yellow blob. Was that Will's shirt? El didn't waste another second. She grabbed Mike's bike, and peddled down the hill towards the bottom of the quarry at full speed. When she got there, she ran towards the yellow. It was a body on the ground wearing in Will's favorite shirt, but it wasn't Will, it was Mike.
"Mike..." she sobbed, voice hoarse.
"Please," she held his lifeless, cold body in hers, and just sat there.
She just sat there, and cried.
How could he do this?
She wondered if he would actually meet Will in heaven.
She hoped they would spend the rest of eternity together. Happy at last. El wiped some of the dried blood away from his face. He had sharp, jagged rocks lodged into his body everywhere. Hours passed before she squeezed Mike's hand one last time, and then draped her cardigan around him. It was cold out, but Mike's body was cold enough.
"Goodbye, Mike." she choked out, before turning away and biking up the hill.
She hated to be the one to deliver bad news, but it had to be done.
El knocked on Mike's door, and when karen answered, she burst into tears again.

~ / / / * \ \ \ ~
You pushed open the door, letting yourself and Eddie in, flicking on the lamps dotted around. You hung your bag back up, dropped your keys, going to the couch so you could take your shoes off.
Eddie mimicked these actions, hanging his leather jacket up, and sitting down next to you. “Do you anything to drink before?” you asked him. “No, thank you though. I think I should just get it out of the way.”
“Okay.”
“And if it’s okay, could you just let me speak before you ask any questions, you can ask me anything after. Is that alright?”
“That’s fine, anything you need Eds,” you could tell he was uncomfortable, frightened even.
He sighed, unable to begin talking, you took his hand gently. “Take your time Eds, do what you need to do.” He nodded, offering a weak smiled.
“Just before the Summer of 86, something started. It started in my life anyways, it actually began in 83. Anyways, I was a troubled kid, was on my third try of my senior year, barely passing anything.
“I was um … selling drugs so me and Wayne could get by easier. Then one day this girl, a cheerleader, her name was Chrissy, she came up and asked to buy from me. Wanted really strong stuff.
“I didn’t keep it on me, it was at my home. The trailer. So after school we went there … I um …” he paused, taking a deep and shaky breath. You squeezed his hand, rubbing your thumb on the back of it.
“Take your time,” you said softly. He nodded, before taking another breath and continuing. “I went to my room to grab the stuff and when I came back, she, Chrissy I mean … she um … was in some sort of trance.
“I tried to wake her up. Her body was thrown against the ceiling. Something pulled her apart from the inside out. Every bone in her body was broken, her eyes were … I ran. I ran out. I left her there.
“Everyone thought it was me, so I hid.” He continued, explained how Dustin had found him, along with Steve, Robin and Max.
He told you about Vecna, about El. About the two other kids who were killed at the monsters hands, Fred Benson and Patrick McKinney.
He told you about the Upside Down. About the great final battle. Him playing guitar.
“I broke the rope, Dustin was stuck in this world and me in the Upside Down. I ran. I made as much noise as I could. The bats they um … they attacked me.
“Ripped me apart. It’s why I look … it’s why I look the way I do. Vecna was doing the same thing to Max that he did to Chrissy. She barely survived, but she’s a strong kid.
“If it wasn’t for El, neither of us would be here. She killed Vecna, saved Max. She was hurt, but she was alive. Steve, Robs and Nance came back, dragged me to the trailer.
“The doctors saved me. Well El did most of the work. Then … then Hopper came back, vouched for me. It got blamed on someone else, Jason Carver.
“Not everyone believes that. I’m still the town freak. People think that I summoned Satan to destroy the town. I didn’t. I was so scared. Then the earthquakes, the landslides, I was just hoping Wayne made it out.
“I didn’t care if he hated me, I just needed him alive. He’s all I got.”
“All you had,” you corrected, “You’ve got me now.”
“I do? You believe me? You don’t hate me?”
“Yes, yes and no.”
“I was so scared that you’d never want to see me again.”
“I believe you. I’m sorry that all happened to you Eds and I’m sorry people still judge you for it.”
You could now recall the times people looked at him funny, or stopped talking when he entered the room, or when they crossed the road to avoid him.
“I um … I’ll let El and Max tell you their stories, it’s not for me to say anymore. I still don’t really understand myself.”
“Thank you for telling me. You did so well.”
“I-I’m sorry that I had to tell you, but you needed to know. I couldn’t have you see me and not know what happened. That’s if you still want to see me?”
“Eddie you might not think it, but you are the most beautiful person I have ever seen. I want to see you, I want to see all of you if you’ll let me. No matter what you’ll be beautiful to me.”
He pressed his mouth to yours, face damp after what he’d just told you. “We don’t have to do anything, but if you want to stay you can.”
“I’d like the company if that’s okay?” he says, almost shyly.
“That’s more than okay. Hey I’ve got Cherry turnovers downstairs, let’s go get some.”
“What time do you have to be up tomorrow?” he asked.
“Shop opens at 9, but the girls get here at 8. I have to finish up stuff so I’ll be up around 6:30.”
He hummed, nodding. “Okay, well I have to get to work too.”
“Okay, now come on. Let’s go get treats.”
He laughed, as you pulled him with you.
~ / / / * \ \ \ ~
You headed into the kitchen and opened up a box full of the turnovers, handing one to Eddie and taking one off yourself. Both of you stood close together, chomping at the delicious pastry.
You smiled at Eddie before you eyes caught something else, “Oh my god,” you said.
“Hm? What?” he asked.
“That’s why you freaked out about the cake! Oh Eddie I’m so sorry!” you said, remembering the small fondant creatures.
“Hey, it’s okay. It wasn’t your fault. I was just having a rough day with it. Was dealing with my feelings about you too.”
“Oh yeah? How long have you had these feelings?”
“A while.”
“You’re gonna have to give me more than that Munson.”
“No way!”
“Mean,” you pouted.
“What was that?” he asked.
“Nothing,” you smiled.
“What did you say?”
“Nothing.”
“Sweetheart,” he said, lifting your chin so you’d meet his eyes, “What did you call me?”
“Mean,” you spoke, voice almost a whisper.
“Am I? Am I mean?” he asked.
“I-I …”
“Come on, what happened to the mouthy girl here a few minutes ago.”
“I’m sorry.”
He kissed your forehead, “It’s sadly too late for that. I’ll show you how mean I can be.” He attacked your lips, holding you close to him. His lips traveled down to your neck, kissing and biting, just like how you’d been doing to him, hours before.
“E-Eddie we can’t h-here,” you stuttered, breathless at the feeling of his lips on your neck. “It’s n-not hygienic.”
“Not hygienic,” he laughed into your neck, “Okay then Sweetheart, jump for me.”
You did as he asked, he caught your thighs, legs wrapping around his waist. “Would your bed be more hygienic?” he asked.
“That does sound better.”
“Okay baby, whatever you want,” he said, stealing a kiss.
~ / / / * \ \ \ ~
As soon as you made it into the apartment, Eddie was in your room. Dropping you on the bed gently. Leaning up on your elbows you smiled at him. “God Sweetheart you’re so fucking beautiful,” he spoke, climbing onto the bed and between your legs.
Mouths on one another, tongues fighting, but somehow in sync with one another. Hands grabbing anything they could. “Can I take this off?” Eddie asked, playing with the hem of your shirt.
You nodded. “Use your words Sweetheart.”
“Yes.” Sliding off your cardigan first, you raised your arms above your head, letting him pull the shirt from your body.
Sat back on his knees, Eddies eyes were filled with lust. You were the most stunning person he’d ever seen. He began kissing down your chest, leaving marks along the top of your breasts.
“Can I?” he asked, dragging his fingers up to the back of your bra. “Yes,” you say, breathless. Undoing it, the bra was thrown somewhere in the room - frankly you couldn’t care less where it had landed.
“Fuck baby,” he said, taking your breasts in his hands, squeezing them lightly. You moaned out at the feeling. Leaning down, he placed his latched his mouth to one of your nipples. Sucking on it, twirling his tongue around.
“E-Eddie, oh fuck baby,” you cried out as he bit down lightly. Your hands tangled in his hair, pulling on it, he nipped more. “God I feel like I’m neglecting the other, better fix that. Right Sweetheart?”
You hummed in agreement, making Eddie cock his brow. “Y-yeah better fix i-” You didn’t get chance to finish as Eddie already began his attack.
You hips bucked up into him, making him grind down his own. Feeling his bulge grow in his jeans, your hands wandered down, squeezing him through the denim.
With a pop, he let go of your nipple. “Excuse me, what do you think you’re doing?” he asked. “I need you, please I need you,” you almost begged.
“I told you, I’ll give you anything you want. But you called me mean, so maybe I should make you work for it?” You eyes widened, you’d love to take him in your mouth, god he’d feel so good down your throat.
“Oh no, I’ll give you everything. You want me to make you work. Well no can do. You’ll take what I give you.” He began to unbutton your jeans, sliding them down your legs.
There you were, in only panties whilst he was fully clothed. He reached for the edge of his shirt, but hesitated. “It’s okay,” you said, sitting up to kiss his mouth.
Slowly you lifted his shirt up and off of him, there were scars and bite marks everywhere. You could see the doctors had done what they could, but the wounds were deep, ragged.
“You’re beautiful,” you spoke, kissing his chest, right above his heart. “So fucking beautiful Eds.” Your mouths connected again as Eddie climbed out of his jeans, pushing you down on the bed.
Lay in between your legs, his fingers trailed up your thighs. Biting, licking, sucking at your neck, his fingers found their way underneath your panties.
“God you’re so wet, all for me baby?”
“A-all for you.” You moaned when he brushed your clit, he smirked at that, rubbing again. “I bet I could just slide my fingers right in, better take the rings off.”
He went to move his hand, but you stopped him. “Please baby I need you,” you spoke, begging him. “What a dirty girl.” His fingers slid into you, making you cry out, the cold metal stretching you.
“F-fuck Eddie.”
“Already such a mess, better clean up,” he spoke, more to himself than anyone. Making his way down your body, he kissed everywhere he could.
Placing a gentle peck to each thigh, he let his tongue lick your slit. “Fuck!” you screamed, hands tangling in his hair. His mouth latched onto your clit, sucking on it, as his fingers curled upwards hitting that spot over and over.
“F-fu-Fuck .. E-Ed .. oh my god,” you babbled. “Does it feel so good?”
“Mhm,” you moaned.
“I asked you a question.”
“Y-yes, it feel so fucking g-good,” his fingers hit the spot again. “Who’s making you feel so good?”
“You!”
“Who’s that?” You could feel his smirk on you thighs, mouth licking you again. “You Eddie fuck. I’m gonna c-cum, fuck Eddie I’m gonna cum.”
“Yeah baby, give it to me. Cum for me, come on Sweetheart, cum.” You let out a cry of pleasure, clenching around Eddies fingers as you came. Legs shaking, he pressed soft kisses to your clit. Moving his fingers until your fingers weren’t so tight in his hair.
“Shit Sweetheart,” he laughed. You lay there trying to catch your breath. “You good?” he asked. You hummed, “Yeah.”
“Think you can take more?”
“Please,” you said, meeting his eyes.
“Do you uh … do you have a condom?”
“N-no, but I’m on birth control and I’m clean and I .. I trust you Eddie.”
He smiled softly, planting a kiss on your forehead. He slowly slid your panties down, his boxers following soon after. Fuck. You knew he’d be big, but fuck. He was thick and long and … well shit.
“Can you open up for me Sweetheart?” you legs spread for him, allowing him to line himself up. Slowly he slid into you. “F-fuck,” you moaned, he stretched you out so much. It felt so good.
“God baby you feel so good,” he moaned into your neck. Soon enough he was in you, bottoming out. “Can I move?”
“Please!” you cried out.
He did so, starting slowly, then building up a nice pace, nice and deep. You were squeezing around him. He smirked, taking hold of one of your legs, resting it over his shoulder.
Moving again, he was so deep, you could see him in your tummy. Each time, hitting that spot, making your body shake with pleasure. “Eddie oh my god,” you cried.
“I know, it just feels so good doesn’t it, fucking you so nice and deep,” his hips slammed into yours roughly, again and again, making you loose your voice.
You mouth was wide open and no sound was able to come out, eyes in the back of your head as he fucked you hard. His hand slid up to neck, squeezing softly. Rings cool, but sticky as they sat there.
“Fuck baby, I’m gonna cum soon, your pussy’s gripping me so good,” Eddie moaned. “Cum-cum in me p-please,” you begged, voice weak as his hand squeezed.
“Yeah you want all my cum?”
“P-please,” you said nodding, crying out again, “I-I’m gonna cum again baby f-fuck!”
“Cum all over my cock, come on Sweetheart, squeeze that dick.”
You did just that, body shaking, a loud moan leaving your body as you came, eyes rolling in the back of your head. Eddie groaned, thrusting his hips a few more times, “Fuck Sweetheart, fuck fuck fuck fu-“ hot ropes of cum filled you up.
The curly haired man dropped into your shoulder. Both of you breathing heavily. He kissed your shoulder, and neck where his hand had been. “You okay Sweetheart?”
“I’m okay, are you?”
“I’m more than okay.”
He pulled out as gently as he could, making you whine. Climbing up from the bed, you reached out for him, “I’m coming, just getting a washcloth hang on.”
You closed your eyes, listening to the faucet run for a few moments. Footsteps came closer and soon enough a warm washcloth was being rubbed gently on your lower body.
“All clean baby,” he said, kissing your stomach. He slid his boxers back on and helped you into his t-shirt. Pulling you into him, you listened to his heart beat.
“I don’t think you’re mean,” you spoke up, which made him laugh. “Oh I know, but I wasn’t lying when I said, I’ll give you anything you ask for.”
“Kiss me?”
He chuckled, pressing his mouth against yours softly. “I adore you,” he said, making your face flush. “Now Sweetheart, let’s get some rest, we’ve gotta be up early.”
“Okay. Goodnight Eds.”
“Goodnight Sweetheart.”

👻🦇🎃WIP Weekend🎃🦇👻
Not tagged by anyone but my vacation starts at 4:30pm today and while I'll be relaxing for most of next week READING fic, I have plenty of time over the weekend to WRITE fic. SO...
Here’s how it works:
In a reblog of this post or new thread, post up to five (5) filenames of your WIPs
Post a snippet from one of them. Snippet must be words you wrote in the last 7 days. We’re posting progress here. If you haven’t made any, go make some and come back to play!
After you’ve posted, people can send you an ask with one of your file names. You must then write 3 sentences in that file. If the filename is one you can't share from, write 3 sentences on it anyway, and then 3 more on another to share.
That’s it! You can invite others to join in, or just post.
If you’re reading this you’re invited! If you see someone post a WIP Wednesday Game snippet send them an ask! Make them write!
What I'm working on:
Fuggi Regal Fantasima - Ch1 (formerly unnamed ghost Eddie fic)
Midsummer Nights - Ch 2 (summer camp fic)
Caught in the Undertow - Ch 6
Secret one-shot - (If you choose the secret one-shot I'll write 3 lines of that, AND 3 of one of the others to actually share.)
Snippet from Fuggi Regal Fantasima:
Steve sort-of agreed about Dustin and the others, they were still too young and had already lost too much, but if Hopper, Joyce, and whoever the hell else thought they were going to bench him? They had another think coming, and he was pretty sure Robin, Nancy, and Jonathan felt the same way too. What he wouldn’t do though was stop the kids from helping to come up with a plan. Because damned if Steve knew what the hell they should do next.  Dustin leaned forward from his spot on the couch wedged between Erica and Will, steepling his fingers together in front of him. “So let me test my understanding. You set him on fire, and shot him—multiple times. He fell out of a third story window, and he just went… poof? Walked away?” There was a collective groan from the room, everyone except for Lucas and El who were at the hospital sitting with Max, and of course Dustin himself.   Robin rolled her eyes. “God, yes, Dustin. How many times do we have to go over this?!”

There are days when Steve wakes up and he hates his body. Looks in the mirror, disgusted, at the scars across his torso and neck, the stretch marks on his stomach and hips. How his thighs rub up against each other when he walks, how they expand when he sits down. Pulls meanly at the chub that’s accumulated at his tummy and chest.
After the upside down, after everything, Steve gained weight.
Eddie says it’s because he wasn’t constantly in fight-or-flight mode anymore, and his body was finally able to relax.
Robin says it’s because he was destined to have a bit of a dad bod, that it was just the ruling of the universe.
He still works out though. He’s in great shape too. Goes on a few-mile-long run every morning. lifts three times a week. The only thing he’d strongly refused was dieting.
Steve remembers how his mother would come home from her trips with his father, her cheeks gaunt and pale even through her makeup. Her thin frame hidden by a ridiculously expensive shawl.
How she used to sit him down and force him to separate “good foods” from “bad foods”.
How there were never any sweets in the house.
Back when Steve was young enough to need a nanny while his parents were away, he would beg and plead with her to just let him try one piece of candy. One lick of a lollipop. The closest he ever got was three dark chocolate baking chips.
Afterward, when he was left alone, when he was responsible for feeding himself and getting groceries, he would stand in the produce section for fifteen minutes, his mother's voice ringing in his head.
The first time he went to a movie and bought himself a soda and popcorn, he had to leave halfway through to cry.
The first time he had real candy, he almost had a panic attack.
It took him way too long to reteach himself about food, how to remember that food is food and food is fuel. That he should be listening to his body and eating what he wants when he’s hungry.
And here’s the thing. Steve knows that he’s the healthiest he’s ever been. Sees it in Mrs. Henderson’s eyes when he drops Dustin off, how he no longer hears her fussing about him being too skinny.
In Joyce’s smile when he gets up for seconds of his own cooking.
In Hopper and Wayne’s approving ‘dad nods’ when they all sit down over meat from the grill.
So on those days, when Steve wakes up and doesn’t feel like he’s right, he tries to remember that instead.
How Robin curled up against him one movie night, pausing before stating decisively, “You’re softer now dingus. It’s nice. Gives me the best pillow.”
How El will give him hugs that are tight tight tight and tell him he looks like a teddy bear she used to have.
How Eddie will absolutely worship him.
If that man could die beneath Steve, he would. Is far too obsessed with the way Steve’s ass moves.
They’ll get home from hanging out with the Party and Eddie won’t wait a single second before shoving Steve against the wall, mouthing at his neck.
How he pushes Steve onto the bed against his stomach, his face rubbing against the sheets as he braces his hands on Steve’s thighs in a way that causes bruises. Fucks his tongue into him, slow and sinful, telling him, “Go on sweetheart. That’s it, just like that. Doin’ so good for me.”  How Eddie moans like Steve is ambrosia from the gods and Eddie can do nothing but lap at their fountain.
How afterward, after steady thrusts and cries of each others’ names and the cooling of dried come, Eddie will cradle Steve close to his chest. Will whisper, “Love you so much, sweetheart. You’re it for me.” How he’ll sing him Head Over Heels by Tears for Fears, because as much as he preaches about hating the conformist bullshit and the top forty hits, he loves to see his boy happy, wiggling in Eddie’s arms as he sings Steve’s favorite song.

How to Rehabilitate a Jock in Four Months Part 11
Part One Part 10 Part Twelve Link to Ao3
Alrighty guys I want you all to thank @stevethehairington for betaing this and making it fantastic, @henderdads for making the poll that made me finally finish writing this, and @steveshairychest for being a furry lmaooo (Sorry I had to)
Also I know you guys reallllly aren't going to want to hear this, but I wanted to put out one more chapter before I let you know that HTRAJ is going on a hiatus. Not a long one! I just have way too many WIPs going right now, and two of them are Valentines gifts (and good reads if I do say so myself!)
Step Eleven: Play Some Music
“Steve gets shotgun,” Eddie called as they exited the trailer, tossing Steve a smile that made his chest feel fuzzy as he jumped down the last two steps.
“What the hell man?” Jeff grumbled, looking slightly put out, “We take turns,”
Steve opened his mouth to say he didn’t mind and he would take sitting in the back, but Eddie pushed him towards the van with ease.
“Steve’s never been inside of Hortensia, he deserves to see her at her absolute best,” He reasoned, giving Jeff a big megawatt smile and waiting to see what he would say. He still didn’t seem thrilled, but Jeff just rolled his eyes and climbed into the backseat.
Steve would have made a comment on the fact that Eddie had named his beat up clunker ‘Hortensia’ of all things, but it was just so Eddie that all he could do was smile and shake his head. That was classic Eddie, always seeing the good, always finding something to make better. A trashy white van was Hortensia, an ex-jock was a potential friend.
It was his superpower, almost as strong as El’s.
“Your ride, my liege,” Eddie said, opening the passenger side theatrically. Steve rolled his eyes and climbed in, buckling his seatbelt as Eddie jumped into the drivers side seat and flourished his keys.
“Let’s get this show on the road,” Eddie declared, turning the ignition.
Nothing.
Another attempt. The van gave a low grumble but did nothing.
“Damn hunk of junk, piece of shit, mother-”
“Hortensia, huh?” Steve said with a raised brow, interrupting Eddie’s tirade of angry muttering. He threw Steve a slightly dirty look, staring at him directly in the eye as he tried the ignition again.
Bingo. The van roared to life, headlights instantly taking the empty blackness around the trailer and filling it with trees. The entire group cheered as Eddie victoriously beeped the horn, and Steve opened his mouth to say some stupid comment that would probably make everyone laugh.
Then the headlights flickered.
In a single moment the ease, the happiness, it was just gone. Like a fire in dry brush, it had disappeared, and all that was left was a quick panicky feeling that there was something watching them, something waiting nearby.
He needed his bat.
“What the hell- Woah, what’re you doing?!” Eddie demanded as Steve shoved his way out of the car, walking over to his Beemer. He had already gotten his backpack out and was rifling through it by the time Eddie snuck up on him.
“Steve?” Eddie asked softly.
Eddie was out of the van. He was vulnerable. If something was sneaking up on them, then he would be the first one down.
Steve moved quickly, spinning the two of them so Eddie was up against his car, and Steve was out in front of him. That was better. He didn’t have a weapon, but he knew how to fight these things. At the very least, Eddie would have the time to run to the van if things went bad.
“Do you see anything?” Steve asked, looking around them.
The lights had only flickered once, just once, but once was enough. Once was a warning, and ignoring that would be stupid.
That was Hopper’s number one rule. Don’t be Stupid.
“What should I be seeing? A boogeyman?” Eddie teased, standing up straight and walking over to Steve, “You think I’m gonna see a were-”
“Eddie,” Steve cut him off with a severe look, grabbing Eddie’s wrist and pulling him behind him again, “Do you see anything?”
“No,” Eddie murmured after a moment. Steve spared a quick glance behind him, faltering when he saw just how uneasy Eddie was.
“There’s…Steve there’s nothing out there,”
Nothing out there. The lights were clear, they had been the entire time, and there was no growling, no sound of strange steps creeping up. Just the purr of a rusty engine, and the sound of Steve’s blood racing in his ears.
Eddie was right. There was nothing out there.
A rush of humiliation barreled over Steve, erasing everything else. He let out a slow shaking breath, running a hand over his face and hating the way his eyes were starting to burn.
A few lights acting funny and he turned into this? Over lights?
“Are you-”
“I’m fine,” Steve whispered, the lie strikingly obvious to both of them, “Just-”
Steve reached around Eddie and grabbed his backpack off of the ground, hefting it up over one shoulder and turning back to the van.
“I have what I need. Let’s go,” Steve said, closing the door before Eddie could ask him again if he was okay.
Flashlight, walkie-talkie, car keys, first aid kit, knife.
Flashlight, walkie-talkie, car keys, first aid kid, knife.
Flashlight-
What was he doing?
Steve forced an exhale, pushing all of the air out of his lungs, letting the deafening chatter from the car around sink back in, and finally releasing the death grip he had on his bag.
The backpack that had his flashlight, walkie-talkie, car keys, first aid kit, and knife. Everything he could carry inconspicuously in case of an emergency. His knife wasn’t ideal, but better than nothing. Steve would have loved to have Baby with him too, but she had to stay in the trunk of the Beemer. The last thing he needed was everyone to know how actually insane he was now, and carrying around a bat full of nails was a one way ticket to the loony bin.
Maybe he should ask Nancy to teach him how to shoot a gun. A pistol was easily hidden, and-
Jesus. There really was something wrong with him.
This was fun. Steve was supposed to be having fun. It was just a nice normal night with nice normal friends. The gates were closed, the kids were all together having a sleepover at the Wheeler’s, everything was just fine.
So why was his stomach still twisted up in knots? Why was he obsessively looking out the window at the trees, just to make sure nothing was running alongside the van?
“What do you think, Steve?” Eddie asked, thrusting Steve back into the conversation happening all around him. The bumping bass from the radio was gone, and the rest of the group was now staring at him, waiting for an answer.
Shit.
Steve curled his hand around the strap of his backpack again, shrugging and giving Eddie a tight lipped smile, hoping that would be at least a somewhat adequate answer. Judging by Eddie’s furrowed brow and downturned mouth, it wasn’t.
Flashlight. Walkie-Talkie. Car Keys. First Aid Kit. Knife. Flashlight. Walkie-Talkie. Car Keys. First Aid Kit. Knife.
“He probably hasn’t listened to either of them yet,” Jeff cut in, tapping his chin.
Oh. They were still talking about bands. Steve probably couldn’t have answered that question even if he had been listening instead of quietly freaking out.
“You can tell us which was your favorite after the show,” Frank said, making eye contact with Steve from the rearview mirror and giving him an easygoing smile. Steve returned it, feeling the tension in his shoulders ease up ever so slightly.
Frank was a cool guy. Understated, but nice. He always kind of hung around in the back, but that was fine. In a group like Hellfire with so many big personalities, having a steady person like Frank helped to balance everything out.
“I still think he would like Black Sabbath best,” Jeff said, settling back in his seat.
“Of course you think that,” Gareth replied with a roll of his eyes, pausing for a minute before crossing his arms and continuing in a begrudging tone, “Quiet Riot. Everyone can appreciate them. Even Steve.”
It wasn’t exactly an insult, so Steve decided to let go of any part of him that bristled at Gareth’s words. Gareth was a lot like Mike, it took him time to warm up. It was just…taking a bit longer than Steve had expected it to.
Whatever. He liked a good challenge.
“Trust me, we’ll play a song from the new Dio album and Steve’ll be a total convert,” Eddie said, shooting Steve a bright smile that warmed him from the top of his head to the tip of his toes. “We’ll have to get you a battle vest to match mine soon enough,”
Without really thinking about it, Steve let go of his bag and reached up to play with the guitar pick hanging around his neck. Even just touching it was enough to ease away whatever nerves were still rolling around his body.
It wasn’t like he was magically some different person, but wearing Eddie’s clothes and having his necklace was… it was almost like there was a shield. They were a buffer, a barrier between Steve and the fear that seemed to rule over everything he did nowadays. Here he wasn’t the babysitter or the protector. He was the new kid, someone who was still learning and allowed to slip up. If he didn’t know something, then it wasn’t the end of the world.
“You sure you’re okay?” Eddie asked, staying quiet so the other three who were still debating wouldn’t hear him.
“Yeah,” Steve replied immediately, squeezing his fingers around the chain and taking a slow deep breath, “better now,”
“If you wanna talk, I’m always here,” Eddie whispered back, giving Steve one more soft glance before turning his eyes back to the road. Steve sighed, dropping his hands back to his lap and letting his head rest against the seatbelt, closing his eyes so he didn’t have to see the forest around them.
The thing was, Steve knew he wanted to talk to Eddie. He wanted to tell him that Dustin had left at 4 o’clock today, and Steve had been late because he was nervous about coming tonight. He wanted to tell Eddie that he was worried about fitting in, worried about letting his guard down, worried about the endless ‘what-if's' that seemed to run around in his mind in an endless loop these days. Eddie would listen, and even if he didn’t understand, he would empathize.
Steve wanted to, but he couldn’t.
Because Eddie was understanding, but he was also so so nosey. He would poke and prod and try to learn the whole story, because he wouldn’t be able to help himself, and Steve couldn’t handle that. If that happened, Steve would have to pull back, put distance between them. Not only to protect himself and his people, but to protect Eddie too.
Steve had seen what happened to people who got pulled into their world.
Bob was what happened.
And even the thought of something like that happening to Eddie made Steve’s heart race. He reached up to touch the guitar pick again just to ground himself in the moment.
It was fine. Nothing was going to happen to Eddie. Nothing was going to happen to any of them. Steve wouldn’t let anything ever happen to any of them.
“Alright freeloaders, we’re here!” Eddie crowed, and Steve opened his eyes just as they pulled into the parking lot of a dingy looking hovel.
The place looked about two steps from being closed for a health code violation, and Steve was instantly reminded that his mom had made him promise to never get within a thousand feet of the Hideout. It was apparently a bar for ‘other’ kinds of people. Mechanics and factory workers and cashiers. Not Harringtons.
But here he was, right outside, and the world hadn’t caved in. Imagine that. Steve laughed quietly to himself, getting out of the van and coming around to the back with the rest.
“‘Sup douchebags!” A voice called from across the parking lot.
Rocky and Janet were walking over, both decked out in their metal best. Rocky was wearing the same spiked vest he wore every day, but he had chosen a pair of jeans to go with it that was more chain than denim, a look that would have gotten him sent straight to detention if he so much as stepped onto the parking lot of the school wearing it. Janet was wearing her usual attire, but her hair was up in a messy bun complete with deep dark eyeliner and a skull patterned choker.
“Hey asshole,” Gareth replied, slapping Rocky’s hand against his own and opening the van door, “Help us with set up?”
As they began to coordinate getting all of the stuff out of the van, Janet skipped over to Frank to chat.
“I thought you weren’t allowed to come out tonight,” Frank said, rubbing his arm and giving her a timid smile.
“I wasn’t. As far as my parents know I’m asleep in bed right now,” She replied, giving Frank a mischievous little grin as she kissed him quickly on the cheek, turning around before she could see the way the boy immediately turned into a tomato.
“Hi Steve. I like the new look. You should wear it to school when we go back. Start 1985 off with a bang,” Janet said in her normal slightly snarky tone.
“Hi Janet,” Steve said, shoving his hands into the pockets of his leather jacket and ducking his head down to hide the stupid grin on his face as she came over to inspect him, pointing out various add-ons he could have made to get the ‘true full metal experience’.
This was the thing he had been searching for. Blissful normalcy with dumb conversations and stupid lighthearted jabs. Something easy that wasn’t bogged down in reality.
“Hup two, guys. We’re already late,” Eddie huffed, pulling on an amp that was far too big for him to hold up on his own.
“And who’s fault is that?” Jeff said with a roll of his eyes, quickly stepping in to take the other side of the equipment and gently easing it out of the van. Steve grabbed a random box and hefted it up, walking towards the door with Janet hot on his heels, still examining his new outfit.
“Is that Eddie’s necklace?” She blurted out the second she spotted the dark red swirls, her jaw dropping open comically wide as she stared at it with huge eyes.
“Someone decided to play Heavy Metal Barbie with pretty boy right before we were supposed to leave,” Gareth grunted, accidentally smacking Rocky with one of his drums as he stepped out of the van.
“Okay! Let’s just get moving, please!” Eddie quickly shouted in an uncharacteristically high pitched voice, practically dragging Jeff as he hurried into the bar.
If Steve wanted to let himself over examine things, then he would have dared to say that Eddie was blushing. Instead of assessing that particular thought, he grabbed the door and held it open for the rest.
With all seven of them working, set up went quickly, and before too long there were only a few things left to get.
“I’ll grab them so you can start tuning or whatever,” Steve offered.
“I’ll go with you,” Rocky said, pulling Steve out of the bar.
“You know, I can’t believe he let you wear his lucky pick,” Rocky said the second they were alone outside, pitching his voice low even though there was no one to overhear them. “He doesn’t even let anyone else touch it, let alone wear it. ”
This was enough to stop Steve in his tracks, his eyes darting down to the little piece of plastic around his neck.
No one else was even allowed to touch it?
The necklace was already sentimental enough when it was just Eddie’s favorite. Now it was something precious, a treasure that wasn’t meant for any other person. Steve had been joking about Eddie staking a claim on him before, but the guitar pick practically felt like a brand at this point.
The startling thing was just how much Steve didn’t mind.
It was the same as ‘Sweetheart’. This was another thing that guys weren’t supposed to do for other guys, another thing that Steve shouldn’t want. He should be taking it off right now, handing it back to Eddie and going home back to the life he belonged in.
None of this was right. Steve shouldn’t be here at a bar meant for people who were supposedly below him, he shouldn’t be dressed up like a metalhead going to listen to thrashing loud music in the middle of the night, and he certainly shouldn’t be happy Eddie Munson was having him wear something he wouldn’t even let anyone else even touch.
This wasn’t the way things were supposed to be. This wasn’t who Steve was supposed to be.
But was anything the way it was meant to be anymore?
There were monsters from other dimensions and little girls who could move things with their minds. There were government cover ups, evil scientists, and dead people all over the place.
No, nothing was how it was supposed to be anymore. At least this was a change that made Steve happy. He didn’t need to think about that too much, or try to figure out why.
At least, he didn’t need to yet.
“Well…maybe he just thought I could use some good luck tonight,” Steve murmured, reaching up and letting his fingers rest against the necklace for a moment before grabbing one last amp and walking back into the bar. He put it down gently on the floor of the ‘stage’ (It was a rickety wooden platform that was barely a feet off the ground, but Eddie had called it a stage), fully intending to turn right around and go back to the car to get his backpack.
“That was the last of it, Sweetheart,” Eddie called from behind, making Steve stop short, “Rocky and Jan grabbed the best table in the house for you guys. It’s far enough that the drunks won’t hurl on you if they end up having a little bit too much. ”
“Oh um,” Steve’s mind flitted around as he looked for any excuse he could use, “I…left my wallet in the van,”
Steve crossed his fingers, praying that Eddie wouldn’t call out the very obvious wallet shaped lump in his right pants pocket.
“You won’t need it,” Eddie said smoothly, hopping down and steering Steve gently towards the table with their friends, “The barkeep knows to keep my people fed and watered. Just let him know you’re here with me, or better yet, make Rocky do all the heavy lifting. He is a freshman after all, he has to take his licks.”
That would be great if Steve was actually worried about his wallet. He wasn’t. He needed his flashlight, walkie-talkie, car keys, first aid kit, and knife. He needed to be prepared in case things went wrong.
He needed those things, but he couldn’t explain to Eddie why, and he couldn’t walk out right now without looking like he was trying to ditch. Steve’s breathing started to kick up, and he could feel his heart leaping in his chest.
They weren’t safe right now. Anything could happen, and he wasn’t prepared. Anything could go wrong, and-
“Relax,” Eddie said slowly as they reached the table, pulling out a stool and nudging Steve towards it, “No one’s gonna bite,”
“I will,” Rocky immediately replied, baring his teeth just for show.
“Okay well don’t sit too close to him, and you’ll be just fine,” Eddie laughed, the other two Hellfire members snickering alongside him. This was where Steve should laugh with them too, but his throat was closing up.
He was in a place he didn’t know, with a group who he didn’t really know, without anything to defend himself or keep in touch with his people.
This wasn’t safe. Steve wasn’t safe right now.
A soft touch on his arm startled him and he jumped back. Or he would have, if Eddie hadn’t held on and kept him from moving and crashing into the table. Steve stiffened up, looking up at Eddie knowing that he wasn’t doing a damn thing to hide how freaked out he had become.
He couldn’t care about that. He couldn't care about anything except how dangerous everything had suddenly become.
“Seriously. Everything’s okay. I promise,” Eddie whispered, leaning in so their heads were close together. Steve closed his eyes, taking a deep breath the way Joyce had shown him. In for four, hold for four, out for four.
Usually it didn’t do anything for him, breathing slowly normally only made him even more aware of how little air there was in the room, but the breathing combined with Eddie’s hand still on his arm was enough to get Steve centered again.
Everything was okay. The kids were safe, Nancy and Jonathan were safe, Hopper and Joyce were safe.
Steve was safe.
He was out with friends doing something fun, and there was nothing wrong with that. This was normal. This was what he was working towards. All he wanted was something easy, and this was easy. He didn’t have to make things complicated by being afraid.
And, if anything went wrong, he could just run outside and get his things.
“Thanks,” Steve whispered.
“Anytime,” Eddie whispered back, his big dark eyes locked on Steve’s. Once again Steve was completely aware of the guitar pick around his neck, and the fact that no one else was even allowed to touch it.
“Eddie! Seriously! Tick fucking tock!” Frank shouted from the ‘stage’. Eddie growled quietly, muttering to himself about evil bandmates who had no sense of boundaries. Steve snorted, chuckling softly until Eddie stopped grumbling.
“Have a good show,” Steve said, pulling away from Eddie and hopping up onto the stool.
“Prepare to have your world rocked,” Eddie said, trying to act cool as he walked backwards, but tripping on the world’s tiniest step and falling flat on his ass on the stage.
Steve made a valiant attempt to not laugh along with the rest of the bar, but he quickly failed, tossing his head back and laughing loudly, putting a hand on his chest and feeling the hard plastic against his fingertips. Eddie paused, giving Steve an indescribable look before straightening up and brushing away the invisible dirt from his vest.
“And with that incredibly suave move, I’d like to formally introduce our band to the dozen or so drunks that are here tonight,” Eddie said into the mic, spreading his arms out wide like he would at Hellfire. The meager crowd yelled back and raised their drinks, making Eddie put on an absolutely feral grin
“Ladies and gentleworms, we are Corroded Coffin,”
Much like Dungeons and Dragons, Steve hadn’t really expected that he would enjoy the show. He liked Eddie and he enjoyed the rest of the group, so he figured he would come and watch and be a good sport.
And, much like Dungeons and Dragons, he was completely wrong.
It wasn’t his favorite genre of music by any means, but the energy in the air was absolutely enthralling. From the first note there was just this push, this indescribable palpable movement in the air that was exhilarating while also being settling. It was like they were collectively experiencing something special, and all having a grand old time while doing it.
It didn’t hurt that he was also about four whiskey sours in.
He had only planned to drink one, maybe two, but every time his glass was empty another magically appeared by his arm, courtesy of Rocky and Janet. He had tried to turn them down a few times, but they could be awfully persuasive when they wanted to be, and Steve couldn’t help hoping that the alcohol might clear up the last bit of the panic that was still rolling around in his head.
So with a warm fire in his belly and a brain that was finally for once quieting down, he happily listened as Janet and Rocky screamed the lyrics right alongside Eddie and the rest. He couldn’t really understand, per say, but the energy was all that mattered.
And then, halfway into their set, everything fell apart.
“Alright, everyone,” Eddie said as they caught their breath from an original that left everyone slapping their tables and stomping their feet, “It’s time to settle a bet.”
He turned to face Steve dead on, a gleam in his eyes that had nothing to do with the low light of the bar.
“We have, let’s call him a…metal virgin, with us tonight,” Eddie drawled, letting the crowd hoot and holler as they pleased. There was less than two dozen people in the bar with them, and there was no way any of them besides Hellfire knew that Eddie was talking about Steve, but he still felt like every eye in the room had just turned to him.
“Earlier tonight the band and I were trying to figure out who would make him a convert. Black Sabbath, Quiet Riot, Metallica. I said Dio, because I think this song is right up his alley. So, this one’s for you,”
Steve’s heart began to race in a completely brand new way as Eddie began shredding down on his guitar, joined by Gareth with an impressively quick beat on the drums.
The song was good. It was fast-paced, lively, and Steve could actually follow along with the lyrics unlike some of the more intense songs from before. Eddie had hit it exactly. The song was just another example of Eddie knowing him even more than Steve expected him to.
It was so good in fact, that Steve almost didn’t notice the lights behind the bar begin to flicker.
Almost.
Steve’s hands began to shake as his eyes darted around, looking at all of the walls. The other lights were also flickering, but the walls were still straight and narrow. No bending. No monsters.
Not yet.
Or not here.
Steve’s heart dropped as reality slapped him square across the face. If the lights were flickering, but there was no sign of any monsters, then they were close, but not here. They could be anywhere, going after anyone.
Going after one of his people.
Steve stumbled off the stool, catching Janet and Rocky’s attention as he nearly toppled to the ground.
“Steve! Are you okay?!” Janet yelled above the noise.
No, he wasn’t okay. He was a stupid fool in fact. A complete idiot who had honestly let himself believe that the danger was gone when he knew it wasn’t.
“I- I need to-” Steve couldn’t finish the sentence, couldn’t make his breath even enough to find the words for what he needed.
He needed his bat. He needed his backpack. He needed to get in touch with Hopper. He needed to get out of here.
He needed to find his kids.
And then, just as Eddie hit one last screeching solo note on his guitar, everything went dark.

Batshit Soulmates: Epilogue
Here it is. The end of an era. I struggled mightily with this one because I was so focused on canon that I forgot that I'm a writer and I can do what I want.
Once I got over myself the story just flowed so well it was done in two weeks.
But as I said last week, I'm a little mean to you in this. Spoiler under the cut.
In Medias Res| Prologue|Pt 1|Pt 2|Pt 3|Pt 4|Pt 5|Pt 6|Pt 7|Pt 8| Pt 9|
This ends the way season four does only with all the allies together not just some of them.
****
Nancy, Robin, and Dustin all returned to Steve’s house to make sure Eddie was safe.
Steve told Eddie that his uncle knew he was alive and would get into contact soon.
Eddie nearly cried in relief. “Thank you, Stevie.”
Then a car pulled up at that exact moment. Then of all things a pizza truck. Steve pushed Eddie into a nearby bathroom and looked out the window.
Out of the pizza truck hopped out both Byers boys, Mike, and the driver, a long haired native boy in a Hawaiian shirt. Then Joyce, Murray, and a very much alive Hopper exited the car.
And Steve’s heart nearly burst. He quickly ushered them all inside. His street had a lot of empty houses since the earthquake, the rich having somewhere else to go, but he didn’t trust the ones that remained.
Everyone was hugging everyone else. Jonathan and Nancy, El and Hopper. Joyce and Will. Everyone was safe. Max and the Sinclairs weren’t there, but they were safe too.
Robin, Steve and Eddie on the sidelines feeling happy that they were all reunited at last.
The first thing everyone did was tell their stories. El started, then the Byers, then Joyce and Murray, Hopper next, Steve and Dustin, then Nancy and Robin.
There was just so much to do.
“He’s still alive,” El said, “I couldn’t kill him. He hurt Max and I couldn’t leave her. I couldn’t leave her and the bastard survived.”
Joyce scooped her up into her arms and rocked her back and forth, gently. “You did the right thing, sweetheart. Max is alive because of you.”
“We’re going to have to find a place to stash Hopper and El until this blows over,” Nancy said. “They can’t stay here, it’s already a risk with Eddie being here. But at least with him, Steve can claim truemate status.”
The heads of all the people who hadn’t been in Hawkins turned to Steve in shock.
“Eddie is your truemate?” Mike wailed. He sat down and put his head in his hands. “Of course he is. Fuck that makes too much sense.”
Steve could only agree, honestly.
Eddie put his arm around his waist and pressed a kiss to his cheek. “I didn’t think so at first, but clearly the universe is smarter than we are.”
Dustin scoffed. “I think that could be said for most of the universe’s population, too.”
Both Eddie and Steve knocked off his hat together.
Robin cackled. “Hey, kids. If Steve’s the mom, then you all have a new step-dad!”
Joyce and Hopper chuckled but everyone else groaned.
Nancy tapped her foot irritated. “Can we get back on to the topic at hand, namely finding a place to put Hopper and El so the government doesn’t find them?”
“My cabin is in pretty shit shape,” Hopper admitted. “But I think if we all work together, we can make it livable again for me and Jane.”
Steve nodded. “That should work. No one found El when she was there before, so they should be safer there.”
“Just not everyone show up at once,” Joyce warned. “Too many people coming and going will alert others.”
Everyone agreed, but as they piled out of Steve’s house the sky lit up in red storm clouds. Ash fell upon Hawkins and ground trembled.
Everyone stopped on Steve’s lawn looking up at the sky, knowing Vecna had finally made his move.
The Upside Down was bleeding into the top world.
The war had begun.

I want to thank everyone for coming long with me on this ride. It's been fun!

The Angel
Pairings : Billy Hargrove x Fem!Reader
Summary : 2 years have passed since Billy was used as a host for the Mind Flayer and as soon as he recovered, he went back to California where he met you.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Picture from Pinterest
Warnings : Swearing, Karen Wheeler mentions
Word Count : 1.2k
A/N : I couldn't find a gif of him on the floor of the sauna but to me it always looked like ripped away angel wings.
You had always noticed the scars that littered his body, especially the identical large scars on his shoulder blades. Billy was insecure around you at first before he warmed up to you and now he's more than willing to take his shirt off around you, hell he hates the feeling of shirts, claims he's allergic to them.
It was summer time in Santa Barbara, the fan in your room on the highest setting and the two of you lounged around. "We should go see Top Gun." Billy looked at you and scowled, "No, you just want to see Tom Cruise shirtless." You rolled your eyes, "I'm sick of shirtless men," you said, poking fun at him.
"Oh really," your boyfriend asked as he flexed and the scars became slightly more prominent. He never talked about them but Billy noticed the way you looked at them, you never stared, you were taught that staring was rude and disrespectful. "I got these in Hawkins." You nodded, "That's the Indiana place right?" He nodded and laid down, resting his head on your black pillow.
"There was creepy shit in that town, like supernatural shit." You nodded and held his hand. "Um, it was during the summer, I can't really remember the date but I think I was fresh eighteen and I was a lifeguard at the community pool." He furrowed his brow, trying to remember some of the details, sure he had been told about things but he still tried to fill in the gaps on his own.
"There was this mom, Karen was her name, I was going to meet up with her one night at a motel six and on the way to the motel, something hit my car and shattered my windshield, it was a spiderweb shatter. I was at this abandoned warehouse and I was dragged down the stairs by this shadow monster thing." He looked at your face, trying to gage your reaction, ready for the laughs, claiming that he was funny for coming up with an absurd story but it never came.
He was met with soft eyes, eyes that were on his face trying to look for any signs of discomfort. "It did something to me, I can't remember, no matter how hard I try. I had trouble going to work because it didn't like the heat and my skin would burn and I'd get these black veins all over my body." He swallowed the lump in his throat and you rubbed his knuckles.
"It fed off energy so I gathered people, um my co-worker Heather, I don't know what happened to her afterwards. The scars on my back are from a fight in a sauna against this freaky little girl, she was friends with Max." You nodded, knowing who Max was. "They never healed, I'm not sure why. July fourth came and I don't know if you ever heard about it, probably not, I doubt it made the news here but the mall burned down." You nodded, "I heard about it, they said there were two casualties." Billy nodded, "Obviously there weren't, actually, I'm not sure about Hopper but that freaky kid, her name's El or Jane, the kids called her both."
"I was going to sacrifice her and she did this weird shit and got into my head and I felt human again for the first time in a while, even before I got turned into that weird monster. I didn't want anything to happen to her so I was going to sacrifice myself, Max was in the mall with her friends. I was horrible to her and I felt like it was the only way to show her that I cared about her. The monster hit me, here, here and here," he said as he pointed to the scars on his chest, sides and abdomen.
"Apparently someone closed the gate or whatever, I don't remember what they called it but basically, the shadow monster wasn't able to penetrate deep enough to kill me, that's how I got all of these scars." You nodded and looked at each one. "I'm sorry," you said and he looked at you. "What're you apologizing for?" You shrugged, "I don't know, I just feel like I should be sorry. Sorry that it happened to you, I don't know." Billy shook his head, "If none of that happened, I wouldn't be here with you so I guess in a way, I'm glad it happened, Just wish I didn't have the physical reminders." You nodded.
You traced some of the scars, "Your back scars remind me of an angel." He raised a brow, "Baby, I'm far from an angel," he said flirtatiously and winked at you making you laugh at him, your cheeks heating up at the reminder of the previous night that was spent with him. "They remind me of angel wings, like they were taken from you." Billy looked at you before laughing, "You're so cheesy." You groaned and flicked his nose and he laughed as he scrunched it.
"Too bad I can't call you Angel since you already call me that." Billy laughed, "Yup, it's taken, can't be used." You both laughed and he opened his arms for you to lay on his chest and you gladly got comfortable on him, putting your head under his chin. "B." He hummed, "Do you wish you could go back to Hawkins?" "No, I'm glad I got out of it. I wish I could see my sister but she'll be eighteen in a few years, she writes to me a lot plus she's coming to visit in July. She wants to meet you." You smiled against his neck, "You talk about me?" He laughed, "Yeah, of course I do, sent her one of our polaroids too. She thinks you're pretty." You smiled.
"She did mention that when she visits in July she doesn't want to hear happy screams. Whatever that means," he said, acting clueless. You both laughed and he held you tightly, you noticed he did that a lot more lately. He yawned loudly and dramatically smacked his lips and you laughed at him. "Wanna stay the night?" "Is your dad gonna try and chase me over your fence? I can't jump over it again, I ripped a pair of my pants doing that." You bit your lip, trying so hard to keep the laugh in.
"He's in Arizona for business. Won't be back until August and mom has the night shift." He nodded and leaned over to turn off the lamp as he pulled the sheet over your body, knowing that if he got too hot, he would start to panic. He felt your hand search for his and he felt you smile against him as you intertwined your fingers. Your breathing evened out and he let out a happy sigh, he was healing, the physical healing was done and over with a year ago but he was mentally and emotionally healing from everything he's ever gone through.
He still hasn't talked about his dad but maybe he will, Baby Billy still needed to heal after all. You held him slightly tighter in your sleep and he knew you were dreaming and he smiled and kissed the top of your hair before shifting a little and falling asleep with the moonlight being the only light in the room.

Honey, You're Familiar: Chapter Three
(AO3) (Masterpost) (4625 Words)
A Steve Harrington x meta!Reader slowburn multichapter fic.
Summary: You befriend a psychic, give Steve a pep talk, and get the gang together.
---
You, Hopper and Joyce sit in the Byers’ living room.
“You kicked Lonnie out again then?” You ask.
“I found the pamphlet, right where you said it would be.” Joyce says furiously. “God, I can’t believe that bastard!”
“I’m sorry-” you begin.
“No, no, this is on me for even believing him in the first place!” Joyce fumes.
“Let’s focus on Will,” Hopper intervenes, trying to bring calm to the situation. “What do we do next?”
“You go to see Terry Ives,”
“Ives… why do I know that name?” Hopper mutters, before a look of horror dawns in his eyes. “The woman who said Dr Brenner took her kid, from the news report. So she was telling the truth all along?”
You nod solemnly. “Her child, Jane, is the girl who was seen at Benny’s diner, who has been hiding in Mike Wheeler’s basement the past week,”
“The one who’s been in the lab the whole time.”
“That’s right. I’m going to be meeting with her tonight, hopefully, which should set us up well for tomorrow.”
“And what’s happening tomorrow?” Joyce asks.
“Mike Wheeler’s going to jump off a cliff, Jonathan is going to punch a cop, and we might- might- just save your son,”
“Might?” Hopper questions.
“Just because I know the future, doesn’t mean I control it,” you reply with a shake of your head. “I’ve done everything I can to set us up for success, now we just have to hope that everything goes according to plan. Speaking of—”
You get up from the couch and head into Will’s room, reaching under the bed to find what you’re looking for. You pull out his walkie-talkie and head back to the adults. “—I need to take this.”
“But it's Will’s.” Joyce weakly protests.
“I know. And when we get him back tomorrow night, I will give it straight back, okay?” you pick your words carefully, and they have the intended effect of reassuring Joyce. She leans back into the sofa heavily.
“You can’t tell us anything else?” Hopper asks, still tense.
You pause. In the show, Hopper tells the lab where El is in exchange for letting him and Joyce go through the gate. You pray he will make a better choice in this reality. “We need to protect Eleven. We need to keep her away from those monsters at the lab, so keep her location a secret.”
You turn to Joyce and add: “And don’t be too hard on Jonathan when you get to the station. It's been a rough week for all of us,”
You go to leave but remember one last thing. “Do you have any children’s gloves?”
God it’s cold out. Now that the sun has completely set and the moon hangs in the sky, the November chill permeates the air, cooling you to the bone and making you shiver. The trees seem to shiver too as the wind bristles through them, filling the woods with a susurrus of leaves. The cold makes the scabbed gashes on your calf ache but you maintain your search. In the show, it’s implied that Eleven slept in the woods after the fight with Mike in the junkyard, but you just couldn’t let the poor girl suffer through that.
Eventually, you spot a flash of baby pink fabric.
“El! I’m not with the bad men or your papa, I’m a friend of Mike’s! Can we talk please?” You call out, hoping and praying that she dares to trust you.
You hear a rustle from behind a tree before the scruffy girl steps out. “Friend?” She asks, watching you with wide, owlish eyes.
“Yes, I’m a friend. I know you just had a fight with Mike and I want to help. You can’t stay out here all night, you’ll freeze,”
“You know? Know how?” Her eyes narrow as she wraps her arms around herself.
“It’s a little bit of a long story, will you come back to my home to talk? It’s warm and we can have something nice to eat,”
El hugs herself tighter, clearly feeling the chill but not trusting you enough to follow.
“Eleven, I promise I will do everything I can to keep the bad men away from you. You’re safe with me. Friends don’t lie, right?” taking a risk, you reach your hand out to her.
She walks towards you at an agonisingly slow pace, as if waiting for you to change your tune and attack. Her small hand slips into yours and you hiss under your breath as you feel her frozen fingers. Thank god for planning ahead.
“Here,” you offer, pulling the pair of gloves out of your jacket. El watches as you carefully pull them onto her hands and secure them around her wrists.
“Better?” you ask.
“Better,” she echoes.
Her eyes follow you in an unnerving way as you potter around your apartment. El is curled up on your armchair with a blanket while you prepare dinner for both of you.
“You know Mike?” she eventually asks, nervously, like she’s afraid of being told off for speaking. Your heart aches for her.
“I do! I know Dustin and Will and Lucas too. I work at an arcade, which is a building where you can go to play lots of games,” you explain.
“Lucas…” she whispers sadly. You head to her and crouch down before the armchair.
“El, you didn’t mean to hurt him. You’re not a monster. He and Mike were fighting, so you wanted them to stop, right?”
She nods her head cautiously, still confused by how you know all this.
“Exactly. And you used a bit too much power and threw Lucas a bit too far. Accidents happen, kiddo. You should still apologise when you next see him, just like he should apologise for saying those bad things about you, but it doesn’t make you a monster,”
“He’s right,” she says, tears now welling in her eyes as her breath catches in her chest. “The bad things. I lied. Lucas is right,”
You gather her in your arms as her tears turn to full blown sobs. She tenses for a long moment, before returning the hug tightly.
“El… Lucas is upset because his friend is missing. All he saw was you messing with the compasses, but he didn’t understand your intentions.”
“In-ten…”
“Intentions. It means he doesn’t know why you did it.”
“Keep them safe.”
“I know, kiddo. But they don’t know about the gate, or the monster. They don’t know how dangerous it is, so they don’t know what you’re trying to keep them safe from.”
“You know…?” El pulls back, looking at you cautiously again.
“About the gate and the monster? Yeah,” You say sadly. Your timer in the kitchen goes off, making El jump. “I’ll explain while we’re eating, okay? Food is important, I don’t want you getting hungry.”
El wolfs down your pasta bake like she hasn’t eaten in days. Which, to be fair, is almost the case. You doubt Mike was able to sneak her much.
You tell her about your home world, about the tv show, about the things you’ve changed. She listens attentively through it all.
“Here… why?” she eventually asks, pasta sauce around her mouth. You hand her a napkin, which she stares at in confusion, before you just reach over and wipe it off yourself.
“I don’t know why I’m here,” you admit. “It’s a little scary. I think it might have something to do with the Upside Down, but I came here before the gate was opened,”
“Help find out.” El says with determination, small face turning serious, and you can’t help but smile at her instinct to help.
“Thank you El, that’s really sweet of you. You’re a good kid.” You say, making her blush.
You get her to help you wash the dishes, letting her play with the soap suds that surround the sink. After, you get out some old pyjamas and offer them to her, but she looks at them unhappily.
“No,” she says, crossing her arms. It takes you a moment to guess why.
“I’m not going to take the dress away from you, kiddo. We can clean it up and you can put it back on tomorrow. This is just so you’re comfy and warm while you sleep.”
“Promise?”
“I promise, El. I won’t take the dress away from you.”
She takes the dress off and you prepare some warm water as she changes into the pyjamas. You get a cloth and wipe the dirt off the dress, tidying it up a little and leaving it on a hanger where El can see it. It isn’t as good as a full wash, but it’s still an improvement.
She eventually joins you in the bathroom.
“Can I wash your face?” You ask, showing her the sink of water and the cloth in your hand.
She touches the water and the cloth carefully before nodding slowly at you. Gently, you wipe over her face, removing both the dirt and the old makeup Mike had applied to her face yesterday. She watches you as you move the cloth around her face, carefully scrubbing at a clump of dirt that has nestled its way into her eyebrow.
“Pretty,” she says, looking at you past the washcloth.
“You think I’m pretty? Thank you, El,” you smile. “I think you’re really pretty too,”
She ducks her head at this, pulling away from the cloth. “Lie,” she mutters, embarrassed.
“Hey!” you say, encouraging her head back up so you can look her in the eye. “Friends don’t lie, El. You are really pretty,”
The girl runs an insecure hand over her scalp, but doesn’t duck her head again.
“So what if you don’t have any hair right now? It just means everyone can see your pretty eyes better,” You say, repeating a line your mom once told you when you accidentally cut your bangs too short. “Besides, hair grows back, kiddo. In fact, I know in the future, you have lovely curly hair,”
“Really?” she asks, wide eyed.
“Really,” you confirm. “Now stay still, I haven’t cleaned behind your ears,”
You wake up with visions of the demogorgon still haunting your mind, and a cramp in your mostly healed leg. You had given El your bed and slept curled up in your armchair. You limp over to the toaster and put in some eggos for you both.
“Hurt?” El asks, making you jump. She is peeking her head through the bedroom door which you had left open through the night.
“Uh, yeah. The demogorgon hurt me.”
“When?”
“Tuesday. The same day Mike spent the day with you and you saw the picture of Will.”
“Mike…”
“You’re gonna see him again today, kiddo. In fact, he’s gonna need your help. You remember the mouthbreathers from the middle school?”
She gets a mischievous smile as she thinks back to that day, giving you a nod.
“Well, they’re going to try and hurt Mike and Dustin. You’ll need to use your powers to save them.”
“Use powers?” She says, her eyes suddenly filling with doubt and fear. The toaster pops and you lead her to the table, handing her the plate of waffles.
“Your powers aren’t bad, El. You can use them to hurt people, yes, but you can also use them to help. And Mike will need your help today,”
You walk Eleven back to the woods, and show her where she can hide near the quarry until the time is right.
“Okay, today will be a little intense, so I need you to listen, alright? After you’ve helped Mike and Dustin you can stop by Mike’s house to resupply but you need to leave as soon as you can, okay? Your papa is going to come looking for you.”
“Papa?” El gasps, shoulders tensing, and you can’t help but wrap her in your arms once more.
“Yeah. But I promise we’re all going to do everything we can to keep him away from you, okay? Just make sure Mike and Dustin leave the house really quickly,”
“Okay,” she nods.
You lean back so you can look into her eyes. “I’ll meet up with you later today, alright? I promise. But you need to help Mike and Dustin on your own first.”
“You go where?”
“I need to go help some other people now, and then we’re all going to meet up together, alright? I will see you later.”
“You promise,” she states.
“That’s right, I do,” You smile at her, giving her one last hug before leaving her in her hiding place. As much as it kills you to leave her, she needs to do this on her own. The situation with Lucas has knocked her confidence. She needs to know that her powers can do good.
Your trek over to the police station takes you through town. In the parking lot of the furniture store, you spot a familiar looking car, with a familiar looking boy sulking while sat on the hood. You look at the town clock—do you have time for this? Just because Steve was one of your favourite characters, doesn’t mean you can ignore your responsibilities every time you see him- you need to be at the police station pretty soon. You look over again at the dejected figure, who seems  to be making a tremendous effort to try and fade out of existence.
God damn it.
“Steve!” you call out, jogging over. “You look like hell,”
He stays quiet for long enough that it starts to worry you. He just holds his rapidly warming can of soda to his face and stares at the ground. Eventually, you hop up onto the hood of his car next to him, and sit in silence until he’s ready.
“I think I fucked up,” he eventually says.
“Want to talk about it?” you ask, gently.
“No. I just want—” he breaks off, running a frustrated hand through his hair. “I just- do you ever wish you were someone else? Like, a completely different person? I don’t know. It’s stupid,”
“It’s not stupid, I get it. Like you could just wipe the slate clean and start over, right?”
“Exactly,” he turns to you, finally making eye contact. His face looks even worse up close. “I just think I’ve fucked this all up, y’know? And if I were a different person, I could do it all differently. Do it better,”
“Why can’t you things differently while still being you?” you ask, encouraging him to get to the root of what he’s saying.
“Because! I’m me and everyone knows me. Everyone knows who Steve Harrington is,” He says his own name with venom.
“And who is Steve Harrington?”
He goes quiet again before responding. “An asshole.”
God he makes your heart break sometimes. You shuffle closer to him on the hood so you can lean into his shoulder. He always seemed like a touchy person on the show, and you hope that it will help ground him. The way he sags into your side seems to prove you right.
“I’ll admit,” You start, “You’ve done some pretty asshole-ish things. Was the graffiti on the marquee you?”
“Tommy,” He replies, “But I agreed. I had him stand on my shoulders so he could do it,”
“That sucks. I bet that really hurt Nancy.”
“Just because someone hurts me, I don’t have to hurt them back twice as bad, right?” he mutters darkly.
“Right,” you respond, a little surprised that he remembered what you said. “So what are you doing to fix it?”
“What?”
“You say you’re an asshole, but you’re just a person. A person who is making asshole-ish actions maybe—” you nudge him with a smirk and are happy to see him crack a little smile back, “—but you can choose to be different whenever you like.”
“It's not that easy!”
“It really, really is.” You put every ounce of sincerity you can manage into your words, watching Steve consider them. He fusses with his hair anxiously, hesitation lingering around him.
“People will- they’ll say things.”
“People like… Tommy and Carol?”
He hesitates another moment, then nods.
“Fuck Tommy and Carol!” you say, making him burst into a shocked laugh. “Who cares what those two miserable bitches think. Don’t let them drag you down with them.”
“They’re my only real friends…” Steve all but whispers, as if it's a shameful secret.
“They don’t seem like very ‘real’ friends to me,” you say firmly. “I’ve never had many friends either. I know it's scary to turn your back on them, but you’ll make more friends. Better friends,”
“You never had many friends?” Steve stares at you, aghast.
“Not the point I was trying to make, but yeah. I was alone for most of school.”
“But, why? You’re so nice,”
“I was bullied a lot. Most people didn’t want to be seen with me after that,”
“That’s stupid. They didn’t know what they were missing,” Steve says, with such seriousness that you almost believe it yourself.
“You’re sweet. Now stop trying to change the subject,” You shove him gently, making him laugh again. “You want to be a different person? Then make different choices.”
“I don’t know how,” he replies honestly.
“You’re smart, you’ll figure it out. But I’ll give you a hint. Spray paint is real annoying to scrub off a marquee,” You slide off the car and give him a smile. “I need to go, but I’ll see you around, yeah?”
Steve looks into your eyes with a small smile playing on his lips. “Yeah, see you around Y/n.”
—
Your conversation with Steve seems to have delayed you perfectly: from across the street you can see Hopper, Joyce, Barb, Nancy, and Jonathan bundled into the car, clearly arguing. Arguing about where the kids might be and how to find them. An argument you can put an end to.
You rap your knuckles on the window, making them all jump.
“Hey, let me in!” you call through the glass.
“Y/n?” Jonathan questions, not opening the door.
“Let her in kid, she knows everything,” Hopper says. Jonathan does and you squeeze into the already crowded backseat. “So, where are they?” he asks.
“Junkyard, but we’ll need to warn them we’re coming,” you say. Jonathan, Nancy and Barb look at you in astonishment. You’ll need to catch them up to speed.
“How are we supposed to warn them?” Joyce asks.
You pull out the walkie-talkie you took from under Will’s bed two nights ago and smile.
Once you’re close enough to the junkyard to be in range, you start talking. It's only you and Hopper left in the car, the others being dropped off at the Byers’ house to leave space for the kids.
“Hey. This is Y/n, from the arcade,” You speak into the walkie. “El, do you remember what I told you before I sent you to the quarry? About how we’d meet up later? I’m here with Chief Hopper. I know where you guys are and we’re heading there now. I’m not going to say where in case they can listen in, but Eleven knows that I’m telling the truth. We need you to meet with us when we call, okay? Do you copy?”
Silence. For 4, 5 seconds, then—
“This is Mike. We copy,”
You sag in relief. “See you soon, stay hidden until you hear us call, okay? And Dustin, this is not a Lando Calrissian situation!”
Hopper insists on you staying in the car while he takes out the three lab agents prowling the junkyard. You almost protest, but stop yourself. Those guys have real guns! You don’t have plot armor! You keep your head ducked below the dashboard until Hopper gives you a wave to let you know it’s safe.
You hop out the car and lead Hopper straight over to the abandoned school bus, knocking on the side of it.
“This is Y/n and Hopper! You’re safe to come out!” you call. The kids come scrambling out of their hiding places, looking at you and Hopper with wide, suspicious eyes.
Except for El. She immediately runs up to you, before awkwardly stopping. She looks up at you, looks at your arms, and shifts in place. Oh. She wants a hug.
You crouch down and wrap her in your arms, hearing her exhale in relief.
“You promised,” she says.
“I did. Me and the Chief are here to take you guys somewhere safe,” you say. “Well… safer, at least.”
“How do you know El?” Mike squares up with you, eyes narrowed.
“And how did you know about Lando?” Dustin adds, as if that is of equal importance.
You turn to Mike. “Where do you think she slept last night? I fetched her from the woods and we had a lovely girl’s night.”
Mike looks abashed, knowing he was the one who scared her off into the woods.
You turn to Dustin. “That one is a little harder to explain. Come on, we’ll talk back at the house,”
“So you’re from the future?” Dustin shouts in excitement.
“More like a parallel universe? But kind of, yeah.” you reply.
“Do we have flying cars yet?”
“No.”
“A Mars colony?”
“No.”
“Holograms?”
“No.”
“What about—”
“Enough!” Hopper yells, silencing the room. “Now that we’re all on the same page, what do we do next?” he asks, making everyone stare at you.
“Well… in the show El tries to contact Will here, but doesn’t have enough power. So everyone goes to the middle school to make a sensory deprivation bath to help her,”
“Why the middle school?” Lucas asks.
“We need the de-icing salt to make the water buoyant enough. You filled the Byers’ old kiddie pool,” At your words, Joyce leaves the room to go fetch it.
“Why do we even need to do this? Can’t you just tell us where he is?” Jonathan asks, frustrated. He hasn’t made full eye contact with you since you admitted you knew Will was going to be taken, hands clenched by his side.
“He was eventually found at the library in the version of the story I know. But do we know if that’s changed? If I tell you to go to the library and I’m wrong, you could get killed by the demogorgon before you ever reach him. We need to be sure.” you say firmly.
Glancing at Barb, you continue: “Besides, I’ve made changes in this world. I don’t know if that will change where he’s found.”
“What kind of changes?” Nancy asks.
You had tidily avoided mentioning your interference with Barb’s death in your original recap, focusing on Will’s disappearance and how you knew about it, but you suppose you were going to have to answer this question eventually.
“Barbara,” you say, looking at her cautiously. “You were going to be attacked by the demogorgon that night at Steve’s house, by the pool. I lured it away.”
“Attacked…” Barb repeats, sensing the hidden meaning in your words. You give her a guilty half-smile.
“You fought that thing?” Dustin asks, wide eyed.
“Less ‘fought’ and more ‘biked away from it while crying’, but yeah,” you respond, ducking your head.
“She told me about why Lonnie was really here, too,” Joyce adds, throwing down the old kiddie pool and rejoining the group. “Helped me find his damn lawyer pamphlet so I could kick him out after the wake.”
“Lawyer pamphlet?” Jonathan repeats.
Joyce looks at him guiltily. “He wanted to sue the quarry. That’s why he came back,”
Jonathan ducks his head, hiding his anger, and you watch Nancy place a hand on his back in comfort.
“We need to move, we have the pool. Let's go,” Hopper says, making everyone stand up and herd into the various cars.
You end up in a car with most of the kids and Hopper. El stays stuck to your side, and Mike stays stuck to hers. Dustin and Lucas have a brief argument over who else gets to ride with you before Hopper yells at them to hurry up and Dustin scurries off in defeat.
“You guys ever wanted to break into your middle school?” You turn back in your seat to ask them, making the boys’ eyes light up.
At the school, Barb pulls you away from the group. You’re on the hunt for duct tape to help black-out some goggles that Joyce had found in the science room.
“So… I’m supposed to be dead,” she starts as she leads you towards a maintenance closet.
“That’s what happens in the show.” you say nervously, unsure of where she might be going with this.
“How does it happen?” she asks.
“I’m not sure if I should-”
“Just tell me,” she says bluntly, cutting you off and staring you down.
You sigh. “Nancy and Steve go upstairs to dry off after jumping in the pool. You say you’re not having fun, Nancy tells you to leave. You go out and sit by the pool and the blood from where you cut yourself attracts the demogorgon. It drags you to the Upside Down and you’re dead within minutes.”
It’s not a fun story to tell.
“Just like that?” Barb asks.
“Just like that,” You confirm. “Nancy goes off the deep end trying to get answers. She investigates the woods, she talks to the police, she does everything she can to try and find you. In the show, El isn’t just in the bath to try and contact Will. She tries to contact you, too,”
“But I’m dead,” Barb concludes, clearly upset. “How come Will can be saved but I can’t?”
“I don’t know. The demogorgon kills most of the people it takes. Will just got lucky,”
“So it isn’t just me?”
“What do you mean?”
“It isn’t just me that gets killed. I’m not the only one who couldn’t survive it,”
Ah. That’s what this is about. You stop walking and face her properly.
“Barb, this thing is a killing machine. The fact that Will has survived this long is the exception, not the rule. Two hunters, Dale and Henry, were killed by this thing a few days ago. Two grown men, probably both armed, and they couldn’t fight this thing. You’re not weak for dying to it.”
She sighs and leans against the corridor wall.
“I saw it. That night when I was meant to die. I was getting into my car when I felt like something was watching me. It made my lights go out, chased me along the side of the road for almost a mile,” she stops and chokes a breath, trying to calm down. “I was so scared, I was crying but I didn’t want to pull over in case it caught up,”
She puts her head in her hands, taking deep breaths. You put a hand on her arm in comfort.
“I don’t know how I’m supposed to do this,” she says. “Knowing that that thing is out there. I’m not even supposed to be here, how am I supposed to help?”
“If it helps, I’m not supposed to be here either,” you murmur, at a loss on what to say.
She huffs out a bitter laugh. “Why didn’t you just run?” she asks. “You could have just kept your head down and not gotten involved, no one would blame you,”
“The same reason you’re not running, I suppose,” you reply quietly.
The two of you stare at each other for several moments, before she gives you a nod and continues walking down the hall to the maintenance closet.
“Are you coming?” she calls over her shoulder to you.
You jog to catch up, feeling like you’ve achieved a kinship with the girl.

"You want to kill Eddie?!" Nancy and Steve exclaimed.
Nancy and Steve stood in Hopper's cabin, staring at Hop in disbelief.
"Look, it's not ideal, but - "
"Going bald isn't ideal," Steve scoffed. "Killing Eddie after everything he's done for us: died for us, killed Vecna for us. . . This is beyond fucked. Jesus, no wonder you didn't want the kids here."
"He's a monster," Hopper said.
"He's still Eddie! Nothing about that's changed. He still has his mind. There's nothing controlling him anymore. Even when he was being controlled, he didn't even kill anyone," Nancy said. "He just gets a little thirsty for blood every now and then. Dr. Owens said he would be willing to set up something so he'd get blood delivered to him."
"It's basically a blood transfusion," Steve said. "He just drinks it."
"After everything that happened, with the town literally split down the middle, are you really willing to risk more lives for the slight chance that he wouldn't hurt someone?" Hopper asked.
"And are you really so blood thirsty that you would be willing to kill a man?" Nancy snapped. "Mike loves him, looks up to him. He was devastated when he heard he had died, and when he saw he was back. . .I'm not going to let you take that away from again. El has more kills under her belt, and I don't see you fighting to put her down."
"That's different," Hopper said softly.
"Is it?" Steve asked.
"Fine, but I'm not going to be the one responsible for him," Hopper growled.
"Fine! Steve and I will look out for him," Nancy said, her nostrils flaring.
"We will?" Steve asked, and Nancy gave him a look. "I mean, we will!"
Nancy grabbed his hand, glared at Hopper, and pulled Steve out of the cabin. It was strange seeing the sun again after months of it being hidden by a red sky. Jonathan was leaning against the railing, and he stared at their joined hands. Steve almost wanted to gloat. After wedging himself in between Steve and Nancy's relationship, he deserved it, especially since Steve tried to make friends with Jonathan during those months that Steve had been with Nancy after their first encounter with the Upside Down. That would be petty of Steve, and he still wasn't sure if he was with Nancy or not or if Nancy had broken up with Jonathan.
"I think maybe Hopper's right, Nance," Jonathan said.
"You want to kill him too," Nancy said in disbelief.
"Eddie died. And now there's something I don't know, reanimating his body. It needs blood. It was capable of taking on Vecna," Jonathan said. "It's strong. We should take it out before it takes us out while it's still weak. The town can't take any more monsters."
"His name is Eddie, not it. Eddie fucking Munson," Steve said.
"I get why you're worried. I do, but honestly, it's just fucking stupid how you're coming up with the solution," Nancy said. "It's a solution. Not the solution."
"I just want this to be over. For mom, for Hopper. For El. For Will!" Jonathan exclaimed.
"And how's Will going to feel knowing we didn't do anything to help Eddie?" Nancy asked.
"Man, your mom did everything to get Will free from the Mind Flayer. The only difference here is that Eddie's not possessed," Steve said. "He's still Eddie."
"How do you know, man?" Jonathan asked.
"I feel it in my gut, I just know," Steve said.
"If you get Nancy killed. . . "
"Nancy can make her own decisions, and nothing can stop her making them. She can also speak for herself. That was just a momentary lapse on my part," Steve said, and Nancy giggled.
"Whatever," Jonathan said.
"Steve, do you want to wait in the car? I have to talk to Jonathan," Nancy said.
"Sure, Nance," Steve said.
Steve walked to Nancy's car and leaned against it, waiting for her to finish talking. It went on for a while, and finally, they hugged. When they got done, Hopper came out and briefly spoke to Nancy. When she came back, her eyes were slightly red. He wanted to ask if she was okay, and part of it was for his own selfish reasons. He wanted to know if she ended it with him. Steve shook his head and climbed into the car.
"I think I might know where he might be," Nancy said.
"Where?" Steve asked.
"His old lot on Philadelphia. The house itself had burned down, and they recently finished putting a new house there. At least, that's what Hopper told me," she said. "No one's bought the place yet."
"Let's go," Steve said eagerly.
They drove in silence, leaving each other to their thoughts. Eventually, they pulled up to a modest one story dark blue house. It looked very new. Nancy cut the engine, took off her seatbelt, and shifted in her seat to look at him.
"I ended things with Jonathan," Nancy said.
"Yeah?" Steve perked up.
"Yeah. I just - it never should have started in the first place. I could say that it was my grief over Barb that drove me into his arms, but the truth is that it was my own stupidity that did it. I was lost, and I couldn't see the roads in front of me, and I didn't know which path to take," she said. "The truth is, though. . . "
"Yeah?"
"It's always been you, Steve," Nancy said softly.
She moved forward at the same time that he did, and their lips met in the middle. It felt differently than all the other times that he kissed her. It honestly felt so much better. The kiss didn't last very long, but it was very sweet. Steve looked at her, the soft smile on her face and the light in her eyes. . .it was because of him. He needed to be honest here.
"I need to be honest with you now, Nance, Eddie Munson's kind of gotten under my skin in a way that I didn't expect," Steve said. "And I'm not sure what to do about it."
"Yeah, for me too," Nancy said.
"So, you felt it too?" He asked.
"Felt what?" She asked.
"Uh. . . The attraction towards him," Steve said.
"What?! Oh, uh, yeah, I didn't realize that you also like guys," Nancy said.
"It's a new thing, actually," Steve blushed. "Or something that's always been there, I don't know. Still figuring it out, I guess."
"I want to be with you, Steve, all of you. I really want to do that. I do want to take things slow, though. I think we need to get to know each other all over again, and if Eddie's up for then, maybe we both get to know him too," Nancy said.
"All three of us?" Steve asked.
"Yeah."
"I'd like that," Steve said and Nancy laughed. "What?"
"I was just thinking of Eddie's collecting lost sheep thing. I think I have a type. You like to do that too," Nancy said. "It's very cute."
Steve and Nancy approached the front door. They attempted to open but found it to be locked. Nancy immediately pulled out a bobby pin.
"You know how to pick locks?" Steve asked.
"Yeah, Eddie told me how to," Nancy said.
"He showed me how to hotwire cars," Steve said with a grin.
"Hm, I wonder what other naughty things he could teach us," Nancy grinned.
Suddenly, the door unlocked, and it flew open. Eddie stood as far from the doorway as possible, staying away from the sunlight.
"Oh, so many things, Wheeler," Eddie said. "Come on in. Hmm. Weird thing for a vampire to say to humans."
Steve and Nancy entered the unfurnished house, closing the door behind them. They took in his appearance. He looked weak and pale, nothing like when they last saw him. He was still wearing the clothes he died in. He slumped against the wall and slid to the floor.
"Eddie. . . Have you eaten?" Nancy asked.
"I kind of been afraid. It's probably better this way. Waste away to nothing," Eddie mumbled.
"Don't say that! Why would you say that?" Nancy asked.
"Because it's bad enough being a human freak. Now, I'm a vampire? I was hunted by the entire town before this. What do you think they're going to do to me if they find out that I'm a monster?!" Eddie cried.
"You're not a monster. You just get a little thirsty for blood every once in a while," Steve said. "I mean, do you want to go on a bloodthirsty murderous rampage?"
"Well, no. My stomachs just a little growly like if I skipped a few meals which I have," Eddie said. "But what if they changes? What if I hurt someone?"
"Well, if that happens, then we'll put you down like the dog that you are," Steve quipped.
"Steve!" Nancy exclaimed, but Eddie just burst into laughter.
"We'll cross that bridge, but right now, you need to eat. Let's go get you an animal or something," Steve said. "What animal do you hate the most?"
"He needs to eat right now," Nancy said.
She pulled a pocket knife out of her boot and flicked it open. She rolled up her sleeve and cut into her arm. Nancy held out her arm to him, and he looked at them both doubtfully. She rolled her eyes, grabbed the back of his head, and moved his head until his lips were pressed against her skin. Steve watched as Eddie's eyes turned red as he sunk his teeth into her arm. Nancy stroked his hair gently as she gazed at him affectionately. She bit her lip, and her eyes darkened. Oh, this was turning her on. Right, right. Don't look at them. Think about something else. Jonathan's hair. Jonathan's hair. Oops, now he was thinking about Argyle and his hair. Turn it around, turn it around. Suddenly, Eddie pulled off Nancy's arm with a loud pop. He used his tongue to lap up the blood. Nancy looked at her arm in surprise.
"He healed the wound!" Nancy exclaimed. "Wonder what else you can do with your tongue?"
She shared a look with Steve while Eddie sat there looking confused.
"I'm still a little hungry, but I didn't want to take too much from you, Nancy," Eddie admitted, ignoring what she had just said.
"Well, take some from me then," Steve said as he sat down next to him.
"Big boy wants a turn," Eddie said in amusement.
Nancy cleaned her knife and handed it to Steve. He made a cut on his arm and held it out for Eddie. He leaned down and bit into Steve’s arm. Steve gasped. It wasn't as painful as he thought it was going to be with Eddie's fangs piercing his skin. In fact, he could see why it had turned Nancy on. He was starting to feel something, too. Jonathan's hair. Jonathan's hair. Yeah, that seemed to do the trick. Eddie pulled off with another pop and licked his wound. Eddie looked at them in confusion.
"Why do you guys look like you want to eat me? I'm supposed to be the vampire here, right?" Eddie asked with a frown, and then he tilted his head, his eyes wide. "Your hearts are racing awfully fast. Do you guys like me or something? . . . Jesus H Christ! You like me?! Why?!"
"There are lots of good reasons," Nancy said with a smile.
"Yeah, you guys are a couple of freaks," Eddie said with a grin.
"Thank God!" They exclaimed and Eddie laughed.
"Okay, I need a shower and a change of clothes, I fucking stink," Eddie said.
"My place then," Steve said with a smile.
With the help of a blanket from Nancy's car, they helped Eddie out of the house. As soon as they got to Steve’s house and he showed him where the bathroom, Eddie immediately peeled off his clothes. He tossed them out of the bathroom and closed the door. Steve and Nancy managed to catch a glimpse of his ass before he shut it.
"You can toss the clothes!" Eddie yelled. "I can get new ones! Not the wallet!"
Once Steve threw the clothes away, he left a pair of sweats and t shirt in the bathroom and waited in the kitchen with Nancy. When Eddie came down, he was only wearing the sweats, and his hair was dripping wet.
"God, I feel so much better," Eddie said and shook water droplets at them.
"Eddie!" Nancy shrieked.
He grinned as he wedged himself up behind them, wrapping his arms around their waists.
"Just so you know, I like you too," Eddie said. "Both of you."
Steve and Nancy grinned at each other. Eddie spotted the scar around Steve’s neck and frowned. He tilted Steve’s head up to get a better look at it and made a curious noise with his mouth.
"What?" Steve asked.
"I wonder if I can heal scars?" Eddie asked.
He leaned down and started licking his neck. He placed himself firmly behind Steve and pulled the other man flush against him. He bent down and began working on his neck, licking a long stripe against Steve’s skin. Eddie grinned when Steve shuddered. He continued to lick and nip even after it was healed.
"Eddie, it's all healed up now," Nancy said, smiling, and Eddie made a muffled noise. "Okay, I guess this is officially happening."
She moved herself in front of Steve and started kissing the other side of his neck.
"Oh, fuck," Steve cursed.
Eddie ran his hands up Steve’s sides, his hands disappearing under his shirt. He started to raise the material up while Nancy's hands went to Steve’s belt. Eddie had gotten his arms out of the shirt and was just about to get the thing over his head when the door to the kitchen opened. The shirt was being held over his face so Steve couldn't see a thing, but he heard Robin's voice.
"Hey, Steve, what's the verdict on Eddie - what the fuck?!" Robin exclaimed.
"Hey, Robin," Steve said casually. "What are you up to? Me? I'm not doing anything."
"Not yet," Eddie said.
"You know what? I'll come back later. Call me when you're done," Robin chuckled nervously. "Hm, maybe Steve is right. Maybe I should call first before I come over."
"I am right!" Steve exclaimed. "This proves it!"
Eddie laughed and freed Steve from his shirt, tossing it on the floor. Steve smirked at Nancy.
"What happened to taking things slow and getting to know each other?" Steve asked.
"We'll slow down after," Nancy said.
"Besides, getting to know your body counts. I mean, what if we go blind and Nancy suddenly forgets what your body looks like," Eddie said.
"As silly as it sounds, he's right," Nancy said in amusement. "Seize the day and all that."
And seize the day they did. . .several times. Turns out a vampire's stamina was through the roof. Steve was lying on his back, staring happily at the ceiling as Eddie and Nancy cuddled up against him on either side.
"Hmm, look at us, we're like a couple of nerdy bookends cuddling up to the handsomenest jock with the biggest heart in all the land," Eddie murmured sleepily.
"Hmm," Nancy agreed, her eyes closed. "This does feel right."
Steve smiled, drifting off to sleep, feeling completely safe with Eddie and Nancy in his arms. He felt like he could take on anything.
