New year, new me. You told yourself the same thing at the beginning of each school year.
Although it was usually just said on New Year’s Eve in preparations for the brand new year, you felt it applied to starting a new semester as well: new classes, new teachers, new schedule, new routine. It was also the beginning of your senior year of college, your last first day of school ever. So in a way, you were preparing for something new. You’d graduate before you knew it and then adulthood would creep up on you.
But you could hardly wait to see what the next two semesters would bring you in the meantime.
You made sure to leave your apartment early to stop at your favorite coffee stand in the student center. Waving at your friend Qi’Ra behind the counter, you got yourself in line and replied to your mom and sister’s happy first day texts.
“I knew I’d find you here.”
The familiar voice of your best friend Karé made you smile and you squealed quietly as you hugged her. She had spent the night with her boyfriend Snap after being out of town the last week before school, so you hadn’t seen her after you moved in.
“I’ve missed you! How was your vacation?”
“Awesome as usual. Weather was amazing, we spent everyday out on the water. Snap’s sunburn is finally starting to heal.”
“God yeah, you sent me that picture of his back…that looked awful.”
She nodded. “He was all ‘oh, there’s lots of clouds in the sky, it’s not going to be that bad’ and now I get to hold this over him for the rest of his life.”
You laughed as she rolled her eyes as you finally got to the counter. Qi’Ra already knew your order by heart and, like the first day of every new semester, she gave you your drink free of charge. She whipped it up right away, handing it to you with the promise of getting together soon. You and Karé walked outside, the bright sunshine making your drink sweat and the both wish you didn’t have to spend the next couple hours stuck inside.
“So, how’s the stuff with your dad going?”
You shrugged. “If I had spoken to him at all since he walked out, I’d have something to tell you.”
Karé’s shoulders slumped. “No…seriously?”
You sighed and nodded as you stirred your drink.
“Not one word. I told you my uncle came by a few days after he left to tell us he was okay?” Karé nodded. “A couple of weeks went by and the next thing I know, he’s filing for divorce. But he hasn’t actually talked to Tallie and I.”
“Y/N, I’m so sorry…”
You sighed heavily and shook your head. “It’s whatever. Nothing I can do. Haven’t talked to him since and he abandoned us for his secretary so I don’t plan on talking to him at all.”
Karé nodded slowly and reached over and squeezed your arm and you gave her a small smile of appreciation.
“Anyway…what class are you off to first?”
“My advanced math class.” You made a face and she chuckled. “Yeah, you’re not jealous at all, are you?”
“Not even a little bit.”
“What about you?”
“Oh, I get to start out my day with my half semester class…three hours, twice a week, tons of homework.”
“Fun. Who’s your professor?”
You grabbed your phone from your pocket, bringing up your schedule and looking at the details.
“Uhhh, Dameron. Heard of him?”
“I think he’s one of the newer teachers here.”
“Well, hopefully he’s good.” You took a sip of your drink and checked the time on your phone. “Guess I’ll go find out.”
“See you later, then.”
Karé gave you a quick hug and you walked in opposite directions. You walked to the building of your classroom and though you were grateful for the air conditioning, you hoped that since it was the first day you’d be let out early. The sun was out, flowers were still blooming along the sidewalks despite the late season. Fall semester was always the one you dreaded the most…stuck inside staring at four blank walls during your favorite kind of weather.
The classroom was on the third level, which meant minimal traffic in the halls and big windows that showed a great view of campus. The blinds were open, allowing sunlight to flood into the room and making it that much more welcoming. A few students were already seated and the professor nowhere in sight but his stuff at his desk. You made your way into the room, not finding a friend yet, and walked to a seat right around the middle of the room. You took your things out and waited and scrolled through three different social media apps as more students trickled in. Your name was called and you looked up and saw a girl you worked with the previous semester and smiled as she sat down next to you. At least you kind of knew one person in the class.
“Alright, let’s get started.”
One glance up at the source of the voice was not enough as you practically did a double take. Your professor was an extremely handsome man. Dark hair sat on top of his head in a mess of curls that laid just between styled and unruly. You could see from your seat that his eyes were dark…brown, maybe. He was young; you guessed that he couldn’t be more than thirty-five. As he came around from behind his desk, you took notice of the way his dark blue jeans fit snugly around big thighs. His sleeves were pushed up to show off tan forearms and as he leaned back against his desk, he crossed his arms in front of his broad chest.
“Good morning, everyone.” Three simple words grabbed the attention of every girl in class. “I’m Professor Dameron. I hope you all had a great summer. I don’t know about some of you, but I am very excited to get this semester going.”
There was some polite laughter. He was using a light, friendly tone of voice, making sure his very first impression on people wouldn’t wasn’t a bad one.
“Subject-wise, this is one of my favorite classes to teach. The only way I could get this class in this year was to teach it in half the amount of time as a normal class. I’m warning you now, this is going to be a busy class. We are fitting about fifteen weeks worth of stuff into seven weeks. Attendance is going to be very, very important.”
Some of the students visibly gulped, others nodded slowly as the realization of how much work would have to go into this class started to sink in. “Don’t worry, I will have lots of resources to help you guys. Um, just an example…I will make all of the lectures and slides available on the portal after class, including any key notes from the textbook and discussions that come up during class. That being said, you still need to attend class. I’ll go over more of this when we go through the syllabus.”
You admired him as he spoke. The hint of smile on his face showed his excitement for the class and the new semester. His voice was smooth like honey and you were sure you could listen to him spout off the most boring stuff in the world and not tire of it.
“First things first…attendance.” He turned to grab his clipboard and you and the girl next to you both checked out his ass. “In lied of just calling your names, we’re going to do an icebreaker.”
The collection of heavy sighs made him chuckle lightly. “I know, I know…they’re not always fun and you’ll probably do a whole bunch more after today. Personally, I like to get to know my students. We’ll be spending a lot of time together this semester and the more comfortable you feel talking to me, the more open you’ll be to telling me what you need to help you succeed in this class. So, let’s do it and get it over with. Tell me your name, something fun you did over the summer, your favorite type of music and…what do you think? Favorite color? Favorite animal? “Let’s do favorite animal.”
Glancing around, you saw people look anywhere but at their teacher, hoping they wouldn’t catch his eye and make them go first.
“Alright, come on guys, you’re acting like I’m going to pull your teeth out. I’ll go first. My name is Poe, this summer I visited my dad in Colorado where I grew up and saw friends that live on both coasts. I’m a big fan of classic rock but catch me jamming to a pop song every now and then…” That got some laughs from the class and he laughed with them. “Seriously, anything by the Weeknd.”
“The Weeknd has a lot of songs about sex,” the girl next to you whispered and you nearly choked as you took a sip out of your water bottle.
“And my favorite animal is a dog. Alright, let’s start in the back.”
One by one students introduced themselves. He asked questions about their summer jobs and their summer vacations, genuinely interested in the details and making them feel comfortable talking to him. A couple of people named weird animals as their favorite, such as lizards and dinosaurs, that spurred further discussions and got the class completely off track. It was all fun and games until you got to your row and you counted how many people were before you and practiced what you would say in your head.
“Okay, um, I’m Y/N…” Poe looked at the attendance list, finding your name and marking you down in attendance. “I didn’t do anything super special over the summer, just worked my two jobs and went to the cabin with friends and family. I like pretty much any kind of music, as long as it’s got a good beat I don’t really care what genre it is…though I am a sucker for pop music sometimes. And my favorite animal is an elephant.”
Poe cracked a smile and you let out a quiet sigh of relief as the girl next to you introduced herself. As social as you were, you still hated speaking in front of a classroom full of people.
“Okay, see? That wasn’t so bad.” Poe teased as the last person finished speaking. A few people laughed and you smiled. Almost an hour into class and you already knew this would be one of the classes you’d look forward to the most. “Let’s start going over the syllabus. I’ll have you pass these down and I’ll bring it up on the screen here…”
He handed a stack of papers to a student in the front row and they started passing them down. Poe went back around his desk and connected his laptop to the projector. The desktop image of a Corgi laying in the grass with a toy appeared and you along with half the girls in the class let out not subtle aww’s.
“That’s my dog, Beebs.” Poe smiled sheepishly when he noticed the screen had popped up.
“How old is he?” One of the girls from the back asked.
“He’s probably three, three and a half…I rescued him as a puppy so I’m not too sure.”
More aww’s filled the room as he brought the syllabus up onto the screen. You grabbed one when it reached you and passed it along and a quick glance through the five pages showed the class schedule and detailed expectations. When everyone had a copy, he started going over it, talking about the schedule in extreme detail and laying out what a typical class day would look like.
Poe finished up the syllabus and gave you a fifteen minute break before diving into the first chapter. His teaching style was the dream, the way that every teacher should teach: not too fast, not too slow, answering every single question before moving on, and making sure everyone was keeping up.
Despite it being a three hour class, you no longer dreaded it…you knew that Poe would do as much as he could to help you all succeed.
“Alright, homework for Thursday: chapter two, print out the study guide and start working on it. We’ll finish our chapter one discussion then as well. You’re good to go.”
You gathered up your things, shoving them into your backpack and checking the time to see you had just enough to grab something to eat before your next class. You had just reached the top of the stairs when you realized you hadn’t put your water bottle into your backpack. Letting out an annoyed groan, you doubled back up the stairs towards your classroom. You snuck in past a couple of students that were just leaving and beelined for your desk, making Poe look up at you.
“Sorry, forgot my water bottle.”
You found it tucked under your seat and grabbed it, giving him a small smile as you passed to head back out the door.
“Why elephant?”
Looking back at him, you saw an easy smile on his face. “Sorry?”
“You said your favorite animal was an elephant. Usually it’s household pets or animals that live in the forest…or apparently lizards and t-rex’s. Why elephant?”
You shrugged with a nervous smile. “I, um…I don’t know. I just think they’re beautiful and strong and they roll around in the mud and water and act like such babies…baby elephants actually suck on their trunks like babies suck on their fingers—“
“Do they?” You blushed hard, feeling like you just made a fool of yourself. “So you don’t just think they’re cute…you’re practically an expert on them?”
His tone wasn’t teasing like you expected, but instead curious at the knowledge you shared.
“No, I actually saw that on one of those random Facebook videos.”
A heartfelt laugh erupted from his chest and you laughed with him.
“I know what you’re talking about,” he said as he continued packing up his bag. “They’re those videos that are on random pages you liked years ago or from a news source…I’ve actually found some good recipes from them.”
“So you know. Random but good information.”
He nodded and you felt your phone buzz in your hand. You looked down at it and saw a message and noticed the time.
“I should go, um I have class…I’ll see you around, Mr. Dameron.”
You gave him a small wave and internally cringed at yourself as you headed towards the door, the flush of embarrassment in your face.
It was going to be an interesting semester.

Dear Swamp-Ass... (Pink Lemonade Pt.2)
I was tempted to give up on today and use some of my backup, but I suppose it’s too early to expose y’all to such cursed content. Let’s just wrap this one up.
6. Dinosaur Boss Battle
Dear Swamp-Ass…
(huh? That’s how we’re starting this one?)
Dinosaur Boss Battle, as its name suggests, is about luddite dinosaurs in a war with cyborgs who are after their bones. Well, the name doesn’t suggest that much, but that’s actually what’s going on here, with the Fool just kinda having this explained to him and being told to get the hell out of dodge. It’s an alternate timeline neither he nor us were expecting, and he manages to escape just as a big ol’ bomb annihilates the last of the dinosaurs, sending him spiralling once again through dimensions.
Sonically, Dinosaur Boss Battle feels a lot like a somewhat chiller equivalent to Pink Lemonade or Neoprene Byzantine, with more use of backing vocals that works really well in its favour. The slower, quieter moments of the song work really well, in particular the…bridge? The bit where everything cuts off and we mostly just have reverb and vocals (“Wanna see my prized pterodactyl?”) that builds into one of the most energetic parts of the song, with the backing vocals at their peak. The last minute of the song is also excellent, with the instruments again cutting back to let the final, almost spoken word, lyrics settle in, before a big, swaggering finale with the bass maintaining a constant rhythm as the lead guitar just kinda goes apeshit.
7. Mauerbauertraurigkeit
I looked it up, and that’s not a real word. Rather, it’s a made-up phrase from the dictionary of obscure sorrows, describing “the inexplicable urge to push people away, even close friends you really like”. Fittingly, the song is a lament about the Fool’s relationship with Verina, realizing his mistake in pushing her away and his loneliness floating through the space between worlds. It’s the most emotional song on the album, feeling as out of place and stranded as the lyrics imply. The vocals are really carrying the track, a subtle echo lending them an emptiness that makes the regret feel all the more real. The instrumentation is sparce, a loose, with a strangely tempo’d percussion and light guitar that eventually crescendos into an outpouring of emotion, before the quiet riffs of the song return to clean everything up. A syncopated (I think that’s what that word means) drumbeat eventually is the only thing that remains, steadily becoming more synthetic and oppressive before fading away as the church bells introducing the next track.
8. Church of the Technochrist
The other single from the album, and probably a better representative of the whole deal than Seeds of Gold. Church of the Technochrist, despite the name, is not Christian Rock, and we’re all thankful for it.
youtube
(I haven’t actually watched/listened to this video as of writing, but I understand it’s pretty different to the album version, so keep that in mind)
In fact, the tune is basically a rocking initiation to a cult that doesn’t exist, promising and seducing with a back and forth between the preacher and the Fool, who’s doubt is questioned by sinister backing vocals. Like many of the tracks on the album, Church of the Technochrist is a psychedelic energetic banger, that steadily builds into an explosive climax- in this case, the final ravings of the preacher- and does an excellent job of doing so. This build, however, is interrupted by a slow section, in this case representative of the Fool’s realisation that the Church isn’t quite what he thought he was getting into, aborting the upload process midway and sending him once again into isolation as he is rejected by the church he turned his back on. To be fair, brain uploading religions don’t tend to go well from the fiction I’ve seen. I don’t have as much to write on this one, but it’s a banger, and probably the track to listen to on its own if you want a taste of what this album sounds like as a whole.
9. Beckon Fire
Like Mauerbauertraurigkeit before it, Beckon Fire is a sombre track, easily the most downtempo tune in the package. It’s not really one I’d listen to outside of the context of the album at large, however. It’s mostly just fuzzed-out vocals over a simple repetitive loop, supported by what I assume are strings, and I will admit a soft spot for sad strings TM in my rock songs. Calling this a rock song my be a stretch, but despite this it doesn’t feel unnatural in the listing. Actually, as I listen to it while writing this, I find myself appreciating it more than ever, and I can’t quite explain why.
Plotwise, this is the Fool’s final lament. He’s stuck in a desert wasteland, wandering, realising the mistakes of his delusional quest for enlightenment, and finally accepting the death that the desert brings him. Just as he’s about to die, and his despair is replaced with elation, his eyes open again aaaaaaand-
10. Happy Days
Oh, that’s a good sign. Ok so the Fool finds himself in the alley all the way back from Pink Lemonade, everything between then and now being a whole-ass trip from the eponymous hallucinogen. Before him is Verina, who he’s realised is the enlightenment he was searching for all along and rejoices as his quest is over and he’s found a way to be truly happy. This song, therefore, is the happy ending to this whole trip of an album.
This song is just a ball, feeling like the light side of the edgy coin that is most of the bigger songs of the album. It’s unrelenting positivity, with backing vocals here supporting rather than questioning or tearing down, like something you’d hear out of a Meatloaf song. Parts of the bridge, where you get both lead and backing vocals coalescing into a swelling high note, sound downright divine (she’s coming on home and I’m kissing the face of infinityyyYYYY). It’s a powerful theme that feels earned, a stark contrast to the melancholy of the previous tracks, and it feels like the perfect way to close the album- especially as the song ends with the guitar fuckery that’s the trademark of the band, but like, in a major key or something, Iunno it just sounds more positive.
11. ピンク レモネード (Pink Lemonade, but in Japanese)
Psyche, the album’s not over yet. This, however, feels more like a bonus track than anything, and the band’s vocalist has described as like the credits rolling for the album. It’s completely different to anything else on the album, being a chiptune of all things, with guest singers going off in Japanese about…uh… the story, I think? I don’t speak the language, obviously. The song itself is pretty adorable and cheery, but again I wouldn’t really put it on outside of as the finisher to the album as a whole.
The eerie last minute of the track is apparently (again, it’s in Japanese) supposed to be a bit of last-minute horror, as the Brahmatron yawns once again, revealing that even this level of reality is subject to its whims, and as time loops in on itself the singers argue in confusion about what the fuck is going on, before a final yawn ends the album like an old TV being switched off. I’m sure this would work better if I understood the conversation, but I sure don’t and I haven’t been able to find a translation anywhere, so I’m just going based on what the writer has explained it as.
As a whole, Pink Lemonade is an album that I think really represents a unique point in the genre, or clash of genres. I don’t think I’ve heard anything like it, even in Closure in Moscow’s previous work, and that would be merit enough on its own, but it helps that it’s really good. Like, I don’t know how well I communicated how much I adore this album. Top 10 for sure. Give it a listen if you think you’re up for it, and if you have already, I dunno, do it again? Or maybe listen to First Temple, their first album. They were supposed to have a new project out last year, but 2020 did 2020 things, so we’ll have to wait and see. Until then. Whenever that is.

48. if you were a fruit, what kind would you be? Rotten xD um probably a cranberry or something because I’m small, and I’m not a fan of cranberry.
49. what saying or quote do you live by? An it harm none do what you will. Or treat others as you wish to be treated.
50. what made you laugh the hardest you ever have? Probably one of the vines I listed above, either “run it past” or “can’t lift a house” because both of those resulted in crying and choking.
51. current stresses? My cat has been throwing up and having diarrhoea the past week or so, she’s been to the vet, it got better for a bit, but tonight suddenly got worse. Living with my parents who I have a very toxic relationship with. Living in a single very overfilled room. Trying to not spend money so that I can save up to move next year. Nightmares about my trauma. Either the house is haunted or there’s a build up of negative energy (probably that).
52. favorite font? I always liked the look of all of the script style fonts (freestyle, french, lucida, lucida calligraphy, Edwardian, Palace) but they’re not accessible so for anything people will actually see (which is literally nothing) I always go with arial.
53. what is the current state of your hands? Slight rash on one finger because I’m sensitive to what is in a lot of hand washing products apparently (never an issue until the pandemic), one broken finger nail that is a bit shorter than the rest. Not painted nails because energy. I always wear my engagement ring, usually I wear several other rings but with how my skin is being I thought I’d better not for a while.
54. what did you learn from your first job? Bakeries are hell, my circadian rhythm will not adjust to anything besides its natural state for longer than a couple of days at a time no matter how long or hard I try. I can absolutely fall asleep standing up.
55. favorite fairy tale? Ugly Duckling
56. favorite tradition? I don’t have anyway... Yet? Hopefully when I move this can become a thing.
57. the three biggest struggles you’ve overcome? I’m interpretting overcome loosely here, meaning “I have not died from this” - Suicide of my first love - Bullying - 3 different jobs that all nearly killed me
58. four talents you’re proud of having? Literally can’t think of one. I’m not talented. I’m passable at a couple of things, but I worked for those things and I’m still not good enough for anyone to confuse me for being talented xD Those things I care about that I’ve worked on a lot are singing, art, languages, crafts? I still struggled to come up with 4. My bad.
59. if you were a video game character, what would your catchphrase be? Aw jeez xD
60. if you were a character in an anime, what kind of anime would you want it to be? Magical Girl! This is an easy one, give me the powers and the clothes yessss.
61. favorite line you heard from a book/movie/tv show/etc.? Literally sitting here drawing a blank, so instead of favourite here is the first one that came into my head “eyes are the genitals of the head” (may have that wrong, I’m watching the Office for the first time rn)
62. seven characters you relate to? Clementine from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Amelie from Amelie Matilda from Matilda Quasimodo from the Hunchback of Notredame (also my favourite plush as a kid) Iris - The Holiday Jess - New Girl Amelia Shepherd - Grey’s Anatomy Struggled with this because suddenly I drew a blank and also couldn’t remember who my Fiance was talking about every time he’s watched a character and said “that’s you” repeatedly.
63. five songs that would play in your club? Starlight - Superman Lovers Pump It - Black Eyed Peas I Bet that You Look Good on the Dancefloor - Arctic Monkeys All the Things She Said - tATu Doctor Jones - Aqua Bonus: Push Up - Freestylers These are ones I have memories of dancing to when I was younger so that’s how I picked, but I’d absolutely be a themed night club with different music on different nights.
64. favorite website from your childhood? Neopets, which I still play daily. The first I played was MaMaMedia, then Bubblegum Club.
65. any permanent scars? That’s a SORE subject heh get it heh
66. favorite flower(s)? Lavender, rose, peony
67. good luck charms? I usually carry gemstones if I’m needing to be particularly lucky, or sigils.
68. worst flavor of any food or drink you’ve ever tried? I hate anything spicy. I had rootbeer candy that tasted like literal dirt. I can’t eat banana stuff without gagging and getting a headache. I hate anything that is artificial blackberry or blackcurrant, tastes like shitty cough syrup.
69. a fun fact that you don’t know how you learned? Sea Monkeys breathe through their feet, but I remember where I learned that.
70. left or right handed? right
71. least favorite pattern? depends entirely on the colours, I like patterns. but certain stripes do make my eyes feel funny.
72. worst subject? If PE counts, then that. If not, math.
73. favorite weird flavor combo? I love pineapple on pizza but that’s not weird. Iused to eat cheese and jam sandwiches as a kid though.
74. at what pain level out of ten (1 through 10) do you have to be at before you take an advil or ibuprofen? I operate on how long it has lasted instead of how bad it is, essentially I get so desperate so I’ll try it even though it probably won’t help. I have the resistance of a rhino to most meds.
75. when did you lose your first tooth? No idea, like 4 I think? I did keep them in a weird little box for no reason though because they never got taken away from under my pillow.
76. what’s your favorite potato food (i.e. tater tots, baked potatoes, fries, chips, etc.)? I’m a fan of a good mash if it has lots of flavour (like gravy). Otherwise, crisps or fries.
77. best plant to grow on a windowsill? I grew a radish once! Something cat safe though these days, also maybe something heavy, and hard to knock over?
78. coffee from a gas station or sushi from a grocery store? Grocery Store sushi, if it’s just veg.
79. which looks better, your school id photo or your driver’s license photo? My only ID is my passport, and it is BAD.
80. earth tones or jewel tones? Both.
81. fireflies or lightning bugs? Fireflies (ten million of them to be precise)
82. pc or console? Grew up with PC. Now play my switch mostly.
83. writing or drawing? Both. Wrote more as a kid, draw more now.
84. podcasts or talk radio? Podcasts.
84. barbie or polly pocket? Both. But I prefered pollies as a kid
85. fairy tales or mythology? mythology
86. cookies or cupcakes? cupcakes
87. your greatest fear? Based on my nightmares, stairs.
88. your greatest wish? To live in a comfy house, in the country, with my Fiance, I have travelled the world, we have pets, I can function, we are free.
89. who would you put before everyone else? My Fiance and out animals.
90. luckiest mistake? Can’t think of any, most of my mistakes have been more like bad choices, also never turned out well for me.
91. boxes or bags? Depends what it’s for?
92. lamps, overhead lights, sunlight or fairy lights? lamps, or fairy lights. Unless I’m particularly anxious, then overheads.
93. nicknames? None.
94. favorite season? Winter
95. favorite app on your phone? LINE, it has my fiance, and animated stickers.
96. desktop background? Little Twin Stars
97. how many phone numbers do you have memorized? My own.
I never get asks and needed to distract myself so I’m going to just answer these anyway, like a survey or something. Original post by tr33-g1rl

{Get to Know my Muse in 8 Songs or Less}
Music is a great way to get a sense of a character’s personality, history, or general vibes. You might only have a handful of songs you associate your muse, or you could have a massive playlist that’s impossible to list. Songs make it for all kinds of reasons: the lyrics, the genre, or maybe you just found the song at random and it stuck. The purpose of this meme is to introduce your muse in the span of one album or less, share some of your musical inspiration, or even stuff you’re into right now while you write! You can explain as much or as little as you like (multimuses are welcome to do one track per character too!).
((I kind of broke the rules of this meme, and made a playlist for my main 3 muses. It’s a lot to go through, so its ok if you don’t want to listen to them all... ^^;))
General
1. [Stadler - Dreams of war] This was actually one of the first theme songs I chose for General, but I feel like it still manages to capture his personality prefectly. I think it kind of speaks for itself.
2. [A Cerulean State - If Only I Had Forever] When I listen to this song, I imagine General leaning against a balcony and staring at the stars... Maybe thinking about the things that could have been.
3. [Evening Star - Octavia] Here’s one that’s more upbeat. Even though this is an MLP song, it’s always reminded me of General. I don’t really know what this one makes me think of though...
4. [Two Steps From Hell - Submariner] Here’s a look at General’s more serious side. This one makes me think of General on the move. Most likely headed to a battle.
5. [David Edwards - Insurrection] I’ve been thinking about choosing this song as his new combat theme, because it captures how scrary it would actually be to fight him. His armor is nearly impenetrable, he’s strong enough to bash through the walls of fortresses, can easily crush a reploid in his hand, and It’s almost impossible to hide from his onslaught (if you’re a reploid) because his whiskers can detect electrical activity. I tend to assocoiate heavy sounding orchestral stuff with him anyways.
6. [Audiomachine - Last Plane Out] I chose this song to be the theme of General’s sacrifice. I remember that in my story, I actually drew the scene out a bit. Instead of moving himself into the path of the final weapon’s beam, he instead dives into the structures surrounding the core, and uses the last of his strength to cause as much destruction as he can. General eventually succumbs to his wounds, and has a surprisingly peaceful death before the inferno from the core’s implosion could take him. He died a true hero, giving up everything he had already sacrificed so much for to protect the innocent humans and reploids of earth.
7. [The Volga Boatmen (Paul Robeson cover)] I remember sharing this song to show how I imagined General’s singing voice to sound.
Colonel
1. [Two steps from hell - Never back down] This is the song I chose to be Colonel’s theme song. Beleive it or not, it has actual lyrics. I think they suit him really well.
2. [Kingdom Hearts II Soundtrack - Passion - KINGDOM Orchestra Instrumental Version] If I could make this Colonel’s theme I would, but I have a personal rule against using songs from popular media for themes. I remember a time when I had almost lost muse for him, but listening to this song helped me remember his more noble and heroic side (mostly at 1:56 though).
3. [Thomas Bergersen - Immortal] This is actually one of the previous theme songs I had for him. I think it still does kind of fit
4. [Two Steps From Hell - Winterspell] Whenenver I listen to this one, it almost makes me picture a scene where Colonel goes on some kind of mission. Also so far it seems like most of these songs make me think of Colonel running. He’s pretty good at that after all, being able to reach a top speed of 30mph on foot.
5. [Charlene Soraia - Wherever You Will Go] Sometimes I imagine Colonel singing this song to Iris. It reminds me of an idea I had a while ago where Colonel and Iris would have a bit of a falling-out, and Iris would try to stay on Earth with Zero while Colonel would try to go space with General. Still, even though her descision had hurt him, he respected her choice. They had been close their whole life, and now... They would be truly separated for the first time. Even though she’s not there to listen, it’s like Colonel is silently calling for her to come back. It makes me feel a little choked up knowing that despite all the greif that Iris had caused him during the war, he never stopped loving her. (One of the lyrics doesen’t really work here, but... you know.)
6. [Manowar - Die with Honor] The lyrics of this song really makes me think of Colonel’s last stand against Zero at the spaceport. I remember imagining that He had actually decided to stay back and fight off the hunters so that General could escape. Maybe I’d change a couple words in the song though, since Colonel never had a son... ^^; It also makes me think of this card from Teppen, which says: “Pushing himself ever further for the sake of his comrades, this proud reploid's blade can cleave any enemy in to two.”
7. [Two steps from hell - Unforgiven] This is the battle theme I’d decided on for him. The ascending notes in the background are like rising winds, the snare is like rain hitting your face, and the big drum that comes every now and again is like a thunderclap. Near the end, I imagine that Colonel is wounded, but has one last surge of energy before he either wins or loses. I didn’t call him the “Silver Prince of storms” for nothing. I remember imagining that his final battle with Zero would get so stormy and rainy that they would both have reduced visibility and would be at risk of falling off of the bridge they’re fighting on.
8: [josielemmings - In a Dying Whisper] “...Never in my life did I expect you to be the one to strike me down... Our practice duels... At one time we bonded over them... But now... It seems that they were only the beginning..." -Colonel, when he realized he was dying I’d say that by the time the chorus starts, he’s completely gone.
Iris
1. [Lucas king - Smiles] This is the song I chose for Iris’s theme. I think it really fits the impression she tends to leave on people.
2. [Lucas King - Cat] In Iris’s bio, I used this song to describe the way she feels when she’s with Colonel. Warmth, happiness, security, familiarity... Those are the words that come to my mind. I like how the bass of the song almost makes me think of Colonel’s presence and/or voice.
3. [Yann Tiersen - Summer 78] I’m not quite sure why, but this song still reminds me of Iris. I guess it’s her more ‘serious‘ theme. I feel like this track and the one after it do kind of capture her hopefulness.
4. [Yann Tiersen - Mother's Journey] This one makes me picture Iris running through the rain as fast as she can, as well as how she did her best to endure the turmoil happening around her. It makes me think of her perserverance and her quiet desperation.
5. [SAMUEL BARBER - Adagio for Strings] I imagined this to play when Iris would go to Repliforce’s spaceport, but she would find that not only have all of the ships left, there’s also fallen Repliforce soldiers littering her path. Eventually, she finds Colonel laying there... Completely motionless. She was too late to say she was sorry...
6. [Really Slow Motion & Giant Apes - Swirling Dinosaurs] This one was a last-minute descision, since I was kind of dissatisfied with the battle theme that’s actually in her bio (for X4). When Iris fought Zero, she was pushed to her physical, emotional, and psychological limits... All for the sake of trying to finish Colonel’s fight for him.
7. [Lucas King - Hurt] I picked this song to play for Iris’s death scene. No joke, when I played this over the cutscene in X4 (redubbed), I felt like my eyes got slightly moist. It really reminds me of her body struggling to stay alive in that moment as she becomes weaker by the second.
BONUS TRACKS: Post a joke song, a song fitting a relationship, or anything else you couldn’t make room for)
[Atherine Jenkins & Laszlo Maleczky - Amigos Para Siempre] I’ve kind of made this my song for Colonel and Iris. I oftem imagine them singing it as a duette.
[Two Steps From Hell - Dark Harbor] I think this song would be good for Jet Stignray’s grim mission... Cut off the Hunters’ supply lines by destroying its very source.

Honored Spirits Bonus Chapter: Sleepover
I’ve been having trouble sleeping lately, so this is to commemorate it.
Yay?
The mission hadn’t gone wrong per se, but it had certainly taken a hard sideways turn. No one had died and there were no injuries that required more than a few hours in a biotic field under Mercy’s tender care. The payload had been secured with no civilian casualties and only a little damage to the streets and buildings.
Still, mistakes had been made and friends had been injured. It marked the first major mission since Hanzo and McCree had returned from their...explorations and while it seemed to go well, clearly it had not.
It didn’t matter that they had on hand the best that modern medicine had to offer - no one liked being patched up by nanites or in the itching, lukewarm clutches of a biotic field. Worse in some ways was Mercy’s Caduceus staff, which everyone - including Mercy herself - agreed was one of the most uncomfortable sensations that any of them had experienced. They should not be able to feel flesh and bone and muscle knitting back together but it served as a good deterrent to caution against reckless behavior in battle.
(No one dared mention Ana’s biotic rifle, even if the sniper didn’t seem to be around. She was not so petty that she would withhold healing for a teammate that needed it - and held still long enough for her to shoot them with her darts - but she would make sure that it hurt before the pain was soothed and their wounds healed.)
Dinner after they had returned and debriefed was a quiet affair and almost immediately they all dispersed, still lost in their thoughts.
McCree wasn’t surprised that he woke up shortly after attempting sleep and wasn’t too surprised to find his room light up with a gentle blue glow. He caught sight of Soba perched on the edge of his desk, its tail twitching and curling in nervous arcs of pale blue scales and golden fur.
“I could use something to drink,” McCree said out loud into the oppressive silence of his room. It was a sensation like tinnitus - the quiet yawning like a chasm so much that his ears rang with it. “Lemme get a shirt on and then we can go to the kitchen.”
Soba’s talons clicked against the top of the desk until he gestured to it and it drifted over, far quicker than McCree was used to, to tangle itself around McCree’s shoulders and waist. Just as he was about to step out of his room, he paused and grabbed the beat-up paperback he had read with Soba as they hunted down Hanzo’s targets. As if in reward, Soba nudged the side of his jaw. It still didn’t speak and McCree knew that it was a sign that it was particularly upset.
That in turn meant that Hanzo was upset.
“Why don’t you tell Han I’ll be out in just a sec?” McCree suggested, reaching up to tickle the underside of Soba’s jaw. It didn’t settle but submitted with ill grace to the scritches. If it indeed spoke, he couldn’t hear it but Hanzo still seemed to expect him and hand a mug of tea ready.
They smiled wordlessly at each other and McCree leaned down to press a bold kiss to Hanzo’s cheek as he picked up his mug, a silly thing that they found covered in dust and grime in one of the old storage rooms with the Overwatch logo on one side and the words, You don’t have to be crazy to work here. We’ll train you.
Hanzo looked up at him, his smile hidden in his eyes as he sipped from his mug, a joke that Hana had gotten for him that said, Might be vodka. His eyes also said the other things he wouldn’t say out loud. Udon rippled beneath his skin.
“Brought a book,” McCree said, wiggling the old paperback novel as he sipped at the tea. “If ya wanna join me.”
He was only partially surprised to find Hana on the small loveseat in one of the corners, bundled up in a blanket. She had a similarly haunted look and yet another mug of tea in her hands, this one bearing her logo.
“Wanna read with us?” McCree asked as he settled on the couch. “It’s Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton.”
McCree sighed, settling himself and then holding still for Soba to settle itself in turn. A moment later, Udon peeled itself away from Hanzo’s skin and curled up, restless and shaky in his lap while Hanzo himself curled up against McCree’s side. Hana joined them wordlessly, forcing the two of them to shift so that McCree was in the middle of the couch; she tucked herself against McCree’s other side.
Disgruntled, Soba tucked its head beneath the collar of his shirt and flattened itself along his skin. Hana’s eyes were sharp if a bit unfocused but she made no comment on it, curling herself further into his side.
“You want us to start over?” McCree asked as he thumbed to one of the pages marked with a small sticky-note marked with Udon’s name - the last place they had all left off. Another one with Soba’s name was further in the book.
Wordlessly, Hana shook her head; she bent her face over her mug and curled up tighter.
“Alright,” McCree said and took a sip of his own mug. Dirty leaf water he may tease Hanzo, but the warmth was very much welcome to chase away the bone-deep chill of night terrors.
Three pages in, Soba had peeled away from McCree’s skin, now laying on it and draping its body across his shoulders. Leaning against his arm, Hana toyed with the tuft at the end with both hands as she listened to McCree read.
Hanzo served them more tea after two more pages. As he was coming back to his spot, Angela walked in with Ramen draped across her shoulders; after making herself a cup of hot cocoa surprisingly heavy with milk and Ovomaltine, she found a spot on the loveseat. When asked if she wanted them to start over, she shook her head and asked for a brief summary of where they were in the book, claiming to have once read it a long time ago.
Though he could tell it wanted to join Soba and Udon where they were tangled around him and Hanzo, Ramen remained with Angela, occasionally nudging its snout against her cheek reassuringly.
McCree continued to read. When he finished reading about a scene that talked about Tim’s love of dinosaurs, Soba spoke for the first time. I don’t like Tim’s father, it said petulantly.
Smiling, McCree reached up to stroke the underside of its jaws. Hana mumbled sleepily as the motion jostled her.
It’s a trope, Udon grumbled. The father that isn’t as understanding as he should be.
On his other side, Hanzo stiffened and McCree casually looped an arm around his shoulders and squeezed. Shimada Sojiro was like Tim’s father, Soba said, twisting so it was spread out over Hanzo, McCree, and Hana’s laps.
“Why’d you stop, cowboy?” Hana mumbled sleepily.
“Sorry,” McCree murmured back. Across the room, Angela stirred her cocoa with a tired smile; Ramen yawned adorably from its perch on her lap though McCree knew that the dragon spirits had no need for sleep. He turned the page and resumed reading.
A page and a half later, they were joined by Mei and Snowball, who both seemed surprised to see the group. While the kettle warmed again they went out to get as many blankets and pillows as they could find and returned with Lena in tow. They derailed their storytime to construct a crude blanket fort.
Childish, Udon sniffed, but it was by its suggestion that they use the tables placed on their sides to make the enclosure larger. Regardless, Udon got the other spirits in the air until everyone was able to settle down on makeshift pillows and blankets.
Hanzo claimed a spot tucked up against McCree’s right side while Hana resumed her place on his left, curled up and not quite touching him. He knew better than to push her and his left arm was needed to hold the book anyway.
At his nod, the dragons settled again. Soba curled up on his right side, a long cool line from collarbone to ankle as it balanced along the seam created by McCree and Hanzo; Udon mirrored its pose over McCree’s other side, though at his hip its hips and long tail curled to drape over Hana’s as well. It curled the tufted end of its tail under her neck and let her toy with the silky strands as she closed her eyes and pretended to sleep.
Ramen curled up with Angela, Mei, and Snowball, letting the little drone rest with a happy trill against its belly and forelegs. Angela, Mei, and Lena were propped up against the long side of the couch, the kettle of hot water resting on an insulated pad between them; Ramen had draped itself over their laps when they were settled.
Continue! Ramen said imperiously.
Smiling, McCree waited for Hanzo’s sleepy “translation” and obeyed.
The next morning when Ana made her way to the common room, she found a small crowd outside the doors.
“What is it, Jack?” she asked quietly. Soldier 76 twisted to scowl at her, an expression only visible in the furrows carved into his brow above the mask. “Oh right,” she said with false sympathy. “That’s not your name now, is it?”
Soldier 76 grunted. “Told you not to call me that,” he agreed gruffly.
Waving him off, Ana pushed past into the kitchen. Reinhardt smiled widely at her and gestured for her to be quiet. He was very carefully pulling out ingredients for breakfast and she eyed him before looking for her kettle.
“Looks like the kids had a sleepover,” he said, his thunderous voice as soft as he could reasonably make it. Looking where he gestured, he indeed found the “kids”.
They had created a blanket fort out of the couch cushions and assorted blankets she recognized as the plain, ubiquitous things from Storage. Mattress pads provided cushion for the “floor” of their fort - to ease the aches in backs that may be used to feeling the ache of the hard ground but were becoming too old to comfortably enjoy it - and more sheets and blankets hung over the short-legged tables tilted on their sides to give it the appearance of a nest.
McCree and Hanzo were curled up together like two matching puzzle pieces; Hana Song lay tangled in the comforter next to them, one foot sticking out, bare to her knee as the motion of her tossing and turning hiked up the leg of her pajama pants. Her hand lay draped tentatively over McCree’s metal wrist. To their side, Mei, Lena, and Angela leaned against each other. Empty mugs lay tilted on their sides, some of them with contents that had spilled to the carpets and others with empty stains that marked where they had been filled with tea or cocoa.
The dragons were tucked around them: Soba and Udon rested on the now-cushionless couch like glittering blue-and-gold gargoyles while Ramen perched on the edge of the table with Snowball, in power-saving mode, resting on its shoulders. A book was held carefully in Soba’s jaws, the page delicately saved between its teeth.
“Let’s let them sleep a little longer,” she said to the immortal spirits. “Bring me the book, Soba, and I will mark the page for you.” The dragon obeyed and she used a piece of napkin from the kitchen to mark their place as promised. “If they wake up and are hungry, will you tell them that we’re at the lower kitchen?”
Soba twisted in the air around her head but from its perch, Udon nodded regally. Smiling, Ana shooed the curious observers out and helped Reinhardt pack up the ingredients to take to the other kitchen as promised.
“I think they earned themselves some rest, don’t you think?” Reinhardt smiled agreeably.

11 questions. @crocordile tagged me!
1. What was the last picture you took with your phone/camera that you liked? Can you post it?
With my actual camera was this photo of Brighton Beach, and I did post it! On my phone, a picture of Central park at lunch for my instagram story, and, uh, it wasn’t that good. I have better photos of the park honestly. My phone camera blows.
2. What’s the last meme you enjoyed, and a meme you can’t stand?
I’m going to answer the second question first because I fucking hate the distracted boyfriend meme. holy shit I haven’t hated a meme this much in so long. I was annoyed by the recent spongebob one but not nearly as much as this one. I can’t even explain why, it just...ugh I can’t.
Last one I enjoyed, I dunno. I liked Babadook the LGBT Icon. That one was fun. But I forget these things so quickly and most of them irritate me at least a little, so, I don’t have very many positive answers here whoooooops.
3. Give me a song and what it makes you think of, or what you like about it
I have a whole tag/post series about this! If there’s one that catches your eye (this goes for anyone) I would be happy to tell the story behind why a specific song makes me viscerally remember a place or time. But! I will part the curtain and tell you a post/story that’s germinating in my head, and another story that’s just very sweet.
1: The Beatles - Let It Be is a song I found later in life, and adored right away. I can’t listen to it and be stressed--can anyone? I love to listen to it musically, the chord progression and vocals are so simple and beautiful. But once, while listening, I laid down on my bed and closed my eyes and as I listened, I thought about all of the beautiful places I’ve been, things I’ve seen, times when I felt at peace. Next to a stream in the woods, looking at the stars, walking through a campground in the pouring rain. I love doing that to this day and I would love to do a Let It Be + everywhere post with some of my photos, but I’m not sure it would get across the mood as intensely as I want it to--so I’m still working on the idea.
2: Jerry Garcia (/the Grateful Dead) - Bird Song is really lovely in a lot of ways, but it’s an extra-special and very sweet memory for me. I listened to the Dead a lot growing up, because of my dad. They’ve been my favorite band for my entire life, and every single song that I love has significance in my life. My dad is not always the most emotionally demonstrative person (and honestly, neither am I, when it comes to being vulnerable and sincere) but when I was very small, he used to pick me up and dance with me to this song. I don’t think he ever did that for any other song, and as a rule he doesn’t dance. So it always makes me think of him and being a kid and feeling loved and safe.
4. The last time you were pleasantly surprised
Every time I get on the subway expecting a shitshow and it all goes fine! but more hilariously, the time my bosses called me into their office at the end of the day to ask me to google pictures of ducks in toupees. I am nothing if not immediately down for ridiculous shit for no reason.
5. A physical book you have and love as an item
These days, I mainly buy physical books because I love them as items, so I have quite a few! Standouts are an anniversary edition (one of ‘em) of Calvin and Hobbes, and a beautifully old-fashioned bound copy of Much Ado About Nothing. I also have two of the illustrated Harry Potter books. I mainly read ebooks nowadays but those are some examples of books that just can’t be replicated properly on a screen, and I love them all the more for it.
6. Your phone’s bg and/or lockscreen?
Both are the same: the top photo in this post. I took it at the New York Botanical Garden, in the rose garden. It’s good because having icons over it doesn’t make my screen too busy, and it scrolls when I switch screens so it’s like I’m scrolling through a rose garden.
7. I know I always ask this one, but is there a gif or reaction image you like but that you haven’t been able to use yet? If not, just give me your current favorite gif.
there are so many but this is probably the one that makes me laugh the hardest even though I have the least use for it
8. One thing you would change in your favorite media thing (book, movie, show, video game, etc)
I mean, okay, I don’t have a favorite media, but it’s the same answer for all of them, I just want better representation. and I’m at the point where I’m done yelling at the ones who do it wrong and want to look for the ones that do it right.
That’s the big stuff. I have smaller quibbles with different things (Sam leaving Frodo in the RotK movie was fucking bullshit) (why the fuck did Remus and Tonks have to die, FUCK you) (*rolls out a giant parchment of “gay ships that should’ve been canon”*) (okay that last one is a big quibble) but I’d have to take them one at a time and currently I’m Tired so, onward to better things I guess.
9. A non-American movie you like
I haven’t seen many--I don’t typically know where to start? But I adored Mystère à la Tour Eiffel, I am here all DAY for adorable interracial Victorian lesbians.
The only other one I can think of is Spirited Away, which of course was lovely. And I need to watch more Studio Ghibli films, I know this, I’ll get to it eventually!!
10. You’re transported to the setting of the last fic you read. How screwed are you?
Uhh not very? I’ve been reading just...Yuri on Ice fic. Set in canon. So most likely I’d be in Japan or Russia, except the rose-glasses non-homophobic YOI versions, and I’d be so completely fine with that. Unless I had to compete at the Grand Prix or something, which would, granted, be a problem.
(Ask me in a week or two when I’ve gone down a hole of TAZ fic, it’s gonna happen and it’s gonna be bad.)
11. stealing this from VV but it’s a great question: what’s the nearest art thing to you rn?
It’s an an ink painting/drawing of a very disturbing looking anglerfish, and I honestly think it’s better if you just try to imagine it. Also on that wall, from right to left:
right under the anglerfish, a silhouette of Aaron Burr with the words life doesn’t discriminate between the sinners and the saints
a garland of multicolored stars
a knitted jellyfish
a lamp with a colorful striped shade and a dinosaur at the base
a Ravenclaw banner
a framed collage of pictures of me and my best friends
(bonus question: what’s a fandom I have that you hate/blacklist/don’t get?)
I blacklist “Game of Thrones” and a bunch of character names from it (and desperately wish everyone would stop using “got” as a tag because that’s an actual word that I’m nervous to blacklist even as “#got”) but not really because I don’t like it, I just haven’t gotten into it and am trying not to learn too much about it in case I do pick it up someday, I don’t want to know too much. Also Dragon Age because I don’t play it and probably never will and I always start reading posts about it thinking I know what’s happening and getting wildly confused. But there’s nothing I hate! If there was I wouldn’t stick around lol.

It’s called “Mysterious Disaster” by yours truly and iF YOU SEARCH UP MY NAME IN THE AUTHORS CATEGORY ON THE LIBRARY WEBSITE THAT BOOK COMES UP. You can check it out of the library, you can fucking read it if you want. Anybody can get it. And it’s only there because I entered a book-writing contest in 4th grade. Anybody who entered got their book in the children’s section of the library and i was like HELL YEA and wrote the shittiest 30 page book a 4th grader could ever write and i sTILL GET SNAPCHATS of friends going to the library, finding the book, and doing dramatic readings of it oh god it’s horrible

04 Setting Up
Another morning... Location?, somewhere in the Milky Way galaxy. That is all I'd know about my whereabouts for the next five years. I started the day by unpacking all the audio equipment and bringing it out to the living room, I sure hope they got all the cables, finding a patch cord near Betelgeuse may prove difficult. Solitude is something I'd grown accustom to on Earth. But I did have a companion of sorts, Olaf. I still can't for the life of me figure out why he picked that name, even if I thought about Frozen as often as I did. I could now leave that life behind, I was getting a fresh start. I just hope they saw fit to have a mate for me, maybe they picked out someone for me like a profile from a dating site. I always hated the idea of those places, I wanted to accidentally bump into the love of my life. I remember the woman I ran into when I was in line at the cable company to turn in all my TV crap and tell them where to cram it. She was a vision of middle age beauty, with emerald green toe nails. She was doing the same thing, and I couldn't resist starting a conversation with her. Of course she used the dreaded 'we' word, but I expected her to be married. She was one of the good ones. Still,... she was a delight to talk to, and at least I tried, baby steps. I spent the better part of three hours setting up my two stereo systems. One was designed for hard core rocking out, and the other was designed for late evening sessions with jazz or classical. One thing I hadn't considered until this point was the loud system was designed for my aging ears, I wondered what it'll sound like now that I have the ears of a two year old?
"Michael, the power pack will be here within minutes." "Thanks Olaf. But how will it get here?" "That way." I looked outside to see a simple rectangular shape that looked like a long tombstone land in the yard. I walked outside and as I approached the vessel the shield went down on it. On the platform was what looked like a power strip with no cord, and eight outlets that looked very normal, like it was purchased on Amazon, bet they wished they had some of these delivery platforms. Oh wait,... I bet Amazon is a distant memory for folks on Earth right now, and they'd be happy to just not starve.
So I plugged everything in and took a deep breath. If something broke there would be no repairing it out here, or so I thought. "Michael, if you don't mind, I'd like to hear the electron beam vacuum equipped system first, and I'd also like to deep scan everything." "Knock yourself out, Olaf" I think he knew what that meant. So I put some Coltrane on the tube system, turned on all the switches, and waited for the warm up. All the tubes lit up, that was a good sign. I set the needle in the groove and sweet music came forth. At least I'd have something to do, I haven't heard this stuff in a while.
Olaf seemed fascinated, well as fascinated as a metal ball could appear, anyhow. His laser scanners pored over every millimeter. For him this would be like unearthing some ancient dinosaur. "Olaf, can those beams penetrate to the interior?" "Yes, I'm recording all aspects of it's diagrammatic content and layout, plus measuring all voltages, currents, and frequency responses." "Good, hopefully you can manufacture parts if anything breaks." "By the results of this scan it should be possible." Well, that's a relief. I don't think there's a Radio Shack within twelve parsecs of here. ___________________________________________________________ Something had been gnawing at me all day, so I just blurted it out. "Olaf, Ive been wondering. Since my body has been rejuvenated, what's my life expectancy?" The dreaded pause; "Approximately two hundred and fifty years." "WAIT, WHAT?!!" "Like I eluded to earlier, Michael, your DNA is easily manipulated and repaired, there is some logic to our decision on picking your race." Holy shit!, not only did I stumble onto the fountain of youth, I'd get thrown immortality in as a bonus. Yea, I know two hundred and fifty years isn't immortal, but who the fuck wants to live forever? All good things come to an end, all.

So we got our fill of the laid back stuff, it was time to crank up the 'Sand System' and rock out. So I picked the hairiest Hair Metal eighties record I had and set the volume to eleven. Olaf went up to every driver in the cabinets and checked each one out. I could tell the difference in my hearing, what once was loud is now ear splitting. I only listened to a couple of songs that way, I just got these ears fixed, and now they had to last another two hundred and thirty years. "So, Olaf, what do you think?" "These relics are amazing, Michael. But from what I gather from your database, loud music fell out of favor." "That's true, Olaf. This was the stuff of old people." When I was young we went to rock concerts that were twice as loud as this gear. We were the rebels, and old people didn't understand why we needed it so loud. But loud music is visceral, you can feel it, and in my older age, that helped. I think I was hearing at lot though my body that my ears could no longer catch. It saddened me that the bonding experience of twenty thousand people starring down fifty thousand watts of audio gear to get blasted out in a drug hazed orgy of sound would be something of the past, we thought it would last forever, but.....
All good things come to an end, all.

Over the next few days I finished unpacking what little was left of my life. My laptop was here, but Googling anything was going to be difficult. "No internet connection available." Yea, no shit. Still, my stories were there, so I could at least read those, and I guess traveling on an alien spaceship across the galaxy should provide some ideas for my muse. but for now, I should just do a journal. Tools. Hmm, I wonder why they got those. With replicators, what was there to build? At the bottom of the last one, they had slipped in the one remaining piece of my Frozen collection. It was a solid plastic figurine of Anna, in her coronation day dress. Oh, how I had longed to dance and twirl with her in that ballroom. Really I wanted to learn ballroom dancing anyway. The idea of getting dressed up in fancy clothes, and spending an evening with the one you love face to face, holding each other and spinning about had fascinated me forever. Society had other plans and this activity had fallen out of favor. Now it was just considered 'gay'.
All good things come to an end, all.

I took out my laptop, went to the veranda, and popped it open. I starred at the blank screen and nothing would come. Anna was the driving force of my writing, it looks as though those days are over. I really needed to start over, this tremendous gift had been handed to me. But as I sit here starring out over this breathtaking landscape I have to wonder what's in store for me? What will this new chapter in life be like, and who will I do it with? Within a week I would find out, and it would be the shock of my life.
All good thi..., screw that. This is a beginning.
