This is my second question/ message here, the first one was massive so apologies for that lol but I hope you get to reply to it someday!

I wanted to show this to you because this page obviously wouldn't be possible without you. As I mentioned I've grown very close of your art in the past month and I couldn't help but dedicate a page to my favorite pieces.

I redrew them on my sketchbook in your style the closest I could (I hope you don't mind). I mentioned in my first ask that I really loved the Amazing Spider-Man redraw with Miles and Gwen so I kinda made it into my own fairytale from your drawing. (I hope you don't mind and btw I never posted this anywhere because I didn't want to upset you in any way because you could've feel like this was just a copy of your drawings)

The drawing with Tarboy was supposed to be Miles as the Starboy album cover but I made it too close to the edge of my Skechbook and I didn't want to alter the shape and size of the letters so It stays like that lol (I think its funny tho btw).

Oh and the "Nah Imma kill myself" was just a meme I saw on Tumblr of Miles famous quote "Nah Imma do my own thing" that I drew in a boring class because I needed a distraction and that came up to my mind.

(btw the Tarboy and Nah Imma kill myself were the first drawings of that page if I didn't finish them already by the time I started sketching yours I would definitely make a whole page with your drawings only)

Ok one last thing the little texts are songs that remind me of Miles and Gwen. They are from my GostFlower playlist.

Ok I realized I wrote way too much but I think I just can't help myself when I'm excited so sorry about that.

HI MATEYS!!! Happy Zadr day!

I redrew one of my favorite scenes from my fic, wail of the siren, aka the “Zim finds out Dib is a siren” scene. :) it was one of my favs to write for this fic.

also I’m so sorry abt my shitty handwriting 😭

I think this took me like three, four hell maybe five hours to finish??? the first two pages were drawn in Iartbook while the rest were drawn in kleki

On the fourth page’s first panel I tried to make it look like Dib was looking down at the water- I hope I pulled that off. Oh and on the third’s second panel Dib is hiding underneath the dock. (Sorry I just wanted to clarify that.) also gotta luv how I forgot to add Dib’s freckles a few times - 😭

I also thought it’d be funny if Dib was wearing a mothman shirt.

I came across a flickr page today “fraeulein_2eck” (aka laura hertel), 2008-2010, absolutely wonderful page full of german twee fashioon and handmade goodies and general irl photo. It really inspired me and made me emotional looking through everything for maybe over an hour, and in the end i thought it was all so strange because

1. I’ve always wanted to learn german

2. have an interest in sewing and creation (srsly her little plushies like birthday alphabets are sooo cute, when i learn to create I wanna make ones like those)

3. have the same exact clothing interest

4. and have always wanted to be named laura or lauren

5. Love Color

…..so i think this woman is just a matured version of my ideal self lol. Soul bonded is a little extreme to saybut her lifestyle is all I’ve ever wanted. It’s interesting getting to look into the most random of peopels lives just through what they post through the internet. Present day she’s a grown 30 something year old woman with her own little business where she can coordinate your wardrobe for you and help you find your taste in fashion, and im very happy for her :) anyway I redrew my favorite picture of hers, you guys should totally look into it for yourself, just from the small bundle of photos she has all her stuff is very inspiring and may inspire you two

This is tough, because I find that my favorites change all the time because I'm constantly improving! I think the ones I really like best currently are:

This all saint's day-themed estimeric piece, which was inspired by a really intimate and personal experience I had. Fandom has made it harder to enjoy this ship more recently but they are so special to me, I wanted to project a special moment from my life onto them. I also posted it on a really meaningful date for me, so it's like.. extra personal and special in that way 💕

This fordolyse beach artwork, because I feel like it's held up to my own personal scrutiny very well even though I drew it last August, and I just really love looking at it. I love the beach, and I find joy in drawing a simple beach and sky from my head. I love their body types. I think the composition works well even though it's super simple!

The little autumn-themed sketch page I did of my stardew guys, because it felt like such a labor of love to be working on it genuinely for two whole months and to not give up on it until it was perfect. I redrew some parts of it over and over and over, I wasn't sure I'd ever finish it. It was a real exercise in my ongoing attempts to stylize my art in a satisfying way while still keeping it feeling solid and proportionate yet interesting.

Well, this one I'd say I half like it, and I need to figure out what I'm doing with it… but I'm doing some like then vs now pieces with my stardew guys and while the lines are "done" on the past portion, I far and away prefer how sketchy the future part looks.

When I compare the finished lines to the sketch on the first half, I feel like it lost so much personality and I'm trying desperately to find a happy balance between cleaning up my sketches in a concise and balanced way while still keeping the energy and feeling of the sketch. I hate to feel like I wasted my time but I might end up just redrawing it, it feels so stiff to me 😭 I know this is a lot of complaining when it's supposed to be something I like, but!! I'm finding myself putting a lot more thought and going much more slowly with my personal art (working on it a little at a time over weeks instead of doing one or two several hour long sittings so as to not spend too much time on something "just" for me) which I think is helping me be more mindful of where I want to take my art, and also making the finished work more satisfying (since it's ultimately stuff I'm making for me anyway) :3

I think this wip probably has a long way to go and it might look totally different when it's done, but I find myself thinking about it and coming back to it the most! Like sometimes I just open it up on my second screen while I'm gaming and I just glance at it and try to figure out what's missing, or what can be changed. Or I just go ehehe at the smiles in the future portion of the set 🥰

Day 33: Yet another scene from my writing.

This is actually the first page from one of my comics that I redrew to look not shit. Unsurprisingly, it looks much better than before lmaoo. Calamitas' face here is prolly my favorite face I've ever drawn.

On another note, I have lost all passion for writing as of now. And I really don't want to burn out on drawing either, even though I'm spending like 6 hours a day drawing. I need to drown myself in nothing really creative, so I'll be trying to play video games or read something long af in the meantime as I wait for my writing batteries to recharge.

my friend @i-think-in-metaphors did this amazing commission for me!!! i redid the phantom planet statue for my au, and wrote a scene for one of my upcoming works where mateo gets to see it in person. i finally got tired of imagining it and wanted to see it.

Excerpt from quit telling everyone i'm (permanently) dead! (wip)

The black zirconium statue was larger than life. It towered above them on two separate, stepped obsidian pedestals, each about five-feet high. As Mateo moved closer, he could see something glittering in the bases. Danny mumbled something about ectoplasmic ice mixed into it, stronger than diamonds, but Mateo thought they looked like stars. He figured that was the intention. It was gorgeous.

He tilted his head back to take in the actual sculpture. That Danny was twice as large as the one standing next to Mateo. He felt his heart lurch a little at how serious Danny looked, the tight furrow over his brow, the determined set to his jaw. It all made him look so much older than even now, even though Mateo knew he was only sixteen when the statue was made.

The statue’s zirconium white accents were blinding in the late afternoon sunlight, and Mateo found himself shading his eyes as he looked up even higher. The hair on the statue was shorter than Mateo had seen Danny wear his, probably closer to the length it had been when he was in high school. It was swept back heroically, as if moved by an unseen wind, and the sun glinted off its sharp edges. It made the whole statue look as if it were glowing.

Crystalized ectoplasm made Phantom’s eerie green eyes, and they glowed too, though Mateo figured they probably glowed under their own power rather than a trick of the light. The statue’s eyes were trained on the thin, steel-wire Earth he cupped protectively close to his chest; it was a promise as well as a remembrance. The world remembered what Phantom did for them, and he promised them he would do it all over again if necessary.

Sketch Book #15 Complete!

I just finished filling my 15th sketchbook (I count my smaller field sketchbooks separately now, since they pair with the full sketchbooks) Here are some Highlights!

1) Cat Anatomy - I did an updated study of the skeletal and muscular structure of Timepiece cats. It's still pretty rough and by no means serves as a accurate reference, but was helpful in picturing the underlying anatomical structure.

2) Life Drawing - I did a lot of life drawings in this sketchbook from my first College art class. Here are some books I studies for my final project.

3) Cats from Pinterest - I did a little character design challenge where I found pictures of cats online and designed characters based on them. Here's the last page of those, and probably my favorites.

4) Toasty Decks a Furry - Heh, bit of a strange one. I redrew some Anti-furry art for a friend of mine's birthday. I hate to say it, but this was fun to draw. Little did I know I'd be calling myself a furry that next month and going to a convention 😅

5) The Furry Hunter! - I got to redraw my Furry Hunter character for some stickers I made (Which are available on Red Bubble if any of y'all want em) She's always fun to draw.

6) The Darkness Within- This was a fun traditional drawing that I'm still super proud of. Really happy with it. I felt it captured my own struggles with mental health and my efforts to overcome temptation.

7) The Imposter! - My first design of what would evolve into Marshmallow Toasty's final design. Turns out my Masked Character Self and my Snowshoe Cat self are the same person! (This relates to the Weaver characters in some of my other projects)

8) Drawing Manga Furries & Perspective Study - Tried drawing some characters using a book I got from the library, incorporated some things I learned about perspective from my current drawing class to get them to go back in space. Turned out pretty nice!

9) Marshmallow Toasty & Meet the Artist! - This sketch book closed with me finalizing my design for Marshmallow Toasty my new Fursona. I'm still trying to figure out this whole Furry thing, but things are going well!

Blog Post 3

Project 3 Process:

When project 3 was first introduced I was a little overwhelmed with the number of quotes we had available to use. I had many different ideas for different quotes, but it was quite hard to come up with multiple different designs for only one or two quotes that I liked. Once I got started with the thumbnail sketches it became easier for me to come up with more ideas. I really liked my idea with the paint filled balloons and throwing darts but I knew that I wouldn’t have had enough time to capture my idea so I focused on my second favorite design. For the larger thumbnail design, I found it hard to accurately showcase layering of hands in a way that I liked so I figured that I could work that out through photoshop. After trying to create a poster with my first design of the hands I realized that I didn’t like how all of the hands were in the same position. It felt like there wasn’t enough variety and dimension in the poster so I redrew the design in a way that incorporated multiple hand positions. I really liked this design when I was making the poster so I didn’t edit it that much with photoshop. When figuring out where to put the text I struggled a little bit and I’m still not 100% sold on how that part looks. Overall I think the poster has a good starting point and I will probably make more edits after the critique.

Reading:

I really enjoyed reading chapter 6 the most as it provided interviews of artists that have worked on book designs and book jacket designs. Personally I absolutely love reading and I’ll be honest the cover of a book is one of the main things I look at when trying to find new reading material. If I’m not drawn in by the cover then I’m less likely to read the summary on the back of the book. I’ve always wanted to be able to design covers for books as it seems like something fun to do, although I’d honestly also want to write the content too. My favorite interview was the one by Paul Buckley as his style seemed to catch my eye the most. On page 131 of the textbook there is an image of three covers that he has done for different books. The styles of all the books are similar yet distinctly different and geared towards the contents of the book. I also really liked the typography that he used on the covers specifically the Secret Garden book jacket.

I personally didn’t really enjoy chapters 9 and 10 as the majority of the examples were major propaganda for politics and other controversial issues. The interviews I noticed this most from were Steve Brodner and Mirko Ilic. Steve Brodner specifically focuses the majority of his illustrations on current affairs such as political elections, the state of the economy, and climate change. Mirko Ilic on the other hand focuses the majority of his work on less covered areas such as TSA security ‘changes’, scandals with celebrities, and relations with other countries.

A quick obituary, if y'all don't mind.

In 2018 my cat Lace died. it was sudden and mysterious and she went to one of her favorite spots to do it alone. She was buried just before a big hurricane at the beginning of summer. a little bit later me and my mom took a road trip to Georgia to see family, and I was inspired by the life and death i saw on the side of the roads to draw the 24/7 Haunted Roadside Diner comics.

In 2022 my cat Coup died. it was a long fight through 7 months of cancer that ended with me holding him at the vet as he took one last big jump after months of losing the ability to do so. he was cremated just before a big hurricane at the end of summer. a little bit later me and my mom took a road trip to Georgia to see family, and I was inspired by the life and death i saw on the side of the roads to draw more 24/7 Haunted Roadside Diner comics after not thinking about them for years.

They were total brats to each other most of the time and they could never agree on anything, but they were my friends for almost half of my life and they called truces to sit on my bed together and comfort me during the Bad Health Times or the Bad Emotions Times. I didn't realize that I was repeating history a little bit until I was almost finished redrawing these first 5 pages, but I think it's funny that even though they tried to go out as they lived, as fussy little opposites, that I started really healing from both of their deaths creatively in the same way.  So here's to the prettiest girl in the world and the baby boy. I probably could have gotten weird enough emotionally to write about roadkill ghost stories on my own, but y'all made it way easier to get there.

I redrew the first 5 pages to fit in better with any future 24/7 HRD comics I want to do (and generally flex my improved art/writing skills), so I’ll be posting one of those a day for the next few days. I've got 5 more pages and some illustrations planned for spooky season (October/November) along with some Downtrodden stuff so y'know. Nature is healing.

Hopefully I'll have more to post soon. the future is lookin' lonelier without my small grey guy, but it'll still have bright spots I bet. I hope.

Was feeling kinda nostalgic so I redrew one of my favorite pages of Maple Seeds 🍁🍁🍁

This is one of the biggest projects I’ve ever done and I’m still pretty proud of it, despite all the mistakes and things I could’ve done better

You can find all the pages in my story hightlights, but the basic synopsis is that Maple’s kits, some time after they’ve joined StarClan, decide to go search for their momma to get a better understanding of why she did what she did. After being tormented by Maggottail, Mapleshade comes to the rescue but, instead of letting him go with a warning, the kits watch as Maple viciously injures Maggottail to the point where they all think he’s been killed (the only reason he wasn’t was because this story takes place before OOTS). The kits, terrified, run to the border where Mapleshade catches up and calls for them. Patchkit then decides to give one last chance to the cat that once meant so much to him.

Whew, this was a long time comin’!

Page 31 of my webcomic (which has been on a bit of a pause while I got some mental stuff sorted out) has always been my least favorite page I’ve drawn. It was rushed and didn’t flow well and for some reason I guess I just couldn’t draw well when I did do this page (considering previous pages, which has better art imo) so I just bit that bullet and redrew the page to look and flow better.

A quick synopsis is its a Victorian Era inspired love story between a humble farmer named Milo Villicaña and local aristocrat named Alexander Fitzgerald. They meet a couple of times through happenstance and after a series of events, they become friends and slowly fall in love.

I should also say, if you’re intrigued, there is no homophobia in my comic! (s’why I said Victorian Era inspired) so if you’re worried that that is one of the conflicts in my story, then fear no more!

Anyway, I’m picking the comic back up soon so now would be a dandy time to read (But I’m not forcing you)
