I snagged some quail (deceased) from the bougie pet store and I'm soooo excited to start these bird dog skills with Aurora.

She has one puppy canine tooth that's really hanging in there but as soon as it's gone we can get started 👀

This year one of my goals is to be able to fill out a world map from memory. Genuinely sick of not knowing enough about the world and finally in a place where I can focus on learning again.

Here's the process I'm using, in case anyone else wants to work on this this year:

I'm starting with some online quizzes that say the name of the country and then I have to click that country on a map. After I'm consistently getting 100% in all regions, I'm going to learn how to spell all of the countries by writing them all out multiple times until I have it down. Then I'm going to print out some blank maps school style and fill them out from memory until I can just look at a map and tell you where any given country is.

Along with this, I'd like to learn a few new things about each country.

It is genuinely so embarrassing to be an adult USAmerican and not be able to point to Afghanistan on a map even though we were at war for 20 long years of my life. Yes, my school system failed me in this subject, but at a certain point it just feels stupid not to learn the shape of the rest of the world.

i rhink having people name european countries is not that impressive and just a chance to make europeans look smart and smug. throw a map of africa or even asia at rhem and they'll look stupid too

Of all the things to threaten me over, you chose the question that has no wrong answer? I mean it's not like there's such a thing as a bad Ghibli movie. Or if there is, I haven't seen it.

But as for my favourite, though I do watch Howl's Moving Castle more often, I think Princess Mononoke edges it out ever so slightly. Like the former is more fun to watch, much more of a comfort film, but the latter leaves a bigger impact on me. Not least of all because of its music. Like there are a lot of factors that make me adore Princess Mononoke, but its music is near the top of the list; that main theme is etched into my brain. Conversely, much as I love Howl's Moving Castle, the only piece of its soundtrack that really sticks with me isn't even original, it's a Bulgarian folk song.
