i only very recently realized that a lot of the people who talk about how gsa was cringe and made them homophobic are NOT in fact people looking back on own their past and cringing but people talking about how stupid the OTHER gays were and like. as someone who was definitely in the cringe camp for the short time i went to gsa meetings (during 2014-15), there’s a lot of things that i wish had been different about it. like i truly wish it had been a more productive space for the people who needed it more than i did and i wish my friends and i had had the self awareness to consider that at the time!!! we very much treated it as like the tumblr club and like. that is not the function that a gsa should serve. but also talking about how stupid and annoying you find the trans kids who are/were just starting to figure themselves tends to just feel. mean-spirited. like i joke about my own gsa experience and mogai tumblr all the time but its very different when it’s people from outside of it
