CoD OC Dump #1 - [Black Ops Edition]

Decided to cure my art block by doodling all of my OCs so that I have an excuse to talk about them. Started off with my many CoD characters, so here's the first set. Names and info under the cut.

Joanne Locklear — Because not everyone has to be the most epic soldier or spy to ever soldier or spy, Joanne is one of my civilian characters.

A med-student with a clinical interest in neurology (and a personal/non-professional interest in psychology) only partly because of her husband (drumroll, please), Alex Mason. She's my OC version of Mason's wife.

Her parents own and run a bar & grill in Fairbanks, where she works part-time when she's not busy with school, and her father happened to have grown up and served in World War II alongside Mason's father. They were friends because they were the same age, they were classmates, and also because when they were little their dads made them. She's half-Alaskan Athabaskan through her mom, half-white through her dad.

Lillian Scott — An analyst in the CIA with a specialty in linguistics and a knack for codes as well, her main role in my fanfic series is to serve as a translator, gather intelligence, analyze said intelligence, and so on and so forth. She serves a mainly supporting role as far as operations are concerned, and she's fine with that. After all she is a scrawny little nerd (affectionate) and although she can fight if necessary she isn't exactly great at it. It's too much for her poor constitution.

A fun fact is that she can actually shoot really well (girl is Appalachian born and raised, she grew up hunting, what did you expect) it just hurts her hands and she kind of needs those. Also she's paired with Weaver because if you know me then you know that I love me a man with an eyepatch and a tragic complex backstory.

Nadezhda "Bell" Belkina — An OC!Bell because you can't give me a faceless protagonist and expect me NOT to make a very long and intricate backstory for them (if you know about my AC fanfics then you know exactly what I'm talking about). Abandoned on the streets, taken in by Perseus, something of a prodigy, then brainwashed by Adler through the MKUltra program...you know how it be.

She and Woods end up bonding over the fact they both spent their childhoods on the streets.

Claire Anderson & Michael Isaacs — AKA Svetlana Andreyeva and Mikhail Isakov, both KGB operatives planted in the U.S. to assume American identities, their job was primarily to track down and kill rogue operatives/traitors. The problem with that is that both of them ended up really liking their fake lives in America, and were tempted to defect. Claire defected to the CIA, Mike/Misha was killed before he could. By Russell Adler no less.

Oh, and speaking of him, Claire is his ex-wife. She wasn't his ex until after he shot Mikhail, though. And then tried to shoot her too. Yeah, you can see why their marriage went up in flames. Somehow they worked out their problems enough to work together in the 80s...and again in the 90s. RIP Mikhail though.

Finally got ahold of the audiobook of Penance by Eliza Clark and I have mixed emotions about it. On one hand I love the premise and I feel like it's written well enough to where I feel like the author isn't going to clumsily stumble through her own story and fall on her face at the end like the majority of popular thrillers. But also this story suffers from having someone who hasn't been in school for a long time attempting to write teenagers. The funny thing is that whenever I see a horrible portrayal of teenagers, specifically of zoomers its never like, inaccurate portrayals of slang and trends that most teenagers cringe at, it's extremely unnatural dialogue that I don't understand how even a 30 or 40 year old can't see how awkward and cringe and flat out bad of a portrayal they're doing. You can claim that it's regional differences, even if we were all teenagers once I still don't know what it's like to be a popular mean British girl, but I'm fairly certain that actual popular mean British girls don't go around describing themselves as popular mean girls. The funny thing is that they've mentioned several times that these girls (ok it was actually like one girl but she introduced too many characters and I got confused so I can't even remember the name of the girl who said it) are trying to imitate the mean girls in popular American shows/movies. But I think that it's SO funny how instead of going for the obvious Regina George or maybe the more posh Blair Waldorf, they chose Sharpay Evans....I'm very familiar with the popular mean girl trope because I always love the girls who fall into this category and I can say with 100% certainty that none of these girls act like this either. I don't know what the author is going for but it's very painful to listen to.

Ortega peers at the office building, circling it, trying to busy themeself with investigating the scene. The building is drab and boring, walls grey and nondescript. Normally, it would've gone completely under the Ranger's radar, but it's what's inside that's important. And around. Ortega cringes as they nearly trip over another dead body. They squash the memories threatening to spill over and focus their attention back to the task at hand.

A few of them were falling by the time the Rangers reached. It was a chase gone wrong, Ortega was the only one following at first. They only thought to call somebody when the first body fell. They chew the inside of their cheek, trying to ignore the voice in their head yelling at them for wasting time. The team needed to be there. There was no way around it– alone, more people would end up dead. That includes Heartbreak. No, not Heartbreak. 

Sidestep. They whisper a soft curse to themeself, pretending like they couldn't hear their voice crack.

Notes: This is what I was working on all up until November! I wanted to finish it in time for a fan event, but, it didn't quite happen in time that way. (Maybe I can finish it later this year?!) For now, please enjoy the preview! I was also working on this together with a mutual - the track choice was mainly their idea, but I was trying to help find scenes that'd fit, and I managed to make quite a few moments work; You'll notice it's slightly different from my usual styles, but I'm also trying to relate specific moments and framing rather clearly here!!

(I'll admit theres a couple lines I thought were harder to work with; I'll figure those out later, but the track was overall fun for them regardless and I really enjoyed trying to make this!!) {As usual, a bit of manipulating scenes does happen, but its not ultra-heavy edits; all of these scenes come direct from canon formats for the most part, with some simple scenic manipulating otherwise!}

my favorite thing about my Generations ocs is when i start mapping things out and suddenly Poppystar has gone from Bitch-ass Leader who is Mean to the Protagonist for No Reason into Oh My God Give This Woman a Break, Moonpool Christ.

literally all in the span of 3 moons she: has an apprentice, is made deputy, becomes pregnant, goes on a quest to save her dumbass leader while pregnant, leader decides to RETIRE and she becomes leader, GIVES BIRTH, decides "fuck this" and makes her apprentice into a warrior despite him not having finished his apprenticeship

like YEAH no WONDER she's a Bitch(tm), she literally had to train an apprentice WHILE pregnant WHILE being a new leader WHILE the dumbass Main Protagonist pisses StarClan the FUCK off and suddenly its HER problem and she DOESN'T HAVE TIME FOR THIS

i had plans to work on my big bang fic today but then the stommy brainrot got to me and i started working on a "recounting of steve's real first kiss, not the one he tells everyone about" fic and well... here's a lil snip of what i put down today:

Steve tells everyone that asks that his first kiss was Sheila Anderson when he was fifteen years old. But, really, that’s not true. It was Tommy Hagan. When he was fourteen. It was late in the night, late enough that it was starting to be early. Steve’s parents were out of town, and Tommy was spending the night, as he usually did when Steve had the house all to himself. Steve didn’t like how big and empty it felt when he was all by himself, but Tommy did. He told Steve he liked the freedom, liked the quiet — no parents to tell him what to do, no sisters to argue with or fight for the bathroom. So whenever Steve’s parents disappeared (which was becoming more and more often these days), he invited Tommy over.  They were sharing Steve’s bed, Tommy on the left, Steve on the right, heads bent together and bodies curved towards each other like parentheses. All of the lights were off, and the sheets were pulled over their heads. Even though it was just the two of them here, no parents to bust them for being up well past lights out, it felt wrong not to burrow themselves beneath the covers. There was something sacred about hiding away under them, anyways. Just Steve and Tommy and all of their secrets, tucked into their own little bubble, safe from the rest of the world. Untouchable. Steve liked that. Liked feeling that way with Tommy. It was Tommy that started talking about girls first. He was recounting the story that Mike Lewenski had told him the other day about Vicki Carmichael and how she’d grabbed him by the wrist at lunch and tugged him out behind the school gymnasium and kissed him. Tommy told Steve that when he asked Mike how it was, Mike said sticky. Steve wrinkled his nose at that, and Tommy laughed, loud in the otherwise quiet room. His knees jerked forward, bumping into Steve’s, and he hadn’t moved them back into his own space. “Sticky?” Steve repeated. “Yeah,” Tommy said, the ‘duh’ unsaid, but implied. He pointed at his own mouth. “‘Cause of the lipgloss.” Steve’s eyes followed the path of Tommy’s finger, flickering over his lips, full and pink and curved into a wicked sharp smile. His teeth were so white, practically glowing, even in the dark. “Oh,” Steve said, distracted. “Oh,” Tommy echoed, mocking, and laughed again. He continued prattling on about Mike and Vicki, telling Steve that he wasn’t jealous of Mike beating them all to the punch because Vicki was pretty and all, but Mike hadn’t been her first kiss, and Tommy thought it was kind of weird for the girl to have more experience. “That’s just not how it’s s’posed to be, y’know?” He said. Steve was inclined to agree. Not because he thought it was weird for a girl to have more experience than a boy, but because he wanted it to be special. For both of them. He wanted to share the experience with someone.
