Irene Imagines - it's snowing!
✦ . ⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ❅. ⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦
You snuggled deeper into the blankets, feeling Irene's warm body snug against yours. You woke up to a cozy winter morning. The warmth of the bed combined with Irene's body kept you snug. But as you began to drift off to sleep, a parched feeling hit. You carefully got out of bed, gently lifting Irene's arms off you, trying not to disturb her but she instinctively tightened her hold.
"Mmm... baby where are you going?" she mumbled groggily.
"I'm just going to get water"
She loosened her grip around you allowing you to get up
"I'll be fast I promise." you reassured her.
She hummed in agreement as she quickly dozed off again.
You made your way to the kitchen to get a glass of water. As you filled up your cup, you glanced out the window and let out a gasp, your eyes widening in excitement. The sky was filled with falling snowflakes, painting everything in white fluffy layers. You hastily threw on your coat and dashed outside, still wearing your slippers.
The cold air raised goosebumps on your skin, but you didn't care. You were too busy twirling around, feeling the snowflakes land on your face. You crouched down, getting closer to the snow and cupped your hand around it, the warmth quickly leaving your hand, replaced by a numbing chill.
You started making snowballs, stacking them up to build a snowman, but then you got a better idea. You built another one right next to it but slightly shorter. One looked like you and the other like Irene. You worked carefully, adding details like rocks for eyes and twigs for arms, making both snowwomen hold hands. You stepped back, a giggle of accomplishment escaped your lips as you admired your creations.
Meanwhile, back inside, Irene woke up feeling the absence of your presence. She called out your name, but to no response. She got out of bed sleepily and went to find you. She called out your name repeatedly as she traveled through the house, finally reaching the kitchen, where she noticed that the door was slightly ajar.
She opened it and saw you outside, building your snowwomen. Irene smiled as she watched you from a distance. You were so carefree and happy, and it was infectious. She pulled on a jacket and walked outside to join you, shivering as the wind hit her body.
"You left me to go play in the snow?" Irene said, amused.
You turned around, startled, and then grinned when you saw Irene.
"Oh! Hi baby! I was getting water, but then I saw it was snowing! Look!" You showed her your creation.
"This is us if we were snowwomen! Aren't we cute?"
Irene giggled, "Yes, we're very cute." she said, wrapping her arms around your waist.
You smiled proudly, feeling happy that Irene appreciated your creation. As much as Irene loved looking at the snowmen, she was cold and wanted to go back inside.
"Can we go back inside? It's cold, honey,"
You nodded, and together you went back inside, not before bidding farewell to your snow creations with a promise to visit again later. Irene's face lit up with a warm smile as she watched you.
Once inside, you suggested making hot chocolate and to which, Irene happily agreed. As you sipped the warm beverage in your hand, you felt grateful for this little winter wonderland moment with Irene. Snuggled together on the couch, you watched the snowfall outside. Irene turned to you with a tender smile.
"You know, even though I've never been a fan of the cold, you make me love it," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
Your eyes met Irene's, and a warm glow spread through your chest. You couldn't help but smile.
"I'm glad," you replied, your voice filled with delight.
You whispered "I love you" to Irene, and her response filled your eyes with warmth.

would you consider some engport for the winter prompts? :3
always.
Warmer
“That is not a snowman.”
“Snowmen… Snowwomen… Do we have to label these things?”
“Okay, let me reiterate: that is not any kind of snowperson, João, that is a duck.”
João’s smile drops. He stands there, serious in his salmon-pink mittens, and says, “It is literally Barcelos.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes! Very!”
Arthur pulls a face—that sort that says ‘hmm, well, if you say so’—and he goes back to sipping the hot drink in his cup. João in turn huffs, then goes back to patting bits on snow into his chicken-duck-demon effigy upon the garden table, his latest masterpiece, and his first snow sculpture in years. Though to be fair, it’s also Arthur’s: white Christmases are a rare phenomena!
Of course, he’s just winding the other up. He could tell what João was making when he first looked out of the kitchen window about ten minutes ago, but sometimes, it’s amusing to watch the other work hard away, a pout on his face, a frown at his brows. The fluffy earmuffs he’s borrowed from Arthur’s collection of winter-wear add to the patio scene.
Taking another sip of his tea, Arthur continues to observe. A small ball of snow is scooped up from the table and gets smushed down onto the head. Time to make the comb!
While João continues, Arthur asks, “Want a hot drink?”
“I’d rather have some help,” the other duly responds.
“The mighty Portugal seems to be doing a fine job on his own, though,” Arthur remarks light-heartedly, from the comfort of the conservatory, whose warmth he can still just about feel behind him as he stands in the doorway.
João stops, mittens on snow, to look at him. “I don’t think you understand.”
The words are said so seriously—so harrowingly—that, actually, Arthur is inclined to agree with him. He doesn’t understand. So he steps down onto the patio in his slippers and he wonders, “What do you need me to do?”
“Something you should have done a long time ago, Kirkland,” is his stern response.
Now concerned he’s forgotten to do something that was asked of him, or that he’s forgotten a date (I swear that’s in January, though!), or that he’s just being an idiot in general and that’s disappoint João which is the last thing he wants and—
“Coat, scarf and gloves,” João instructs him. “Put them on. Find your shoes. Come outside.”
Panic dissipates like steam.
“Oh, you—” Arthur gives a nervous laugh. “You actually just want me to help.”
“Yes!” João cries. “In your own damn time! My hands are freezing, but Toni sent me a photo of a snowman he made, all proud and stuff, and now I want to show him how much better my snow sculpture is!”
More amused than anything, Arthur promises he will help, and he retreats inside to wrap up warm. Within three minutes, he’s slipping on some boots and is back outside, ready to help João achieve his goal for the day: to outshine his brother.
(Something he does every day in Arthur’s book, but… that is beside the point.)
Arthur first tells João to swap gloves with him. It means that he hasn’t got the cold, wet mittens continuing to freeze off his digits, and Arthur, willing to endure for him, can power on and follow his instructions while João takes a break.
Together, they manage to finish the comb and carefully make its swooping shape. After that, João directs Arthur through some touch-ups, wanting to perfect his creation before he dares take a photo to send to his brother.
Anyone who listened would perhaps think João is bossy, but that’s not the case. He’s an occasional perfectionist, and only when it involves competition of some kind. Arthur knows what that’s like. He has that same streak when it comes to his brothers. It’s one thing that makes him and João kindred spirits, in a way.
“Hey.”
Arthur lifts his gaze to find João next to him. With a blink, before him is a completed Snowcelos (a name João does not approve of, but oh well!) and he realises… they’re done. Wow. Finished! When did that happ—?
A chilly kiss lands on his cheek. Yet, it brings him the warmth of home.
“Sorry for making you come outside into the cold,” João says.
He loosely wraps his arms around Arthur from behind, resting his head upon Arthur’s shoulder. There’s nothing else he says—he simply gives him a hug—but the way he rests makes it seem like he’s tired. Ready to stop.
“I’m just glad we finished,” Arthur tells him, regardless. He puts his arms on top of João’s. “Are you happy with your snow duck?”
“Snow Barcelos.”
“Same difference.”
“Yes,” João determines. “I am.”
Another kiss meets Arthur’s skin, and João then slowly withdraws from the embrace. Instead, he takes Arthur’s hand, and suggests they go back inside before they both start to freeze.
“What about Snowcelos? Aren’t you going to take a picture?” Arthur questions as the other starts to gently pull him back towards the house.
“I will do,” João responds, “but I think he can afford to sit there and wait a little bit.”
“Wait for what?”
“For us to warm up a little.”
“Oh?” So much for being tired!
“‘Tis the season for showing thanks, no?”
Arthur’s face changes hues. “W-Well, I mean—”
“Don’t worry, Kirkland,” João smiles that teasing smile of his. “This won’t take long.”

‘ it’s snowing! let’s build some snowmen!’
She throws a giant snowball at his head, not too harshly, but enough to grab his attention. Chucking after the incident in a dark, operative manner, she places her hands on the smooth material of her ski pants, her boots trudging through the soft mounds of snow until she gets to him. ❛ Now, why not snowwomen? ❜ She laughed again, unable to help herself.

i feel like you'd make good snowmen and snowwomen and snowcreatures and such
"I haven't tried to make a snowman in a long time... All the ones I made when I was younger were just one big ball with a face. Maybe if I tried again now, I'd be better at it..."

Zombies, Run! Secret Santa Gift Exchange
@enbeast I'm your secret santa this year!
Thank you @delucadarling and @notforconsumption for running the secret santa gift exchange this year!
Sunny, one of your listed favorite ships was Nadia Al Hanaki and Archie Jensen. I'd never seen anyone ship them before but the second I read that in your list I realized how absolutely perfect they would be together, so I've written a fluff piece for them. I hope you like it!
This fic doesn't take place within the canon Zombies, Run! timeline but it does include spoilers for season 6. Also, I'm not British myself so I apologize in advance if my phrasing is off at any point in this fic.
Skate Date
Archie looked around in obvious delight. “Abel looks so pretty covered in snow like this, don’t you think? It’s like a fluffy sheep – only not shaped like a sheep.”
Nadia smiled. Archie could always make her smile, her near-permanent cheerfulness even cutting through Nadia’s serious demeanor when she was being professional while guiding runners on missions. Although truthfully Nadia still didn’t see the point of going to Abel Township for their date since it seemed like Archie just wanted to do things they could have done back in New Canton. Like right now, Archie was leading her to Abel’s frozen-over pond to go ice skating. New Canton had a pond too; they could have gone there. But Archie had insisted. “Silly Nadia, why stay in New Canton when we can go on holiday?” so here they were for a day trip to Abel.
When they got to the end of the cleared path to the pond, Archie asked “Would you like me to help you into the skating sled? Obviously you can get into it yourself, but if you would like some help I should do that before I put on my skates.” Nadia nodded.
Once she was on the sled, it naturally took Nadia much less time to get settled comfortably than it took Archie to put on her skates. So Nadia started sculpting a flower out of the snow piled up by the side of the path. She could tell when Archie had finished lacing up her skates because she gasped and exclaimed “That snowflower is so pretty!”
Nadia smiled up at her. “I’d first thought to make a picture of you, but I knew I wouldn’t have time.”
“Aw, that is so sweet of you anyway! Maybe later we can make snowmen together! Hm, snowwomen? I suppose they don’t have to be people. You could make just about anything from snow. Well, not anything. Some things are too complicated and some things would take too much snow-”
Nadia laughed. “Sure. That sounds like fun.”
They slid onto the ice. Unlike Nadia’s bike, the skating sled had to be propelled manually. Nadia could move it herself, but for now Archie was using the handles on the back of the seat to push her in wide laps around the edge of the pond. Nadia started to understand her insistence on “going on holiday”. It was very pleasant to be whirling past scenery that didn’t include imposing castle walls or endless trees shading a carpet of blue flowers for once. In fact, just knowing she was in a different place from her work made her feel more relaxed.
After a while, Archie let go of the skating sled as they both headed closer to the center of the pond. Archie started pirouetting on the ice. Nadia laughed to see her enthusiasm in her spins, and started experimenting with just what her sled could do. It couldn’t turn on a dime like her bike, but the turning radius wasn’t too terrible for a sled. She was challenging herself to make tighter and tighter turns when disaster struck.
The residents of Abel of course kept the ice as smooth and clear as possible, but this was a naturally iced-over pond with no convenient zamboni to help resurface it. And even if there was, the two of them had been doing some serious skating and would have undone all its work by now. Nadia felt a sudden jolt. The next thing she knew she was lying winded on the ice and the sled was tumbling end over end through the air. She didn’t see where it landed.
“Oh no, Nadia!” Suddenly Archie was standing over her looking even more worried than she expected. Nadia sat up, focusing on getting her breath back. Once she could speak again she said, “It’s alright, Archie. I’m fine.”
“No you’re not. Look at your leg.”
Her leg? Which leg? She looked down at her lower half and realized one of the skates on her sled must have come down on her right leg. It had cut right through the fabric of her winter pants and left a bloody gash on her thigh. “Oh. Well help me back onto my bike and I’ll go have Maxine take a look at it.”
“Yes. I think it does look like it needs stitches.” Archie looked anxious.
“Don’t worry so much, babe. It doesn’t even hurt, remember?”
“Yes, I’m glad of that.” She frowned. “It is too cold to take off my coat and use it as a bandage – oh!” She deftly removed her shirt from under her coat and tied it tightly around Nadia’s leg.
“Thanks.” Nadia waited just long enough for Archie to take off her skates and put on her boots, then the two of them sped off towards Abel Township’s hospital.
. . . . .
The hospital wasn’t crowded when they arrived. People hadn’t been getting sick as much lately and presumably there had been fewer accidents too. Well, aside from this one. Music was playing faintly but clearly through the hospital. Dr. Myers must have the radio on to keep the patients from getting too bored, but quietly enough that some of those patients could sleep. She hurried over to them as soon as they arrived. “Archie! Nadia! What’s wrong?”
“Skating accident. I just got a bit cut up. It’s nice too see you, by the way.” Nadia said. “Yes, hello Dr. Myers,” Archie added, “it’s too bad we’re only seeing you because Nadia’s hurt though, hey?”
Maxine couldn’t help but smile. “Yes, it’s nice to see you both too.” She led them to a cot. After Nadia got herself situated, Maxine untied the makeshift bandage. “Ah. Because of where the gash is, I’m going to need to take your pants off to get to it.”
“Not a problem. You’re a doctor, and it’s nothing Archie hasn’t seen before” Archie chuckled. “You’re very pretty without your clothes.”
“Maybe we should save the flirting for later. Wouldn’t want to make Maxine uncomfortable.” But Nadia sounded amused, not embarrassed.
“Oh that’s nothing. You should hear what some of my patients have said to their loved ones while on morphine.” Maxine said with a laugh.
“Speaking of flirting, how is your wife?” Archie asked.
“Paula’s doing well. Want me to tell her you said hi?”
“Please do.”
“And tell her hi from me as well.” Nadia added.
Maxine finished examining the injury. “It’s not too bad. I’ll just disinfect it and stitch it up, and you can go. Since you use that sled you can even go right back to skating if you want.”
“Thanks, but I think we have other plans.” Nadia grinned up at Archie. “We do?”
“Do you still want to make snowmen after this? Or snow-whatever?”
“Oh! Yes. But we should go get the skating sled first so it’s not just lying out on the pond.”
“You’re right.”
Maxine brought the bottle of disinfectant over. “This is going to stin- oh wait.”
Nadia laughed. Then she and Archie fell silent as Maxine worked, just in time to hear Eugene talk about the history of the song that had just played. Nadia was fairly certain he made it all up. Jack joined in with some banter, and Phil jumped right in too. Zoe waited for the three of them to be finished before cutting in with some dry remark that had them dissolving into laughter. Since Zoe spoke a little quieter than the rest of them, Nadia didn’t quite catch what she’d said.
A few songs later, Maxine was done with the stitching and Nadia’s pants were back in place. Maxine had even let her use a bit of surgical thread to mend the tear. Unfortunately Archie’s shirt would need some serious cleaning, but she didn’t seem to mind with her winter coat on. Nadia levered herself back onto her bike and the couple went to retrieve the skating sled and then go make snow sculptures. That may or may not have devolved into a snowball fight halfway through but, well, the laughing pair didn’t mind.

I lived in a tiny corner house for over 20 years. I lived with my mom, dad, and 2 younger sisters. We had a cat and a dog. When they passed, we had another cat and another dog.
The two houses beside ours were rented multi-family style homes. We witnessed a parade of neighbors coming and going. We heard the arguments through open windows and doors. We watched many celebrations unfold–Birthdays, anniversaries, and cultural holidays. We met all the pets that lived on our block. As time passed, we watched the street get damaged. There were potholes and cracks everywhere. The street signs fell down from wear and tear. The sidewalks started to separate. Slowly the town came in to repave the street and replace the signs.
We spent all of our free time outside making the most of each season. In the spring, our laughter and shouts filled the air as we ran around, playing games like Cops and Robbers and chanting hand games – “Shame, Shame, Shame, I don’t wanna go to Mexico no more, more, more” To beat the heat in the summertime, We always hooked up the Slip 'N Slide. In the Fall, we were the only house on our street to decorate for Halloween. Complete with caution tape, fake blood and tombstones. We had the spookiest house on the block.. And by the time winter came around, we had snowball fights, built igloos, and even a few snowwomen to celebrate the season.
WHile we played, our parents started doing some DIY home renovations. We ripped up the old blue carpet because it was bad for my mom’s allergies. We changed the ugly tiles in the kitchen to something a little more modern. The walls got a fresh coat of paint making the space look clean and new. The bathroom, which had been falling apart with shower tiles dropping one by one, was updated with drywall and a new sink and toilet.
The doors in our bedrooms kept jamming so we removed the doorknobs. The front door started to give us trouble as well and we kept getting locked out. So we purchased a brand new beautiful door. Over the years, we went through 10 phones, 5 mattresses, 4 couch sets, 3 microwaves, 2 refrigerators, all within 1 home.
Our house witnessed 3 proms, 3 high school graduations, and 3 first days of college. Our house was the setting for a whole bunch of sleepovers, fights, tears, and laughs. The house remained a witness to our past. Now, when we drive past that tiny corner house, we can't help but wonder about the new stories and experiences it continues to hold.
