What's Snowkit up to?

Letting him live because he really was written just to die and make a point about "deaf cats can't be warriors" and that felt uncomfortable. It would've been far more interesting to watch him struggle, find what he can do, what he can't do, and discover his place rather than saying that he would never have been anything and killing him.

okay this is technically a rewrite, but I like to call it an au okay so the story starts when hollykit and her siblings become apprentices, Hollypaw is trying her best And her mental leafpool tells her she’s doing great, but Hollypaw knows that she’s lying because she has the power to know what’s the truth and what’s a lie. meanwhile, Lionpaw is having a terrible time with his mentor Ashfur because he says he’s not good enough to be his apprentice and physically hurts him so when he was sleeping, tigerstar goes into his dreams and tells him to join the dark forest so he can become a stronger cat and he accepts but the thing is Lionpaw has the ability of super strength and and can’t be defeated unless he chooses to but he doesn’t know this and he almost kills Hawkfrost. while he’s training in the dark forest his brother Jawpaw Is being a bit snappy to his mentor Brightheart, she doesn’t mind this but leafpool thinks he’s better off as a medicine cat one day while he was sleeping, Tigerstar goes into his dreams but spottedleaf stops him then tells Jaypaw that his destiny is supposed to be a medicine cat, Jawpaw gets a bit angry and says crowfood i’m not gonna do that you mousebrain, he goes away also I forgot to mention he has the ability to go into anyone’s dreams, so one day he accidentally goes into Lionpaw’s dreams and sees that he’s training in the dark forest so he tells Firestar about about it and then tells to swap mentors with Holypaw because he doesn’t want to become a medicine cat, Firestar is surprised but does what he says and Lionpaw is relieved to have a kind mentor but Hollypaw isn’t so lucky because Ashfur is a terrible mentor but she’s a better hunter and Warrior than Lionpaw

Snowkit lives au (rambling below)

So the hawk this time was able to grab him but warriors were closer and able to bring it down

It actually helped bluestar regain a bit of her self seeing this, maybe it was proof starclan was still looking out? It didn’t help a ton but she ended up giving bright and swift there warrior names saving them from there fate

also he convinces the elders to come with them because that plot line was horrible! The mountains was scary for him remembering what happened to him as a kit

It's time for the next name poll (definitely not accidentally two days late because I have no concept of time)! This one is going to be Snowkit, who we haven't seen much of in Fire and Ice, but who will have his own arc in Forest of Secrets to give him some character development.

Snowkit is a white tom with pale blue eyes. We've learned by now that Snowkit is deaf, and there is some speculation among those in the know that this is why he has yet to receive a mentor/his apprentice name despite being nearly 3 seasons old. Speckleflight is fiercely protective of him, and rarely lets him out of her sight. Despite that, he has made a surprising friend in Cinderpaw, and the two can often be found playing outside the nursery when she's done with her duties.

Snowshine is a nod to his mother, Dappleshine, as is Snowdapple, while Snowspeckle is a nod to his other mother, Speckleflight. The other three are names that I picked that I feel suit his personality well.

(As a note, while Snowflight would also be a good potential name for him and a nod to Speckleflight, I have chosen not to include it due to fairly obvious reasons regarding canon).

It could’ve been great!

I’m still mad that Snowkit died but I’m even more angry now that I realized we could’ve had Tigerclaw and Whitestorm pt 2: but everything works out this time.

Snowkit and Bramblestar could’ve had such a great friendship if he’d lived. Like imagine:

Bramblekit making lil signs with Tawnykit to talk to him

Snowpaw(Brackenfur and Speckletail both mentor him) comforting Tawnypaw and bringing her a daisy cause he sees the way she relaxes and smiles when she looks at them.

Bramblepaw confiding his resentment towards Firestar and Tigerstar in Snowpaw because the tom couldn’t judge anything he said since he couldn’t hear it.

Tawnypaw and Bramblepaw manhandling Firestar into making their signs a requirement to learn.

Firestar moans and groans about it but he was already making plans with Brackenfur and Speckletail cause those are his babies.

Firestar spying on the three to try and learn signs without admitting he needs help.

The three spot him right away and intentionally sign slower to help him.

Snowpaw convincing Tawnypaw to stay in Thunderclan.

They all fight in Bloodclan battle, Ashpaw saves Tawnypaw from a dangerous blow.

Bramblepaw protects Snowpaw by taking his back while he fights infront of him.

Bramblepaw making a sign for ‘brother’ which he is the only sign he uses to adress Snowpaw.

All three of them beat the shit out of Tigerstar when they found out he was gonna try and take Tawnypaw and Bramblepaw away.

They’re all named warriors: Snowspeckle, Tawnypetal, and Brambleclaw

Firestar mentions he gave this name to redeem the suffix because Brambleclaw has risen above his father and became so much better, he has made the name his own.

They are best sibling gang to Squirrelkit and Leafkit

Brambleclaw is summoned on the journey and Snowspeckle comes along instead of Squirrelpaw cause thats his baby sis.

Tawnypetal also tags along despite expecting Ashfurs kits. They didn’t realize she was there til later. She stalked em.

She unfortunately loses the kits due to the stress of the journey.

She names them Lynxkit and Swiftkit, hoping her older brother and sister may come to collect her precious kits and lead them to Starclan if they hear the names.

She and Ashfur try again but they can’t seem to have any.

Snowspeckle is devastated by Speckletail staying behind. She gives him a stone to remember her by as its the color of her pelt.

He carries it the whole journey and it stays tucked in his nest for the rest of his life.

When they get to the lake, Tawnypetal notices Leafpools belly getting bigger and confronts her.

Leafpool confesses everything to them all and Tawnypetal brings in Ashfur.

They agree to be the adoptive parents with Squirrelflight, Brambleclaw, and Snowspeckle covering the disappearance of Leafpool up.

Tawnypetal adores the three the moment she lays eyes on them. She spoils them endlessly, even getting caught trespassing in Windclan to get them wool for their nest.

The three are raised by Tawnypetal and Ashfur, who tell them the truth a few days before their apprenticeship.

The three aren’t lil shits here and are actually very grateful their family went through so much trouble to give them a normal life and a chance to prove themselves without tainted roots.

Snowspeckle mentors Hollypaw, insisting on it because he recognizes her lack of confidence and wants to help her.

Tawnypetal throws an absolute hissy fit and claws Leafpools ear for trying to make Jaypaw a medicine cat.

She pulls a Speckletail and mentors him herself.

They’re all made warriors, same names but Jayfeather is now Jaywing.

Hollyleaf ends up in the tunnels after she heard Fallen leaves voice and thought a cat was in danger.

Wait. Oh no. I accidentally made an Au.

What’s Snowspeckle up to throughout the arcs?

I want him to just be existing as a warrior and doing his thing. He’s deaf, so that does come with challenges, but his nose and eyes are sharp. I don’t want him to pretend he doesn’t have challenges, but he has his way of doing things and is a bright and happy warrior.

Him and Sootfur are in a QPR. Snowspeckle is quite attentive and takes extra notice of body language in his clanmates, so he’s one of the first to notice Sootfur’s anxiety and panic attacks.

When Brambleclaw returned to the clans from The Great Journey, Snowspeckle would privately apologize to him for his mistreatment when they were apprentices, as Snowpaw then had only encouraged the bullying by being so terrified of Bramblepaw. The two get along quite well now.

He’s also the one who saved Applekit from a hawk during The Journey to the Lake. He was very proud of that, and so was his former mentor, Brackenfur.

Hello Internet, I’m Still Alive! Welcome back to Hypokits! First-time Hypokit peruser @quaelgeist333 asked for Survivor!Leader!Snowkit/Disabled!Sol and Transmasc!Nonbinary!Ivypool/Former Loner!Fernsong, and Frequent Flier @fernstarsblog asked for Golden!Evil!Firestar/Ginger Calico!Sandstorm/Older!Trans!Cinderpelt! (Fireslash IS Golden, I swear, the picture just makes him Golden-Brown because I don’t have Enough Problems apparently)

In the first AU, Snowkit feels the vibrations of everyone running to save him from the hawk, looks up, and yoinks out of the way. He is mentored by Brackenfur, and becomes Snowspeckle, to honor the mother who never gave up on him, and helped develop CSL - Cat Sign Language - which Thunderclan uses to strategize and gossip at Gatherings. Snowspeckle later becomes deputy under Firestar, and is well beloved. Sol’s story is also different - he was abandoned by his mother for not being sleek and tall - he’s short and scruffy and boys aren’t torties you must be the ugliest baby ever! He grows up angry and lashes out, but had always wanted a loving family. He meets Midnight and plans to vent his rage at the Clans, but sees The 3 being Good Happy Siblings and Y E A R N S. He also panics when Hollyleaf almost gets hit by a Monster and shoves her out of the way without thinking. He wakes in Thunderclan with a twisted hind leg, and finds they care So Much about this Scruffy Man, and this one white tom keeps wiggling at him? What? Thankfully Leafpool fills him in and oh he thinks I’m cute!?! OH SNAP HERE COME THE SELF WORTH ISSUES! It works out eventually, with many applications of Love, Self-Confidence, and Flowers!

In the second AU, which will be part of the first as a treat, Ivypool has Issues which she(?) can’t figure out, and everyone is Looking At Her(?), and she bolts in a panic. She(?) quite literally runs face first into Fern the loner, who was a son of the Sisters - his power, though he doesn’t know it yet, is knowing Gender, which doesn’t sound like much, but is Very Helpful sometimes. He asks this skinny new friend if they’re okay? Is someone misgendering y’all? You’re obviously Nyanbinary to some degree wait are you crying? Have a Warm Hug I’m really good at those! Is someone being Mean to you did they hurt your ears? Don’t worry I’m not a good fighter but I’ll uhhh lecture them? Yeah sit on them and oh her where are we going? Ivypool drags h-their(!) new confused and very supportive friend back to camp, Firestar can I keep him please?!?

In the last AU, a newborn Cinderkit is found abandoned by a Thunderclan patrol, and 4 moons old Sandkit touches the baby curiously. Some time later, Tigerclaw brings Rusty to camp, saying the kittypet has been following him and wants to join up. Secretly, Tigerclaw has been training the ambitious little sadist to kill Bluestar. Bluestar agrees as long as Tigerclaw trains him, and Sandpaw and her Tomfriend Cinderpaw watch in curiosity and confusion. Both are wary, neither like the giant brown tabby much, until Fireslash takes Tigerclaw down when he attacks Bluestar and her wives Yellowfang and Rosetail. Tigerclaw’s ghost disapproves of this betrayal heartily. The couple approach Fireslash to father some kits, and he agrees as long as he gets to train one when they’re old enough. Some time later, both Sandstorm and Cinderpelt have had litters about a moon previously, and the two leave to find Fireslash, mysteriously absent. They find him luring dogs to the woods, and try to sneak back to camp. However, Fireslash smells them and tries to just outright kill them, nearly killing their defender Lionheart in the process. He stalks towards the nursery, begins to leap - and trips over a Very Angry Redkit grabbing his legs, landing his Neck and Eye on Very Pointy Sticks dislodged during the fight, and meeting his mentor much sooner than anticipated. Lionheart recovers, and when the Dark Forest comes for The Clans much earlier, five brave siblings lead the charge!

so i do believe snowspeckle realizes mostly on tail motions to alert prey when hunting. but also a few signs i came up with that he makes with brackenshade (his former mentor and interpreter)

- patrol: tracing a claw in the ground, like making a border

- motioning paw to belly: hungry

- motioning paw to throat: thirsty

- shuffling paw downward: rain or snow

- shuffling paw forward in the air (like wind): windclan

- shuffling paw forward on the ground: shadowclan

- flipping tail (like a fish lol): riverclan

- zig zagging tail: thunderclan

- paw to other chest: a sign of affection/gratitude

- pointing with a claw at own body part: this area hurts

for other things to get attention, he’ll usually motion with his tail

please don't take my stance on this TOO strongly, the post was 100% awkwardly worded. i think i implied i only liked snowfang as a rename but i meant there are plenty of good renames, but snowfang is the only one i really consider.

the beloved reminded me they like snowstorm and i like snowstorm almost immediately after writing the post.

snowspeckle is cute! i kind of like snowfur's name for character building (pinestar) reasons, so i'm never gonna WHOLLY love a rename, but that is a cute name. my grief is with people who treat her like uwu soft mom, not that kind of thing.

Speckletail & Snowkit

Also-dunno if this has been said before- but what if Speckletail and Snowkit went to Shadowclan? Like I remember reading somewhere that Shadowclan was able to communicate using tail signals (don’t think it came up in books? But oh well), so what if when they realized Snowkit was deaf, Yellowfang brought up Shadowclan’s tail signals. Bluestar is skeptical, but considers the idea of Snowkit learning sign. But then there’s the hawk incident, however Snowkit gets saved by Brackenfur. Now Bluestar’s maybe has become a hard no, but Speckletail says fuck that (because they can say fuck here).

She takes Snowkit to Shadowclan and successfully convinces Nightstar to let them stay. Shadowclan’s tail signals expands and becomes sign language. Snowkit becomes Snowpaw. He’s much more observant than his clanmates, often being the first to notice certain scents, shadows, vibrations, and body language.

Soon Tigerclaw takes over and Tawnypaw moves to Shadowclan. Having also moved from Thunderclan, Tawnypaw is able to find comfort in Speckletail and Snowpaw. Snowpaw and Tawnypaw become close and, of course, with Snowpaw being her uncle, Snowpaw just can’t help but tease her about it.

I can imagine Snowpaw’s warrior name being either Snowshadow after Shadowclan, Snowspeckle/tail after his mom, or Snowstorm/blaze cause heck he’s a force to be reckoned with.

Speckletail and Snowkit leaving could also influence Bluestar a little after Tigerclaw’s betrayal, maybe making her go even further and threatening to banish cats to Shadowclan
