40th regression Cheon Inho incited himself as a sentence of the Final Wall and so he was able to go beyond it. but only a vast snowfield lay before him. He called out to Yoo Joonghyuk and Kim Dokja but there was no answer. So he walked for years and yet no footsteps were ever there. like he's not important enough to exist.

But then a twinkling star explodes into meteor pieces and one piece is headed toward him. when he runs to it to check, his reward of the scenario, he sees a newborn baby.

"You're Kim Dokja."

And the baby laughs.

... so confused like i said. Is this baby the Snowfield / 49 Kim Dokja? Are they even the same entity? Is this why the collected 49% Kim Dokja (who didn't read orv) is a corrupted existence? bcs fuckass 40th Cheon Inho corrupted him into creating a story with "him" as a protagonist? oh my god

'There are three ways to survive in a ruined world.' This is the first line of orv and the title of the novel Han Sooyoung wrote for Kim Dokja. But what exactly did she mean by that?

It's simple. The three ways are reading, writing, and regressing. These are the three methods we use cope with our lives, to survive each day.

Yoo Jonghyuk survived the hellish scenarios by regressing and remaining stuck in the terrifying past. With this method, he discovered various items and techniques that helped him improve each regression turn. However, despite the fact that each regression provided him with valuable information and wisdom, he slowly lost his soul and humanity. Regression represents how we replay our bad memories over and over, reliving the terror of the never-ending past. With this, we learn from our mistakes but never take a step forward. And that's why kimco chose to regress. They couldn't let go of the Kim Dokja they knew and loved, therefore they abandoned the peaceful lives they could've enjoyed with 49. Thus, in the end, they failed.

Meanwhile, Kim Dokja survived by reading. To escape the world in which he was regularly abused, he read twsa every day as a form of escapism. Reading teleported him to another world-a snowfield where he could confortably lay. This was his safe haven far away from the pain of his reality. And undeniably, so many people do the same. We use escapism to distract ourselves from trauma and pain. We deny the existence of these experiences and try to forget that they ever happened. But choosing to look away from the present doesn't solve anything. We convince ourselves that we're alright and everything's just fine, reading an entirely different and 'fake' story rather than facing the truth laid out in front of us.

On the other hand, Han Sooyoung was different from those two. She was a writer who crafted her own stories on paper. Piece by piece, she gathered letters from her bare soul to create two novels-twsa and orv. She did this with a clear goal in mind, to save a reader. And we are the fragments of that reader. But Han Sooyoung wasn't the one who truly gave us salvation through writing...it was ourselves. Due to orv's open ending, the story left Han Sooyoung's fingertips and entered the hands of all its readers. Because neither regression nor reading could save Kim Dokja, this was Han Sooyoung's final resort. She let us imagine and write an ending where Kim Dokja could live happily.

Han Sooyoung wrote orv not just so we could survive our own apocalypse, but so that we could allow ourselves to be happy. Because she realized that reading and regressing are just ways to survive, not to live.

What will you do? Will you regress and stay stuck in the past? Will you read and try to forget the bad memories? Or will you write your own story, taking a step forward one sentence at a time?

There's no way to know, but one thing is for certain....

So is anyone gonna talk about how Kyrgios was never in the original WOS. Kim Dokja brought him back from the metaphorical/literal snowfield between the lines. Anyone???

for me definitely 😭 i think i need to explain what happened

so despite lee hakhyun trying to stop him, yoo joonghyuk picks up another kim dokja fragment. the snowfield suddenly activates, but something's wrong. there's no snow, there's no kim dokja, everything is dark. ☐☐ activates, which means he's in danger. he goes to write something, but-

[you cannot write a sentence.]

and then he begins to die. from being hunted by constellations to tortured by anna croft to being killed by his teacher, he suffers a death and is brought to a new scene to die once more. lee hakhyun goes through his own hell of eternity, experiencing possibly every death yoo joonghyuk did during his regressions (he doesn't count the deaths). he keeps himself sane with the belief that this hell has an end.

every time, he tries to write a new sentence. every time, he gets the same response.

After two or three re-reads of ORV the signs of Dokja being MAD becomes clearer after each read. The foreshadowing starts with this part:-

(from chapter 339) Snow always falls at unusual times, specifically when Dokja reads the revised version of WOS and also during the epilogue. So MAD's train and ORV happens in the spaces between the worlds since they are described at snowfields. When 15 year old Kim Dokja came across WOS in the hospital while recovering from his suicide attempt and his coping mechanism became creating a world from this novel he loved so much. After kimcom went through the final wall they found a 15 year old Kim Dokja but that's not KDJ's literal younger self. It's his ego (could also be called inner child ig). After the 999th group takes little KDJ, the split happens (49 and 51) and then while 51 becomes Joonghyuk's sponsor in the 0th turn and then watches the rest of the regressions and his stories are broken apart to such an extent that when Kimcom comes to rescue him they see the child version of MAD, who they have seen before. Kimcom takes that Dokja while there are million other fragments of MAD in other worlds. ORV is a loop. WOS was real as Dokja wished. He read the book and then became MAD to see it become reality but the book came to be because Han Sooyoung wrote it. In other words , the beginnings lead to an end and the ends lead to new beginnings.

you are absolutely correct, that is kdj, that is him forcing his companions to kill him. ohg the duality of kdj. throws himself off the cliff, looks mourningly at the faces of people trying to catch him. staying on the train and yet sending them off with his 49% self etc etc... pain forever.

but also. consider this if you will.

25yo yoohyun dying in yoojin's hands. throwing his life away and after the years of separation. he is fine in his snowfield, untouched as if sleeping. he is fine in his hyung's arms tonight, breathing and warm despite yoojin's many nightmares. he died in yoojin's arms, with one last hug as his goodbye ^^ (<- about to die)

alright… finally caught up on the side story

the last chapters feel like when i read the epilogue. everything is just suddenly so obvious and painfully unavoidable. also is it possible that hsy sent me for a guilt trip for being one of the readers that thought kim dokja not fully returning at the end was a valid ending? it had just made sense to me at the time even if it wasn’t necessarily what i wanted but now it’s like ahaha sorry sooyoung… i don’t actually want all my favorite characters to suffer

also how do i express my love for sooyoung as a character? she’s so amazingly consistent throughout orv and the side story.

and lhh being 49 is killing me in the best way. while reading about lhh and hsy in the snowfield i was cheering so hard for him to come up with an original sentence to win and change the story. knowing that it’s 49 paving his own story after being denied that he was his own person in orv makes it so much deeper
