I first started playing games regularly when I was 7 or so. My family was poor so we couldn’t afford anything new, but we found an old Playstation 1 at a yard sale. The PS3 was already on store shelves at the time. Looking back, maybe the reason I became so good at games was because the first games I played were the original Crash Bandicoot trilogy, and Rayman 1.... those games kicked little Emily’s ass.... I remember getting so frustrated I’d cry... Maybe that’s when I developed my hatred for losing, too... I know those games like the back of my hand now. I’d go on to learn how to emulate SNES and GBA games on an old laptop... When the Crash trilogy got a remake in 2017 and people were comparing them to Dark Souls, I was surprised, cause little Emily was able to beat them... but maybe I’ve just received the gaming equivalent of a spartan upbringing...

I know next to nothing about Kirby (grew up with Mario, Rayman and Crash Bandicoot), I just love your art and writing because it looks so wholesome and it makes me smile every time I see it on my dash. Your blog made me really curious about actually trying the games though, and I was wondering if you had any advice for someone who never played any of them. Where should I start ? (I can play on GBA, DS, 3DS, Switch)

This is so sweet, thank you for the kind words!! Kirby games are generally pretty easy to pick up and play without any sort of context, but if I had to pick one Kirby game to play it would be Kirby Super Star/Super Star Ultra.

Ultra is for the DS, while Super Star is on the SNES Virtual Console if you have Nintendo Switch Online.

Super Star/Ultra is a great look into the Kirby world as you explore various subgames each with different stories and gameplay mechanics. And meet long-standing characters like Dedede and Meta Knight too!

Plus, these games can be played in co-op, so if you have a friend to play with you can play together :)

But yeah, you can't really go wrong with any of the Kirby games. My personal favorite is Planet Robobot (3DS), but I also love Return to Dreamland(Wii/Switch), Forgotten Land (Switch) and Star Allies (Switch).

Finally got a concept drawn for Raymona, my fan character thingamajig/Ray girl.

Part of her design was based off the old Snes Prototype Rayman with the Raygirl concept.

Instead of an O on the front of her shirt, it's a yellow lum. The lum pattern on her shirt will start glowing when she uses her powers. She can gather power from that spot to create lums. Compared to Ly, her skill with lum creation is weaker. She can't give permanent power ups, but she can give temporary boosts or create red lums for potent healing.

The red scarf around her neck was the same one Rayman wore previously (The same one he wore in his Rayman 1 and 2 days). It was a gift he gave her when he decided to upgrade to the hoodie he wears now. Sometimes she will unfasten it and use it to cover her head when she's doing chores. She takes great care of it and it's one of her most prized possessions.

Raymona's gloves are finger-less and made of simple leather, similar to the ones Rayman wore in Rayman Adventures.

Her hair has a tendency to become unkempt so she tries to keep it tied back. She'll undo it when she goes to bed, and will wake up with her hair all over the place. Her hair doesn't have any power like Rayman's helicopter, but there is a gag where she will sometimes pull random objects out of her hair that have gotten lost within. Lums consider Raymona's hair to be their favorite hiding place.

Oh yes I do! I will give you my top 5 - it might change in the future, but ya know, let's stick to today:

Earthbound - first jrpg I have ever encountered. Tiny me had luck to come across a Polish youtuber who made a let's play from it and translated everything to Polish - the guy even made special cards for enemies, just so everyone could know what he's fighting with. But overall, it's a game with a very simple plot. A bunch of kids who are on an adventure to save the world. What makes the game so good is the mechanics, music and graphics, which still holds up to this day. SNES era, my beautiful pixels <3 Also, it was always a game that made my childhood dream come true. Just to have some friends and go on an adventure with them

Final Fantasy VII - first of the Final Fantasy series I've played and first game that made me come back to jrpgs for real. I'm a big fan of the original. The story, the characters, the freaking music in this one, everything is just so good. Bosses are challenging, especially if you play a jrpg with action time battle for the first time, but everything is constructed in a way that you are thrown in the fight and you can figure it out by yourself. No major tutorials, just figure it out by yourself. I've played the European version, heard it's easier than the US and Japanese version, but I might be insane enough to try the US version and see if it's really that much difficult or my friend just sucks at. Also, I love me some polygons <3 It's also the game that made me realize that the "you know you're fucked when latin choir joins the boss's music" is very true

Silent Hill 2 - while not a big fan of horror games, this one deserves a spot there. Not only music is great, but this is the only game that can scare the shit out of me. And no, not because of monsters - although there is one I just freaking HATE - but because of the atmosphere. The game can literally trick you into false sense of security, just to throw you out of the safe bubble, into a hole with no exit. Not only you're confused as to why James - the main protagonist - came back to the town, but also you wonder almost blindly through the town, can only relay on yourself and no one else. Locations change to worse - I'll not only mention the hospital, but also the labyrinth where you have no map and you are forced to navigate through it while the map is drawn - and the game literally scares you with sound and atmosphere only. You can literally jump at the mere sound if you're playing in the dark

Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc - that one deserves a spot there, because it was my first platformer game which I fell in love so much that when I got my hands on the copy of it in junior high I literally finished it 15-20 times in a row. I love the stupid plot, I love the Polish dub in this game, the graphics are still holding up and they are very good and the music is just as it should be: good, otherworldly, setting the atmosphere just right. There's also the first villain in video games that I liked and I still love this idiot!

Kirby's Return to Dream Land - oh God, do I love this game! It's below Rayman just because of nostalgia, but just like Earthbound, it's a must play each year, WHICH reminds me that I didn't play it this year and I gotta, I just gotta. Either way, the graphics are cute and colorful, the music is so great I can't get enough of it, even after so many years of hearing it, the plot is simple, but GOOD LORD THE VILLAIN! I might say that that one dark lum from Rayman 3 got me, but this one? Freaking Magolor? I might be insane about Keith Moon, but I am as much insane about this small orb - I still want a plushie of him
