I have favorites that I've read 3 or 4 times each, and I'm looking forward to reading them again. They're comfortable and familiar, but I get to ride the emotional rollercoaster again!
people telling you they reread your fic is the biggest compliment you could ever receive. there are thousands of stories out there begging to be found, to be explored, but your story meant so much to someone that they came back to it eagerly, they went over every word again. to love is to return and loving a fic is rereading it. thank you to all readers and rereaders <3333

A scene from one of my absolute favorite good omens fics, I couldn't get the visual out of my head and have worked for over a week on this piece!
Long Haul by Snae_b (rated E)
-Spoilers below the cut-
“I don’t want casual.” To be honest, he doesn’t really know what he wants. But he knows for sure that he doesn’t want to walk out of this truck stop wondering if he’ll ever see Az again.
“It’s really ok.”
“Do you think I woulda been buggin you for the last week if I wasn’t interested?”
Az bumps him gently under the table with his foot. “Wasn’t bugging. I enjoyed our conversations.”
His foot stays tucked right up against Crowley’s. Crowley doesn’t try to move away. That easy rapport is finally starting to settle in. Those three hours after the blowout. The week of exchanged text messages. And now this. Confirmation that they’re interested in the same thing. That he’s not going to get his ass kicked for something he thought they both wanted. The corner of his lip tilts up. He bumps Az with his knee under the table. “Surprised you can even work a cell phone, what with your geriatric status.”

There was a lot more i wanted to do for this piece but I use autodesk sketchbook and only had 32 layers to work with. Also- I worked on that hand all night last night and when I opened the file this morning all of those layers were gone so I'm glad I had a screenshot. But that was my limit for this drawing, it decided we were done, lol.

Good Omens Fan Fic Friday (Nov 15, 2024) - Current Best of the Best
After too much frustration trying to find fics I loved but lost track of, I started using a spreadsheet. I rate everything I read. But for a few fics, the highest rating isn't enough. So I highlight them. These are the fics that kept me thinking. That "love" is not too strong a word for. Fics that I can't imagine ever forgetting. I'm sure the list will grow longer. Because writers keep writing. But this is my list today. First, is A Portrait in Synesthesia (M) by DiminishingReturns. In this remarkable, canon adjacent tale, God creates earth over and over, making subtle changes each time. Despite the differences, Crowley and Aziraphale always manage to find each other using their synesthetic senses. Lovely. And romantic. Next is My Favorite Ghost (T) also by DiminishingReturns with art by cassieoh_draws. Aziraphale and Crowley are discorporated. When Aziraphale finally gets his new body and returns to earth, it's hundreds of years later and everything has changed. Worst of all, Crowley is nowhere to be found. A lovely post-apocalyptic tale in which humans act on their better natures. A heartwarming read for difficult times. In So Much Discounted (T) WanderingAlice, Crowley disappears just after a discussion about love. And it's up to Aziraphale to bring him back. Don't want to give too much away. But we get to enjoy BAMF!Aziraphale if being a badass means you're steeped in love. And there is some amazing Crowley characterization. And finally, an AU story, Echo by snae_b. Each morning, barista Aziraphale wakes up and goes to work. But why does the chauffeur, Crowley, seem so familiar even though they have never met. Surprising. I could absolutely see this being a movie or mini-series.

Good Omens Fic Rec: Boyfriend Debut
It’s fucking on camera. It’s not that complicated.
Length: 20,045 words
AO3 Rating: Explicit / Spice Level 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Best for: After Dark, Human AU, Pick-me-Up
Triggers: None
Read it here, fic by snae_b
*Minor Spoilers* It's for purely professional fic reviewer reasons that I've reread this fic multiple times, it's my job after all, nothing weird about it. Truly it's my professional interest only that brought me back, not the idea of these two very skilled porn stars finding something completely new and fulfilling in each other. Certainly not their overwhelming chemistry and trust in each other. Ok, bit over. I love this story. It's sexy, it's romantic, its fun. It's a unique setting that shouldn't work for Aziraphale and yet of course it does. Our pair are professional porn actors here. Aziraphale is known for being a generous and supportive scene partner, and Crowley has been pigeonholed into this Dom Top persona that isn't what he truly desires. When they are paired for a shoot together, the sparks fly. It's filthy, but also so tender and sweet. Lots of flirting and banter that should be for the cameras, but is earnest and real. This is tons of fun and I would absolutely love to spend more time with this specific iteration. I know they are going to have such a fun and loving time together!

I so agree. Honestly I hold fics to a novel-level standard. I like getting absolutely lost in it exactly as you said. And some of you could literally change the names in your human aus and get them published they're that incredible. But I thank you for not doing it, and allowing me to read your stories for free. It had inspired me to not only read more but to dabble in writing myself because it somehow makes the process less scary. Like a story can be fun to make like a drawing instead of a school essay.
Thank you all for sharing your beautiful talent and minds. I love you!! 🤎🤎
To My Beloved Long-Fic Authors,
I’ve been a fan of yours since the beginning. Ever since the first time I opened AO3 and dared to glance down at the long menu of good omens fictions, yours always caught my eye the most. The ones I could snuggle up with a blanket and loose myself in for hours or days at a time. The ones where I can get intimately close with your versions of the characters and your worlds, feeling as though I’ve been transported somewhere else completely, somewhere familiar but new, for extended periods of time. Those are my favorite.
Now, I love all types of fan writing. I love a tasting menu of amuse-bouche one-shots that somehow make me laugh and cry in barely any words, or the beautiful prose of a palate cleansing poem written with the care and love of an entire novel. I love the 15-30k word “snack” that allows me a break from my day-to-day doldrums, enabling me to pick and choose bits that suit me but also free me up for more quickly. I love them all.
But the intimacy and care of a long-fic, with an intricate plot and drawn out character development that leaves me with a lingering feeling of being incomplete when it’s done, because friends I’ve come to love have moved on? Those are my favorites. They are decadent three-course meals for my soul, and I can never get enough.
And they’re SO MUCH WORK. So I thank all of you for your service. All fanwork creators, but for this particular post, long-fic authors specifically. You’re doing the Lord’s work, and I appreciate every one of you.

This week I have mostly been reading...
May 13-19th, 2024
New idea I've had, and hopefully something I'll have time to do once a week on a Sunday. Over the past seven days, I have devoured the following Good Omens fanfics, and I recommend these most heartily to you:
Completed works I've read this week:
Boyfriend Debut by snae_b Rated E - A & C are both porn actors. It sounds seedy. It's not. Holy Hell, it's not. It's one of the hottest things I've ever read, but also so, so sweet and delightful.
They Drink Tea At The End by @knifeforkspooncup Rated T - After a year spent in Heaven, A returns to C in the bookshop completely and utterly overstimulated in every sensory capacity. A wonderful, sweet story of them truly knowing each other and an excellent example of how the fandom relates to GO in so many beautiful ways.
Pay Per View by IneffableToreshi Rated E - A lovely story set in Canada, full of our so frequently seen miscommunication between A & C. And, as the author says: "Also, why the fuck is Aziraphale watching porn in their hotel room?! And taking notes?!"
Cranking Up The Heat by @vavoom-sorted-art Rated E - Well, the title says it all, really. And the fic's description: "The equivalent of that hot wings challenge, but with porn." Don't really want to say much more, as you've gotta see it to enjoy it.
On The Same Page by Chekhov Rated E - A fake marriage fic with Only One Bed. A & C are both authors, but two very different ones. Excellently written with very vividly described mental struggles with internal homophobia & self loathing.
A Model Guardian by Fuuma_san Rated E - As a former model, I found this fic really interesting. I'd genuinely love to know what the author's tie/experience in the industry is. C is a model, A is their bodyguard. An interesting tale which involves some great discussion on gender.
In The Room Where You Sleep by @mrghostrat Rated E - Another banger by ghostrat, posted in its entirety this week. In a reversal to many other fics I've seen, A is a vampire and C is a vampire hunter. *Homer Simpson voice* With sexy results. ;)
WIPs which have updated this week (which I devour as soon as I get the update!)
There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out by @phoen1xr0se Rated M - A is a researcher (puffins!), C is a lighthouse keeper on the island where A has run away to to escape his problems and do his research. The author has recently spent a week studying puffins - which is the ultimate dedication, if you ask me. Ch 9/26 posted this week
Find The Light by @klikandtuna Rated E - Headmaster A and Rockstar C. The story teases out a fraught history between them whilst keeping a tension between them in the modern day. Ch 4/? posted this week.
Terminus by @emotional-support-demon-crowley Rated T - Astronaut A is guided back to Earth by controller C after 92 years in space. There are many difficulties both of them have to face and they develop an amazing rapport. Ch 15/17 posted this week.
Oddity by @tsyvia48 Rated E - Actor C is contracted by (useless) Gabriel to guest curate an exhibition at the museum where A works. After getting off on the wrong foot, can they work together to pull off this show? Ch 22/24 posted this week.
Under The Summer Stars by @pannotbread Rated E - This wonderful fic has taught me more about physics than school ever did (mostly because I never did any physics, but...well). A & C have to share their time at an observatory because there is Only One Telescope. Not only will you learn about astrophysics, astrobiology, and astroecology, you'll also read some of the most poetically, beautifully written masturbation scenes I've ever seen. *ahem* Ch 6/13 posted this week.
Free by well, me: imposterssyndrome Rated E - A & C meet (again?) in an acute mental health ward after both having had mental health crises. A runs a bookshop but is very much under his parents' control. C has been homeless since childhood and has struggled his entire life. They do not trust each other when they first meet, but feel strangely drawn to one another all the same. Where will this lead them? This is a passion piece for me. There is a lot of lived experience in it, and extensive research from both professionals and peers. It has been a real journey for me to write it, and as I'm coming closer to the end it's becoming very emotional for me. Ch 43/? posted this week

Good Omens Fanfic Rec (26 Jul 2024)
No pattern to my list this week.
roots (10K; Rated M) by @forineffablereasons
A bit of silliness, a bit of angst, and a lot of sweetness in this short story that takes place in South Downs after they prevented the apocalypse.
Have you ever said something, and known, deep in the pit of your stomach, before anybody could even react, that you shouldn't have said it? That horrible, wretched feeling that makes you instantly want to take the words back?
Crowley did not have that feeling, and so plunged on.
“I didn’t even know your roots were that dark,” he said. “You could just miracle them, you know.”
***
blessed be (5K; Rated M) by @rainwritings
Crowley gets captured and held by occultists, and Aziraphale comes to his rescue. While the story says it's M-rated, it's a very, very light M for the non-graphic aftermath of torture.
***
The Mills of God Grind Slowly (9K; Rated E) by @a-causidicus
Aziraphale signs up for Grindr. Crowley does not care for it.
***
Thieves of Mercy (64K; Rated T) by @amuseoffyre
Human AU. Aziraphale and Crowley are rival master art thieves. They're both very, very good at their careers, but they have different methods of achieving their goals. A bit of Leverage meets Good Omens. I know there are a few art thief stories, but I don't know if I've seen this one recommended before.
The Serpent has a reputation in the art world. A master thief who can wriggle into the tightest spots and extract the most well-protected paintings from the richest people in the world. He’s never even come close to being caught.
Except just now. For a crime he didn’t commit. In a museum where he was scoping out his next job.
Crowley’s not one to be petty but he’s not about to let anyone frame him, even if the person in question seems to be nothing more than an innocent, wide-eyed art restorer who works in the museum…
***
Tenderfoot (37K; Rated E) by @snae-b
Human AU. Another fantastic, recently-completed sci-fi story by snae_b. Far in the future, humans have started colonizing other planets. Aziraphale is a guardian, tasked with protecting the colonists of the planet, Earendel. Crowley is a newly-arrived colonist from the dangerous and troubled station, Ophiuchus, who is willing to do anything to keep his nephew, Adam, back on Ophiuchus, from falling down the same path he fell down. Good thing the mining corporation running the colony isn't evil or anything.
***
Also, while I don't normally rec WIPs in my Friday threads unless they're only a chapter or two away from the end, I've been beta-reading this amazing story, The Last Angel (78K currently; Rated E) by @bellisima-writes, where Aziraphale and Crowley never met and Hell won the war. So very addictive and so very much worth diving into and subscribing to.

Hi! I'd like to rec Search and Rescue by snae_b. It's a human au where Aziraphale is a cameraman and Crowley does Search and Rescue operations in the Rocky Mountians. (And Bentley is an avalanche dog!) Its an absolute delight and am surprised it doesn't have more kudos.
Hello! Thank you for sending along this recommendation!
Search and Rescue by snae_b for marsch00 [Rated E, 18K words]
“Mount Meeker. Small avalanche from the sound of it, R2, R3 maybe. But we’ve got two missing hikers, caught in the powder, so at least a D2 in terms of force. Bentley and I are out first. Adam, you’re on extraction gear, Pepper, you’re on medical. We don’t know what shape these folks are in.” He finally sets his gaze squarely on Aziraphale, his eyes flick to the lens of his camera and back up again. “Stay out of the way.”
Aziraphale packs his camera gear and heads to the Rocky Mountains to film with an elite search and rescue team. Turns out the terrain isn't his only challenge.

Random fic rec, by yours truly...
okay have you noticed I changed the "weekly" for random? yeah... LMAO. My mind is bad with deadlines. i got nervous near every Saturday, even though i had something to recommend and write about. Anyways. Now it will be random, in the hopes i can do this more often 💛And this time, I come with another special edition:
PODFIC GALORE!
I've been absolutely crazy in the past few weeks over podfics. Yk, one of the saddest things to me was that I couldn't read fanfiction and work at the same time. I had to spent 8 hours of my day off the marvellous world that is Ao3, and it made me sad... but then... then I discovered that there are AMAZING people out there recording fics and that my level of English was already good enough that I could totally understand it and still be focused enough in whatever I was doing (that is an exciting news for me XD) aand then I discovered that it was even nicer to get home and lay in the dark, letting my eyes rest after spending the whole day in front of computer, and still listen to these amazing fics... ANYWAYS suffice to say in the past weeks I've been listening non stop to everything i can get my hands on.
Tumblr media
Flaming Hair, Stardust In His Eyes - Rated T, ~2,2k words, ~15 min
Fic by @waitingtobebroken , podfic by devilwithabirddress
Ouch. This fic is just so... poetic and sad and soft. I love how the story is told, how the it fits in the space canon left behind. I love the awe in Aziraphales pov, I love him asking about the starmaker. The descriptions of the breakroom are so fun, the characters are so well written. And the narration is AMAZING. The acting in some lines from got my heart all melted 😭 the pacing is very nice, and the feelings really hit.
Factory Settings - Rated T, ~107k words, ~8 hours (on going)
Fic by Anonymus , Podfic by @nosferatini
I feel like everybody knows at this point about the fic, so i won't say more about it besides that I LOVE THIS FIC AND BINGE READ IT BARELY SLEEPING UNTIL I FINISHED IT, obviously, like many others. And the podfic is soooooo good!! the art that go with the chapters are all so good, the music is so good, the narration is so good. I LOVE the Raphael's voice. It's absolutely perfect. Every time that I read a fic with the starmaker in it (or any before the fall Crowley) is that voice that pops in my mind.
Protect and Serve - Rated E, ~84k words, ~9 hours
Fic by Snae_b , podfic by @outrageousring5655
hmmmmmmn this fic... Look if you ever read anything by Snae_b yk what I'm talking about. The smut there is always breathtaking! and the plot in this one, DEAR GOD. I was on my toes. I love the tension, how the story is unveiled little by little... the twists. gosh it's so good! AND HEARING IT. Damn. ok. look there were parts that made me questions if it really was the best idea to listen to it at work, bc well *ahem* *points at all the smut* but it was soooo worth it. I learned that i have a GREAT poker face. Anyways. Outrageous voice acting is so good, I love it! all the voices, all the feelings. Amazing narration!
I'm always in awe with this fandom. All the podfics I've listened until now are golden. When i read now i have VOICES in my head LMAO
I also have so MANY more podfics I could rec. I think I've listened to almost podfic by Outrageous and Nosferatini already, and then there's also podifixx and so many others I'm finding on Ao3... I HIGHLY recommend everyone to give podfics a go. They're so good 💛💛💛

Ok friends, fic rec time!! Idk how much crossover there is in the whole sci-fi nerd/GO fandom, but I’m willing to bet it’s a fair bit. If this is you, boy oh boy do I have a treat in store. If you haven’t read anything by Snae_b on A03, you’re already missing out. The longer fics all have plot and lost have action to spare. The pining and prose are lovely, the smut is excellent, there’s a lot of variety. But Snae has a knack for writing sci-fi with our boys in the thick of it, and they are GOOD at it. World building and history and intrigue. The details bound up in the inherit questions of humanity and morality that good science fiction always has.
Im going to recommend Echo here. The follow up in the same universe is Lunacy many, many years later. Whatever you think is happening in the beginning, you’re going to go “WHAT!?”
I’d follow that up with Tribute and then the WIP Tenderfoot set in the same universe as Tribute. Here’s the link. Enjoy!

Fic Rec Cheat Sheet
These are the ones I keep recommending over and over again.
(I'm not including the obvious big ones e.g. Slow Show, Pray for Us Icarus, Demonology, Shotgun Wedding, False and the Fair) since someone else will usually bring those up. always crashing (in the same car) by mayhawk 32k, E, Cannon time loop disaster romance. Probably in my top 3 ever.
Rearrangements by sheendav E, 60k, Human AU, the slowest burn possible (they don't even talk for like 30k). Note this is set up so you can read it as M / skip the smut. Very thoughtful chapter warnings.
The Pillow Fort E Human AU touch-starved slow burn by Kalimyre (check out others by this author -- mind the tags!)
Or Be Nice by charlottemadison Another Human AU by the author of Shotgun Wedding that I might actually like even more! They are absolutely the worst disasters.
Car Trouble. by summerofspock E University prof and mechanic get greasy (lots of romance and idiots to lovers plot too!)
Long Haul by snae_b E, they are truckers and it is somehow the most adorable Human AU ever. Fun to read as a set with Car Trouble!
Factory Settings by Anonymous (!) 106k, T, Cannon post S2. This is my season 3 until further notice. Now with a podfic by @nosferatini!
Someone is Calling Him Shorewards by harlotofgod, (tumblr: @harlotofupdog) E, 61k, Human AU classical gothic romance on a spooky island. There’s also a great, moody af, podfic!
Among the Stacks by MeinirRhos 65k, E, Cannon, memory loss, library, what more could you ask for?
a lighthouse (burning) by books-and-omens (everybody_lives) 108k, E, Not going to spoil it by getting into details but this definitely went in unexpected directions!
Echo by snae_b * 51k E. A new favorite! Summary is "This isn’t your average coffee shop AU." and that's all I want to say as it's a crazy ride! But so well written and creative. You're gonna wanna check this out. *only just realized this is also the author of Long Haul -- talk about genre range!

I'm sorry this is the most random off the wall question to ask you but, you were talking about snae_b the other day and I gotta know if you have any idea if they have a Tumblr?
I want to yell at them for their Dominion arc (I'm going through their backlog and they got it into 3 (4???) stories now and keep jump scaring me with it lmao)
I'm also almost caught up with all their multi chap fics, and I'm all caught up on yours....so next question I suppose is who's next? Vol or Summerofspock?
i believe they’re @snae-b!
if u like human AUs, my rec is for feraltuxedo 😇 their fics vary so much in length and theme, ive really only scraped the surface but love everything ive read of theirs
idk how anyone could read vol or summer (or naro, or zehwolf) in one go, instead of peppering them in between everything else u read and coming back to them like well cracked spines. they’re so good and tasty i can’t put any of them down for more than a day

It is truly unfair that you can't read something for the first time again.
Does anyone else actually have like a post-read crash?
Let me put you on to a fic:
Lunacy by Snae_b (rated E)
(I'm sorry, @snae-b I've been binging your fics. I'm not ashamed!)
I have NEVER in my LIFE been unable to sleep after reading anything. I was up until 3 am last night reading this, unable to sleep and also unable to put it down. I've gasped, I've cried, I've had that second-hand pain thing when a character gets hurt where you feel like you have to hold your skin together. This is an absolute wild ride of emotions, and I WISH I could read it for the first time again.
If you've seen the movie 'Life' (2017) and liked it, you will LOVE this fic. Its A space-horror-but-also-a-gripping-romance that leaves you absolutely terrified, confused, worried, and gripping the edge of your seat just to find out what happens next. Even as the reader you don't know what you can trust.
To me, the stakes just feel higher when you aren't looking out for just yourself but the person you love. Who you'd do anything for. You know that if you were on your own, you might not care whether you made it through. But you can't imagine what you'd do in a world without them.
I could go on and on. Go read it!
