Soap who doesn't like smoking, didn't become addicted (or not in the traditional sense), not reqlly a fan of the way it sits on his tongue, the smell just this side of too pungent, whatever. He picked it up in his pre-army shitbag years for some reason, but now it feels weird if he skips his post-lunch 12:30 single fag smoke. He doesn't so much care about missing the smoke, moreso that it throws off the routine and makes him feel like he forgot to do something.

So when he and Ghost start getting closer, and it turns out he's spending most of his time with the man he doesn't totally care that he misses his after lunch smoke break.

It throws him off a little when one day when he follows Ghost out to the smoking area, not really thinking much about it, and the man pulls out a pack of fags. He rolls up his mask, pulls one out, and sets it between his lips before offering the pack to Soap. And it's always been easy for soap to bend this social reject out of the way, and Ghost only makes it all the more easier, so he takes one as offered. Ghost flicks a flame on his lighter, offers it to Soap first, like a gentleman. Soap accepts. It sits uncomfortably, albeit practiced, at the edge of his lip, but he lets it.

He hadn't know Ghost smoked, hadn't even had a clue that Ghost would ever need a quick smoke before. Maybe he doesn't mind a fag or two in good company.

I'm thinking of making Devil Eyes Officer Y/N a smoker, not like a chain smoker, but one who had previously smoked before joining the police academy and had quit, and then once inflicted with Eclipse's torment, turned back to smoking as an unhealthy coping mechanism (this would also include, of course, Eclipse's reaction to such a thing (he does not like it)), but, I'm afraid this will be a turnoff?? for readers?? so let me just ask
