Personally I think that a lot of ‘the bad guy was right, ackchually’ takes like with magnifico is just sheer online contrarianism rather than a sincere critique.

With him yeah, it’s like because people think the movie is bad it means the villain is actually right after all due to them projecting their feelings onto the character. I mean, if the story and protagonist suck and the villain hates them, then clearly they’re the good guy! That’s how that works!

The only time I can think where this is actually true is The Emoji Movie. The entire premise justifies all Smiler’s actions but she’s still portrayed as a villain. And because people think the movie sucks and Gene sucks, they say she’s right. And she is honestly.
