This was a fantastic Christmas special! This really punched me in the gut (but in a good way). Everything, as always, was amazing. Excellent job, Team!!! Too bad Clench couldn't be in the whole episode.

Tari, I've been there and I promise your friends aren't gonna leave you. What you can offer, what you're able to, that is worth something. It doesn't need to be material, just being a part of their lives is enough. No matter how big, because to them, it could mean a lot more than what you think.

It's what I've been struggling too, that the people who have approached me only wanted what I could offer, but not as a person. And it takes time to heal and open up again to people who are worth opening up to, but you'll get there.

So, to remind you (yes, the one behind the screen): you are enough. We are enough. What you do, means a lot more to other people than what you think. You'd be surprised how much a second of your presence means to people, and they value that. It's why it's okay to say no when you aren't able to, they'll understand if they truly do care for you. I promise, time will come around for you to find the good ones.

That's why I love this show. It isn't just a "silly meme show", it's so much more than that. Yes, it does have its funny moments but it can be emotional, dramatic, exciting. And even relatable. That's the point of stories. Like I said countless times before:

Every story, no matter how outlandish it seems, is grounded in reality.

That's why I'm glad this was one of the last episodes of the year, to bring it all back that it's a story that we all can relate to in some way. That we aren't alone. Grab each other by the hand and take one day at a time.

Oh boy, sorry for that emotional stuff. Just wanted to bring some comfort 💙 With that, I'm gonna bring back what was the most interesting of this episode: SMG3

It wasn't until the very end that we realized this whole episode was Three retelling Tari's story not only to Eggdog but also to Terrance.

(If I remember the layout correctly, right in the same nook above the fireplace is where Terrance's photo is placed)

So, yes, he is reading a bedtime story to both of his sons. (just gonna cry in the corner for a second) He's such a dad 🥺

Anyway, i shall put my theorist goggles on:

Back in the part when Tari was too late to buy the Crew presents and the voices in her head were bashing her for failing, we have SMG3 for some reason come in:

To be clear, that's Four's model (notice the lack of chip of the cap) but Three is the one saying: "And I thought I was evil..." Other than being the narrator, Three wasn't in the story, so the question is why?

The obvious would be that the Team simply made a mistake and forgot that they placed this in. Ok, sure, that's if it was on accident. But what if they did it on purpose?

As Three stated in the episode "Trash Friends", he truly believes he's "the worst version of SMG4"

Think about it: the basic roles for them are Four as the hero and Three as a villain.

If Three was ever in an episode all of a sudden is because he is the negative force of the story. Recall back to the episode "Meme Hunters" when Three was forced to be "the conflict" of the episode.

Now, it may seem harmless but to him, he was afraid to be perceived as nothing more than "SMG4's cheap and worst copy"

And also in "You Used to Be Cool", people have noticed when he does lay back a bit from the usual villain/rival role and bash him saying, "This isn't you."

Hero or villain, you're seen differently by everybody

Then there was the whole "moral of the story" part:

Ofc, it's a whole thing that Three refuses time after time that he's not friends with the Crew

Now with the context that we have, we just got a peek into Three's fears/insecurities. Basically: if he opens up and accepts that he has friends, they might try and take advantage of him. So, what should he do? Close himself off, be an asshole, and deny, deny, deny.

Despite risking literally everything, INCLUDING HIS OWN LIFE, for them, he's doing this to protect himself from emotional harm when he's the most vulnerable.

There's indeed a trope that villains, especially redeemed ones, would have a sense of empathy of some kind. They know what's like to hit rock bottom, it's why they can empathize with the people who least deserve it, like Tari. (Even with Four back in IGBP.) So yes, as much as this is a story about Tari, it also relates to Three.

How can you have what you want when you're the one holding yourself back?

Three: "I also need love, understanding, and tenderness." [IGBP movie, Spanish dub] Three: " I just want the USB in that spaghetti in your stomach so I can use it to gain fame and love that SMG4 has too much of, okay?!" Mario: "...Is that it? Silly SMG3, you could of just told Mario instead of suppressing your inner emotions and your fear of being forever forgotten." [Trash Friends]

I mean, look at the last episode, he was so happy to know he got fanart.

The pressure he has, the role he has to play, what he's perceived as. It all affects him. Sure, he doesn't care that he's not perceived as the standard definition of a villain but he is really as human as he can be, with fears and desires.

Another way to see the "failure" part of the episode is that Three could never see Four in a negative light. Sure, Four has made terrible mistakes but past the YouTube Arc, Three has never seen Four as a villain (again, the role of the hero thing). Four is flawed just as he is, but since he's the one telling Tari's story, he replaces Four with himself in the narrative.

It's not confirmed it's because he cares about Four in this instant but it's obvious he has done it on purpose. All because that's the role he plays, one he absolutely fears, "an evil and worst copy of Four".

(For all we know, he might've altered some other things in the story we haven't even known about.)

AND the fact that he's telling it like a bedtime story to his son(s) as a warning, so they don't go through what he went through when he was younger (his whole parenting of reminding them that they're loved and appreciated for even the smallest things)

So, long story short: me 🤝 Tari 🤝 SMG3 → underlining abandonment issues

I've been noticing that a lot of points from past episodes are starting to resurface again (like IGBP) and I do hope we get to bring back what's going on with Three. Then, we might get Three having the same conclusion that Tari went through: as much as he wants to deny it to protect himself, he'll realize that it's okay to be vulnerable and have friends.

And he'd be surprised how much of what he did was valuable to them. That what he seeks is already right in front of him. After all, he's already part of the Crew :)

He would just have to let himself avert his view and see the truth.

Had an idea for a Computer Deity character in the AU.

Archive, the personification of the Digital Multiverse's memory. He knows the entire history of their version of the internet, though if you want to ask him about a particularly past event you have to know exactly what to ask for because that's way too much information for one Program to have in their active memory so he has to go digging through his code's massive storage section, and if you're not specific enough he might not be able to find the right story.

He also moonlights as the Digital Multiverse's version of Santa Claus. Many Servers (particularly ones based on popular media like the SMG worlds) do, admittedly, have their own version, or even multiple, but he does it for everybody. He's even got a North Pole-themed home Server and appropriately Christmas-y assistant Programs (and assistant Viruses. Internet Santa doesn't discriminate).

So quick, announcement before I start discussing about the something I noticed about the TV adware in smg4, I will be inactive for the rest of the of this week due to finals. But, I will return when break starts which is this weekend. Until then, Wish me luck. Anyways continuing.

I talked about something on twitter the other day about the ‘Mysterious TV Man’ in Smg4 So, I’m just going to copy and paste it onto here

I just realized that the mysterious TV is in theme with past technology that was mostly know from 1950’s-1990’s because of how the tv communicates with the people he turns into antagonists (smg4, one shot wren, & Marty.)

First, In IGBP we see This TV guy pop up on smg4s computer. And from what I know, this seems to be a pop up ad. Now, from what I’ve gathered, pop up ads were most popular from 1990-2000’s. And we all know this is most how the Actual TV was able to communicate with smg4.

Next, In Western Spaghetti, One shot wren was delivered a letter from the TV (Logo on the envelope), which is Implied to be talking about the address for where the simulation computer was. Although this wasn’t through technology, it’s still an old way of communication.

Not to mention, the Vintage TV model that appears in ‘Ready to ride?’ And Western spaghetti. (Vintage TVs were popular from the 1950’s-1960’s.)

Then, in WOTFI Marty receives a fax through the printer in Mario’s pizza shop, which revealed the existence of the ultimate secret pizza recipe inside of Smg3s notebook. Results showed that Fax was popular around the 1980’s-1990’s.

And then we finally have the Mysterious TV guy, which is obviously shown the be some Vintage TV model, appearing to be a product from a company called ‘PuzzleVision’.

I find it really interesting that the TV Adwear is shown multiple times to be associated with products from the past. Whether or not this will affect the final outcome of how the TV situation wraps up is an idea that I find being a possibility. It only just clicked today about how the TV only uses mid 1900’s forms of contacting people as well as technology, and I haven’t seen anyone point it out yet. Not sure if this is useful information or not, but just thought it was interesting.

How did your version of Hal’s wife die?

Same way as the canon one.

In “SMG4: If Mario was in… Squid games”, it’s revealed that Hal’s wife needs surgery of some kind and that’s why Hal is competing for the money. Without it, his wife will surely die.

Of course, Hal did NOT win Squid Games; Mario did.

So, this implies that Hal was never able to get the money needed for his wife’s surgery and therefore, she died.

Although we did see her after this, 2 months later in the Christmas Special of 2021, it’s entirely possible that she was able to make it until Christmas and then shortly died afterwards. Correct me if I’m wrong, but we have not seen her since then.

So, I am of the belief that Hal’s wife is canonically dead and he is a single father trying to raise a toaster whilst stopping all crime in the kingdom.

why is SMG1 standing like that. They both look lovely here. It’s also just sweet that Four invited them to go on the group vacation. They might not hang out much outside of apocalyptic events but SMG4 still considers them friends and part of the group and they get invited to go to all the Christmas parties and go on vacation and it’s just sweet. Too bad it turned into The Horrors, they could really use an actual vacation.

Okay but when after the castle and three's coffee shop got burned down by santa clause, where do you see that bright explanation from the crew.

AND LITERALLY. SMG3 IS ON TSUNDERE MODE ACTIVATION WHERE HE- BLUSHED- I mean its okay- its totally fine its perfectly normal.

Not for three. He never celebrated christmas in the early 2020 not even after the arc but four was kind enough to invite three in the recent years to make him have to experience whats special about it.

But three was too embarrassed from four's crew because they've shown alot of kindness towards him that he'd never experienced at all and this was his first time hearing it all out on them.

After he says "f-friends?!" He continues on playing "I'd rather die than have you guys as friends"

Which also meant he did. Almost. Die. Saving four.

Did you notice smg4 in this scene? Did you see the way he looked at three? Did you SEE how he giggled and laughed just by seeing his expression?

Heart tingles you know? And this IS also the first time he's done that.

WOW SMG4 THAT BACK HOLD AT THREE WAS SUPER SMOOTH I'M OBVIOUSLY BLIND TO MYSELF THAT I CANT "SEE" WITH MY OWN EYES.

And NOT ONLY THAT- EVERYONE'S REACTION WERE THE SAME PLACE EXCEPT WHO? MARIO.

Not only was it delicious- Three too was smiling at four, supporting his idea and not even LEAVING by his side. (Like have you noticed right after both of their places got destroyed- these two completely HAVE NEVER SEPARATED AND STUCK CLOSE TOGETHER?)

This also provens he's on the right role after all. His character development did improve his changing around his friends even after 2020th - 2022nd

Who knows that maybe four's crew knew that three wasn't so bad after all? That he was just in need of friends because he'd been so alone from time to time?

Still. He smiles. Not just for the holiday spirit, but to his new friends, and four to have on. (Mention of mario makes turkey for upcoming xmas episode four convinced EVERYONE from the crew including three, BUT HE NEVER LEFT BY HIS SIDE. Literally the moon is stuck with the sun)

Four and three? They both contacted atleast EVERYONE from town they know. (Even three never considered belle, whimpu, or the so called fake-other-versions of theirs who became his crew during 2020th wotfi he still has a heart to consider them all as being in part of his life.)

We never get a mistletoe scene sadly but we had a precious smg34 collection here...

Even after this hand taking, Three and Four looked at eachother together before they start to sway and celebrate the christmas holiday.

You dont see these fruits being like that often, so its a very rare one in the new episodes. (Considered again. Three has gone soft. TOO soft for being with four's crew and being with... smg4...)

He wasnt even angry or done with this bs he still had that christmas spirit and all that matters is celebrating it with four and his other new friends.

The christmas special speaks for itself i think (an episode where someone ruins something and maryo gets the blame for it. ALSO they retconned how melony got axol jr in the first place she did NOT get him at a pet store MARYO GAVE THAT AXOLOTL TO HER) so i wont say much about it

The resurrection. Just makes me mad . I feel very strongly about maryos feelings constantly being sidelined/played off as a joke to make way for Other characters feelings. This episode is a prime example of that . Maryo is grieving greg . Meggy takes the spotlight with implications of desti . Dude

Now listen im not saying it was wrong for meggy to still not be over desti but Come On. Maryo was on his knees crying and all they did was turn it into a life lesson of "Maybe we shouldnt mess with the afterlife..." .+#)!& DUDE!!!!! DUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And then his grief got played off as COMEDIC!!!!!!!!!!! Meggy already got a whole movie dedicated to her and desti we couldnt have gotten a 5 second scene of someone patting maryos back and telling him its gonna be ok

The Its Gotta Be Perfect movie.... oohh boy. I Liked the movie. I really realy liked the movie. I just dont think it fit with what the climax previously set up .

Like. Okay. You have mar10 day. Maryo sets up this whole party to celebrate himself. He plans a special event to basically say "Shoutout to my bestfriend in the whole wide world" but his best friend is crazed and extremely. Not himself.

Party ends up being wrecked. Maryo spends the entire episode CRYING because the person he was going to give the award to ruined everything

Sounds like the movies gonna be about maryo and four reconciling right? Sounds like theyre gonna save four and then fours gonna apologise to maryo for doing all of that right? WRONG! MARYO GETS COMPLETELY SIDELINED FOR THREE TO TAKE THE SPOTLIGHT. HELLO
