Results: Let me tell you a story.

The first time it snowed really bad this season, our snow blower wasn’t working and I had to go out and shovel the driveway. I wound up getting wind burn pretty bad on my face. According to the internet, the best thing I could do to help it heal was to keep it moisturized. So I dug into my little cache of skincare products to see what I could come up with.

I added this product to my routine as an essence because it contains some nice hydrating ingredients. While it is a primer essence, meaning that it can be used at multiple steps in your skincare/makeup routine, I mainly used it as an essence. And you know what? I thought it was a helpful little boost. 

I did occasionally use this as a primer, if you are curious. After my moisturizer, I would spritz another layer of this on, then apply my CC cream. I don’t know that it really made a difference in the application. There are probably better primers out there. 

Comps: If you are looking specifically for multitasking primers, Smashbox’s other Photo Finish primers are also multitasker products like this one. Those are all going to be around the same price. Milani Make It Last Setting Spray Prime + Correct + Set is also a possibility but with fewer actives. Milani Supercharged Dewy Skin Primer brightens in addition to priming skin for makeup application. Nyx also makes a few multitasking primers including: Angel Veil Lightweight Skin Perfecting Vegan Primer and Plump Right Back Electrolytes Plumping Primer Serum. 

If, however, you are more interested in a hydrating essence or mist for skincare, there are options out there, although they don’t include the same multitasking ingredients as this one. 

I’ve mentioned them before, but MyClarins RE-FRESH Hydrating Beauty Mist; Mad Hippie Hydrating Nutrient Mist; Dr. Andrew Weil for Origins Mega-Mushroom Soothing Hydra-Mist with Reishi and Snow Mushroom; Cocokind Glow Essence; Good Molecules Hyaluronic Acid Boosting Essence are all good choices. And unlike this product, these are all Clean Ingredient formulas.

For a more no-nonsense approach, you could pick up a Rosewater + Glycerin Facial Mist (or just Rosewater). These are super nourishing, hydrating ingredients, and they aren’t expensive at all.
