Even despite it currently being nighttime, it’s not dark at all. Glowing streetlights and neon signs merge together to form a kaleidoscopic whirl of riotous colors illuminating the world around them, all polished streets and sleek roads. If one strains and listens, there’s a soft whirring in the background, the sound of cars speeding along the winding roads of the highway.

Firefly takes a moment to gaze outwards and appreciate the sight. After all, once the Stellaron Hunters have finished their work on Jepella, there’s no doubt that this scene would be replaced by fire and smoke instead. This city would be overcome with fear and terror, in wake of the chaos that would follow the fall of the Jepella Brotherhood.

But nonetheless, the Stellaron Hunters would continue moving forward.

Firefly withdraws her gaze from their current surroundings, returning her attention to the companions currently sitting together with her in the car. Blade is in the driver’s seat, eyes fixed on the road while both hands rest upon the steering wheel. Shiki is sitting in the back, hands folded neatly in her lap and eerily still. Blue eyes stare forward evenly without even once turning to take in their surroundings –even though Firefly knows for a fact that this is Shiki’s first time setting foot in Jepella.

… It would be nice if Silver Wolf was here, but unfortunately the younger girl is otherwise occupied in this operation. Blade and Shiki are the least talkative members of the Stellaron Hunters, and while this isn’t a mark against them or anything… it does make for a long car ride.

Firefly doesn’t consider herself to be a chatty, socially-canny conversationalist. Compared with the two sitting in the car with her, though, she might as well be a social butterfly.

“I never knew that you could drive before,” Firefly says to Blade, casting about for idle conversation to fill the long stretch of silence.

Neither of the two other Stellaron Hunters so much as even twitch, but at least Blade responds with a small grunt of assent in acknowledgment of her words.

Silence reigns inside the car once more.

“… Do you have a driver’s license?”

“Yes.”

Progress! He’s responding with words now. “That’s surprising.”

“Why?” Blade slants a brief glance at her, before returning his attention to the road. “Because this is Jepella, the City of Sins?”

“Mm, no, it’s nothing.” Firefly wonders when he had the time to go and get a driver’s license, considering that the Stellaron Hunters were all wanted criminals. The thought of Blade showing up and being tested on his practical driving skills by a proctor is amusing… even though in all likelihood, it was probably Silver Wolf who’d made all the necessary preparations and arrangements. Pity. “You haven’t slept in twenty system hours, though. Are you sure you’re feeling okay?”

“I’m fine. I won’t die from this.” Firefly is aware that Blade is effectively immortal, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t accrue mental fatigue just as any other person would. He doesn’t seem like he’s tired, but it’s hard to get a proper read on him.

… Shiki, too.

Kafka is the only one who can tell what the two of them are thinking, but Kafka is in the Jepella Palace right now.

Firefly cranes her neck and turns around in her seat to glance at the other girl in the car, “How are you feeling, Shiki?”

“… Alright.”

Inwardly, Firefly cheers. When they’d first picked Shiki up from her barren homeworld, the girl had been… not very responsive at all, to say the least. Questions and attempts at making conversation were met with silence more often than not. And despite her physical presence on the ship, oftentimes it almost felt as if her mind was elsewhere.

Elio is very careful with her, and Shiki’s role on most of the Stellaron Hunters’ missions tends to be observation more often than not. It has to do with her abilities –her eyes and what she can see with them, Firefly knows. Abyssal blue eyes, ringed with a red-violet, prismatic glow. Very beautiful, and also very deadly.

… There’s a faint sheen to them that’s almost glittery, too, like stardust. Firefly doesn’t think that this shimmer used to be there in the beginning, but it’s a little hard to say for certain.

She should probably ask Kafka or Elio about it, once this mission is over.

by the way I think we should just decide that every single story that's in a setting that's Weird™, you know, that's unsettling™ - they all exist in the same universe. Yes, all of them, on an Earth that is massive and warped from the strain of having so many realities together, all of them.

There's a weird island off of Michigan where some deities are playing bad monopoly and there's a desert that sometimes appears where terrible scenarios lead into restaurant ads and there's a run-down dinky museum of fake spectacles surrounded by real ones and there's a gas station that smells terrible with a cowboy ghost in the bathroom and there's a world in a dream about a flame in an oil lamp and there's a facility that holds all the creatures that it can and there's a universe behind the walls that holds all the creatures that the facility can't and there's a frat house of weird retired serial killer creatures and there's everything that's going on with Magnus Archives and there's my dumb little fictional town there too and as many analogue horror shows as you can dream of and and and and

an uncountable amount of people die horrifically every day and no one bats an eye, and love prevails occasionally, and all the gods and demons and deities and eldritch beasts bicker and scream over dibs and territories. And slowly they all bleed in together until no one can tell what's happening at all anymore. The Apocalypse of Apathy, with everyone simply closing their eyes to wait for tomorrow, since everything is always normal tomorrow. It always resets, just to die again, but it always resets.

my narrator could definitely look more human or even have a full stylized human look but I think he would hate the idea of looking fully human to any extent. even his humanoid form would originally leave such a distaste for him because the feeling of control resides in not being the human, the player, but instead being the narrative. so it’s more of a ‘I would never stoop to being human to any extent because they are weak and powerless things that barely have any agency for themselves’ kind of thinking that only a certain button could break him out of that line of thinking

Meet the gobbo behind the silly

+ elements of character concept

In the beninging-

General reference and inspiration were based on my favorite characters, but before that I didn’t exactly have a sona to be my mascot/face. Early concepts were more human but without a face.

I have general anxiety with showing my face online. Which is pretty common. Now, I knew from the start that it was going to be something based on or drawn from mythology, something close to that from cultures I have ancestry in: Irish, British and general European/slavic mythology and folklore.

Elements of character concept:

I. Getting the ingredients — reference and mood board

Gobbo is definitely based loosely on fairytale goblins but more so the concept of Irish faeries and brownies! Or phooka. But didn’t become one until a few years later. Early gobbo was actually an opossum!

But for style and vibe, they’d be the following:

Clancy, Midnight Gospel

Snufkin, Moomin Valley

Pumkin, Baman and Piderman

Glep, Smiling Friends

Luci, Disenchantment

Smeargle, Pokémon

Bender, Futurama

Pipi, Legend of Pipi

Silly lil guy doodles, twitter and tumblr

Remember! Pinterest is your friend, but remember it will suck you in if you aren’t careful! A lot of characters are inspired by something, even preexisting characters! It’s ok to admit that!

It helps to start by redrawing the characters you are studying for ideas.

This is a really good skill to have under your belt, especially to figure out the core elements of the designs that stand out the most to you; or give you that twinkle in your eye that’s saying in the lil crow brain voice:

“Ooo, shiny ima add that to my stash!”

II. Getting the juices flowing!

You have your reference and mood board(s) so now what? Now it’s time to put it in the metaphorical blender (or greatest free animation program ever given to animators, game makers, 3d modelers and analogue or worthikids alike!) and pump out some ideas! If you’re like me and have trouble visualizing designs and looks, I’d recommend trying out the dnd miniature making, indie company and awesome community: HEROFORGE!

It’s all trial and error with designs so keep in mind that it won’t always be the first drawing that’ll be the final but

III. Time changes things

Continuing from the last point, your character is always changing and growing. In the span of five years (give or take) gobbo got smaller, started changing outfits and eventually got a mouth!

In lore PlanetaryFizz (name given to it by the head scientist) is the largest

It's a transdimensional entity that infiltrated the Aether Orbiter and assumed the appearance of the Aethers inside. It's not malignant, but it's not overly friendly. You could approach it but it's very dangerous to, it could kill you in an instant.

It's held in some sort of cell in the laboratory and is being studied. The head scientist, Hollunuo, has appointed himself the task of understanding this... Thing.

It's driving him mad though. At first he thought the cell actually contained the entity, but he quickly realized that no. The entity is staying in there willingly. It can leave whenever it wants to.

PlanetaryFizz' true size is unknown, but after the Orbiter returned to Sornieth and the entity was taken to the lab it grew in size. Significantly. It's about the size of a 3–4 story house currently.

"Considering how Kariom can HEAR THE VOICES OF THE STARS I'm sure he's very....gifted." 'Gifted' didn't even begin to cover what she actually wanted to say but alas, "And he'd absolutely make fun of me so let's just refrain from subjecting him to my rendition of singing." She really wanted to hear him sing now.....

Francis is kinda like the charming type of guy at work that everyone likes, just- cranked up a notch. He's calm but TOO calm sometimes and for some strange reason knows about the little details around everyone else that you wouldn't expect him to know. For example if you read the latest update on That Stupid Little Waiter, he noticed that Denis and Bernard are dating very quickly based on the very few times they almost slipped up. Not FULLY slipped, just ALMOST slipped. Also he can know who's the bottom in a relationship real quick LOL He's a lil gossiping shit at heart. I guess I can describe it as, he's too observant for his own good

He's that character in anime that always smile even when he's absolutely pissed off. Also kinda like that one character that always has his eyes closed in a ^_^ way but when he slightly opens his eyes, you know you're fucked cuz he looks... menacingly kind, is how I can describe it

Also some small tidbit about him, he used to be a model and still does it occasionally, just as a side gig because he enjoys being a baker more. And he loves styling his hair so feel free to put him in other hairstyles XD
