Short Stories:

Arôme d'Amour (Aroma of Love) (E, 3k) - Harry's in for a surprise when he's hit with a perfume that attracts only the true soulmate.

Sod Off Potter (T, 1.7k) - Draco regretted the decision to return to Hogwarts after the war. Why couldn't bloody Potter just leave him alone? It wouldn't be so bad if Draco hadn't been harboring a secret crush on Harry for years.

Drabbles:

Boyfriend or Faux? (G, 498) - Harry and Draco were concerned no one would believe in their fake relationship. However, it seemed they had no need to worry…

Christmas Closet (T, 499) - Serving detention with Malfoy was not how Harry had pictured his second to last day before the Christmas holidays. And he certainly didn't envision being trapped in a small storage cupboard with him either.

On Second Thought (E, 317) - Harry was annoyed at first to find out he'd be sharing a dorm with Draco Malfoy. But it wouldn't take long for him to change his mind.

WIPs

Unnamed 8th Year fic (E, ~130k+) - After the war, Harry is in denial about his failing relationship with Ginny, and in denial about his feelings for a blond Slytherin. But somehow 8th year might just turn out to be his best yet. (Currently at 110k+ words. First draft is complete! But still so much editing to do. Estimating finished fic to be around 130k+. Do not let me give up on this again! This has been a WIP for 12+ years, let's make 2025 the year it's finally complete.)

Unnamed Soulmarks AU fic (E, no w/c estimate yet) - Post-Epilogue. Harry denied his soulmark and married Ginny. Now many years later and divorced, maybe it's finally time to find his soulmate. Coincidentally the blossoming friendship between Albus Potter and Scorpius Malfoy, is drawing him closer than ever to none other than Draco Malfoy. (Unstarted, this is just a plot in my head so far. Plan to make this my next big project once my 8th year fic is done.)

Some Sentences Sunday!

Thanks for tagging me, @orange-peony! I loved your snippet! I'll pass it along to @avenueofesc, @cluelesspigeons, @slytherholic, @nv-md, @sorrybutblog, and @basicallyahedgehog 💕 I've recently returned to a WIP that I started a year ago (!!), and I'm feeling really jazzed about it. It's (so far) got a few of the greatest hits: temporary MCD, time travel, a steamy, time-travel induced age gap, fuck-or-die, loopy magical theory. Here's a particularly heart-shattering snip from the interlude between acts 1 & 2--cw MCD.

Pansy stands, too. Her hands are clenched into fists at her sides and she stares at Harry like he’s the worst, most evil person she’s ever seen in her life. “I’m not sorry I did it,” she says. 

Harry sucks in a breath, trying to keep the nausea at bay. “Did what?”

“Tried to turn you over to the Dark Lord. I should have tried harder. If he’d taken you, if he’d really killed you, my best friend would still be alive.” 

Harry wavers from foot to foot, trying and failing to meet Pansy’s unforgiving gaze. Tears start to roll down his face, hot and wet. “He’s dead?” he asks, his voice small and broken. 

“He’s dead.” Pansy says, with finality. She stares at Harry for another beat, and then turns on her heel to walk away. 

Before she can make it to the corner, Harry calls her name. She stops, but doesn’t turn around. 

“I wish he’d really killed me, too.” 

She hesitates, and then rounds the corner, and Harry is alone.

This for me will always be Rookie Moves by peu_a_peu. I've read it several times, and it continues to be the funniest thing I have ever read, not just in fandom, but EVER. it's so witty and delicious and has such a lovely (lovely? maybe not but we love it) dynamic between Harry and Malfoy. And it's so impressive that Peu has managed to do a "Draco Malfoy is Draco Malfoy" (ie. not at all redeemed and a total shit, very like canon and then some!!!) and we still very much understand why Harry wants to be with him and are rooting for them to just do it already.

22. An idea you had that didn't make the cut

I wrote a scene for Come As You Are where Harry and Draco eat breakfast in their pants standing up in Draco's kitchen, and Harry likens it to days prior when he ate standing up prior to the fateful cam show (IYKYK). I loved the circular nature of it, but it just didn't work for the flow of the chapter. I ended up cutting it and replacing with the scene where Harry is flipping through Draco's burned CDs, which made me even happier.

Okay not to sound like a total fangirl (I am though, and Peu knows it) but the scene in her latest work The Superfluous Man at the club where Harry is on his knees... yeah, I will be thinking about that one for a while. Same with the kitchen chair scene in I Am Not Who I Became by mab_di (again, IYKYK). Not sure I will ever recover from that one. Images that live rent-free in my head are most things drawn by the fantastic @itsphantasmagoria but especially the Kiss from Chapter 10 of Follies of an Ornamental Hermit by @mallstars and the recent fanart for Crack This Thing Wide Open by peu_a_peu (yes, yes, we have established I am obsessed.)

Thank you @slytherholic li for these incredibly rich additions. I'm still suspicious of accounts that publish several long fics in the space of two months, but I'm now also sceptical of AI detectors.

About AI writing

After reading this post by @drarryspecificrecsdaily, I've realised that there might be more fics AI written than I thought.

I'm vehemently opposed to this fake stuff.

And it turns out I've already read an AI fic... A drarry…

In my personal notes, I noted that it was well written, very academic, but that unfortunately it quickly became too fluffy, too mawkish and that it was as if Harry and Draco (Hogwarts teachers) were the only characters in the castle. I flew through the whole of the second half.

So I'm quite happy that my instincts weren't wrong.

I compared the alleged AI fics with a few that I love. I use zerogpt.com.

The verdict is pretty clear-cut, even if you can only analyse 15,000 characters for free.

A balanced fragrance of sandalwood and something musky and earthy followed him like a shroud. Draco Malfoy smelled like a magical forest’s best kept secret. Like the moment following a storm when the sun peeks back over the clouds and living beings stop what they’re doing and pause to marvel at being able to roam outside again. It was a crisp top note with more robust undertones, and just a hint of sweetness. She thought she might love the scent if it lived on anyone else other than him.

favourite colour: My entire wardrobe is basically black, grey, burgundy, and navy blue. I can’t pick a favorite color in general, though, because I’m a painter and all of the colors are the best colors.

last song I listened to: Jimmy Eat World, Bleed American

favourite musician: I don’t know that I currently have one to be honest. I tend to go in phases, and the current phase is late 90s/early 2000s alt rock, but there’s not a specific artist I’m listening to.

last film I watched: Class Action Park! If you’ve got HBO and enjoy documentaries about absolute insanity, I highly recommend it.

last tv show I watched: ALSO GREAT BRITISH BAKE OFF!! Both the folks who tagged me had the same answer and I am genuinely delighted. It’s the most feel-good show of all time and I cried.

favourite character: God, so many! Mostly I love nuance and a well developed backstory and character arc. A few faves: Ronan Lynch (the Raven Boys), Hyacinthe (Kushiel’s Legacy), Luna Lovegood, Sophie Hatter (Howl’s Moving Castle, the book, not the movie), Lyra Bellaqua (His Dark Materials)
