This is just a thought that was in my brain, and I finally decided to write it out. It’s not even a full fic; at under 700 words, drabble is the only way to describe it. Not sure if it’s part of an existing AU or something new; for now, it just is.
If you read this, THANK YOU. Your likes, comments, and reblogs are appreciated more than you realize. Please excuse any and all typos, missing/extraneous words, and/or grammatical errors. MS Editor rates this 100% error-free.

Riley Brooks poured herself a cocktail. It was 6:30 am, far too early for alcohol but she justified her actions by telling herself that the orange juice made it breakfast. Besides, day drinking was a thing now. As she mixed her ingredients together, she reflected on how every major milestone of her Cordonian adventure had been punctuated by a drink.
The night of the Coronation, when she returned to Ramsford with her mind and soul filled with confusion and hurt, Maxwell had brought her a whiskey sour filled with cherries and garnished with wedges of lemon and lime. A boozy fruit salad. The sweetness of the cherries blended with the tartness of the citrus to soothe the burn of the sour mash and numb her heart.
The night in France during the Engagement Tour when Drake took her to the billiards hall. He suggested drinks and that she have a mojito: a blend of sweet and minty muddled to allow each ingredient to assault her tastebuds with every swallow. But Riley neither needed nor wanted muddled. Her emotions were enough of a mess. Liam’s words were a complete contradiction to his actions. No, Riley Brooks needed straightforward and blunt. She chose a whiskey neat. And felt the need for another one after Drake leaned her over the pool table, his hardness pressing invitingly through the denim of his jeans and into her ass cleavage.
Sitting along the darkened banks of the Siene River, enjoying rustic bread and aged cheeses with Liam as he waxed poetically about their future, even though the chances of finding Tariq were growing slimmer with each moment that passed. Riley drank deeply of the French red wine, letting it warm her insides and wrap her in a hazy comfort. Perhaps she and Liam weren’t meant for open daylight; maybe he wasn’t protecting his father for the most fucked-up fuckery she had ever been subjected to. Just maybe, Liam was protecting her and their love, keeping them tucked under the cover of night and away from prying eyes and wagging tongues.
The sloe gin fizz the night of the wedding party had tasted of bittersweet victory. Her name had finally been cleared to Cordonia’s satisfaction, but the disingenuity and boot licking towards her by the nobility and elite merely because their King had ordered it, made the victory a hollow one. They were only sorry to be wrong in their assumptions and gossip, which made them dislike and mistrust her even further.
There was no liquor at the Statue of Liberty the night of the proposal; Riley chose to make her coffee Irish at breakfast the following morning. She knew her answer would hurt people; the announcement before the meal was served confirmed it. While her intended grinned broadly and gushed eagerly over her, Riley sipped the strong beverage, avoiding gazes and offering a wan smile when she did catch someone’s eye.
On her wedding night, tepid champagne sat in a bucket filled with melted ice. The bubbles that had fizzed and hissed in their flutes when she and her husband toasted each other were now flat. Their bodies were slick with sweat, their breathing labored as the bride and groom lay in each other’s arms, whispering promises and sweet nothings to each other.
The sparkling cider when she told her husband they were pregnant; with a loud yell of happiness, he had picked her up and swung her around, prompting her to throw up all over his shirt and the carpet.
And now this morning, vodka and orange juice. A screwdriver. She needed the sharpness of the vodka to strengthen her resolve and solidify her courage. The orange juice would make her tears not as bitter and her words sweeter. Not that it would make a difference.
Because five years, two children, and a trail of lies, failures, and broken promises later, today Riley Brooks was going to ask her husband for a divorce and sole custody of their children.

The Way Back Machine
In 1966, my family--Dad, Mom, sisters Marcia, Jeannine and Carol--and I moved from Ft. Leavenworth, KS to Japan. Our father had just completed a year of instruction at the Army's Command and General Staff School. The Vietnam War was heating up and the US military was ramping up its support operations in Japan.
We spent our first two years (1966-1968) living on post at Sagami Army Depot (25 miles SW of Tokyo) where vehicles damaged in Vietnam were repaired. The post had seen service in WWII as Sagami Army Arsenal where Mitsubishi developed and manufactured tanks for use by the Japanese army. Dad was the depot's comptroller; Sagami employed a large Japanese workforce refurbishing tanks and armored personnel carriers. Those of us old enough to attend school were bused to Camp Zama which served--and still does--as HQ for U.S. Army Japan.
In 1968 our dad was transferred to Fuchu Air Force Base. We lived in the nearby Kanto Mura Housing Annex where I attended Chofu High School as a sophomore and junior. I recall fondly being 20 minutes by train from Shinjuku and its music bars that never checked our IDs. "One sloe gin fizz, kudasai."
In 1970, our father was shipped off to Vietnam for a one-year tour. We packed up and headed to Hobart, OK (population 4,600 at the time). Our mother was born and raised in Hobart and I'd been born there when Lieutenant Mjoseth, an artillery officer, was fighting in the Korean War.

Hello! I’ve just been rereading the very first story in the series, and when Eddy’s been around for just about a week, Lucius says something to Stede along the lines of “You told me you were going to try being slutty!” That, coupled with the “he was dropped on his head as an adult” snipe, paint such a great picture of Stede and Lucius’ early friendship!! (Didn’t Lucius and Jim have to whisper and plan about Eddy’s reputation and business?) Do you have any extras or thoughts on those conversations or era ?
(Been holding onto this one for absolute ages and since I was enjoying some Lucius and Jim earlier this week, here's their friendship just really starting out)
For the first year that Lucius worked at the Revenge, Jim was one of the few people that he didn’t connect with. They were disinterested in flirtation, turned down offers of portraits when other options failed and generally exuded a low-level menace that Lucius usually would push through, but couldn’t find a chink in.
He knew, in theory, that they had some kind of sticky feelings underneath their shell. Anyone that spent that much time with Oluwande had to, especially if it was a romantic time. So mostly he admired them from afar and concentrated his efforts on the more interested.
Then Eddy had shown up.
Lucius had laid out his concerns in the dressing room and been mostly met with gentle dismissal.
Jim hadn’t laughed. Jim hadn’t smiled. Jim met his eyes in acknowledgement. In the span of seconds, they became a team. A week later, Jim rocked up to the bar, asked for their usual pre-show shot, down it then said,
“They haven’t left his place.”
“Could be a con,” Lucius muttered. “You got eyes on the money?”
“Some.”
“Keep it there.”
They did that for weeks, updating and checking in. Gradually Jim said other things. Mentioned a day trip with Oluwande or something they’d watched. When Lucius asked questions, they answered, perfunctory, but acknowledging. When he offered things in returned, he noticed how intently they listened, even if they didn’t always respond.
“Hey,” Lucius whispered one day. “You want to help get rid of a douchebag customer?”
“Abso-fucking-lutely.”
“Okay, here’s the play. This guy comes in and orders a sloe gin fizz every Thursday, but he always has a dick comment when he does. He’s worse to the Swede, but I get them too. I’ve tried volleying back, but then he thinks it’s funny. Tried giving him nothing, doesn’t give up. So I’m thinking you can come behind the bar this time. I’ll make the drink, but you give it to him.”
“And?” Jim eyed him curiously.
“And then you let the spirit move you to what you think is best.”
“That’s your plan?”
“You are the plan. Have fun! Get creative!”
“All right then,” Jim’s smile was slow and edged. “I like it.”
The guy came in and Lucius signalled Jim, who was waiting when the guy came up to order.
“Who are you supposed to be?” The guy wrinkled his nose. “Shitty cowboy costume?”
“What do you want?” Jim stared him down.
“What kind of customer service voice is that? C’mon, gimme a smile and I’ll tell you.”
Lucius knew he was pulling quite the face, but luckily he had his back to the scene.
“No.”
“No?” The guy laughed. “I’m a regular customer here, sweetheart. Very respected.”
“You?” Jim’s voice dripped with disdain.
“Yeah, ask anyone!”
“Swede?” Jim barked. “You know this guy?”
And bless him, as if he’d been read into the scene, the Swede looked at the man with wide-eyed bewilderment.
“No? Maybe? Must I? Should I? Hold on! I’ll think of it….Alice!”
“Alice?” The guy growled.
“Allison? Last name?” The Swede tried again. “I’m so bad with names, I’m so sorry!”
“You’re fine,” Jim assured him and turned back to the guy. “Okay, so. You were saying?”
“I was saying,” the guy was getting annoyed now, shoulders tight. “That you should be treating customers with some respect!”
“Why?” Jim asked blankly.
“Because! That’s your job!”
“No,” Jim repeated.
“You’re in the service industry, you’re here to make customers feel good. It’s the most basic tenant of the job!”
“Oh. You’re confused,” Jim nodded.
“I am not!”
“Yes. You are,” Jim said gravely. “You think we care how you feel. We do not. You think we care if you come back. We do not.”
“I’ll leave a Yelp review that’ll get you shut down!”
“We have a four and a half star rating with about like… a hundred and fifty reviews?” Lucius couldn’t help, but jump in. “And the health inspector was here last week. Perfect grades.”
“I will make you regret this!” The guy seethed.
Jim leaned forward, their hand going casually into their pocket. Just enough to reveal a line of steel. The guy clearly did not come to Friday shows because the sight startled him.
“Please try.” Jim grinned, wide and toothy.
“You’re crazy! You’re all fucking crazy!” The guy backpedaled out. “You’ll never see my money or any of my friends money in here again!”
“Think he’s got friends?” Jim asked doubtfully as the guy almost knocked someone else over on his way out the door.
“None that I want to meet,” Lucius snorted. “You’re damn good at that, by the way.”
“It was fun. Let’s do it again sometime.”
They would do it often enough that Jim didn’t even have to flash steel at the end, a polished double act that scared people off without drawing the wrong kind of attention. By the time they’d both decided Eddy wasn’t a threat, they had settled into just straight up gossiping about them and Stede and the others. Not the usual scuttlebutt type secrets that Lucius would giggle over with Frenchie or the more salacious stories he’d share with Roach. Jim just liked to be in the know about people’s movements, something they had very deeply in common.
Their whisper network oversaw a lot of comings and goings over the years. No one suspected Jim of being one of the biggest information wells, but they were quiet and they listened and once they started working with Izzy, they got very good at research. Lucius always knew who to ask if he was missing a critical piece.
Together they kept the collective psyche of the Revenge as safe as they knew how.

1/4 oz lemon juice
1/4 oz blackberry syrup or jelly
1/4 oz rosewater
Sprig of thyme
Ice
1 egg white or 3 TBSP egg whites
Plain seltzer to finish
Put all liquids other than egg whites into shaker with thyme and ice and just kinda jostle ‘em around for a second. Add the egg, cap and shake for a minute and a half. Strain into a highball glass/whatever you have/a normal goddamn glass with more ice. Top off with seltzer. Drink or offer it.

It's interesting to see him asking his mommies about lemon trees, 🍋 a possible indication that it wasn’t water he drank 🤔 There are multiple varieties of lemon trees, but which one will His mommies choose to plant at home to please him?🤷‍♀️
WHISKY SOUR - SCOTCH WHISKY SOUR - or SCOTTISH WHISKY SOUR
Classic Cocktail - A true Scotch Whisky Sour is 150 years old, yet you’ll still find it in the trendiest bars. Give this cocktail a go with your favourite scotch! With egg white included, it is sometimes called a Boston sour; when the whisky used is a Scotch, it is called a Scotch sour.
The Whisky Sour was invented in the 1860s, but British Navy sailors🇬🇧 had been drinking something very similar for a long time before that. Fresh and clean water was difficult to find on long sea journeys, so sailors commonly used whisky, rum and other spirits to substitute.
In the 19th century aside from lack of clean water, many sailors suffered from scurvy, a potentially fatal disease caused in part by lack of vitamin C. Sailors consumed lemons and limes to help prevent the disease from spreading. For many years, sailors on the sea drank whisky sours. Their popularity grew when they finally arrived on the shores of the United States.
There are three main references on the official record. The first record is written in Jerry Thomas' seminal 1862 book, The Bartender's Guide: How to Mix Drinks. The second reference comes from a Wisconsin newspaper, the Waukesha Plainsdealer in 1870. The final record is in 1872 and states that Elliot Staub, a former ship steward, "invented" a drink called the Whisky Sour in a bar in Iquique, (then part of Peru) now Iquique is a port city and commune in northern Chile, 🇨🇱 after the Pacific War (1879).
Tumblr media
Ingredients
2 ounces Scotch whisky
3/4 ounce lemon juice, freshly squeezed
1/2 ounce simple syrup
1/2 ounce egg white (optional)
Garnish: Angostura bitters
Steps
1 Add Scotch, lemon juice, simple syrup and egg white, if using, to a shaker, and dry-shake for 30 seconds without ice.
2. Add ice and shake again for 15-20 seconds, until well-chilled.
3. Strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice, or into a coupe without ice.
4. Garnish with 3-4 drops of Angostura bitters.
Egg white adds viscosity and mouthfeel to cocktails and drinks such as sours only taste their best when made with added egg white. Egg white can also add an attractive foamy head to cocktails and the amount of foam produced can be extenuated using a “Dry Shake” refers to shaking ingredients in a cocktail shaker without ice.
Although raw egg whites are optional in the Whisky Sour, they are required in drinks such as the Ramos Gin Fizz, Amaretto Sour, Whisky Sour, Clover Club, Tequila Sour, Sloe Gin Fizz, Pisco Sour, Eggnog and White Lady. You can also use dried egg white powder.
Any recipe containing egg requires a vigorous dry shake for at least 30 seconds to ensure that the egg white combines with the other ingredients and produces a smooth, frothy texture.

Do remember that drinking and serving alcohol responsibly is a must. Cheers drinking classic cocktails — safely!

Gin: A Healthier Alcohol Choice?
While no alcohol can be classified as 'healthy', gin is often considered a better option due to its lower calorie count compared to other spirits. Remember, moderation is key to enjoying any alcoholic beverage.

Each of the flavoured gins we’ve highlighted offers a unique taste experience, perfect for various cocktails or enjoying themselves.
