In which Sirius takes back Halloween

My fic for the fabulous fic -o-ween! This is not even remotely scary and is basically a big fluff ball. I hope you enjoy your Halloween as much as Sirius and co!

A big shout out to @ais-for-alex for being my beta for this fic. I did make a couple of changes as I was re-reading this morning (who can resist) so any mistakes are most likely my fault.😂

“Do you think I should sell this house?” Sirius mused, tapping his long fingers against the rim of his mug.

Remus looked up slowly from his tablet, from which he’d been reading the daily news. “Why would you want to do that?” he asked, raising an eyebrow.

“It’s just so big, you know,” Sirius shrugged, taking a second to formulate his thoughts into a coherent reply. “I kind of just brought it as an act of rebellion when I got my first pay check. We’re never really here and even when we are, we use what, maybe five of the rooms.” He leaned back in his chair, pushing his hair back off his face. “It just feels so soulless,” he finished, glancing at Remus to gauge his reaction. His boyfriend was as impossible to read as ever, not giving an ounce away until he opened his mouth to speak.

“So, give it soul then.” Remus said, as though it was the most obvious thing in the world. “Like you said we’re never here. But we could be. We can make memories here if you want to,” he smiled gently at the thought. “Maybe, we could start with me officially moving my stuff in here?” he added, biting into a doughnut casually. If Sirius didn’t know Remus better he would have thought that the monumentality of the question had bypassed him.

Sirius wrapped his arms around Remus's waist pulling him close, smiling into his curls at the memory. It had taken place two years ago now and of course, Remus had been right. Sirius couldn’t imagine living anywhere else now. A crunching sound interrupted his thoughts. He shook his head, but didn’t comment on his boyfriend’s breakfast, a leftover toffee apple, knowing from previous experiences that it would only encourage him to make worse choices.

The conversation in his memory had been the reason that he’d first thrown his annual Halloween bonanza, a tradition (if something that had only been done twice could be called a tradition) that was quickly becoming infamous. It was a family affair with all the team bringing their loved ones to enjoy what was quite frankly, an outrageous display of wealth. Each year, Remus and he turned their back garden into a fete with, pumpkin carving, a hay maze, apple bobbing, spooky cupcake decorating and face painting to name but a few things. No expense was spared. But it wasn’t about the money really.

A soft kiss to his jawline pulled him out of his thoughts again. Remus sighed contentedly and leaned into his chest, body warmth radiating between them. Sirius glanced down at the shorter man, giving him a reassuring smile. Remus could always tell when he was in his own head.

“Just thinking about last night,” Sirius hummed, his eyes flickering to the giant corkboard on the wall. It was currently monopolized by the polaroids that had been taken the previous evening. The collection showcased exactly what the party was all about.

It was the photo of Logan, his teeth clenched around an apple, sticky liquid dripping down his chin and eyes glimmering with competition. Next to it, the photo of Katie Dumais hugging a huge, black stuffed dog, almost the same size as her.

“Logan won me a new stuffie!” she had beamed as the photo was taken. Logan, much to Katie’s distain, ruffled her hair and told her, “N’importe quoi pour vous.” Anything for you.

It was the image of a frantic James declaring, “I have lost my child!” Olli and Timmy laughing in the background because they could see a tiny Harry dressed as a pumpkin toddling around behind his father.

It was the one of Talker, for once sitting still, albeit in a chair designed for small children, his eyes closed but his mouth moving. Across from him, Noelle’s expression was fondly exasperated as she tried to finish painting his face. Another photo evidenced that she had been successful; there were two matching skeletons (Thomas and little Xavi) with faces warped by laughter.

It was the collection of photos towards the top of the corkboard. Reg and Leo. Reg and Celeste. Reg and Jules. And his personal favourite, Reg and Remus.

“I love this one,” Sirius said aloud, his fingers reaching out to brush the picture he was referring to. Even now it still baffled him to see his brother interacting with his boyfriend so casually. At this point the two men had their own relationship outside of Sirius, founded on nerdy things that he failed to understand. His heart swelled as he took in the image of the two most important people in his life.

“It’s a great photo,” Remus agreed. He and Regulus had their heads close together, hands waving as they enthusiastically discussed something. Remus had a smug expression on his face, Reg looked disgruntled. The photo captured their personalities fantastically. “I think this is my favourite,” Remus added, pointing out a different polaroid.

This one was taken inside. An entanglement of blankets and sleeping children. Smitty’s youngest, Noah, had started it. He’d crashed around 9pm after an almighty sugar rush, and his father had laid him down in the quiet of the lounge to sleep. Katya Ivanov and Katie Dumais followed soon after. Harry had put up a valiant effort not to join them. In fact, there was a photo a little to the left of Sirius rocking his godson who was fighting his drooping eyelids. Never the less, he ended up in the pile too.

“One day, we will have one of our own to add to that pile,” Remus smiled, giving Sirius a squeeze.

“One day,” Sirius agreed, wiping a thumb across Remus's lips to remove a trace of toffee. "We better go and wake those two up. Marcie will be here soon – she won’t want to clean around them,” Sirius declared, his head inclining towards the lounge. Remus chuckled in response, spinning in Sirius’s arms and taking his hand to lead him to the other room. Sirius allowed himself to be led, picking up the camera from the counter as he passed.

The camera flashed and pushed out a photo with a click. Sirius grinned, shaking the small square whilst it developed. Slowly it revealed two men curled into one another, the taller of the them had his arms wrapped around the smaller. They looked peaceful. Remus tried to wake them up gently, but apparently the small shake to Kuny’s shoulder was enough to startle the pair. A string of Russian – almost certainly profanities – left Kuny’s mouth as he pulled himself away from Nado. Sirius noted the blush that spread over Kuny’s cheeks as he realised how entwined they had been.

“Right boys. I hate to kick you out but my housekeeper will be here soon and she does not need to be subjected to your hungover asses,” Sirius said, although he didn’t sound regretful at all.

Nado grumbled, showing Sirius his middle finger and sweeping his hair back of his face. “Come on Koon, I’ll drop you home.”

Leaving Remus to deal with their two unexpected guests, Sirius wandered back into his kitchen to pin the photo he had just taken with the rest. Sirius couldn’t help but smile as he realized that none of them were wearing the same sweaters they had arrived in, seemingly having swapped them over the course of the evening.

Remus came back soon enough, shaking his head and huffing out a laugh. Sirius didn't want to know. “They'll be gone soon. We should pick up. Marcie isn't paid enough to deal with…this" Remus said, gesturing towards the chaos of the kitchen. Sirius looked around, a grimace forming on his face before he nodded his agreement. The floor was littered with costume parts, either lost or removed as games were played and alcohol was drunk – devil horns here and iron man’s mask there. There was a stain on the rug where a bowl of perfectly spiced pumpkin soup had been spilt. Toilet paper had managed to make its way into the craziest of places, casualties of the mummy competition. Popcorn crunched under his feet – the impromptu viewing of ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ had happened two rooms over - how popcorn had ended up in the kitchen, Sirius did not know.

Despite it all, Sirius would do it all again tomorrow. Growing up, Halloween had been characterized by loneliness and jealousy. His overly religious parents had declared the holiday heinous and banned even mentions of the event. In the supermarket, they snatched offered candy out of his hand and Sirius had listened on wistfully as the other children spoke about their hauls. The memories made him a little sad, but it was okay now, Sirius had reclaimed it – Halloween was his again.

DNP also discussed this topic further in one of the Stereo shows, which was hilarious. The Stereo shows kept them busy along with other boredom-beating activities...like this apparently, on March 18. Also from the texting video - on Saturday, March 13 they got burgers and on March 14 they were thinking about the Japan trip/planning art for the new house. They were also active generally on Twitter, mostly about things they then discussed in the Stereo shows.

*new* beyblade subs masterpost

hello again everyone! i've decided to make a whole new masterpost for my beyblade subs, all the links in the old one died like a century ago and i've wanted to do things a bit differently anyway and. stuff. i'm slowly working on editing and uploading new versions that will replace the old files, but the old files will be available here for all the episodes i haven't edited yet. (also i'm aware that there are other subs in existence by now too but i just like being thorough. plus i was asked to do this)

***what's different in the new versions*** - well first of all they're all available for hardsubbed streaming so you don't need to download anything to watch - improved translation, a fixed arial round font, overall better readability, no colour coding (it was difficult to maintain what colours i actually wanted to use lol), no changing font sizes etc - uniform spellings for all the names and terms (i try to go with what's more or less official. even though that's kinda elusive in this franchise but. anyway) - karaoke effects for opening & ending themes. in the old files, all of the above is just chaos with no coherence. that's why i'll be replacing them. it's going to take a while but i'm on it

the episodes are grouped in batches of tens below. google drive allows downloading an entire folder so you get the whole batch in one (depending on the folder view, the DL link changes places a bit but it's at the top of the screen). or you can also just pick individual episodes.

I’m standing behind one of the walls of Hexside School of Magic and Demonics. In my hands I held a small box with holes in the top, my heart beating faster every second.

“Just.. give it to him, you don’t have to say anything weird just give him the present, Matt, dammit!!”

“Uh, Mattholomule? Are you alright?”

Speaking of the devil.. well more like angel…

I turned around quickly, almost stumbling as I put the box behind my back.

“U-uhuh..”

“Oh okay, I thought I heard yelling..”

Oh no, hopefully he doesn’t suggest it being me..

“Oh, hm confusing.. I heard it too.. haha…” I laughed, wanting to just disappear into the the uneven ground.

“Well, what’s that?” He pointed to my back, trying to peek around.

“W-well I wanted to…gift you s-something..” Real smooth, huh..

“Hm, really?”

“Uh, yeah!” I nodded a bit too enthusiastically.

I continued. “So.. I happened to h-hear you and Luz talking about how much you love frogs, so I..”

I revealed the box, trying not to force it too aggressively at Augustus.

His eyebrows raised and his teeth stopped biting his lip in anticipation.

“No way! Did you!?”

It hit me, maybe I ready the conversation wrong. Maybe they were speaking some form of human code, agh!

“Wait, are you mad, you probably are.. I’m sorry..”

His face fell slightly but bounced back up.

“No, no! I’m just.. shocked, but please of course and WOW!”

He carefully and gently took the box from me and gave the content of the box an adorable smile after opening it. I felt like I could die.

“Thank you so much, Matt!” He squealed, running up to me as I tried to process everything, including the nickname that came from out of the blue..

Then he hugged me.

“It’s adorable!” - Gustholomule

So you remember those fake artefacts you brought to that H.A.S meeting?”

“Oh yeah, you threw them away didn’t you?”

Gus looked from side to side funnily and let out a small giggle.

“Oh, they’re in my bedroom, on my desk. I can bring them tomorrow if you’d like.”

Mattholomule was touched, and his face reflected this sincerely.

“Oh that’s fine, I was just asking I don’t need them anymore, you can keep them.. in your bedroom, on your.. desk…”

His cheeks were darkened but Gus didn’t notice, he didn’t seem to be saying or hearing anything Matt was saying. His eyes seemed to be fixed on the other boys forehead, his eyes slightly squinted and his face overall being intrigued. The sight was almost too cute for Mattholomule to comprehend.

“W-what are you l-looking at Gus?” He stuttered, swallowing awkwardly.

Saying nothing, Gus extended his arm and reached to his friends head, accidentally touching his cheeks in the process.

“Uh, G-Gus what are you doing?” Mattholomule’s face resembled a really red tomato but he didn’t lean his head or body back at all.

Gus’ arm reached its target and started to curl around and play with the ahoge hidden most of the time underneath Matt’s hood that had been recently revealed in that moment.

“Ooo! Pointy hair!!” He giggled, shuffling closer so he could start bouncing the mentioned ahoge.

“Oh.. that… heh..”

“Why is it always hidden? It’s adorable!”

That almost did it for Matt who gets shrugged, looking at his lap with his eyes widened awkwardly.

Gus read this movement wrong and took his hand away, moving back.

“Sorry, did you not want me to do that? I’m sorry was it uncomfortable?”

Matt made eye contact with the boy, whose eyes were sympathetic and apologetic. He didn’t like that look.

“N-no, you can play w-with it..” Matt confirmed, putting his head up again and bounced his own hair slightly.

“Thanks a lot, Matt! You should stop wearing your hood so often so people can see it!”

“O-okay Gus…”

Introducing the Spideychelle Recathon!

I really appreciated all of the hard work and dedication the Spideychelle fandom showed during this year’s Spideychelle Week and I really wanted to find a way to celebrate all of those fantastic creators in this fandom, including those who didn’t participate in the week but contribute to the fandom outside of it. A lot of fan events that are hosted on Tumblr focus on content creation and I wanted to create an event focused on content appreciation.

Then it hit me—a recathon, taking from the words recommendation and marathon; an event that encourages people to rec many fanworks over the course of the event. I’m surely not the first to come up with the idea, but I haven’t seen it in the Spideychelle fandom yet. I hope this event will be a success like Spideychelle Week has proven to be in the past and it becomes a staple for the fandom.

The event will take place in October across all thirty-one days. You do not have to participate for every day, however, and you can pick and choose based on the daily themes that have fanworks that you are passionate about and wish to reccomend to others. I’d like on the chosen day for particpants to create a rec list (it does not have to be a list if you only have one fanwork to rec) and tag this blog (@spideychelleweek) so that I can reblog the rec list. It’s also encouraged that you tag the creators’ you’re reccing and let them know you love their work! If the original creator has already posted the fanwork on Tumblr then you can also choose to reblog their original post and tag this blog, letting me know you’re reccing it.

I hope most of the prompts are self-explanatory, but if not then below the cut I’ll try to simply explain each one. If you have any questions about the prompts or the event then please send in an ask and I’ll answer as promptly as I can.

Day 01 | Classics: Older and beloved fanworks; the type that every fan should read/watch/see and is introduced to every new Spideychelle fan someway or another. These fanworks should have been posted before the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Day 02 | Crossover/Fusion: Crossover is when two fandoms combine, such as a fanwork where Peter Parker meets Robert Patterson’s Batman, while fusion is where the fandoms are merged by implanting the characters of one setting into another, such as the ever popular Hogwarts AU.

Day 03 | Kiss: Fanworks involving kissing, such as a one shot about their first kiss or a fanart of a passionate kiss. Kissing doesn’t have to be the main focus of the work. For instance, if you think a 100k word fanfic has the best kiss scenes then rec it away even if it has 95k words where no kissing is involved.

Day 04 | MJ Backstory: In the MCU’s canon we don’t know a lot about MJ’s family or her life, but the fandom has explored and delved deep into MJ’s character so this slot is for fanworks that explore MJ’s backstory whether it be a down-to-earth depiction of her family or exciting backstory where MJ is a spy.

Day 05 | Fluff: A fanwork that is pleasant and makes you feel good, such as fanworks depicting cuddling or other affectionate actions though fluff isn’t limited to that.

Day 06 | Identity Reveal: Fanworks that explore Peter Parker’s secret identity and it being revealed to MJ (who may already know) or other characters.

Day 07 | Post-FFH: Fanworks that take place after Spider-Man: Far From Home and explore what happens after Mysterio revealed Peter Parker’s identity to the world.

Day 08 | Vids: All kinds of fanworks can be posted for each day, but I imagine most will end up being fics so this day is devoted solely to vids which are video edits often set to music using clips from the films.

Day 09 | Fix-It: For fanworks that “correct” canon events that are not liked by the fan(dom), such as fanworks where the Snap/Blip never happened, Tony never died, or whatever else that fandom seeks to correct through fanworks.

Day 10 | Favorite Creator(s): Spread the spotlight to specific creators whose fanworks you love.

Day 11 | Domestic: Fanworks involving the characters living everyday lives. Often involves marriage or children, but domestic fanworks don’t have to include that nor does domestic mean that Peter can’t have powers, since being Spider-Man is a normal part of his everyday life.

Day 12 | Angst: Fanworks that hit you in the feels by making you feel negative emotions, particularly saddness or fear.

Day 13 | No Spider-Man: Fanworks that depict Peter Parker as a normal human being without superpowers. Other characters can have superpowers, but Peter Parker cannot.

Day 14 | LGBT+: Fanworks that depict LGBT+ themes and/or characters such as Trans!Peter Parker or Bisexual!MJ. Those are just examples, so feel free to rec works that don’t fit those specific parameters as long as they are LGBT+ focused.

Day 15 | Underappreciated: Fanworks that are underappreciated, such as not having that much engagement from the fandom. I’ll let you determine what counts as underappreciated, but please don’t rec fanworks that have 1000 kudos and 50 comments. This day is about praising fanworks that get barely any praise.

Day 16 | Alternative Universe: Fanworks that alter elements of canon, such as College AUs, Coffee Shop AUs, Vampire AUs, Omegaverse AUs, Historical AUs, Soulmate AUs, and so, so, so many more.

Day 17 | Spider-Man 3: Fanworks that make you go, “this could be in the MCU’s Spider-Man 3,” whether it be fanart depicting an epic fight scene, a long fic plotting out a huge overarching narrative, a vid with a tight story, or whatever else you can think of.

Day 18 | One Shots: Fanworks, typically fanfiction but it can include other mediums such as comics, that are standalone stories contained within a single chapter.

Day 19 | Hurt/Comfort: Fanworks involving a character(s) being hurt either emotionally or physically and then being comforted by another character(s).

Day 20 | Self-Rec: Recommend a fanwork or fanworks that you created! Don’t be afraid to be proud of your work and I want everyone to shamelessly rec their fanworks that they’re proud of on this day.

Day 21 | Comic Elements: Fanworks that include elements from the Spider-Man comics that have yet to appear in the MCU, such as the Venom Symbiote or a reimagining of a classic scene/panel/storyline using the MCU’s version of the characters.

Day 22 | Art: A day to recommend your favorite pieces of fanart. This doesn’t just include drawn/painted art, but it can also include cosplay, sculptures, paper craft, and any other medium.

Day 23 | Missing Scene: Any fanwork that fills in a “gap” in the films and could reasonably be seen as canon compliant.

Day 24 | Five Things: A story structure that includes multiple scenes that are related to each other using a common theme. An example is “Five Time Peter & MJ Almost Kissed & The One Time They Did.” The story structure does not need to have exactly five and can have any number as long as it follows the typical structure.

Day 25 | Humor: Fanworks that are humorous and make you laugh.

Day 26 | Smut: Fanworks that depict sexual material of either a Mature or Explicit rating.

Day 27 | Drabble: Fanfics that are exactly one hundred words long, but for this day I’ll accept less words or slightly more. And I also would like to see other mediums for this category such as vids that are less than thirty seconds. Generally, just fanworks that are fairly short in length.

Day 28 | Mental Health: Fanworks that depict mental illness, mental disorders, or neurodivergent headcanons. Examples include, but are not limited to, ADHD, Autism, Panic Attacks, PTSD, Anxiety, Depression, etc.

Post-Production: Optimisation

Workflow Process

After shooting my chosen building, the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh, for the Structure brief I had to go through the images and select the strongest images in terms of composition and correct exposure as well as the images that I felt would portray the architectural vision and enhance the structure. The workflow process I went through to create contact sheets and star rate the images is the same process after each shoot, here are the mains steps summarized:

Open images form SD card into Adobe Bridge and rename the selected images for this project using the batch rename tools. Review the images in the Filmstrip tab and use the star rating system to select the strongest images. Go to the output tab to create contact sheets of the highest rated images and export as a PDF. Then move the RAW files of the top-rated images into a new folder to be optimized in photoshop.

Optimization and Perspective Correction

Image 01 – Wide Exterior (modern extension)

Camera Raw Adjustments:

- To edit this image, I opened the file into camera RAW where I made small adjustments to the sliders for exposure and contrast under the ‘Basics’ tab.

Photoshop Adjustments:

- Perspective Correction (Layer 1) - With the images opened in photoshop where I duplicated the background layer and renamed it ‘perspective corrections’. I used the ruler guides to make vertical and horizontal guide lines across the images. To correct the barrel distortion of this image I went to the edit tab and selected Transform > Distort. Using the blue anchor points to move points at the top of the image that aligned the verticals of the building with the vertical ruler guides.

- Crop (layer 2) – I decided to make a small crop to the wide exterior shot as there were a few objects such as cars at the edge of the frame that wouldn’t be easily removed, and because I shot slightly wider than I needed to there was still enough room for the building to fi tin frame after a small crop was applied. I used the rule of thirds

- Clean Up (layer 3) – I decided to remove any areas of the images that were distracting from the subject of blocked the view of the structure, such as: signs, lampposts, pedestrians, bikes, birds and other marks on the ground or on the building. The tools I used to make these changes were the content aware tool, to use this I made a selection around a subject using either the quick select or lasso tool and then apply the content aware tool found in the ‘Edit’ tab. This tool allows you to select which areas around the selection that can be used to fill in this area. I also used the spot healing and clone stamp tool to clean up areas where the content aware fill was used as well as on pedestrians, signs and blemishes.

- Colour Grading (adjustment layers) – After making major adjustments to perspective, crop and removing areas of the image I could then apply a colour grade and used the curves tool to increase the contrast and add depth. I decided to apply the ‘fall colours’ colour grading, reducing this layer to around 30%, I felt that this colour grading enhances the beige tones within the stone and brought back warmth into the image. This colour grading would be applied to all 5 images.

Image 02 – interior shot (modern extension)

Camera Raw Adjustments:

- Basic Adjustments: I used the sliders for the exposure and highlights as the majority of this image are white/beige tones.

- Perspective Correction: In the geometry tab I used one of the perspective corrections tool which aligned all the vertical and horizontal lines. I chose this specific tool because the composition included geometric shapes that were mostly squares and rectangles.

Photoshop Adjustments:

- Clean up (Layer 1) – After duplicating the background layer I used the clone stamp tool to remove a few vents and one person from in frame that.

- Adjustment Layers – I applied the ‘fall colours’ preset in the colour look up adjustment and reduced the opacity to around 30%. Then used the curves tool to increase the contrast.

Image 03 – Exterior close up (modern extension)

Camera Raw Adjustments:

- Basic Adjustments – again, I used the sliders in the basics tab to adjust the exposure, contrast and highlights.

- Perspective Correction - Then went to the geometry tab and used the rule of thirds perspective correction tool to align vertical lines and straighten the image.

Photoshop Adjustments:

- Crop (layer 1) – I decided to make small crop on this image to bring more attention to the geometric shapes of the windows and the texture of the stone bricks.

- Clean up (layer 2) – I used the spot healing and clone stamp tool to remove distracting marks and CCTV cameras from the building.

- Adjustment layers – again, I applied the ‘fall colours’ preset and used the curves tool to increase contrast and emphasis the textures within the structure.

Image 04 – Wide interior shot (main hall, old building)

Camera Raw Adjustments:

- Basic adjustments – I reduced the overall exposure to flatten the image slightly and because the location was lit by glass windows on the rood the entire room is white, I felt it would be easier to remove distractions and then increase the contrast again afterwards.

Photoshop Adjustments:

- Perspective correction (layer 1) – It took a few attempts to correct the perspective and I explored a few tools from lens correction, adaptive wide angle, the crop tool using guide lines and the transform>distort and perspective warp tools. I found that by using guide lines alone they key verticals and a few horizontal lines along with the perspective>distort tool I could push and pull the anchor points to correct the pin-cushion distortion.

- Clean up (layer 2) – On a new layer I made use of the clone stamp, patch tool and the spot healing tool to remove a few people, COVID signage and other distractions such as barriers and bins.

- Adjustment layers – I then applied the ‘fall colours’ colour grading and applied a curves adjustment to increase the contrast.

Image 05 – Exterior close up (old building)

Camera Raw Adjustments:

- Basic adjustments – I increased the exposure and contrast using the sliders in the basics tab as well as reducing the noise.

- Perspective correction – I used the 4 panel adjustment tool to straighten the image as it was shot at a slant and a low angle despite using a tripod.

Photoshop Adjustments:

- Adjustment layers – I didn’t need to clean up any areas of this image, so I applied another curves adjustment and then the ‘fall colours’ colour grading.
