Rain doesn't like to sleep alone.

He's never been able to figure out why. He likes to spend his days alone, tucked into corners in the library with a book. Or in the sun out by the lake. He likes his quiet. His peace.

But he hates sleeping alone.

Everyone else knows it, but no one talks about it. Its an unspoken thing. If someone doesn't follow Rain back to his room, Rain will show up at someone else's door at 2am, a blanket wrapped around his narrow shoulders.

He'll say what he always says. A groggy "can't sleep" or "cold". And he'll be ushered in to whoevers room, and bed, he chose.

Eventually, he shows up at Copia's door. At first, Copia's sure something is wrong. But Rain just rubs his eyes and mutters something about not being able to sleep. Then he steps around Copia into the room, and the next thing Copia knows, Rain is curled up in his bed.

Copia tries to sleep on the floor. He's been told not to wake a sleepwalking person, and Rain must be sleepwalking, right? But when he goes to grab a pillow from the bed, Rain grabs him by the wrist and tugs, insistent. He doesn't know what to do except listen. Still worried that if he makes the wrong move, he'll upset the quiet ghoul.

Rain curls his body around Copias, tucks his face against his neck, and starts to purr.

It's the best nights sleep Copia's ever had.

After looking over UnlovelyFrankenstein's oeuvre (and adding one of the T-shirts to my cart, NGL), a thought occurred to me that I haven't really dug into before: did Arthur Stuart even listen to or know anything about Curt Wild before Brian took him under his wing and brought him into the spotlight?

Curt may have gotten off the ground a bit earlier than Brian, as we see from the T.V. Eye scene. But the fame/infamy he experienced around that time was probably mostly through a niche audience in America, especially if Iggy Pop was meant to be a blueprint for Curt's career. Not among glam rock fans like Arthur in England.

Furthermore, we don't get much from Arthur's perspective to indicate that he discovered Curt Wild's music at all until later in the movie. The record shop flashback scene centers on Brian, and it's only when we get to the climactic scene underscored by Baby's On Fire that Arthur seems to be introduced to Curt, as a few grainy black-and-white photos in a newspaper. Granted, they're photos that get Arthur hot and bothered and ultimately contribute to him leaving home for good, but they're still just images on a page.

His introduction to Curt as a musician, performer, and a person of his own really seems to take place at the Death of Glitter concert, which leads me to think that up until then, the only exposure he's had to Curt is through the filter of Brian and his musical career. Which I find kind of fitting and heartbreaking all at once. Imagine knowing Curt just as Brian's other half - "Tracy and Hepburn for the 70s" as Mandy so wryly phrases it - seeing Brian "shot" at Arthur's first and only Maxwell Demon concert, and then being hit over the head by Gimme Danger. No wonder Arthur fell for Curt.

I guess a question that still lingers for me is, did he become a fan of Curt Wild and the Rats after that night and start listening to their records? Or was he just done with the whole scene after the Brian Slade fall-out? I'm sure there's a fic out there exploring this but I haven't found it yet.

I recall from one of your previous postings that you are particularly fond of cats, and am interested in your opinions on other animals commonly kept for human companionship. What are your thoughts on dogs? Horses? Rodents? Birds and reptiles?

I would assume that last one would have interesting twofold connotations given your status as a law student, due to these creatures' association with the legal profession - the epithet of "legal eagle" on the positive side, and all the jokes about snakes and crocodilians' show of professional courtesy on the negative. As an enthusiast of all things reptile related, I feel it is a reputation undeserved by these misunderstood, scaly creatures... as well as those aspiring to take on careers in law, very important for society...

But I digress. Lastly, I would also take it that, for rather obvious reasons, you don't really like fish, the way they remind you of a certain someone...

Thank you for the kind words and inspiring thoughts.

Despite, as you noted correctly, being fascinated by cats, I am not that fond of most domestic animals, and my liking for cats is simply an amusing exception. However, there are still some species that I could call charming and interesting in ways different from keeping them as pets.

The first animal that came to mind was a graceful black panther. Ever since I was a kid, I thought of panthers as majestic, powerful guardians, trustworthy leaders, and dangerous vigilantes. They might not represent justice in the traditional sense of court cases and hour-long debates, but if one crosses their road, they should be wary of seeing their eyes shine in the dark when the night falls.

On the other hand, I could never resist swift, elegant antelopes' beauty. As someone who has always strived for success and improvement, their efortless endurance and resilience resonated with me; antelopes are in a constant state of action, awareness, and searching for new paths, opportunities. For me, they are a symbol of motivation and energy.

As my final point, I would like to mention swans. Even though they are often depicted as an embodiment of love, from swan figurines being placed on wedding cakes to towel swans on hotel beds, these birds have always struck me as an exquisite representation of change. On another note, the concept of a swan song has captivated me ever since I learned what the expression meant. It is impossible to deny that I spent hours considering what my swan song could possibly be, and to tell the truth, I still think about it from time to time.

Unfortunately, I do not have a strong stance on reptiles. They are the most beautiful when admired from afar, and their quiet deadliness amazes me; snakes in particular have been painted as villains since the beginning of time, so despite me condemning the demonization of reptiles, I understand why people have those... preconcieved notions about them.

Keeping rodents and other smaller animals as pets does not make much sense to me. For me, it would be impossible to love something that is barely capable of communicating its needs. These fluff balls always seemed closer to decor than to actual companions.

As for fish, I would not say that a certain someone you mentioned has enough influence over me to make me actively dislike fish. Marine species look magnificent in acquariums when the interior is done right, and personally, I do not mind fish... served with a tasteful side dish, that is.

So I looked it up and found a case of a woman having 7/8th of her tongue surgically removed and relearning to talk again. It took a lot of practice but she sounds like a normal person with a slur?? Good for her! She’s understandable. She sounds a bit like me but with a little more lisp.

I think if the Dentist cut out half of Bain’s tongue then he’d be very self-conscious about it, because he’s specifically a navigator. Locke essentially replaced Bain before his kidnapping anyway. It wouldn’t be that much of a big deal because y’know. Telepathy. In canon it looks like Bain might suffer from phantom pain (something sharp all the way through the hand and bandaged poorly) so he’d already be dealing with having to type slower than he normally would. He might not want to relearn how to speak. It’s embarrassing for him and he’s ashamed, but I guess the gang could help him push through that given that he survives.

If the Dentist cut his tongue all the way out I bet it would cause sleeping issues and difficulty swallowing and stuff like that. Both ways would have Bain mostly communicating telepathically. I guess he’d have to remember how his voice is supposed to sound like.

Hey at least he can convert like four cops and speak through them so it’s not so bad.

On a scale from 1 to End Me and canon is a 5, I think it would be a 2 or a 3. Not as bad as canon and he could probably recover from it… he’s not dealing with much extra than he does in the storyline. I mean, self esteem issues and knowing he’s replaceable? Check. Just drives in the point. He’d still probably die tho huh

HEAD   CANON :         sharing   a   little   bit   of   what   kazuha’s   childhood   looked   like    &   growing   up   with   the   family   name   quite   literally   falling   apart   around   him.   forewarning   for   the   first   point   that   when   i   say   my   portrayal   is   canon   divergent   i   really   mean   that   i   do   whatever   i   want   whether   it   makes   much   sense   to   do   so   or   not   because   that’s   exactly   how   the   genpact   writers   act with   their   plotlines   fgjkhfgd.   there’s   no   real   order   to   this   post   i’m   just   dropping   random   lore   onto   the   dash  (  who would have guessed.   ) 

kazuha   comes   from   ritou   and   the   home   he   grew   up   in   was   the   large   estate  where   the   kanjou   commission   are   now   stationed.   when   he   was   sixteen ,   the    situation   the   kaedehara   were   in   started   rapidly   reaching   its   climax   and   they   began   seriously   losing   assets      —    eventually   including   their   estate.   they   moved   somewhere   much   smaller ,   and   the   estate   fell   very   quickly   into   the   hands   of   the   hiiragi   clan ,   but   THIS   IS   WHERE   HE   LIVED   for   a   majority   of   his   young   life.  he   spent   a   lot   of   his   free   time   outside   as   a   child ,   and   without   straying   too   far ,   would   often   use   the   maple   tree   and   statue   of   the   seven   by   the   cliffside   as   a   place   to   hide   out :     looking   out   across   the   waters   towards   liyue   and   wondering   what   was   really   out   there.

he   lost   his   mother   at   just   days   old ,   which   didn’t   leave   his   father   in   the   greatest   position     —     kageharu   was   a   brand new   father ,   grieving   the   unexpected   loss   of   his   wife ,   and   working   tirelessly   for   the   family   on   top   of   that.   he   really   was   at   a   bit   of   loss   for   what   he   could   do   for   his   son.   as   a   result   kazuha   was   raised   in   part   by   a   hired   caretaker.   her   name   was   okemia   and   she   is   the   closest   thing   kazuha   has   to   a   mother   figure :     his   feelings   towards   her   are   very   much   similar   to   what   he   imagines   having   one   would   have   been   like.   she   could   be   a   little   strict   with   him   at   times     (    everyone   thank   miss   okemia   for   kazuha   drinking   his   respect   women   juice    )      but   she   imparted   a   lot   of   her   own   gentle   nature   in   him   and   SHE   NEVER   LEFT   HIS   SIDE.   there   were   a   handful   of   staff   who   lingered   after   the   fall   of   the   kaedehara   and   she   was   amongst   them.   she   still   lived   with   them   at   the   time ,   was   willing   to   stay   and   support   kazuha   in   taking   over   from   his   father ,   and   it   is   one   of   his   greatest   regrets   in   life   that   in   the   end     .  .  .    he   had   nothing   left   to   give   back   to   her.   by   the   time   he   settled   the   families   debts   there   was   no   way   for   him   to   set   her   up   to   live   in   the   absence   of   the   job   and   he   carries   so   much   shame   over   it.

maybe   surprisingly ,   kazuha   was   spoiled   as   a   kid.   he   didn’t   feel   much   of   an   impact   from   their   financial   difficulties   until   he   was   around   eight   -   nine   because   kageharu   was   very   dedicated   to   giving   him   everything   he   could   possibly   have   wanted.   he   ALWAYS   KEPT    KAZUHA   A PRIORITY   despite   the   increasing   debts   he   faced ,   and   as   a   very   young   child   he   felt   something   close   to   what   he   should   have   had   growing   up.   as   soon   as   he   was   old   enough   to   know   better   he   became   very   clear   about   his   lack   of   need   or   want   for   his   father   to   spend   anything   on   him   further   than   was   necessary. 

kageharu   was   a   very   doting   father ,   but   he   wasn’t   able   to   be   present   for   much   of   kazuha’s   youth   and   that   was   felt.   he   adored   his   father.   he   would   often   wait   and   wait   for   him   to   finish   up   work   despite   the   insistence   of   okemia   AGAINST   IT   so   that   they    could   at   least   eat   together     —     until   he   was   quite   literally   starving.   more   often   than   not   this ended   in   kazuha   finding   and   bringing   dinner   to   him   in   his   personal   office.   when   he   was   little   kageharu   would   let   him   at   least   sit   on   his   lap   while   he   worked   late   into   the   evening   and   kazuha   fell   asleep   in   his   office   most   days.   as   he   got   older   this   grew   into   him   very   reluctantly   letting   kazuha   give   some minor   input   into whatever he was dealing with at time but more commonly   letting him derail   his   work slightly   and   distract   him with other conversations   because   it   really   was   the   only   guaranteed   time   they   had   to   spend   with   each   other   in   a   day.

kind   of   a   weird   kid   to   be   honest.   he   found   himself   in   an odd   place   with   his   peers   where   he   didn’t   really   take   himself   as   seriously   as   other   children   of   noble   inazuman   families ,   but   was   still   seen   as   ‘above’   the   rest.   he   didn’t   have   too   many   friends   growing   up   which   is   kind   of   fair   because   he   was   very   shy   and   quiet   and   LEARNED   TO   ENJOY   HIS   OWN   COMPANY   over   time.   he   very   unsurprisingly   does   have   some   sort   of   anxiety   disorder   which   he   will   learn   to   deal   with   exceptionally   well   as an adult but   it   didn’t   really   help   his   case   either.   what   friends   he   did   have ,   as   he   grew   older ,   he   would   sneak   out   to   see   at   night.   his   father   knew.   he   didn’t   care    —    he   would   have   said   yes   anyway ,   kazuha   just   placed   expectations   on   himself   that   didn’t   ever   exist.

when   kageharu   said   no   responsibilities   for   kazuha   he   very   much   meant   it.   he   shared   nothing   of   the   real   workload   with   him ,   but   kazuha   did   accept   that   would   pay   for   private   classes   and   such.   while   his   father   wanted   him   to   HAVE   HIS   FREEDOM   growing   up ,   they   both   knew   that   he   would   have   to   be   prepared   and   competent   for   when   the   day   came   for   that   to   end.   it   didn’t   take   too   much   of   his   time   and   he   had   little   else   to   busy   himself   with   so   he   put   a   huge   amount   of   focus   into   his   training   in   the   swordarts.   this   is   one   thing   that   nobody   gave   him   an   easy   time   with :    his   training   was   extensive ,   it   was   intense ,   and   it   was   unforgiving.   kazuha   met   the   challenge   of   that   and   then   some.   he   is   considered   a   prodigy   among   samurai   and   while   in part   that   is   down   to   natural   skill ,   a   lot   of   it   is   also   attributed   to   how   much   he   really   applied   himself   in   the   beginning.   training / sparring   and   meditation   are   both   thing   he   finds   help   clear   his   mind   and   so   he   has   never   toned it down   with   how   vigorous   he   is   in   refining   and   maintaining   technique.
