I tried sledding on a surfboard, boogie board, skimboard and traditional sled. Surfboard worked best and was my favorite.

"Although, it's like rare to get, like, a lot of snow round these parts. I'm telling you, these surfboards are multipurpose with their deattachable fins. Easily can be turned into sleds for your snowing adventures. Honestly, you're getting a bargain if you think about it... surfing in the summer, sledding in the winter." Jared said to the customer, always the salesman. "They'd make perfect Christmas presents to those you know in snowier regions too. All regions if you think about it, as I said, multipurpose."

We have a winter storm coming that I will expect to effect my ability to internet. My job is closed for the next two days.
We are expecting snow. I’ve never really dealt with snow. I think you need to salt driveways. I’m wondering if sand will do. People online are asking if sledding with surfboards works.

The very few times that GoGo had heard Cinderella come up in conversation, it was all with negative things to say. So yeah, she went for the insult, which thankfully Dale seemed to agree with. And even gave her some top secret Laveau info.
“Well, I was thinking of experimenting in solar-power engines, and that can get pricy, I’ll let you know,” She said, taking Dale’s offer to heart. Though now that brought about an interesting question - could zombie-wolves even cry? Was it possible to even get diamonds from those droopy tearducts? They would have to see.
She hadn’t felt weird about her belch in the first place. She was so used to either being alone or being around the Laveaus that she didn’t get self-conscious about such things. It was like what Dale did now - usually they were rated. Hers was around a 5, and Dale generously didn’t give hers an out-loud rating. Anything under a six didn’t deserve one.
‘Have you ever considered how completely awesome you are that we love you?’
That was .. something to think about for sure.
“I’m just still surprised you all love me,” She admitted, this time feeling a little .. embarrassed? Bashful? No, not quite, it didn’t feel like an endearing feeling. More .. uncomfortable. But maybe Dale would understand. It wasn’t like GoGo had a lot of friends when the Laveaus moved to town, no one lining up to ask her to prom so she was able to ask Dale, and well - her parents - but that was a topic best saved for later.
“You better prove it,” She said. “Because Santa never reached me, and I think I have some choice words to say to him about that. Also - I bet there’s an engine in his sled, you can’t get the speed to go around the world in one night from just flying reindeer, fuck that. I’m going to find out exactly what kind of engine he has.”
And just like that, she’d believe that there was a Santa in this Christmas world without any proof, only because Dale said so. She learned a long time ago not to underestimate the family, and that most of the crazy shit that they were saying was true. Werewolves and ghosts, moving metals and zombie cities. They probably could, and most likely have, gotten her pretty good with some of their stories, that she’d just buy into because why not? The world was a lot stranger than she had originally thought.
“I shoulda kept the zombie arm,” She sighed, realizing she no longer had a weapon.
She laughed again as he analyzed his costume. “Sorry, not sorry, but you completely do look like you would be that kind of guy. You’d be right at home with a bright pink surfboard and -” She laughed once more, an image striking her. “Gotta straighten your hair so you can let those blonde highlights shine.”
It felt like that scene in Mulan, where everyone is singing ‘A Girl Worth Fighting For’ and it’s all a merry journey until they reach the canyon of bodies. It stopped being so happy-go-lucky, actually seeing where his house had once been. She went up the road as far as it went and then parked right at the end of it, slowly getting out of the car as well. She held onto the top of the door, ready to dart back in if there was any movement of zombies. But it felt so silent, there was barely a rustling of leaves.
There weren’t any bodies but there was no hint that there had ever been a house there at all either.
There wasn’t much to see, other than a gorgeous landscape, but she tried to visualize it. It was hard to see anything other than the current New Zealand house, but perched out here, just because of how much the Laveaus had customized their house. It was so them, it was weird to picture anything else. But damn this was a good plot of land.
“ATVs would have been wicked out here,” She said, imagining the speed that someone could get out here, with such long stretches. It could hold a damn racetrack.
And then he was running. She just managed to catch sight of the back of his shirt before she chased after him, her bare feet against the grass, heels shed long ago. Luckily, from all of the football and track she had done in high school, she was quick, and was able to catch up without losing too much of her breath.
She was once again unsurprised. An ewok village. And he was going to go rushing in.
“I don’t know if I’m drunk enough for this,” She curled her nose. But then seeing that Dale was going to go no matter what, she conceded. She was lamenting not bringing the bottle with her. “Just don’t fall on me, my bony ass won’t be much of a cushion.”
"I don't know. I get lazy on my haircuts sometimes. I'm not sure my curls would do well with a cabby's hat. I'll have to try it out." He laughed.
Were Flotsam and Clopin good friends? "Oh, fuck yeah. The best. He wouldn't be Uncle Clopin if not. Pretty sure my dad was just a busker's fan boy hiding in the tree with stars in his eyes till they finally met." He smirked just picturing it. Dale aired it on the real.
When GoGo had the gull to say money couldn't buy common sense Dale's smile grew and his body didn't just lean in, his heart did. This wasn't a boy that got to open up much so to feel anyone on his side after how hard he fought as a teenager when shit began to hit the fan to watch his own mother not choose him, always wondering what was wrong with him, why he wasn't good enough, not that he'd admit that to a soul, it just felt... good.
"You're telling me. Right? Finally." Then he leaned in real close and told a family secret. It wasn't even his secret to tell, but that's how much Dale was moved by the feeling of connection to another person at all. "She cried diamonds. She was a crybaby about everything. Well, Chip can do it. Cry diamonds. But Chip doesn't cry. It takes a lot to get Chip to cry." It might not have been his to tell, but how he ended it was the most Dale offer ever. "And just for saying what you did, if you ever really get hard up, just let me know, I'll pin him down and pluck his nose hairs. I'll get those eyes watering diamonds to pawn just for you."
Only Dale.
When GoGo belched Dale took that as cue to belch one out on purpose only to try to make his a little louder and then say his own score out loud. "Eh maybe 7. I'll do better next round. Back to the tour."
Also, only Dale. Dale's way of not letting a lady feel weird about the belch as they stared at the playground where the Renault house used to be surrounded by such a ritzy neighborhood. She said she couldn't imagine it. "Yeah well, it was a big ass fancy place with a pool. Gated shit."
He did not look ashamed at all when he was called out as the panty thief. "Because you are correct. Sue me. The panty jail is overcrowded. The most I'll get is probation." He teased.
He kept watching GoGo laugh and he wasn't sure he'd seen her laugh and smile so much. He wasn't even quite sure she could. He liked it.
She asked him if he kicked ass. "Oh puleeze. What do you think? People really need to learn starting shit with this family ends up fatal. People never get the best of us. If they ever win a battle, they only start a war."
He leaned his head back mocking it all. Dale, like most his family did not seek power. He only wanted to be left in alone.
"Look at this Feral city stricken off the US map." He laughed alcohol filled bigger picture eyes all wide quite proud. "Our friends did that. Our circle. Look at Pipes and the Utopia that is that entire country now. An entire country and city of fuck this world's rules. My family's people did that." He poked at GoGo's arm. "Have you ever considered how completely awesome you are that we love you? I mean really. You're so fucking cool."
Yup, Dale was indeed that I love you drunk.
Unless he was angry.
It was Halloween. He was home. He had no reason to be angry. He was happy.
"Oh, you want to come back for a Funkytown party? Then we're putting it on the list. It's happening. We're gonna check it off. I'm taking ya. Hap-pen-nen. It's in stone now."
He thought about her words. "You know what? It was. I didn't get then because it's just where we were. I didn't know any different to know. But it was. It was a cool place, GoGo. It was. I was fucking lucky. Minus the skeeters of course."
She didn't say much when he spoke of Megabyte but it was in her eyes. If anyone understood it was her and he hadn't even realized all this time how alike they really were. He took the taki with a nod of thanks and even though no words were exchanged it felt like a lot more was traded between them, and it felt safe to leave it there with her.
With a jacked-up laptop in tow and emotions shoved back down where Dale likes to keep them the tour moved along.
Of course, Skull Rock. "Yeah, we mean it when we call Willem a pirate."
As for Christmasland and capitalism, "That's why it's well hidden in the depths of this swamp. If you knew this swamp, you'd know why tourists don't have a tendency to find it. I'll tell you what. If we ever get a chance to come here at Christmas time, I'll prove it to you. But it's one of those all nighter hikes. You'll also find out once you're in, you get hijacked by so much merriment it'll make you puke and even capitalists can't escape without jingle bells on their toes and a candy cane in their hand not knowing how they even got back home. You fall asleep there you might just end up in your bed back home. It's fucked up. Like Christmas morning dream magic. It's so weird. It's like the place decides if you get to stay." He shook his head just remembering the wacked upness.
"Oh yeah. I imagine there's still zombies out here. I mean, our family used to release them in the wilds. We used to keep a population count. That was just us. Who knew what other witches were doing. Plus, have zombie releases, like hunting parties for fun. Counts could have been off. Sometimes we'd just end because we were partying it up. There's bound to have been some strays. But, after what happened to the city they've probably migrated over time even if there weren't a lot of people in the swamps to begin with."
As for the change of clean clothes. "Eh, don't worry about it. I'm a swamp boy. I'll live."
The compliments. He couldn't quite tell if she was bothered by them nor was sure he cared. He was telling the truth.
But how much had he had to drink?
"Not enough yet."
He took another swig.
"Doesn't mean it's not true, GoGo. Don't be shy about compliments. You deserve 'em."
He looked down at his Ken doll crop top and laughed.
"Hopefully that doesn't mean I look like someone who really would challenge someone to a beach off. But, cool. Now you've done it. I'll remember that for later. I'll keep up the crop top trend... for your parents." He winked.
There was something fun about that day despite it being super sad.
What else was super sad was the next scattered remains of his actual life. Piper burned down their homestead, but what still remained was random stick dolls or other Blair Witch looking symbols hanging from tree branches the closer they got to the property to scare tourists off. Dale could remember all the actual protection spells on their home only for a family member to destroy it from the inside. He wasn't even mad. It just stirred feelings.
"Woah, woah, woah. Here we are. There. Park.... wherever."
At this point it was pointless to tell her where to pull up. Nearly everything had been burned down by Piper's Hellfire. The fact it was put out was a miracle. It'd been a couple years, and the land had started to heal itself.
Dale opened his car door and take a look around despite GoGo's early concerns of zombies. He still had Chip's gun from earlier, but for now he left it in the car. He was scanning the area visually. It was huge with no house on it. They'd always had such a huge yard anyway. Plus, the yard was right against the river. It was a gorgeous open landscape now. The entire home's remains were buried like a sinkhole underground. The open image so clean and healthy left Dale breathless. He started to point.
"Bunny run. There. Picture it. House. There. Dad's houseboat was always docked there. Pontoon. There." He'd cover his mouth in between each new direction in awe of the nothingness. "Paintball course. All the haystacks. There. Garden. There. That's where we kept all our atv's and off roads. We had a mini-shop to be our own garage in there."
"Oh! It's a few miles out." He spun around. "In that direction. Best mudding run in four county swamps. I swear. We know a dry patch for motorcross too. Hill hopping was Chip's go to. He was a pro. I'll tell you another secret. When we pair up as a team my metal skills help hold a car together that might not otherwise. But I only cheat when people are assholes to me. Plus, it's not always cheating when riding against other magic users. You never know what game they've got up their sleeve. No holds barred derbies are funny. People hexing the fuck outta people."
Then he saw something he didn't have to imagine. "Oh, my fuck. Look up there. Look. Look." He started jogging through the woods. "Is that. It is. Oh God. It is. I thought the fire got everything. Look."
There up high in a tree was one of the platforms he and his brother built. These were seriously tall trees, not your average backyard tree from a suburb.
"It's the Ewok Village. Well, part of it. Oh, look another one. A hut one." He pointed in another direction. Nothing could have wiped the smile off his face then. "The zip line is gone. We used to have them running from tree to tree. We'd walk across them, had ropes, and rope ladders, or just climbed depending on the tree." Then he gave the tree a good look.
"I'm gonna try it."
He was grinning big.
"You wanna?"
He was pointing up.
The guy was having trouble sitting down in a car, got drunk, and now thought he was going to climb a giant tree. Yup, that was so Dale.

Do the characters have a favorite season? And favorite thing to do in that season?
Tommy: Spring—just hanging out with his friends in the late spring, when summer's approaching and school's almost out but they're all still together
Dev: Summer—hopping on xyr bike and riding down the coast, stopping occasionally to go swimming or rent a surfboard
EJ: Fall—grabbing a blanket, baked goods, warm drinks, and chilling in the park (knitting, reading, crafting, etc.)
A/E: Summer—friendly sand volleyball tournaments followed by grilling out with family and/or friends
Lucía: Winter—going skiing then hanging out in a lodge with delicious, warm food and drinks
Ciel: Fall—spooky festivals, pumpkin carving, apple orchards, and night-time corn mazes (they do so love getting lost in the dark)
Danny: Winter—getting bundled up in warm knits and going sledding followed by some late night, snowy stargazing
The Celestial: Fall—getting into a costume and dealing out many tricks and treats...
Rose: Spring—going on hikes to find sprawling meadows dotted with freshly blooming wildflowers; bonus points for baby animal spottings

I’m glad to see the original demo of “Biggering” getting more recognition, but there’s another Lorax song that I’ve scarcely seen mentioned despite equally impactful changes being made during production: the opening “Thneedville”.
Compare the opening lines from the original demo...
“In Thneedville It’s a brand new day Can’t see the sun But we like it that way Here in get-more-than-we-need-ville”
...to the the final song’s version:
“In Thneedville It’s a brand new dawn With brand new cars And houses and lawns Here in got-all-that-we-need-ville”
I suppose the first few lines were simply changed to be less dark/depressing, but as for the italicized portion, swapping out those 3 words completely reverses the meaning of the sentence -- from excess/over-consumption, to sufficiency.
Also consider the closing lines. Original:
“Here in spend-until-you-bleed-ville Growing-like-a-weed-ville Please-don't-mention-greed-ville We’re happy here in... Thneedville!”
Final:
“Here in love-the-life-we-lead-ville Destined-to-succeed-ville We-are-all-agreed-ville We love it here in... Thneedville!”
It went from a blunt critique of consumerism, to sounding more like generic motivational home decor.
The demo also has an entire section illustrating the original intention for Ted’s character arc: he starts out very materialistic (initially only wanting a tree so he could show off having something new and special) before later learning the error of his ways and growing as a person. At first it’s pretty on-the-nose though:
“All I ever wanted is a Whose-it ...Except for the time that I wanted a scooter, A cellphone, a trombone, a laptop computer, A sports car, an SUV, robot that looks like me, A broadsword, a surfboard, a gas-powered sled, A little pet monkey that danced on my head But this! This is totally different ‘Cause all I ever wanted in my life is the stuff that I... don’t have!”
And of course, in the final film this arc is simply scrapped; instead Ted’s only motivation is wanting to impress his crush, and he does not change or grow as a person throughout the film because his original defining flaw (which is directly intertwined with the story’s intended message!) has been removed entirely.
I honestly feel like this film was always gonna be doomed to botch or at least dampen the original book’s message, given various factors like the feature-length runtime, relying heavily on marketing & brand deals to succeed, etc., but even so, there are so many things that could have made the final film better that were ultimately cut out. Frustrating.

The Lorax Musical Rewrite: Act 1, Scene 1
Look, just assume that for this first scene, everyone is singing unless indicated otherwise. Also, listen to “Thneedville (Demo)” before reading, so you can know what they are actually singing. Btw, I didn’t write the song, I just planned out the stage directions and other details not related to lyrics.
Act 1, Scene 1:
Setting: Thneedville
(Lights slowly go up on an empty stage as the beginning of “Thneedville (Demo)” starts playing. On stage are the buildings and streets of Thneedville, or at least the basics. All the buildings are broken and crumbled, and everything is a slightly bleak color)
Ensemble
In Thneedville
It’s a brand new day
(As the ensemble begins to sing, they gradually enter the stage, acting out daily life. All are dressed in far too many clothes, and some are holding shopping bags filled to the brim with random objects)
Ensemble
Can’t see the sun
But we like it that way
(Ensemble pauses what they are doing before turning their heads towards the audience)
Ensemble
Here in Get-More-Than-We-Need-Ville
(All go back to what they were doing)
Ensemble
In Thneedville
Where the buildings are broke
(Where the buildings are broke)
And the streetlights drop
And the chemicals flow
Little Girl
(Standing front center stage) I just went swimming, and now I glow! (Runs offstage)
Ensemble
(All put their hands on over their hearts and face towards audience) Just one place has stayed the same
The hill that bares our founder’s name
A tradition we maintain
Random Man
Soon to become a pizza chain!
Ensemble
Pizza chain!
Pizza chain!
(Everyone goes back to what they were doing before Mr. O’Hare enters from upstage right and walks grandly over to upstage center, followed by a bodyguard. All turn to Mr. O’Hare)
Ensemble
(Cheerfully) Oh look it’s Aloysius O’Hare (Aloysius O’Hare)
The man who
Bottle up fresh air
And became a zillionaire!
(All lights on stage go off except for a spotlight on O’Hare, who has walked to center stage)
O’Hare
(To audience, as though telling a secret) Everyone round here works for me
I sell them something they should get for free
We’ll live in perfect harmony!
(All stage lights come back up and all surround O’Hare)
Ensemble
In Thneedville!
In Thneedville!
Hip hooray! Hip hooray! Hip hip hooray!
(All stage lights begin to go dark with the cast exiting the stage as a spotlight lands far downstage left, and Ted comes onstage to stand under the spotlight. Ted addresses audience for the rest of the song)
Ted
All I ever wanted is a whose-it
I would never flaunt it
Oh how I’d use it
Everybody has one
Like Jared and Julie and Jim
And even Ronald Shnook has one
And nobody’s lamer than him
(Lovingly) And I would play with it all day (Play with all day)
And never ever lose it (Never lose it)
Cause all I’ve ever wanted is a whose-it
(Hesitates) Except-
(Runs to downstage center, spotlight following him)
For the time that I wanted a scooter
A cell phone, a trombone, a laptop computer
A sports car, an SUV, robot that looks like me
A broadsword, a surfboard, a gas powered sled
Little pet monkey that danced on my head!
But this!
This is totally different!
Cause all I’ve ever wanted in my life
Is the stuff that I
Don’t have
(Stage lights come back up as the ensemble re enters stage and dance their instructed choreography. Ted doesn’t join them, instead staying in place as he looks straight at the audience or slightly upwards, depending on director’s instructions)
Ensemble
In Thneedville, it’s a brand new day!
Ted
All I ever wanted is the stuff that I don’t have!
Ensemble
Can’t see the sun
But we like it that way!
Here in Get-More-Than-We-Need-Ville!
Ted
Want it terribly!
Ensemble
In Thneedville!
Ted
Want it horribly!
Ensemble
You’re never alone
Ted
All I ever wanted is the stuff that I don’t have!
Ensemble
Because you always
Got the stuff that you own
Ted
Where is the stuff that I
Haven’t had?
Ensemble
Here in Spend-Until-You-Bleed-Ville!
Growing-Like-A-Weed-Ville!
Please-Don’t-Mention-Greed-Ville!
We’re happy here in
Thneedville!

『 A secret story in Australia 』
I couldn't stand the cold of winter in Japan, so I decided to go to Australia for two weeks.
“ It's the money I saved hard, and I'll enjoy it to my heart's content! “
After arriving in Australia, I go to - WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo -. I wanted to see koalas and kangaroos.
First, I hugged a koala.I was surprised. Oh, my God, I could talk to a koala.

Koara said,
“ My name is Buddy! Christmas is just around the corner in Australia. The kangaroo is good friends with Santa Claus.Let's go together! “ .
I went to the kangaroo with Buddy.
When I arrived at the kangaroo area, Santa Claus was there. At first, I thought he was a strange uncle. That's because Santa wasn't what I knew. His clothes didn't change much, but he wore sunglasses and burned his skin a little. I thought it was a wild Santa Claus and talked to him.

I said,
“ You're Santa Claus, right? What are you doing with the kangaroo? “
Santa Claus said,
“ Oh, that's right.I'm Santa Claus. And this guy is my partner, Marlu, a kangaroo. Nice to meet you. I was cleaning up surfboard the I use for delivery with Marlu. ”
I learned for the first time that Santa Claus' partner in Australia is a kangaroo, not a reindeer. In addition, I learned for the first time that I would carry presents on a surfboard, not on a sled.
I said,
“ I came from Japan. If you don't mind, can I help Santa Claus with his work? “
Santa Claus said ,
“ Of course! Come here again tomorrow!I'm going to distribute presents♪ “
https://youtu.be/5UfMwRD3AzU
Next day…
I went to Santa Claus and Marlu as I was told.Of course with Buddy. Ten bags were prepared. Each one was so heavy that I was worried if I could really carry it.
Santa Claus said,
“ I'm sure I'll remember the house I'll distribute today by night! “
Buddy said,
“ All I have to do is ride it… “
Santa Claus said,
“ Sure! “
I thought Santa Claus and Marlu had a better memory than anyone else.
Night has come. It's finally time to leave.
Santa Claus said,
“ We're leaving from the sea.I'm going to sprinkle magic powder on the surfboard, Marlu, Miku, and Buddy now! “

Buddy and I shouted in unison,
“ Wow!!!!!! I feel lighter! It's so light that I think I'm going to float!! “
Santa Claus and Marlu were smiling.
Santa Claus said,
“ Are you ready?? Let’s gooooooo!!! “

We flew into the sky in no time. Santa Claus magically distributed presents. It was an instantaneous event. All I could do was watch. Marlu and Santa Claus passed the stars refreshingly. It was so cool.
Santa Claus finished handing out presents in no time and came back to the sea.
I said,
“ Thank you for your valuable experience.I'll never forget that. “
Santa Claus said,
“ Isn't Santa Claus cool in summer too? I'd be happy if you could enjoy it. Finally, I'll give you a present. “
I got a picture of Santa Claus, Marlu, me and Buddy handing out presents happily today. I was so happy that I couldn't stop crying.
Santa Claus said,
“ Time flies like a dream. Sweet dreams. “
I found myself sleeping in bed.
Was yesterday's thing a dream? No, the picture I got yesterday was beautifully decorated next to the bed.
It was a wonderful time that I will never forget.

Wow, finally a package that comes with something written about it?
I know, right? Let's see what it says...

WAIT. Hold on a second! So those other two mystery packages I got were from your crew too? There was nothing on them to tell who sent those, I was so confused until now!
And if you already got the skateboard and the sled... Then this one is a new surfboard for you!
That's so cool! Can't wait for the winter to end so I can try it too! In the meantime we can have fun with the sled! Hey Rubble, get your snowboard, let's play! And tell your crew I loved the gifts, can't wait to get to know them!
Surprise Package
Hey guys, I'm home!

so im one of those lucky bastards whos memories and experiences and things dont get polluted when i hate a person involved in them. anyway one of my favourite memories atm is back in 2018 during the beast from the east cold wave when the entirety of my uni town got frosted and snowed and iced over and in the middle of the night every student who lived in the area went sledding.
let me set the scene. cornish town, as seaside as seaside can be, people go there to surf in uk. massively steep hills (my ass is still built from the daily treks) right on the high street (where i lived). they also face the docks. night time in february. twenty something twenty year olds with surfboards and body boards all gather up on the steepest road and barrel down on the ice. you have to stop so you dont get too close to the water. i have never experienced anything better in my life. maybe ill post a video
