new oc!!!! my strange creature!! this is Skyskimmer (or just Skim). they're a weird bird-bug-thing.

Skyskimmer (they/them, loosely Autobot aligned) is independent to a fault, often to the point of isolation. As a sailplane, they can glide for many hours without needing to land for fuel. Skim wants to be liked and valued, which is hard to do when you look and act like a very unsettling bug and are alone for long periods of time.

Their desire for independence is at odds with their inherent reliance on others, as a sailplane, they don't have a way to get off the ground by themselves and thus must rely on being being winched or towed into the air. Alternatively, thrown like a paper airplane. They can hop and glide short distances on their own (like a bird!), but without the requisite height to catch thermals and updrafts, they are they grounded. They do not mind this, as it allows them to spend more time indulging one of their favorite hobbies- observing humans.

Their interest in humans stems from a sort of scientific enthusiasm/"WOW cool bug!!" type of fascination rather than seeing them as people. Because of this, they have a collection of medical journals and texts from around the world, and is skilled field medic... for humans specifically. Skim is absolutely trash at fixing up their fellow bots, do NOT let them try anything, they will weld someones servo to their leg.

Unfortunately their scientific interest in humans means that they have terrible bedside manner and they will explain to you the many ways you can be eviscerated or die horribly, because they think it's REALLY cool.

... Safe to say, they rarely get to use their (human) medical knowledge.

Skim's real, usable(!!) talent lies in observing meteorological phenomena and predicting weather patterns with startling accuracy. Is it an outlier ability? Or just eerily good readings? Skim doesn't know and doesn't care, it's one of the only times they have an excuse to glide without having to ask someone to help them into the sky, so they'll take what they can get.

Element paced the deck of the sky skimmer, his patience running on fumes at this point. Finally, Finally, his boys had found the source of whatever was tearing giant holes in the reality of space and time. Creating Null forbid giant fucking rift clusters that took too long to re-seal and allowed too many void space entities to scuttle out and cause problems. Admittedly, Element was hoping this was some sort of Imperium/Chaos Marine Chapter that got their hands on a trans dimensional warp drive. Cuz then he wouldn’t feel bad just detonating their whole damn ship and let them sort things out with whatever gods the answered too. Hell, he’d even accept that Zoe girl from Runeterra that got her hands on something she shouldn’t have, it would at least give him a reason to visit that dimension again. But no, the void just had to surprise him with a whole Null damn Metrotitan.

Element glanced back at the three battle cruisers holding in low orbit above the planet. He had no issue with the cybertronian race, even though the Decepticons seemed adamant about getting in the way of his duties or trying to steal his tech every chance they got. He didn’t even want to call in the battle cruisers, but he also didn’t know what side this Metrotitan feel on, and he didn’t have a single spell in his arsenal that could handle something that big. The skyskimmer came to a halt just a few yards above the deep blue water below. The school of drones just below the surface were converging on this spot, showing a massive living vessel just a few 100ft down. “Are you sure we can’t just, i don’t know, send a pod down there with the message “Hey big guy I’d like a word with ya please?’” The Engie MECS looked back at the Guardian with all five of its sensors. Even without eyebrows, Element got the feeling he was trying to say “......Yeah, no....” The Engie sent a signal up to one of the cruisers, which maneuvered to bring its tractor beam projector to bear. As the beam activated, a sonar pulse pinged through the multiple underwater drones, basically translating too:

“Get your big metal butt up here! The Void Guardian would like to have a word with you...”

It had been...a chaotic few months.

No...moons. They had a lunar calendar here. She had to call it moons now.

Already she’d given too much away. Kharn suspected her. Killian probably suspected her. Voldo outright knew her.

It all had seemed so innocuous. Once, when asked what her future plans were, what her purpose was, Laelia could not answer. Then Tieve arrived with a solution: Salemtaza’s Voyage, a massive Ul’dahn research airship, was in need of a skilled pilot. Surely she qualified?

“Yeah, and how do they feel about Garleans?” was Laelia’s sardonic response.

But Tieve assured her that the expedition leader, Nathaniel Salem, wouldn’t mind.

And now here she was. She kept her third eye covered and insisted she was a Shroud native named “Jeanne d’Meche” -- not knowing that such a contrived Elezen name was outright odd.

Salem had initially been understanding and kind, but of late he was suspicious courtesy of her connection to Valeriaux. He’d spoken of odd rumors surrounding the man, when Valeriaux himself had only spoken highly of Nathaniel.

...Val...

If you’d asked Laelia who she imagined herself coupled with, she would have written out a list of gorgeous amazonian women, likely Viera. Instead she was now sleeping with a Duskwight, a Gridanian lord, who had shared as many secrets with her as she had him. He had unexpectedly proven her rock in the most turbulent of times, the order to her chaos, the soothing shade to her burning light. And all because she’d dared to land her stolen airship in the Shroud... But no, that wasn’t complicated enough, of course; fate decreed that she was placed on the engineering team, courtesy of her familiarity with magitek. And those nerds, those assholes, those goobers...they had now become her family, even as Lucas grounded her for stealing a skyskimmer. They were the positivity and enthusiasm she’d never had in her life, the beating heart that had been strangled away beneath Garlean propaganda.

And then there was Lune. Precious Lune.

The brilliant engineer. The burning flame. The endless font of purity and optimism. The...Dalmascan.

Laelia was 12th Legion. She only passed through Dalmasca. But she still felt responsible for Rabanstre’s ultimate fate. The way he spoke of his homeland, with such passionate fondness...each time it was a lance through her heart. She loved the boy like a little brother, wanted to make it right somehow. If her people had destroyed his culture, then by her hand would she see it restored, dammit!

But tonight, she sat with a bottle in her hands, staring at it with abject guilt. Valeriaux hated it when she drank, tried to stop it...but by Solus she hurt so much.

He and Lune believed in her.

Kharn said Salem would cremate her when she was no longer of use to him.

And somewhere out there, Vicky and Max were yet living.

What did she do? What could she do?

And so Laelia drank herself to sleep, and passed out upon her bed. Tomorrow, she would go through the motions once again, knowing that it was all pathetically shallow.

Death was likely around the corner, and she had fuck all to show for it.

just spent a half hour making a Gummi Ship that I think might already be outclassed by the standard L2 blueprints

but it was fun and the Skyskimmer looks rad so that’s really what matters in the end

Well, it’s no skyskimmer, but he’ll certainly have a good time trying to figure out how to ride this hoverboard.

And maybe he’ll mess around with the machinery—what was the fun in getting new gadgets if he didn’t take them apart to figure out how they worked?
