Dev Diary #1 (Oct 27, 2024) - It All Starts Here!

Hi! I'm Pixie, and I am currently in active development on a new large-scale, fully voice-acted & immersive Skyrim follower mod named Seraph!

I've decided to start up a regular Developer Diary (You Are Here) to share progress & roadmap the release as she gets further along! Also if you haven't already, join the Discord (link after the jump) to stay updated & involved or just to say hi 🩷

Here's some early development highlights so far:

✨️ For Seraph's custom follower framework, I've built a new & improved core framework that is much more effective, elegant, & efficient than the framework most follower mod authors start with, & one of the benefits of this is that it's much harder for external problematic mods like AFT to break her brain!

✨️ Seraph's character and story has been deeply developed already, & her personal quests will be expansive! Her main personal questline is currently planned to play out in four acts/chapters, with an optional fifth chapter for...

✨️ Romance 💖 Seraph will be romanceable (& marriageable) for certain types of player characters! Without saying anything spoiler-y, Seraph's romance is not frivolous, exploitative, or lazy (as is often the case with romance options in many mods out there), it is an important narrative aspect of her character, and adds to a story that plays out over the course of your adventures together. Romance is not the main focus of the mod, & is completely optional, though just as much time & care is being put into it as any other part of the mod.

✨️ Seraph has a complex Approval system that feels much like the companion approval in Baldur's Gate 3, which has already been built & implemented. Your choices will matter, what you say and do will affect your relationship & things can turn out very differently based on dialogue chosen, playstyle choices, and more.

✨️ Seraph is feature-rich, and full of customizable toggles, options, and mechanics that range from functional and helpful to ones that just make her feel alive and fully fleshed out as a character. She can spar with you, have discussions on books and lore topics, bail you out of prison (with potential Approval ramifications!), won't call you the Dragonborn if you don't want her to, and a lot more. She also has all of the customary bells & whistles like follow distance controls, lore-friendly summon ability, relax/sandbox behavior options, etc. Many of these features are already built & implemented, or in various stages of that process.

✨️ I've also been working closely with my fantastic 3D artist @legendaryfirewizard (the artist who created Redcap's custom helmet model & several of Xelzaz's custom models) on a visual centerpiece that I don't want to spoil just yet, but that is central to Seraph's story & makes her very unique from any other follower mod.

There's so much more I'm excited to share, but without spoiling too many of the character & backstory details juuuust yet, I hope this first Dev Diary can give a small idea of what I'm hoping to achieve with this follower.

I've learned so much over the past few years of creating mods, and I've grown so much as a creator and a person in that time. Seraph is my love letter to creating, to character writing, to fantasy and RPG's, and to The Elder Scrolls which starting with Morrowind inspired me to imagine characters and stories within the world of Tamriel and beyond.

The two things I love most about language are simultaneously that the human need to communicate is so strong that we will invent languages, vocabularies, and new turns of phrases at the drop of a hat (freeing our thoughts from the confines of our mind), but also that language is so naturally limiting that it won't truly encapsulate your deepest, most inner thoughts and feelings (your thoughts are yours, but at what cost). went outside without my glasses (prescription sunglasses) yesterday on accident and it confirmed for me my headcanons about what higher vampires see in the daylight: bright, blurry, struggling to make out faces… i guess it is the same impossibility that trying to see in the dark is for humans.

so i like to think regis squints somewhat on sunny days… they picked him up from autumn to spring, enduring overcast, rainy, and snowy weather—so not too many sunny days in their schedule, however there might have been a few here and there… 🤔

I went to like a viking site today for a festival, bc I am an ex-archeology student (we parted ways lovingly, turns out I’m just not built for digging) and I love a chance to go look at old stuff and smell like a bonfire and get some jewelery and stuff

However, it always reminds me just how chaotic living in those close quarters is. Like in HOO when the romans camp out on HBH, it’s like— I’m medicated but even still my ADHD ass was having a time™️ walking around the camp. It’s loud, because you’re in open air and tents don’t provide any sound proofing. Its also hot AF if it’s sunny, so everyone’s sweaty. People are making food in various places so theres smoke and dust in the air, which not only created a lovely coating on your skin when you sweat but also hurts your eyes. I actually found myself wondering if archers would be bothered by it in the long term, since watery eyes are a minus if you’re going to aim at things. Ig dust and stuff is also bad lol.

I know the viking settlements were a bit less structured than the romans but no amount of symmetric lining up of the tents will remove the noise, smell and dust of living in tents on a field. And the smoke.

Also the people dressing up like vikings always confuse me. Because yeah I get you’re showing how they would dress but my guy it is 28 degrees and there’s not a cloud in the sky.

And you’re wearing three layers, leather shoes and a hood. Take the hood off, Leif. Please, Søren, you’re going to get heat stroke, take the pelt off. And the women wearing both the underpants, kirtle and the little apron thingies that go over the first dress AND the hats. Like??? Bbg you look so slay, please just take the hat off or remove the long underwear. I was actually concerned for some of them lol.

Like, as it is with archeology, we can’t say for sure, but I would wager in my most humble opinion, that the vikings took their shirts off and dressed down in hot weather too. Or it’s probable that they picked up some ideas on hot-weather clothing on their travels to warmer climates. There were for example two lovely vendors at the festival I chatted with who’d travelled from Bulgaria and while they were both dressed time-appropriately they wore lighter, white linnens that hang losely, compared to the heavier knits that the scandinavian vendors wore.

I appreciate comitting to the historical accuracy as much as any other nerd, but I also used to wear a 3-layer, heavy uniform (that included leather boots and a hat) in all kinds of weather, including extremely hot, for hours at a time and I got second hand heat-exhaustion looking at those people lol

And we know some of the vikings’ clothes were breathable, however that factor gets ruined if you’re wearing layers upon layers. Thank you for coming to my archeology tedtalk lol

With all that said I had fun, and the people looked great, no comments there, except the guy with the pelt idk what he was doing— some kind of pirate viking maybe idk….And I got some jewelry so that’s fun. I regret not getting two things….luckily I got their cards so I can check their online shops >:>

Bambi made a bimbo necromancer cannibal bosmer on Skyrim and this is the most fun Bambi had in ages. Got caught doing necromancy, guard tried to arrest Bambi, Bambi sucked his dick to get out of it, he turned hostile after the OS scene (it was a glitch, he wasn’t supposed to and none of the other guards did), so she killed him and ate him, then used his flesh to make a filling stew.

Now she’s playing her lute at camp while her akaviri bf eats her Nord stew, and her telvanni wizard bf complains about her lute playing, cozy.

12.18.2024 (part 3)

I was at the same cliff top lookout as the last dream and could look down at the valley like a Skyrim map. It was beautiful, untouched nature. Someone warned me that a huge area was going to be bulldozed and used for some kind of party (or would be occupied by humans in some way), and the animals needed my help defending it. I was told the area was called Southfringe Sanctum (which is actually the name of a location in Skyrim), and I couldn’t find it on the map, so I went down there in person.

I was with a skinny blonde girl dressed in black, and we were running through the woods, but it looked more like tunnels. I was extremely fast, agile, and acrobatic, moving in ways that would only be possible in anime or something. When the humans came, they had already destroyed a part of the forest and were setting up the party, but I turned into a lion and fought/scared some of them off. The weird thing was, I had to narrate things like a story in order to make them happen (for example, “The humans ran away screaming.”) People were giving me weird looks as I was narrating and I felt embarrassed but kept going because it was the only thing that worked.

Homelander and Superman were also there, and I knew they were invincible, but was determined to fight them anyway. They were sitting at a table and were also giving me weird, disdainful looks. One of them asked, “Do you really think you can make us leave?” And I raked my claws across both of their faces, saying, “Get. Out.”

There were a few more stragglers who were also standing around looking at me weirdly, and I said something like “And then the rats overran the clearing,” and sure enough, a flood of them came, and that ended the battle.

I was dashing away when I heard my legal name being called. I turned around, went back through one of the tunnels, and found a laptop that was on a zoom call with a few people, including Jonathan from Queer Eye and Pedro Pascal. We were all talking and laughing and congratulating me on what a good job I did, talking about it in a way that made it seem more like I had been filming a movie. I woke up shortly after.
