Orion Crestguard’s life was one of honor and duty, serving as a guardian of the United Reef Kingdoms and the legendary Mace of the Tides. Born into one of the kingdom’s great noble families, Orion was a trusted companion to Prince Kettlestein Gray. The two grew up exploring the coral-laden expanses of the kingdom, forging a bond that ran as deep as the oceans they called home.

When Prince Kettlestein was abducted, Orion was devastated, mourning the loss of his friend along with the rest of the kingdom. Years later, when the prince mysteriously returned, the joy was palpable—but Orion couldn’t shake a gnawing unease. The Kettlestein he had known was vibrant and full of life, yet this new prince, though outwardly charismatic, felt artificial, like a puppet performing a well-rehearsed act.

Orion’s suspicions deepened when the Crestguard family awoke one night to find the Mace of the Tides missing. Following the trail of the thief, Orion confronted "Kettlestein" in a secluded part of the palace. Armed with an old training trident, Orion demanded answers. The confrontation quickly turned into a fight, and Orion realized the truth—this was not his prince. The mimic, Zap, fought with unnatural strength and precision. Despite his best efforts, Orion was outmatched, escaping only by sheer willpower and managing to reclaim the mace before fleeing.

Returning to warn the kingdom, Orion was horrified to discover he had been framed. The mimic spun a convincing story, casting Orion as the traitor who had stolen the kingdom’s most precious artifact. Branded a criminal, Orion had no choice but to flee into exile, carrying the Mace of the Tides with him.

Orion’s journey eventually led him to the Skylanders. There, to his shock and relief, he encountered the real Kettlestein, who had escaped Kaos’ clutches and was fighting alongside the heroic defenders of the Skylands. Their reunion was filled with bittersweet joy as the two old friends vowed to restore their kingdom and confront the mimic that threatened to unravel everything they held dear. Orion, armed with the Mace of the Tides and his unwavering loyalty, joined the Skylanders, determined to protect his friend, his kingdom, and the Skylands themselves.

Now this was a design I was actually dreading, I suck at drawing crabs. Like I do everything in my power to avoid it.

But hey! Orion doesn't look too bad compared to my earlier attempts. For Wham-Shell (that's who Orion is btw), I wanted to change up his appearance, make him look more like an actual crustacean. And I think I succeeded. I took some inspiration from other crab characters in the Skylander franchise, as well as a cute little photo I found of a crab's mouth... I am now scarred for life, so I hope it was worth it!

Anyways, in actual reference to the story, we wanted to make the Skylands seem a bit less... expansive. (Which doesn't make that much sense in hindsight.)

We wanted to make the world feel more lived in, where characters knew each other and met each other outside of just being Skylanders. Think of how League of Legends writes their characters, how they connect to each other as much as the world around them.

The games and show make the Skylanders seem like they can go anywhere and do whatever they want, but what if they couldn't. What if their were entire civilizations who despised them. Not every problem or mission can be completed with brute strength.

Sometimes you need to take care of things quietly and without notice.

That's what the United Reef Kingdoms serve as. A reminder that not everyone likes what you offer.

Cherri's TLDR: The United Reef Kingdoms are compromised and off limits to the Skylanders.

Skylanders academy episodes that could of got alternate endings

Skylanders unite!: kaos could of won.

Dream girls: dream catcher could of never had been caught,stealth elf could of went to sleep too early on in the episode,it could of been another cadet,dream catcher could of turned the entire academy against stealth elf.

The hole truth: the doom raider's could of never escaped.

Space invaders: stealth elf could of actually died,it could of been someone else who got stuck in kaos's head.

Pop rocks:wolfgang could of won, glumshanks could of revealed Wolfgang's plan to food fight and trigger happy by either accident or on purpose which would of lead them to tell the core team,pop fizz could of been the evil one instead of wolfgang,pop fizz and wolf gang never parted ways.

Beard science: eon could of never found his beard.

The skylands are falling!: everyone could of died.

Assault on skylander academy:kaos choose his Mom's side and never went with the doom raiders,the doom raiders,kaos and kaossandra never gotten into the academy.

Spyromania: Spyro could of died aka no invincible scales,Spyro could of never questioned his abilities,Spyro could of had super speed aka dodged all of food fight's tomatoes or just any other type of ability for that matter.

Return to cynder: cynder could of got corrupted, the skylanders never offended cynder.

Elementary,my dear eruptor: eruptor could of died(I'm starting to see a pattern here)

Split decision: hex could of took over the academy,skull never got rid of his magical bond with hex,hex forgot to hug a cadet like wind up or food fight possiblely and they did something that changed the ending like telling master eon earlier.

The people vs.pop fizz: pop fizz could of stayed in cloud cracker prison.

Belly of the beast: they all could of died. Food fight could of died by the cadets having to use him to make the fire viper throw up due to the fire viper being a carnivore and food fight being well an ardichoke meaning that they sacrificed him(man I think that's the darkest alternate ending I came up with),food fight and wind up being the only survivers(they was in a place where they were safe once the fire viper woke up and food fight could of made the fire viper throw up by tossing enough tomatoes.king pen never got kidnapped.

Sheep-ball dreams: dream catcher was catched by stealth elf before she hit the ground meaning she never snapped out of her amnesia and lived happily ever after with the skylanders and cadets(I wished that happened even a little bit). Dream catcher was faking the whole thing.

Touch of evil: Spyro never turned into dark Spyro,cynder never went after Spyro,cynder never got captured and made it back to the academy with the core team.

Power struggle: kaossandra ditched the skylanders.

A traiter among us(oh God please no): eruptor never had a grudge against kaossandra and therefore never needed to get captured by trolls.

In like flynn: the skylanders could of been trapped forever.pop fizz could of got sacrificed.(why is acadmey so extreme?)

Road rage: kaossandra could of killed stealth elf. Stealth elf wore the cursed bracelet instead. Stealth elf gave the cursed bracelet to either eruptor,dark Spyro or even possiblely food fight?(though that last person is very unlikely yet here we are and it would change the episode very much.)

Weekend at eon's(can we just put in f in the chat for poor food fight not really even appearing in the episode where he should of at least got a line): FOOD FIGHT ACTUALLY PLAY A PART IN THE STORY-no really im serious that would actually change a whole lot of things,food fight never missed,food fight killed master eon rather by accident or possibly *evil smirk* on purpose.

Three sides to every story: master eon actually did get zapped.

Days of future crash: glumshanks won,dark Spyro encountered the alternate versions of the cadets that may or may not have been driven crazy by that timeline's events.

Off to the races: dark Spyro killed stealth elf,dark Spyro never got caught.

Split: Hugo never came to rescue the skylanders.

Skylanders Review: Bash

We have now passed the threshold of main characters, covering both Spyro and the trios he's been a part of (for a total of five characters) and now we get into the rest of them! Yep, we'll be going through the rest of the Skylanders by the following order: Magic, Water, Tech, Life, Fire, Earth, Air, and Undead.

I am at a crossroads with our next entry from the Earth typing, Bash, our first of many non-Spyro Dragons.

[Image: Bash is a quadrupedal dragon without any wings, making it look a bit like a dinosaur. It has dirt brown, rocky hard skin with a dirty, yellow-colored underbelly. It's claws, teeth, spikes, and horns are the same shade of yellow. Instead of a thagomizer, its tail is tipped with a stone shaped like the head of a Morningstar (spiked ball). It has two rows of spikes running down its back and tail parallel to each other, and it has three spikes running the sides of all four of its legs. It has six horns in total, two on top of its head and more running down both its temples. Its horns are almost positioned like a crown. It has bright red eyes and a red tongue.]

Remember Rock Dragon? Yeah, this is what became of him. Elevated to named character status, you can see from the beta figures below that they played around with body types, he even started out with the nostrils of a hippo. He's a bit hard to talk about since he's been tossed to the wayside, having little to no appearances outside the mainline games. All five previous Skylanders I reviewed had been featured in comics, spin-offs and the show to some compacity and comparing their wiki pages Bash's is rather pitiful.

I guess he's like Finneon, he's sort of just there but by virtue of statistical probability there has to be SOMEONE who has him as a top fave. He's got a good gimmick anyway, able to roll up into a ball and launch himself with extreme speeds. You gotta' love Pinball powers.

He even got a slight redesign later on, giving his tail and organic Morningstar gold plating. This second design accentuates his Dino-qualities even more. They even built a rather flat looking golden crown onto his head, with three Loki-esque golden horns positioned like a Triceratops. So he must have sold some units to get this small amount of attention, right? And that's not even including the baby.

Or maybe he was just a creator's favorite who got by thanks to legacy.

His lore explicitly states that being a flightless dragon is rare, and we arrive to a bit of a Scootaloo situation where Bash wishes he could fly like others. His pinball schtick actually came about from his attempts to get into the sky, and through constant trial and error he toughened up his skin until it was as hard as rock.

He joined the Skylanders, and it's mentioned that he gets touchy when people mention his flightlessness. : (

Motto: "Rock and Roll!" It makes sense but it's still pretty boring. 2/5.

A few of the many genres of characters I've encountered over the years (some overlap included)

Favorite characters

Exactly what it sounds like. Of everyone in this piece of media, this character or group of characters is my blorbo. A couple of my favorite characters are Gohan from Dragon Ball and Kakashi from Naruto.

Comfort characters

As the name suggests, these are the characters that I go to for comfort. A lot of people seem to view their comfort characters romantically, but with exceptions, I tend to view them in a more familial way. A couple of these characters are Chihiro Fujisaki from Danganronpa and Vivi from Final Fantasy 9.

Crushes

It might be an asexuality thing, but I've only really had 4 characters that I would say I've had a real crush on. Said characters, in order of when I was into them, are Machine Ghost from Skylanders, Geno Sans from the Undertale AU Aftertale, Sakura Ogami from Danganronpa, and Xiao from Genshin Impact. That being said, though, I have definitely noticed a couple types...

You're attractive, but...

Characters that I DO think are attractive, but don't consider full-on crushes. Seems to include about 7 of every 10 twinks with baggage and about 9 of every 10 women with muscles.

Squishes

Basically a platonic crush. For some reason or another, I want this character to be my friend. The first example I can think of right now is Itto from Genshin Impact.

Love-hate relationship

I have a lot of thoughts on this character. I don't exactly dislike them, but I'm not always a big fan of them either. Ultimately, I want good things for characters in this category, but I'm also really tired of their BS. Examples include Nagito Komaeda from Danganronpa, Childe from Genshin Impact, and most iterations of Karai.

GO TO THERAPY OH MY GOD

This character has been through a lot of horrible shit, and therefore, I am deeply concerned about their mental and emotional well-being. Oftentimes, this character will show strong signs of PTSD or some other trauma-induced disorder, but the writers usually won't get that deep into it. Examples include Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy 7, Last Ronin Mikey, and honestly, about half the cast of Danganronpa.

Fight me @ Dennys

Characters I would not hesitate to throw hands with in a Dennys parking lot at 3 AM, typically on sight. I always hate these characters, but I also feel like I could take them in hand-to-hand combat. Examples include Tsumugi Shirogane from Danganronpa and Heather Duke from Heathers.

I want to study you

Exact traits may vary, but for some reason, this is always a male character whose morality ranges from kinda ambiguous to straight-up evil that I might or might not actually like, but definitely want to study under a microscope. Sometimes (the Oni from Dead By Daylight), I just find the character interesting; sometimes (Kokichi Oma), their actions played a large role in the plot, and I want to understand the character better because of that. And sometimes (Hiroto from The Last Ronin), it's a case of, "You are a horrible person and I really don't like you, but GOD DAMN IT, that's literally the best villain monolog scene I've ever read."

Childhood friends

I loved the media these characters are from as a young child, so when I go to that same piece of media now, it feels a little bit like hanging out with an old friend. Examples include Spyro the Dragon and most good-aligned TMNT characters, especially the Turtles themselves.

ADOPT ME PLEASE

Usually directed at groups of characters rather than just 1. Basically, I want to be part of whatever family unit these characters are part of. Yes, found families are included with this. Examples include the Dreemurr family from Undertale, the Chain from Linked Universe (more specifically Time, and by proxy Malon), and Aizawa from MHA.

PROTECC DA CHILD

This is a child character that has probably been through some shit (though not always). Regardless, I feel very protective of this character. Examples include, but are not limited to, Eri from MHA, Marlene and Denzel from Final Fantasy 7, and all of the Warriors of Hope except for Monaca.

Give me the adoption papers STAT

I want to adopt this character as my own. Oddly enough, the only human character in this category is Gonta Gokuhara from Danganronpa. The rest are various animals and fantasy creatures.

The "Adopt, Don't Shop" PSA

An escaped lab experiment that I want to befriend. The name of this category is inspired by a post I made a while ago. Examples include Shadow the Hedgehog, Izuru Kamakura, and Mewtwo, among other, debatably less edgy characters.

Sleep paralysis demon

Something about this character deeply unsettles me. Maybe they just look creepy (Sonic.EXE), maybe it's something they did (Junko Enoshima), maybe it's something I associate them with (2012 Shredder). Either way, this character represents bad things in my mind somehow.

Blorbo by association

I really like this character. This character also reminds me very much of another character I like from a different piece of media. That other character is probably dead. I'm pretty sure these things are all connected. Examples include Razor from Genshin Impact and Eri from Pokémon.

HONORABLE MENTION: stray cats

I can't tell if I want this character as a friend or if I feel bonded to them like a stray cat who can't be adopted separately. The only character in general I feel this for is Future Trunks, but it's a specific enough emotion that I felt like it was worth mentioning.

Kettlestein "Kettle" Gray, once the beloved prince of the United Reef Kingdoms, lived in harmony with the vast oceans and vibrant reefs of his kingdom. As the heir to the throne, Kettle was poised to lead his people with a bright future ahead. His joyous spirit and adventurous nature made him a symbol of hope, loved by all who knew him.

But Kaos, the dark sorcerer with a hunger for power, saw Kettle as more than just a prince—he saw him as a tool to fuel his own twisted ambitions. In a bold and cruel move, Kaos kidnapped Kettle and subjected him to horrific experiments. The sorcerer sought to turn Kettle into a mindless puppet, using dark magic to drain the prince of his essence and replace him with a false version—one that would obey only Kaos.

From this dark transformation, Kaos created a mimic of Kettle, calling it "Zap." This mimic was imbued with electric powers, a twisted mirror image of Kettle’s own abilities, but devoid of his true spirit. The mimic was a weapon, an artificial creation that Kaos could command at will, and it now serves as one of his dangerous pawns—continuing to threaten the Skylands.

Though Kaos succeeded in creating this puppet, Kettle was not entirely lost. Weakened but still alive, he managed to escape from Kaos’ grasp. In his flight, he stole an experimental electric harness—one of Kaos’ earliest prototypes—and used it to survive, desperately trying to find his way back to the Skylanders. There, he hoped to warn them of the threat his twisted mimic posed and stop Kaos’ scheme.

While Kettle returned to the Skylands with his cheerful and playful demeanor intact, the scars of his experience lingered. His trauma, buried beneath his joyful exterior, left him wary of trusting others fully. But his mission remained clear: stop Kaos, free his kingdom, and confront the mimic that bore his likeness but none of his soul. And though the false Kettle, Zap, remains a weapon in Kaos’ arsenal, Kettle knows he must face his doppelgänger—not just to save his home, but to reclaim his true identity.

I just want to say if it wasn't already clear, Gold's story is designed as a more mature version of the Skylanders/Spyro the Dragon franchise. We both wanted to make Kaos seem more threatening than the games actually made him, as well as modifying the stories of many of the Skylanders to connect back to him. Giving them a more personal motivation for defending the Skylands.

So, yeah. Kaos is actually somewhat competent in this story

So now we've introduced the haunting idea of the United Reef Kingdoms as a puppet state controlled by Kaos using a fake version of Zap. Its only a little terrifying to think about.

(And if you're wondering, this is the mimic you fight in the first Skylander game while looking for the eternal water source.)

We're sorry Zap fans for giving your boy trauma, but what can you expect from war? Nothing good ever comes from it.

Every year people go missing in National Parks. The numbers are higher than you'd think. Find out which National Park has the most missing persons and why with technology advancing equipement does this number of reported missing people continue to grow? One particular case of murder is still unsolved.

The federal government does not track the exact number of missing persons in National Parks, but experts believe about 1,600 individuals mysteriously vanish each year while visiting National Parks throughout the United States. There is one park that the New York Post recently found in a recent investigation that is the deadliest in the country. According to the reporting, there have been at least 6 people found dead and a staggering 56 missing persons at Grand Canyon National Park. These reported missing persons have occured between February 2018 and June 2023. Once a person goes missing, they are added to a long list of disappearences. Many of the parks visitors are unaware of the mysterious cases of people who have simply, just vanished. One of those cases is a missing 22 year old hiker, Morgan Heimer. Morgan is a white male, 6"0 tall 175 lbs. Blonde hair. Lst seen wearing dark colored Astral personal flotation devoce. A blue plaid long sleeve shirt. He was last seen on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 around Colorado River mile 213 near Pumpkin Springs. The search for Heimer is continuous.

Many missing person cases stem from either a hiker being lost or unexpected inclimate weather. Lightening, snow storms and rising flood waters make situational awareness paramount, The first mistake is failure to plan. It is important to let someone knwo where you are going and exact itinerary. Solo hiking is discouraged but with an advance in digital maps, Garmins and other locational tools, it is hard to undertand why these numbers continue to rise. GPS tools are relied on for many hikers but many GPS systems do not work in many of the National Parks, especially remote ones. Many of the systems also don't reflect current conditions.

On June 1, 1996 two hiker/campers went missing in the Shenandoah National Park. Julianne Williams and Laura Winans were found murdered at their campsite. Williams was 24 and Winans 26. The girls were last seen hking together with a Golden Retriever named Taj on May 24, 1996. The dog was found wandering in the park near the Whiteoak Canyon Trail. The womens bodies were found in their campsite of the Bridle Trail, near Skyland Resort. The case has very little clues as to a motive and who could had committed such a brutal crime. Laura was found inside her tent. Julianne was in her sleeping bag about 40 feet away down an embankment. Their hands were bound, mouths gagged and their throats slit. Both girls were partially undressed nut not sexually assaulted. They have had a few suspects, one even arrested in the case but later overturned due to lack of evidence. It is advised to always travel in groups, carry safety protection and a loud whistle. Always share with someone your plan and check weather reports. Many crimes in National Parks remain unsolved and rely on the publice to hopefully one day bring closure to some of their families.
