August’s Book for the Romtastic Bookclub!

Alrighty peeps, our first book for the club is Beauty And The Billionaire by Jessica Claire. 

THE SHORT DESCRIPTION: Virgin recluse hero smitten w/ playful heroine from afar, workplace employer/employee dynamic.

THE LONG DESCRIPTION: Real-estate tycoon Hunter Buchanan has a dark past that’s left him scarred and living as a recluse on his family’s palatial estate. Hunter is ready to give up on love—until he spots an enigmatic red-haired beauty and comes up with an elaborate scheme to meet her.

Gretchen Petty is in need of a paycheck—and a change. So when a job opportunity in an upstate New York mansion pops up, she accepts. And while she can overlook the oddities of her new job, she can��t ignore her new boss’s delectable body—or his barely leashed temper.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Up to 10 people can video chat at a time in Google Hangouts. Each month I’ll rotate the 9 other video chatters, so everyone will have a chance to video if they want. Everybody else can chat along in the Hangout’s text chat. If you don’t want to video chat that month, or only want to participate via the text chat, that is totally okay. Just let me know.

bluebell : do you drink tea or coffee ? Coffeeeeee… I put so much creamer in it that it’s practically not coffee anymore, but I drink it all the time. I’m currently trying to stop buying it every day because it’s expensive and I really doubt it helps my anxiety. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

calla : what’s your favorite book ? I have a few I’ll give you - Deathless by Catherynne Valente, The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, Arcadia by Iain Pears, and Portrait of a Lady by Henry James (I’ve read a lot of classics)

Dearest of friends and followers

The Blueprint Masquerades have once again created a little gem for the Zurich Film Festival 72 competitions. We had just 72 hours to come up with a story connected to the topic “blue,” film the whole thing, edit it and send it in. And the whole thing was not allowed to be longer than 72 seconds. Right now, we have until Thursday 12pm GMT+1 to get as many votes from the public as possible. (we can win a huge price if we win the public vote...).

Here’s the thing... you need to sign up to the webpage but please don’t let that hold you back. You can just delete the account on Friday 11.59pm GMT+1 when we know aaaall the results!

3 - fantasy or sci-fi

ooh, I definitely like fantasy more than sci-fi! sci-fi is usually pretty hit or miss for me? sometimes the science of it all just kinda overwhelms me, I guess. I'm gonna use this as an opportunity to recommend two sci-fi books I read recently though - False Hearts by Laura Lam and The Forgetting by Sharon Cameron! I really enjoyed them!

7 - Harry Potter or Percy Jackson

okay, so. my usual answer would be Harry Potter, buuuuuuuuut lately I've been leaning more toward Percy Jackson? I LOVE THEM BOTH, OKAY. but it's gotten to the point where I'm like "please, no" every time something new of Harry Potter comes out, which is sad :/

THE ROMTASTIC BOOKCLUB IS A THANG!!!

Alrighty, peeps. This bookclub is TOTES GONNA EXIST!

I’ve had enough people express interest that they’re down for a video/text romance bookclub, so here’s the deets!

1. GROUP BLOG I’ve just created our Romtastic Bookclub group blog and you should be getting an invite to join soon. If I’ve overlooked your name, or you’d like to join, please message me so I can add ya to the fun! This is our landing spot where we can post thoughts, quotes, reactions, etc. while we read the month’s pick. No one is obligated to post, it’s just for us peeps who wanna chat throughout the month before the club meets.)

2. CLUB MEETING: WHEN The Romtastic Bookclub will meet on the first Saturday of the month at 6 pm Central time...? This is negotiable and open to discussion because we all have different schedules. I’d like to pick a time and date that works well for most of us, so PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR FEEDBACK! :)

3. CLUB MEETING: WHERE The Romtastic Bookclub is going to be a Google Hangout. Up to 10 people can video chat at a time and so far we have 33 people who are interested. Each month I’ll rotate the 9 other video chatters, so everyone will have a chance to video if they want. Everybody else can chat along in the Hangout’s text chat. If you don’t want to video chat that month, or only want to participate via the text chat, that is totally ok. Just let me know. 

4. CLUB MEETING: HOW You will need a Google account in order to participate in the Hangout. As a result I will need your Google name or email attached to your account so I can add you to the Hangout conversation. Please message me with this information either on my @diehard-fangirl​ blog or on the group blog. (Also hug yourself every time I said “Google,” “Hangout,” or “blog,” lol.)

5. CLUB MEETING: WHAT Every month I’d like to rotate through different subgenres. For simplicity’s sake, I’ll choose our first Romtastic Bookclub pick. I do want to open this up for voting so everyone in the club can have a voice in what we read. I just gotta figure out the best way to do this. DECISIONS WILL BE MADE SOON!

6. NO PRESSURE! Being a member of the Romtastic Bookclub in NO WAY obligates you to participate every month. If you can’t make it to the Hangout or you’re not interested in that month’s book pick, or life gets too busy, NO WORRIES! This is just supposed to be fun, so no stress!

7. I’M A NEWBIE IDIOT! I have NEVER DONE ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE OH MY GERD!! Hosting a bookclub, doing a Google Hangout- this is all new for me, so I’m nervous am probably gonna screw up. Please be patient with me as I fake my way through our first few months of the club. I suck, but yall don’t, so IMMA GET THROUGH DIS WITH YA!

Is the Hamilton book as awesome as I think it is?

Absolutely! I bought it on Amazon for about 24 dollars.

The book itself is just so elegant and beautiful. The pages have a deckle edged style making it feel like one of those old books from the 1800s. The book talks about how the musical came to be and it has beautiful photos and the lovely annotations Lin made!

So basically, yes it’s as awesome as you think it is and probably more! :D
