The Wizard, the Witch, and the Wild One Ep. 31 SPOILERS
Suvi Sky subtly rebelling against the education of the Citadel?
The fact that Brennan asked about the reflective indicative literally makes me so fucking suspicious. I was already dubious, but now I am almost positive that that move is keeping track of a wizard’s spells.
It’s the ownership. It’s the, “I’m going to do magic my way.” Brennan has talked about wizards as the most humanistic of the classes, but the Citadel asks its wizards to give up a good portion of their autonomy to come together for a greater purpose. Suvi Sky is self-actualizing!!!

I’ve just listened to (podcast) Worlds Beyond Number episodes 17 & 18 (WWW #17: Say My Name and WWW #18: Between the Lines), and now I suddenly have a new WIP on my hands (Suvi x Silver, Sky x Silver).
I started to write it purely because I felt wholly compelled to do so, and I will finish it for that same reason. That said, should anyone be interested in reading it, I wanted to offer to share it. As an aside, it is entirely unedited at this point, so please be gentle if you do read it.
Anyway, I’ll post a sneak preview of the fic here, and then if anyone wants to read the rest of it, you’re welcome to let me know. I hope someone enjoys…
It picks up toward the beginning of WWW #18, but let’s just say that the insight check goes… differently.
Preview:
"When do you-" Suvi cuts herself off. She can see the backpack slung over Silver's shoulder. "Does it have to be now?" She asks quietly.
He nods. "It has to be now."
Suvi dares to meet Silver's eyes and hold his gaze — to hold this moment between them like a breath. She wants to believe his stoicism is merely a disguise. Behind his schooled features must live a hope — the hope that she would succumb to her emotions and ask for something, anything. To finally, if only this once, let him be strong for them and yet give in to a request, if she would only make it known.
Suvi stands between Silver and the door, and he makes no moves to reach it. "Okay," she whispers, scared her voice will betray her weakness. Their eyes remain locked together as Suvi takes a cautious step forward. And then another. "Okay," Silver whispers back.
Suvi feels the surge of tears about to stream down her face, and just before the dam can burst, she rushes Silver. He lets his pack slide off his shoulder as he braces for impact, opening his arms and wrapping them around the woman barreling into him.
Suvi flings her arms around Silver and buries her face into his warm and familiar embrace. Suvi's body convulses with sobs, but Silver says nothing of it. Instead, he rests his chin atop her head and rubs gentle, unhurried circles up and down her back.
This expression of trust, vulnerability, and depth of care is not lost on him, and he values this moment for the precious memory it shall be.

I was literally about to post somthing like this. Sky never gave US any part of her true name. At least not intentionally. However, she was introduced in the Preludes with her full true name. So we do know it, but it's technically without her awareness or consent. Okay now I'm just thinking about the nature of characters in stories
We could really commit to the bit and only refer to her as Sky from here on out.

Thinking about Gale's spellbook.
Not the old one, the one he carried when he was Gale, the Wizard of Waterdeep - a gorgeous, leather-and-silver bound thing that bulged with a lifetime's worth of accumulated knowledge. There were spells in there penned over wine and cheese with Elminster; in a flow state that bordered on the spiritual after a night with Mystra, remembering her instruction, the feel of her soul against his. That spellbook was the testament to his success, the proof that he had excelled beyond the excellent -
And then Mystra cut him off from the Weave, and it all become meaningless.
His own runes, rendered incomprehensible; beautiful spell-glyphs that turned from condensed power and knowledge to worthless pieces of art. He has to start anew, from the ground up - reforging his connection to the Weave without Mystra's guidance (without her, without), relearning schoolboy spells. Humiliatingly easy magic, the kind he used to do like it was breathing, except this time he has to study and work and try and try, Tara urging him on with firm but gentle words.
He learns different spells, now. Mage Armour, Shield, Magic Missile. Not the kind of spells that he'll ever need on a day-to-day basis; spells that'll keep him alive long enough when he makes an exodus to the depths of the Underdark, or the centre of some desert wastes, and goes supernova.
The new spellbook is a plainer thing, small enough to fit in a robe pocket (because extradimensional storage spaces are no longer things he can make with a thought). And then he's snatched by a Nautiloid, and... honestly, he'd swear that the spine just wants to hold onto blood-spatters, no matter how many times he cleans them out. The pages get spotted from all the times he's had to flick them open in driving rain; the corners get creased from being shoved in and out of his robes.
And absolutely nothing can protect it from the unstoppable force of his friends.
Karlach nearly sends the whole thing up in flames one night by gesticulating a bit too wildly. Wyll laughs too hard one night and sprays wine all over Gale's new notes on Abjuration. Scratch picks up the entire thing and runs off with it when Gale's back is foolishly turned, and it's only a stern talking-to from Halsin that saves the whole thing from becoming a chew toy.
Smiley cat faces, doodled on the pages in Yenna's untidy hand. A helpful comment from Karlach on the Fireball page: 'AKA FUCK YEAH LET'S GO!!!!' A few lines of Wyll's perfect handwriting, a memento from a long discussion about how infernal energies could enhance fire magic; a few observations from Shadowheart on warding enchantments. Some terse comments on psionic magic from Lae'zel that Gale finds himself weaving into his Shields, and they do seem to hold up a little better now. (Other hands on his spellbook! Touching the pages he carries close to his heart! The man he was would never have believed it.)
He thinks of them all, as he writes new spells. Counterspell, because nothing will touch them. Spells that will carry his people from danger and shield them from harm. He watches Astarion pace before the fire one night and inscribes Sunbeam with a cold smile of promise to Cazador; he glowers at Mizora over the edge of the pages as he ponders what spells would be best suited to killing a devil.
A wizard's spellbook, Elminster told him once, is a reflection of their soul. Gale of Waterdeep's spellbook was a marvel; perfect and polished and resplendant. Untouched by any hands but his own.
Gale Dekarios's spellbook is battered and beloved, covered on every page with the fingerprints of his friends.

"I am the Wizard Sky." What power then, that that great firmament might rain down. […] Whose weightless weight we bear each day upon our shoulders. […] Wisdom in the watchfulness of a constant partner, ever above, defined by its distance. […] A partner, in a dance, to sustain the world forever. […] The sky holds all things. Let it be known that vastness is yours. Those who have destiny curse it, but what burden, to be able to chose any path under the Sun.
@quiddie please tell her I love her!!!
Making my way through @worldsbeyondpod and it very quickly took its place in the pantheon of my very favorite stories, ever. PS I am still at the beginning of arc 2, please don't put spoilers in the tags when you reblog, thank you!!

How do you like your coffee this #AniMonday ?
Another conceptual pencil test I did for Blue Sky Studios. We were toying with the idea that the wizard class had more of a "tech" style magic that involved tools and mechanical devices. So I thought it might be fun exploring how a wizard would make coffee in the morning. This is one I wish I took further, did a couple in-betweens, but it was just made to get a concept across. I think it did its job.

The Wizard, the Witch, and the Wild One Ep. 30 SPOILERS
Saw a post that made me think about what Tefmet might know about name-cloaks. Brennan goes out of his way to point out that they say "My name is Tefmet." I don't know if that is a name-cloak or what, but I think they are at least familiar enough with the concept to use specific wording. Either they just gave a witch their true name (unlikely), or there is some sort of obfuscation happening, either magical or mundane deception. Ame's initial insight rolls weren't that great.
I don't know how familiar they are with the specific customs of the Citadel they are, but given their physical age and assuming it's mostly accurate with their actual age, they've been alive since after the Citadel was founded. They react nervously to Ame mentioning "S-names," the custom of graduated wizards of the Citadel, so I think they know enough about the descendant organization of the Accordati to be extremely wary and (justifyably) paranoid about anything having to do with them. I was a little surprised that Ame freely volunteered to a Wizard of the Citadel that she met one of their historical enemies. I get that it's Suvi Sky, and she's trying to build trust back, but she really did just blow up Tefmet's spot at the first opportunity. I hope Suvi Sky doesn't do anything that makes Ame regret being so forthright.
Suvi Sky is getting better and thinking for a moment before letting her Citadel training take over, but I wonder if she was prepped in how to deal with members of the Antivali. Or, I think it's also possible that the Citadel does not know any of their old enemies survived. And then, if that's the case, will Suvi Sky spill the beans? It might earn her serious acclaim, but it also feels very bad to tell the Imperial Magical Industrial Complex that the power they see as proprietary is being learned and practiced by even one person not pledged in service to the Empire. More than very bad. It feels dangerous. Deadly.
Tefmet's days might be numbered.
