There was Into The Spiderverse, then Puss in The Boots, Nimona and Arcane too. Do you think we've entered an era of 3D Animation that looks like 2D Animation? Do you think it'll last? What do you think will happen?

I think it will last as long as people are enjoying it. But more importantly, I think all the examples you mentioned above have amazingly good writing and storytelling, which is (in my opinion) why those are so well received. My hope for the future in animation is for people to acknowledge the value in good storytelling and writing, and then finding the medium that best tells that story. And yeah, I definitely hope "3d simulating 2d" films are part of that.

We really wanted a hand drawn feel for the Nimona movie, so one of my first tasks was to hand draw three Ballister light tests. One two tone test, one three tone test, and a third with a dithered effect.

Hey! Love all the animation and peeks at the development process. For Nimona, was there any point in the preproduction process that included Blitzmeyer? She was pretty big in the book and I’m wondering if she was ever a part of the plan for the movie or if she was cut from the beginning?

There actually was a lot of planning for Blitzmeyer! So much in fact, that when they decided to cut her, they repurposed her design and assets for who is currently the QUEEN in the movie! I actually storyboarded a little "character teaser" thing for her.
