“I am supposed to be free and I am not” #Repost @beloveapparel ・・・ #Repost @ctznwell ・・・ Check out our special Juneteenth episode of #CTZN Podcast that featuring @skillinaction! This powerful conversation isn’t just about Juneteenth and the history of racism in America, it's not just about how white supremacy is at work on our bodies and minds, it's not just about reparations and strategies for liberation, it's about relationship and humanity and how to this work across lines of difference. Michelle says that we don’t need more people dying, more statistics, more harm being done to black and brown people to know that white supremacy is happening; to wake up and acknowledge that something is terribly wrong. We just need to do something about it. Before it is too late. Before more people have to die. She invites us to “remember to remember” - who we are beyond whiteness, beyond fear, beyond separation, so that we can find our way back to ourselves and to one another. This podcast is the medicine of truth and the hope for liberation. Michelle Cassandra Johnson @skillinaction is our latest guest on #theflowartistspodcast Skill in Action is an incredible book using the lens of yogic philosophy to examine power & privilege, liberation & oppression, and our own uniqueness and interconnection. It incorporates philosophy, poetry and personal practice as a path towards dismantling racism. Michelle shares her inspiration and writing process, as well as insights from her Dismantling Racism workshops. I had many questions about applying some of these concepts as a #yogateacher and I really appreciated Michelle’s point of view. It’s a great conversation and you can listen at podcast.flowartist.com (link in bio) or look for us on Spotify or Apple Podcasts. . . . . . #yogapodcast #yogateacher #yogateacherlife #dismantlingracism #skillinaction #yogasutras #yogalife #yogalove #representationmatters #accessibleyoga #everybodyyoga #thisisyoga #selfcare #svadyaya #socialjustice (at The Flow Artists Podcast) https://www.instagram.com/p/B7hwgbbAgUi/?igshid=wc0dju9gsdqn

#TheFlowArtistsPodcast has been an amazing opportunity for me to learn from some incredible thinkers, authors and teachers. I’ve especially learned from People of Color as it’s given me the space to ask questions and hopefully to grow as a yoga teacher and a human being. I’ve seen a lot of people post that they are consciously taking time to listen right now so I wanted to share these episodes that I have personally drawn so much inspiration from. @ranelovesyoga compiled a list to make these episodes easier to find - head to my bio or stories for the link. Sending out gratitude to: @ria.tirazona @drgailparker Michelle Cassandra Johnson @skillinaction @ellanoahbancroft_ @yogawalla & @tejalyoga of @yogaisdeadpodcast @terukinakano & @yokonakano_md_ryt of @medcareyoga Shyamala Benakovic @shyam031 @manojdias_ @donnanobleyoga William Wong @willy_wongka_ Jo Tito @wonderingearth Coco Nkrumah of @reality_based_mindfulness @meilaiswanyoga of @yogaforhumankind Jamie Marloo Thomas of @wayapawuurrk @jasetepatu of @m3mindfulnessforchildren Thanking you all so much for the wonderful work you do in the world and taking the time to talk with us. I’ve seen many of the people on this list share that they have recently received an overwhelming amount of DMs and emails - I invite you to seek out the work that they have already written and shared online or better still buy their books and courses rather than contacting them directly. Our goal for future podcast episodes is to speak to more Indigenous Australian Yoga Teachers. . . . . . . #yogapodcast #yogateacher #yogateachersofcolor #blacklivesmatter #aboriginallivesmatter #indigenouslivesmatter #antiracism #antioppression #solidarity #thisisyoga #decolinizingyoga #meditation #maoriyoga (at The Flow Artists Podcast) https://www.instagram.com/p/CBHtXgAjAAT/?igshid=1nrmz2y3m6pps

We hear from experts like @amywheeleryoga , @meilaiswanyoga , Matthew Remski, Tim Seutter @yogafire.nz , Anu of Queer and Trans Yoga, Michelle Cassandra Johnson @skillinaction , Jesal Parikh @yogawalla , an excerpt from @drgailparker ‘s upcoming book, @leigh.blashki and Dominque Salerno of @australianyogaacademy . I feel like a MCU superhero in these clothes. I must admit my feelings have evolved and changed over the past few years. I want to continue to evolve my perspective. Growth continues On my wellness journey I needed to take some time for full reflection about how I wanted to take care of my body. Recently I joined my local gym. I wanted to expand my fitness. In the late 80s all through the 90s- and early 2000’s I was a fitness instructor. The culture was extremely toxic them. I really got caught up in it to the point of making myself sick. Once I made my journey into self-care and self-love I had to let go of that part of my life. Having my babies and returning to yoga full time was a big part of making peace with my body. Acquiring Graves’ disease gave me a moment to pause and reevaluate my relationship with my body and that meant I had to make some lifestyle changes if I wanted to heal. A lot of you have been with me on this journey. I appreciate your support. I’ve learned a few things along the way. I can return to my fitness routes without it being detrimental to my well-being. Being social, focussing on creating better balance and wellness, and sharing the yoga practice has been instrumental in my healing. It has allowed me to look at the world through an entirely new lens. I am more focussed than ever an equity, equality, and yoga for everyone. I’m also really looking at relationships I’ve had in the past that deserve a second look. I return to my fitness roots with a new outlook. I’m at the gym because it makes me feel good and I like the energy in the space. I’m not there to change the aesthetic of my body other than to become stronger in my body and therefore stronger in my resolve. Another relationship that is evolving is by relationship with @lululemon. I have seen a shift in this organization. They have been supporting people I deeply respect and work that is very important to me. Organizations like @amplifyandactivate @skillinaction @accessibleyoga and #heretobe partnerships. I’ve been invited at the local level to be a part of their sweat collective advisory board. This is a seat the table. I am pulling up a chair. https://www.instagram.com/p/B7lg7cOAtCh/?igshid=15e77q6xji491

My son came home the other day talking about his experience of being one of the only black kids in his school. I felt like have I prepared him for the world? He had watched a film in school that dealt with racism and all the kids in class kept looking at him. I remember that when we read the book To Kill a Mockingbird over 30 + years ago in highschool. The sheer uncomfortableness of it in really white spaces. I have been inspired by the events of the past few months to ramp up offerings on teaching culture competency. I see that the universe as put this in my path along with my colleagues @laylafsaad @skillinaction Michelle Johnston @amplifyandactivateclt Jasmine Hinds @jivanaheyman of accessible yoga to create more cultural awareness. It is painfully aware to POC that race, white tears, hurt feelings are weapons of white fragility and are important for keeping black folks and marginalized communities in their place and silenced. This book was truly a godsend in my journey of navigating my place in the world.
