Now, Etie hadn't exactly absorbed the full breadth of the rules before running off with her arrows, each head tied with a small pouch of blue paint. All she had gathered was that the monastery was swept up in a new game, where people attempted to cover as much of the campus as they could with their House's color.

An odd activity for a church to take part in—she could never imagine anything like this happening at one of Firene's cathedrals—but when in Fodlan...

(Had the officials even sanctioned this? She didn't ask. But so many people were taking part that they had to know about it, right?)

Deciding to cast her musings aside for the time being, the archer takes up her bow and ducks behind a nearby pillar, watching as a fiery haired girl splatters a nearby wall with yellow paint. Bleh.

Leveling her bow with practiced aim, Etie fires an arrow at the same spot, covering the yellow with a beautiful swath of royal blue instead. It's only after this that she realizes the other redhead was in fact Panette, and the revelation brings a smile to her lips.

"For Firen—er, the Lions!" Etie cries, jumping out from her hiding place.

There are plenty of reasons to come to a party like this. Free food, for one. To find those with the loosest lips and hear the local gossip, for another. And of course...

There are so many people here with expensive, valuable items on their person.

Now, Naesala is not about to shy away from a challenge of dexterity, especially one of such low stakes. When he sees that absolutely stunning and beautiful woman alone under the mistletoe, he knows that this is the opening he has been looking for.

Direct, to the point. He comes up to her and smiles. It's not a charming smile; the thing is wry, half baked, and a little mischievous. He looks up at the mistletoe above them and laughs.

"Well, I am a man of tradition. Who am I to say no?"

He leans in, kisses her forehead between her brows -- not so forward to kiss her lips, but wanting to make her feel flustered. It's oddly tender, and he hopes it will have the desired effect. He reaches down, and with feather-light fingers and incredible skill he slips the ring from her finger.

Oh, this will get him a pretty penny, won't it?

He pulls back, smiles at her, and bows a little. His hand slips into his jacket pocket to he does to hide the ring as he smiles. "Naesala of Kilvas, what an honor it is to make your acquaintance."

When he approaches her, he is confident in a vainglorious way. Rinea has no time to reject as she is caught by the sight of gigantic wings of ebony. She sees no fire nor ice around him to denote him fallen and even further from anything deemed holy. A bird then, swooping in for its prey.

She shuts her eyes when he moves closer, not quite rejecting the gesture, but to say she did not flinch slightly when he begins to approach her and not a less offensive part, like her hand, would be a lie.

She expects it to scratch her, in the same way that birds’ talons do when they find you as a perch. They leave red scrapes in the beginning and the points dig into skin, but once they leave, there is no true harm. The kiss to her head is like that, yet where she expects it to leave a mark, she finds none. It is gentler than she gives him credit for and if her heart were not trapped beneath a cage of sorrow and longing for someone else, she might have rewarded his action with a soft flush. 

Her eyes flutter open when he speaks again, that lopsided smile beaming back at her. 

“Rinea… of Rigel,” she lets him have that much. 

“Are all residents from Kilvas this forward,” she levels his own mischievous smile with her own small tilt of her lips, raising a brow slightly, “Or could that be just you?”

…

It is much later that she notices her finger much lighter, when she is packing up what is left of her tin that she brought. The lid clatters to the floor. 

Quickly she begins her search, but never does she suspect anyone but herself to blame for its loss and what’s left of her heart with it.

got the draw weight of the painted bow from my dad (55lb!! good lord too rich for my blood) and he was immediately like oh i think your brother has an old compound somewhere . and i was like no i don't want to shoot compound. he's like but it's easier to draw. not the Pointtttttt nobody gets it i dont care how long it takes me to work up to even 40lbs i care about looking cool with an implement

I still think nen was the most well thought out magic systems I’ve ever read about. Like literally anything was possible but there were also still rules and shit you hadn’t heard about. Hxh is amazing for a lot of reasons but you’ve gotta admit the world building is actually pretty incredible when you get into it.

Hand runs over limestone and rock formation, uniquely shaped by time. Etie examines the cave walls, making note of where the ledges started and ended—which would be best for climbing, and what might give way with a bit of pressure. She didn't know nearly as much about water and the sea as Boucheron and Chloé, but Etie was confident she could at least spot a health hazard staring her in the face.

"If the tide rises, we could probably climb up on those ledges..." She remarks to Lapis, the Brodian not too far behind her. "I think we've got a few more hours until that happens, though. We need to be careful of any slippery ones, too."

The sandals she initially wore with her swimsuit are now traded for boots to tread the seawater with, Etie wading through the low tide as she approaches the dark maw that lie at the back of the cave's entrance.

Big. Daunting. Inviting them in...

"Ready for this, Lapis?" She grins over her shoulder, eyes dancing with excitement. "With the two of us working together, we'll conquer this cave in no time!"

After all, she was with one of Brodia's strongest knights! What could go wrong?

I feel it’s important to mention that in my current DnD campaign we in our first session had to fight an undead grizzly bear, who our wizard casted control undead (I think that’s the name of the spell idk) on, we then decided to simply adopt the bear and we named him Todd, as one does right, so now we just cast that spell every three days and he hangs out with us

I also feel it’s important that he has a magic top hat, we did not know it was magic upon purchase, but it’s magic, not really sure in what way we just know it has magical properties

at one point a thief snuck into the cart thingy where Todd was waiting while we went to do something (can’t remember what) and he attempted to hurt Todd and steal his hat and Todd literally just killed him lmao

so yeah the best part of our dnd party is our dapper little zombie bear murderer named Todd and he’s my absolute favourite thing to ever exist
