Bro there was a fan fiction on Fanfiction.net that I LOVED that never got continued with Katniss as a competitive solo figure skater and Peeta was either a hockey player or he was an ice skater, too. And they had to partner— it never got finished and I want to cry every time I think about it.

(they're like 12 in my mind)

Despite both growing up in America, Lian calls it "soccer" while Mar'i insists it's "football"

Mar'i's pet peeve is Lian leaving the strings on the oranges, meanwhile Lian can't fathom why Mar'i doesn't peel her apples

They made money for their school's fundraiser by selling Gatorade outside a stadium on game day

Mar'i has a stronger throw but Lian has the better aim

They hid in Billy Batson's house for a week, accidentally sparking the biggest missing persons story since Jimmy Hoffa, all because they cut each other's bangs with safety scissors after being told not to and couldn't face their parents

They're banned from baking until they're at least 13 because Lian put 1/4 cup of baking soda into the cake batter instead of 1/4 teaspoon

Mar'i built a fort out of Charmin extra-strong rolls believing it'd be enough to keep her mother out and hide the bearded dragon she and Lian bought with their allowance

The trainer Peeta illustration is amazing 😭 thank you so much Lynx. Ahhh this book moment should be in the movie ❤ this is to show Katniss and Peeta relationship that is not for the camera. And Yes to that Gale's quote. “It’d be better if he were easier to hate.” Gale and Peeta is civil toward each other is canon. Wish people pick up this line when they read the book.

Oh, I don’t even think about movies honestly. It’s like separate universe for me, so I like it with all the flaws. Training took only 1 page in the book, I would be SUPER surprised if they included it lol. But I really like that part too. Also because I’m obsessed with wrestler!peeta haha. His painter and baker selves are pretty popular but my favorite are these sport related haha. When all my classmates were obsessed with some actors and singers I was head over heels with biathlete, figure skater or gymnast lol (ok, I still am). Ugh, I want to draw more of wrestler!peeta lol.

Gale and Peeta in the books are so respectful to each other. Honestly I don’t understand why people can’t be respectful too. That’s why I abandoned Twitter. Gale hate is just unbearable.

BIOGRAPHY : 

sloane o’malley is the middle child of the once unified o’malley family, crammed somewhere between the first accident and the third. her father patrick worked, at the time, as a full time construction worker and occasional carpenter (when duty called) and her mother aoife worked at the local supermarket. they lived in lilac ridge out of necessity, but the o’malley children had a pretty happy childhood (probably due to the fact that their parents and sean always forced them out of the trailer so as to not overhear all the fighting).

sloane was always one to follow her older brother, sean, everywhere. despite sean being four years her senior and her little sister fia being only one year her junior, she always felt like she and sean had the most in common. this was probably due to the fact that she modeled her entire personality after his own, and not, like sloane told herself, because they were natural twin flames. 

she was a a tomboy growing up, for obvious reasons. sean skated at the skatepark, so sloane skated at the skatepark. sean went to the arcade after school so sloane went to the arcade after school. sean made sloane eat bugs for fun so sloane made fia eat bugs for fun. it annoyed sean at first, when he was too young to understand the importance of looking after his little sisters. when the need hadn’t quite presented itself. 

patrick and aoife got a divorce when sloane was nine. thanks to the careful watchings-outs of sean, she had never really understood the extent her parents had argued before the split  -  had never picked up on her father’s drinking habit, how late he stayed at the bar after work to avoid coming home, how her mother had picked up double shifts at the supermarket to make up for how often patrick overslept his own shifts  -  so it came as a bit of a shock. 

as if to add insult to injury, patrick moved out of lilac ridge and into delphinus heights after the divorce. he was an adult man with three children and an ex wife living with a roommate, but sloane couldn’t shake the feeling that it was a slap in the face. that he was moving up in the world without her. 

sean and fia didn’t feel so divided in the divorce. they attended lasagna nights at patrick’s every wednesday. sean was known to make sure his father was out of bed every morning for work, despite not even living with him. fia took to cleaning up all of the cans and day old frozen pizzas he scattered about so that his roommate didn’t kick him out. sloane sat at lilac ridge and sulked, overlooking her mother’s faults and driving a wedge between the family. she would get blamed for this more than once.

fia was always the baby of the family, despite how close in age the sisters were. sean felt he needed to look after both sloane and fia, however, bearing all the weight of inattentive parents on his sagging shoulders, and sloane resented him for it. she still wanted to be his best friend, his equal, everything he was and more. she wanted to help look after fia, who was too kind for the world she was given, not hard around like edges like sloane. sloane was sure she could take care of herself.

and, for the most part, she did. a girl who grew up too fast. she bagged groceries at the supermarket with her mother in middle school, worked the cash register at the gas station in high school, shot fire at anyone who bad mouthed her family, partied with her brother’s friends when he wasn’t looking, got really really good at skateboarding when he was. dated a slew of people whose names she sometimes forgot, sometimes a few at a time, would be informed she had mega daddy issues more than a couple of times. 

sean didn’t go to college. he works as a mechanic. sloane didn’t go to college either. a partial mix of not caring to get any sort of formal education after it stopped being required of her and hoping that there would be enough money to send fia off if she was the only one. sloane did, however, stop working odd jobs to keep her family afloat. a lack of motivation hit her like a ton of bricks around her senior year of high school. she hasn’t been able to find it again, but she also hasn’t found it in herself to care much. 

this is all over the place. i know a lot of details of her life but having trouble jotting them down so ?? pls tell me if this doesn’t make sense. 

PERSONALITY : 

headstrong. stubborn. loyal to a fault. selectively uncaring. unmotivated. tough as nails. thrill seeking. rebellious. imposter syndrome. snarky. witty. prideful. selectively passionate. strangely laid back for someone who will just as easily jump the gun. attention seeking. affection starved and disgusted. complex and confusing and headache inducing and trying her best. complains about things before she’s even tried them. bit as a child probably isn’t above it now. sometimes kind of pitiful sometimes terrifying.

“How dare you compare me to you?” You gasped in mock offense before throwing a fry at the offender. It was currently 4am and you were sitting in Tony’s lab, with said lab owner, and eating French fries.

“Look I’m just saying even I’m not this bad.” He said catching the fry in his mouth. “I mean.” He continued while chewing. “I still sleep sometimes, and you’ve gone how long without sleep?”

“Only two days.” You shrugged before hearing a scoff.

“I call bullshit Maximoff.” Clint said dropping down from the air vents, landing just behind tony. Tony jumped and glared at the man who was already giving you a ‘dad’ look. “I know for a fact this is about your fourth day straight with no sleep.”

“Yeah and how do you know that Barton?” You mocked. “How long’s it been since you’ve slept?”

“Irrelevant.” He said waving you off. He took a seat next to you and stole a handful of fries. “The difference between us and you are we’re seasoned pros at the insomniac game and know when to throw a nap in. You aren’t and are going to crash soon and that shit’s gonna hurt.”

“Language.” Tony cut in, Clint flipped said man the bird. “But Katniss is right, witchy. We do know what we’re doing, and I swear if you don’t sleep soon I will tell those two assassins you love.”

“You breathe a word to either of them and I will tell Pepper and Laura about that bet you two have going on.” You smirked as the two began to complain.

“Low blow Y/N.” Clint muttered, with a pout.

“And dobbing on me to Nat and Buck isn’t?” You questioned with a smirk.

“We’re not doing it to be rude. We just want to help.” Clint said wrapping his arm around the back of your chair.

“I’m doing fine honestly.” You said throwing your hands in the air. “I’m getting more training in, I’m catching up on everything I’ve missed over the years, I’m learning like 4 languages and on top of that I’m making sure everyone is sleeping okay.” You listed while waving your hands slightly.

In truth you weren’t doing too well. Ever since the whole HYDRA incident you’d been struggling. Sleep was the furthest thing from your mind and any time you even thought about closing your eyes flashes of the nightmares that plagued your head would flash into the forefront of your mind.

To anyone but Clint and Tony, you were doing great. You were smiling, laughing, eating well and interacting with everyone like you did before the plan. But you felt like you were suffocating, nothing felt right but you didn’t want anyone to worry. Especially Wanda, Bucky or Nat, they’d been fantastic and helped you a lot throughout the past few weeks, but you didn’t want to disappoint them.

“Yeah and that’s great but you still need sleep Y/N.” Tony said cutting through your thoughts. “If you don’t your gonna pass out or worse.”

“I’m fine you two.” You said with a tight smile as you stood. “If your worrying about anyone’s health it should be your own. Now if you’ll excuse me I need a coffee.” You continued bowing slightly before leaving the lab.

Quietly opening the door to the apartment, you shared with your two lovers, you silently made your way to the kitchen. You poured the cold coffee into your mug and took a seat at the breakfast bar. You rested your head on the cold marble and let out a long sigh.

All you wanted was one night. One night where you could sleep in your bed, with your boyfriend and your girlfriend and not be scared. That’s all you wanted.

“Hey doll.” You heard as Bucky’s arms wrapped around your waist. The cold of his metal arm caused you to jump before you leaned back into his chest, still tense.

“You scared the shit out of me, Barnes.”

“You started it when you came in, doll. Where were you?” Bucky asked rubbing circles on your waist.

“Wasn’t tired. Went for a walk.” You lied, and Bucky hummed seemingly buying it.

“Well if you’re not tired, there’s a red head waiting for us in that room right behind us. Think we’d be able to help with your problem?” Bucky said kissing down your neck. You let out a breath and relaxed into his arms.

“I think that’d be nice. Better not leave Nat waiting too long though.” You laughed when Bucky grabbed you bridal style and walked with you to your bedroom.

Tomorrow. You’ll sleep tomorrow. You’ll be fine for now, you decided.

A week later. (Nonreader POV, still third)

“Why did you two want to meet us again?” Nat asked as she walked into the lab with Bucky in tow. Barton had messaged her asking to bring Bucky and meet in Tony’s lab, when the two arrived they were met by Tony, Clint and Wanda, seemingly waiting for them.

“Look we have to talk to the three of you because you’re the only people she’ll listen too.” Clint started crossing his arms.

“Barton are you sure you wanna do this man?” Tony cut in. “I love her, and I really want to help her but you’re gonna be in so much trouble with Laura after this man.”

“Yes Tony.” Clint snapped. “You said so yourself this isn’t healthy, and she won’t listen to us.”

“Can someone tell us what this is about?” Bucky interjected, slowly losing patience with the conversation. “Nat and I have a date to prepare for.”

“And I have training with Steve soon.” Wanda added, from her spot next to Nat.

“Look it’s about Y/N.” Clint sighed, and the three other occupants immediately donned concerned expressions and began paying more attention.

“Is she okay?” Wanda asked concerned.

“No, she’s not.” Tony stated. “I’m just gonna say it, her heads fucked.”

“Tony.” Clint snapped.

“What she said it herself, maybe not those words but I’m pretty close.” Tony replied raising his

“Ok choose your words carefully here but explain.” Bucky trying not to jump at Stark in his lover’s defense.

“She hasn’t slept more than an hour for weeks. At this point she’s beaten both Clint and I’s record for staying awake and she’s getting worse.” Tony continued.

“We would’ve noticed if that were the case.” Bucky said somewhat unsurely.

“Not likely.” Clint cut in. “Your girl is smart about it, she always comes in just before you wake up and always has an excuse ready. Nat, you have to have noticed that she’s not acting like herself.”

“I didn’t think she was lying to us.” She said without looking at her oldest friend. Natasha felt slightly angry at their third, but more so at herself. How hadn’t she noticed?

“Nat don’t be mad at her or yourself.” Clint said taking her hand. “She didn’t want to worry any of you but it’s starting to get to her. She’s going to make herself sick.”

“Why won’t she sleep? Has she mentioned why?” Wanda asked concerned for her sister.

“She hasn’t but we have a plan to find out why.” Tony said, his face becoming nervous not knowing how the three would react.

“How? Come on Stark don’t hold out on us now.” Bucky said wanting to help his girlfriend.

“Ok here’s the plan.”

Readers POV

You were standing in front of the bathroom mirror, liberally applying concealer to your under eyes. Bucky was taking you and Nat out for dinner and you were trying to look nice. Wearing a long sleeve, black skater dress with mesh paneling throughout and your hair lightly curled you looked decent enough, the only thing ruining the illusion was the dark bags under your eyes.

“You don’t need so much of that stuff beautiful.” Natasha said wrapping her arms around your waist.

“Not all of us are as naturally beautiful as you Nat.” You replied taping her hand.

“Come on lover.” Natasha said taking the concealer from you and tugging you into the bedroom. Bucky sat on the edge of your bed with his head in his hands.

“Buck what’s wrong?” You asked flitting over to him, taking a seat next to him and taking his hands from his face. He looked somber and distressed.

“We have to talk doll.” He stated, and Nat nodded taking a seat on your other side.

“What’s going on? Is someone hurt?” You asked your mind immediately going to the worse situation.

“Someone’s hurting themselves, yes.” Nat said with an unreadable face. “Someone’s hurting themselves and we want to help them.”

“Well who?” You pressed. “I can help you help them if you need.”

“Well we kind of do need your help here doll.” Bucky said gripping your hand tighter. “Do you promise to help us help them.”

“Of course, anything.” You agreed. “Who is it, Buck?”

“It’s you doll.” He answered. You stiffened and felt Natasha grip your other hand.

“What do you mean me?” You whispered, attempting to stand but the two held you tightly.

“We’re sorry Y/N.” Natasha said with a guilty expression. The door to your bedroom was pushed open and Wanda walked in, looking as guilty as the two beside you.

“What? What does that mean?” You asked quickly. “Wanda what are you doing?”

“Truly sorry, sister. Forgive us.” She said before using her ‘magic’ on you and the world drifted out of focus.

“Look what you did.”

The room was dark. A dim light bulb swing back and forth, causing shadows to move around the room.

The room was small. You could lay in the middle of it and touch both opposite walls easily.

The room was bare. A door on one wall, a little mattress on another, a door leading to a smaller bathroom and a cracked mirror that forced you to stare at the monster you’d become.

“I didn’t do it.” You whispered, looking into the chipped mirror. The monster looked back at you with unfeeling eyes, hair wild and falling across its face and pale skin that made the monster look dead.

“But you did. You caused this.” The image in the mirror flickered and flashed, briefly showing the dead bodies of those you loved.

Tony and Steve were sprawled across scenes of wreckage, eyes glassy but both filled with determination.

Bruce was slumped across the debris of Stark tower, his skin half green and an expression of anger frozen onto his still face.

Thor was holding the body of his brother in his arms. All around was the bodies of fallen friends and civilians.

Clint was outnumbered the soldiers kept coming, he called out for back-up, but no-one was listening, and he soon disappeared under the bodies of other soldiers.

The still image of Pietro’s corpse flickered next. Even after all these years the image of his unmoving corpse and still eyes haunted you.

Wanda’s image was terrifying. She was throwing her red energy everywhere before a bullet hit her in between the eyes and fell as still as Pietro had.

The last image shook you to your core. Natasha was fighting back to back with Bucky. The two seemed to have no chance but they kept fighting until someone took out Natasha and Bucky was dragged off by HYDRA guards kicking and screaming.

“Do you see what you’ve caused sister?” Pietro asked coming up behind you. He looked the same as the day he passed. Hair a windblown mess, light blue suit and bullet holes riddling his body. “Do you see the problems you’ve caused?”

“I didn’t do anything, I swear.” You couldn’t bare to urn around, so you stayed facing him in the mirror. “Piet, I didn’t do this.”

“But you did. You are the reason we’re like this. If you had stopped them from taking us we would be normal. I would still be alive.”

“But I didn’t want any of this. I didn’t want you to die. I never asked for any of this.” You pleaded with him, just wanting him to listen to you.

“You can fix this still. You can fix it all.” He said hands going behind his back.

“Pietro I would do anything to fix this and to save you, but I can’t. I can’t bring you back.” You said starting to cry.

“Shh sister.” He soothed one hand moving forward to wipe the tears from your face. “I’m not asking you to bring me back. I’m asking for you to avenge me.” He continued pulling the collar out from behind his back.

You couldn’t move as he clipped it onto your neck. The collar felt heavy and like a great burden had been forced upon you, but you couldn’t move, couldn’t react. “Now sister, avenge me.” He said as the team came up behind you.

Within minutes you stood alone, you stood alive above the bodies of your team. Your family. Your loves. You fell to your knees with a scream as you realized what you did.

“Sister.” Your head snapped to the body of Wanda. She stood up slowly and reached a hand out to you. “None of this is real.” She cooed pulling you into her arms. “This isn’t real. This isn’t you.”

“But what if it is?” You cried into her neck. Her hands soothed over your hair and pulled you tighter into her arms.

“It isn’t you would never hurt those you love. You are too kind, too good to be this. Trust me.” She whispered into your ear. “Are you ready to wake up now?”

You shook your head quickly. “I don’t want to face them.” You whispered. “I don’t want to see their disappointment.”

“They’re not disappointed сестре.” She assured. “They’re scared that they’re not going to be able to help you. They love you.”

“Okay.” You said straightening out. You wiped your eyes and took in a deep breath. “I’m ready.”

You woke with a gasp. Your hands flew up to your neck and fell limply when you realized the collar wasn’t there.

“Shh дорога́я.” Natasha soothed, your head snapped to the red head and you wrapped your arms around her neck tightly. She returned the action and wrapped her arms tightly around your waist. “It’s alright, your alright. We’re here.”

“Buck. Where’s Buck?” You asked and felt a warm body wrap around you from behind.

“Right here doll.” He said his arms enveloping both you and Natasha.

“What about Wanda?” You asked attempting to lift your head from Natasha’s neck.

“It’s okay. Everyone’s okay. Wanda left just after you woke up. She’s fine.” Natasha soothed you. The three of you stayed in that position for a few minutes. The only sounds were their soothing whispers and your still calming breaths.

“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you.” You said quietly, breaking the silence. “Please don’t be mad.”

“We’re not mad babydoll.” Bucky told you. “We were just scared.”

“We don’t want to lose you. We want you to come to us when your scared. We want to help you.” Natasha added.

“I don’t want to make you worry. I don’t want to be weak.” You whispered.

“You are not weak Y/N. You are the strongest person we have ever met.” Bucky told you.

“You are the reason we’re not broken. You’re the reason this team is still together and we love you.” Natasha said with a smile. You smiled back at her and kissed her soft lips. After a few minutes of gentle kisses, you turned to Bucky and repeated the same actions.

“I love you two.”

“We love you too.” They replied and pulled you down into a lying position. For the first time in weeks you were surrounded by the warmth of those you love, and fell asleep next to them.

For the first time in weeks you slept peacefully. For the first time in weeks you felt safe. But then again, with Natasha Romanoff and Bucky Barnes next to you, how could you ever feel unsafe?

Continuing our discussion/obsession with Everlark in the Winter Olympics @katnissdoesnotfollowback challenged us the write our ideas. It’s all your fault. I misguidedly thought I could do something Olympic justice but this turned into, well you’ll see. Look for 'More than Gold' on Ao3. Unbeta’d. G rate. So far.

All eyes are on the Ice dancing pair Gale Hawthorne and Katniss Everdeen as they enter the 2018 winter Olympic games with a record breaking score and third world title, a painful Silver metal earned my a small margin 4 years. A certain Olympic Golden boy and former Speed skating legond has been asked to commentate for the games and he has his eyes on Katniss.

PART 1 of 3

Primrose Everdeen hands Posey Hawthorne the bowl of popcorn as they settled in to the couch and get comfortable in front of the TV to watch Prim’s sister and Posey’s brother as they are interviewed on a world wide broadcast before the opening ceremony of the 2018 Olympic Games. Gale Hawthorne and Katniss Everdeen are entering the winter Olympic games with a record breaking score and third world-championship title, determined to give their best and bring a Gold medal to their home country of Panem in this year’s Winter Olympic Games before they retire indefinitely.

“Did you see all the relationship questions in every interview this week?” Posey asks with an amused expression on her face.

Prim bites back a laugh, think of how awkward that could have been.

There’s not question about how close Gale and Katniss are. After skating together for 20 years their bond is strong. Their friendship, partnership, and dependence on each other by many standards they are in a relationship. They are also so succinct, they read each other and understand one another. They have to in order to excel on the ice as a team. They know what the other is thinking, on the ice.

Before the broadcast starts Prim pulls up some of the newest buzz and articles about Gale and Katniss’s relationship.

Prim is positive they’re going to blow away the judges this year with their performance. Unlike 4 years ago, they will get the gold they deserve, they have been undefeated in every championship title for the last year. Gale and Katniss’s technical skills are flawless. The tensions, awareness, and harmony they have on the ice translates as beautifully romantic.

If you don’t know them.

This why it’s too hard not to watch the drama unfold as an inside observer.

Posy and Prim laugh at each article as the writers speculate at length and read into every look, every sigh and every perceived romantic moment.

It’s even funnier that they don’t realize the trainwreck their unravelling. Gale cleverly keeps them guessing with his comments.

But what they aren’t catching is that he’s been trying to tell Katniss that he wants more. He hopes she’s finally ready.

Gale hints “We have a great working relationship. We love working together. We have to find out which way we want to do that after we retire.”

In true Katniss form, she gives him nothing to go on.

No reciprocation.

No hints of pining.

The interviews continue on the television:

“How long have you two been skating together?”

Gale wraps an arm around Katniss and answers proudly “20 years.”

“I mean, how nice to have lived this Olympic journey with your best friend?” Katniss adds.

“Did you always imagine yourself being a decorated ice dancer?”

“Well, skating has been in my family for years, I think I knew I would be on skates, so yeah, figure skating or hockey.” Gale flashes a look or memory in his intense gray eyes.

“Absolutely not!! Gale and I tried every sport when we were kids. Actually I think in elementary school I wrote about being a Gold Medal speed skater like Rye Mellark as my first aspiration.” Katniss smiles and her voice softens as she says ‘Mellark.’

Gale’s posture stiffens.

“3 time Gold Medalist Peeta Mellark’s older brother was iconic when he won Panem a Gold in the late 90s.” The host explains.

Katniss started out with dreams as a speed skater, she was recruited by Gale’s aunt to figure skate because she raced with such passion. Gale and Katniss were paired up almost immediately.

“We’ve been best friends for 20 years…” Katniss explains.

But Gale has already been losing Katniss to Peeta Mellark for years. His kindness found a way of infiltrating the armor around her heart and wedged his way in.

At the world’s competition in 2013, the year before they headed to Sochi Katniss has a nervous breakdown and Peeta Mellark happened to be there to soothe and comfort her. Gale never understood this side of her. She was going to give it all up, the pressure was too great and Peeta gave her hope.

Katniss and Gale surpassed their own world record, but lost their world title by a jaw clenching 4 points to their fellow competitors and ‘frenemies’ Johanna Mason and Finnick Odair who competed for the nation of Unita Coasta.

Within the week Peeta had won his eighth consecutive world speed skating title for Panem.

Prim is the only one who knows and understands Katniss’s connection to Panem’s Golden Boy and 8 time olympic speed skating medalist. He’s been her inspiration from the beginning. Katniss will deny it, but everything else about her reveals the truth.

Katniss has been keeping an eye on Peeta since they were children.

The reporters can speculate all they want, #Everthorne could be trending worldwide, but the truth is Gale’s fire only perpetuates the fire in Katniss, and that translates on the ice as passion. He has never known how to calm her anxieties. Soothe her frustrations, understand her stubborn spirit. Supported her off the ice.

In 2016 when Gale and Katniss made the decision to come out of retirement and train for the 2018 Winter Olympics their focus and devotion was for their sport and each other.

Gale and Madge broke up because of the decision, Madge was ready to settle down and have a family at 26, and she assumed Gale was too.

Gale was quoted to saying, “I’ve been in a very serious relationship with our sport.” It’s a painful truth.

But the most painful truth is Gale can’t survive without Katniss.

He wasn’t as upset about things ending with Madge as he was with about the idea of losing Katniss.

Prim sighs as she thinks about Gale’s mood and expression those weeks. Determination.

That’s Gale’s second reason for completing in the winter games this year, he’s holding on tightly to Katniss and he doesn’t want it to end. As Gale poured everything into their career, he’s been desperately trying to convey that he’s always wanted it to be the two of them in the end.

Peeta Mellark has been promoting a new energy drink so he’s in a lot of ads that play during the televised Olympic footage.

Prim elbows Posey as Peeta Mellark’s blue eyes flash on screen, enhanced by the blue in the logo of the energy drink. Posey bites her lip and smiles shyly.

Peeta chose to retired after his third gold in 2014 and this Winter Olympics he’s been hired as a commentator during the games.

They ask Peeta how he feels about not being a competitor. “Do I miss competing? Ceaser, you have no idea, the desire is always there. It’s very powerful. So, yes, I miss it. But would I want to go back? No! But. of course I miss it. Sure, I spent fifteen years of my life truly dedicated towards the sport and thought of nothing else. I thought there was no life after the sport, so I put in my time. But there is huge life afterwards, a real life.” Peeta says with a grin.

Real.

After all the acting Gale and Katniss have to do on the ice as a “couple” real is a powerful word.

Prim picks up the subtle communication to Katniss and purses her lips.

Ceaser asks Peeta about him commentating, he has polite, engaging answers. Ultimately he wants to inspire kids to go after their dreams. Hart melt all over Panem.

“How has retirement been since those 2014 Games?”

“It’s been busy. I had always known that my career would be kind of a launching pad into many different entrepreneurial activities and I’ve never been one to sit back and relax. I’ve always been on the go, very hungry for more and it’s been amazing. I could write a book!”

“Will you write a book?” Ceaser asks.

Peeta laughs.

“Maybe I will, maybe a cookbook. But it’s been amazing and I’m blessed to have incredible wins and devastating losses throughout the years. But I think it’s all a part of this human experience that we are going through, it’s a lot of fun…” Peeta continues into a promotion for the sponsors.

“We heard that Katniss Everdeen is a good friend of yours, what do you think about her coming out of retirement and going after the Gold with her partner?”  Ceaser Flickerman prys.

At Katniss’s name Peeta’s eyes seem to dance. He schools his expression in an attempt to conceal the affected we all just saw.

“Oh Ceaser she’s going to win, THEY –they are going to win. Katniss is awesome. She is a really good person. She is multi-talented and she has a beautiful personality that I think the world deserves to see more of besides just the figure skater, the superstar… with all the philanthropic stuff she has done, you’re going to love what she’s going to do to inspire kids. She is just a badass, you know what I mean? I try to push her to do the things that fulfill her. Coming out of retirement, she doesn’t need Gold, that’s the thing, you know, she just loves to compete and do her best. But I tell her that it is more than that, she’s inspiring people at every end of the world!” Peeta finishes with a wide smile and dimples. Blue eyes locking in half the viewership, millions of woman sigh a crossed the world.

“Do you think Madge will take Gale back?” Prim asks Posey.

“Yeah I do.” Posey answers with a shrug.

“Good, because Peeta Mellark is a goner.” Prim states wide eyed with a funny expression on her face.

Ice Dancing AU

There is this Olympic everlark thing going on and I had to join in. I’m not an expert in ice dancing so I hope I didn’t mess things up too much. And honestly, this is way more Katniss and Johanna hanging out than I expected. I’m sure I’ll write more as I have time. But I’m crazy busy with school.

"You have to be kidding me?" Johanna sank down on the couch beside a sobbing Katniss. She hadn't seen Katniss cry this hard since Prim got injured in a sledding accident.

"He said he doesn't want to skate anymore. That he wants to retire and get his Masters degree." Katniss choked out.

“Well, then just wash that dickface out of your hair and find yourself a new skating partner,” said Johanna as she took a huge gulp of Katniss’s Trader Joes wine and winced. It wasn’t strong enough for this conversation.

“It’s not that easy. Gale and I skated together since I was eleven. And finding new skating partners is way harder than finding a boyfriend.” Katniss genuinely looked worse than Madge had after breaking up with her bastard of a boyfriend Cato. And that was saying something. Johanna suspected that Gale had partly broken off his partnership with Katniss because he had hoped something romantic would come of it. Well, that was definitely not happening. Katniss had ignored any overtures of romance and had barely dated at all. And since he was now on Katniss’s most hated list up there with the guy who had accused Prim of being a slut on her sixteenth birthday it was even less likely. 

“Talk to Haymitch. There has to be some guy out there that needs a partner. You are damn good.” Johanna said. She was starting to get sappy. Ugh! She wasn’t up for this. But Madge was out of town and she’d have to do.

“Maybe. But we won’t get along. I’ve got as much charm as a dead squirrel, remember?” Katniss shook her head despairingly and Johanna refilled her glass.

“You just need to find a sexy partner that makes you want to rip his clothes off and have your way with him on the ice. I’m not saying Gale wasn’t hot but you guys had zero chemistry. Maybe it was because you looked like siblings or something.”

“Jo!” Katniss stammered. Her cheeks turned pink and Johanna rolled her eyes. Katniss Everdeen was ridiculously prudish. “Gale and I were fine. We just kept things classy that’s all.”

“You mean you kept things classy.” Johanna corrected. People throughout the years had thought there was something between Gale and Katniss. According to Katniss, they had dated for all of three months when she was sixteen. It had ended in a huge fight and they had nearly stopped skating together.

Katniss talked to Haymitch who was nearly as mad as she was. It wasn’t that they blamed Gale for deciding to pursue his education. It was just really tough for her. And Haymitch who was her coach. They had placed pretty low in Sochi due to a disastrous fall on the twizzles and had been overwhelmed by Davis and White anyway. But they had real potential in 2018. And Gale threw that away.

“I have someone I want you to meet,” Haymitch said one day. Katniss nodded but wasn’t very interested. It was a hopeless case.

“Katniss, this is Peeta Mellark. He skated with Delly Cartwright but she retired due to injuries. We’ve been talking to his coach Effie and she thinks you guys would be well matched. I do too.” Haymitch motioned with his free arm to a young man with golden hair and blue eyes. Katniss almost laughed. Peeta Mellark was very well known. They had encountered each other many times over the years but had never really talked. He and Delly had gotten pretty good but Delly had a problem with her hips and kept getting injured. Even though ice dancing wasn’t nearly as hazardous as pairs skating it had been too much for her and she had to retire.

“When Haymitch told Effie that you were free I was the first person to pick up the phone. I’ve been admiring your skating for years.” Peeta’s voice was quiet with a slight trace of a British accent. His mother was British and he had skated for their team and nearly made it to the Olympics if not for another injury.

Katniss flushed and took his hand. It was warm and strong. He was built much more heavily than the other skaters but having seen him skate he looked graceful and athletic on ice. “It’s nice to meet you. I remembered seeing you at Worlds.”

Haymitch conducted the interview like it was a weird matchmaking game. He asked them random questions like their favorite colors and what they liked to eat. She wondered why he was asking. But then she realized he was doing it for her benefit. So it would relax her enough to be able to skate with him. She found out his favorite color was sunset orange, that he liked to bake and paint and that he had two older brothers.

By the end of the evening, she had agreed to try this new partnership. They skated pretty well together right from the start. She was closer to his height than she had been with Gale and even though she was used to going faster than he was he tended to get more height in his twizzles.

Effie got on her nerves though. The woman had the completely creepy idea of having them stare into each other’s eyes for five minutes before practice every day. She said it built trust. Katniss hated being that vulnerable but had to admit that there were worse things to stare at for five minutes.

“You did what I said,” Johanna commented as Katniss put her skate guards on. Johanna knew nothing about ice dancing but she came along to practice occasionally mainly to shout lewd suggestions at Katniss until Haymitch dragged her away.

“What?” Katniss questioned as Johanna grinned and pulled her aside.

“You and Blondie look good out there. I think he’s managed to melt the ice princess.” Johanna chuckled as Katniss scowled.

“I’m not an ice princess.” That honor would go to someone like Glimmer Rogers or Cashmere Reynolds. Not to her who had to struggle her whole life. She was the Tanya Harding of the skating world.

“What I mean is that you two look like you actually want to ‘make love’ and all that romantic bullshit.” Johanna put air quotes around “make love” and then laughed at Katniss’s blush. She was so predictable.

“That’s all part of the thing,” Katniss replied. “It takes a lot of trust to skate like that.”

“Well, whatever you say. But I promise the press is gonna be shipping you before the first competition is over.”

“Oh, I’m used to that. Everyone thought that Gale and I should date.” Katniss laughed and then added, “Although I think most of the women wanted him for themselves. He was never lonely.”

“And that made you jealous?” Johanna surmised.

“Kinda, at least at first. I can’t explain it. You have such a connection on ice. But after a while I realized that we did best on the ice and that’s all. But I guess it wasn’t enough for him.”

Johanna laughed and said, “Spare me the curse of the nice guys. I can’t tell you how many guys I have dated who complain because they are nice and I don’t appreciate them properly. I’ve never dated a single woman who said that.”

Johanna was right. The first competition they were at flew by and they managed to win. Next thing they knew Twitter was full of #everlark. As well as a weird ship name Katniss flushed when she saw. It was strange. She had only been skating with him for a short time and she already felt like they knew each other their whole lives. There was no one she trusted more.
