After the mosaic of the Baptistery in Florence (13th century), this is the most famous depiction of the nine angelic choirs of Dionysius the Areopagite. In the center between two cherubs seated on the throne of Christ, around nine cherubs with burning torches in their hands. Хоры ангельские. Византийская мозаика на куполе собора Сан-Марко. Within the wide circle, directly under the image of Christ, is depicted a ten-winged seraph, on whose chest in a round medallion is an inscription composed of Latin and Greek letters: "plenitudo signaiq" (a cluster of fiery, luminous signs). In accordance with this inscription, all the other angelic ranks are arranged clockwise in the following order: seraphim, principalities, virtues, powers, archangels, angels, dominions, thrones. In the four hanging wedges are depicted the fathers of the Western Church: Jerome, Augustine, Gregory and Ambrose, inspired by angels to write their works. Внутри широкого круга, непосредственно под образом Христа, изображен десятикрылый серафим, на груди которого в круглом медальоне надпись, составленная из латинских и греческих букв: «plenitudo signaiq» (скопление пламенных, светящихся знаков). В соответствии с этой надписью по часовой стрелке располагаются все остальные ангельские чины в следующем порядке: серафимы, начала, силы, власти, архангелы, ангелы, господства, престолы. В четырех висячих клинах изображены отцы Западной Церкви: Иероним, Августин, Григорий и Амвросий, вдохновляемые ангелами к написанию трудов.
