Breaking the Cycle: Examining the Impact of Imprisonment
Prisons, also known as correctional institutions, have always been an integral part of the criminal justice system, along with police and courts. Although it varies from country to country, the basic process is the same. When legal punishment is imposed on a criminal, they are usually sent to prison. Offenders are incarcerated for a variety of reasons, including justice and punishment, but one of the main reasons is public safety. However, others believe that incarcerated individuals may learn more effective crime strategies from each other. Therefore, the question arises, is it true that sending criminals to prison could be effective to reduce crime? There have been many studies debating and proving that sending criminals to prisons has both positive and negative effects.
There are some reasons to believe that prisons may prevent crime. As mentioned before, public safety is a consideration as prisons provide a place for putting people who have been convicted of crimes in prison, especially violent crimes, as a way to make society safer. They keep offenders off the streets and prevent them from committing crimes in the community, an effect that criminologists call “incapacitation”. Prisons act as a deterrent, as offenders are locked up, and it is also to ensure that the law is respected and upheld.
The experience of imprisonment could deter offenders from committing crimes to avoid prison in the future. Studies have found that incarceration decreases the probability that an individual will reoffend within five years by 27 percentage points and reduces the corresponding number of criminal charges per individual by 10 charges. Prisons might give offenders the chance to reflect on their actions and give them time to reform their behaviour. They provide opportunities to rehabilitate, such as intensive courses to overcome drug addiction, education, or counselling.
Yet, there are also good reasons to say that prisons may have the chance to increase crime numbers. Prisons are considered schools of crime. Incarcerated individuals learn more effective crime strategies from each other. The numbers of people in jails have indeed increased, but crime is still going up. One researcher argues that prisons are considered dumping grounds, meaning that people with mental health issues, drug addiction problems, homelessness, and illiteracy are considered criminals. The environment of the prison is harsh. This problem further contributes to low rehabilitation and high reconviction rates.
Likewise, prisons may often lead to resentment and a determination to get back at society, which means most prisoners reoffend after release and do not reform. Although they may have been advised, they have not changed because of possible environmental problems. This is also a waste of time and energy in rehabilitating them.
Above all, sending an individual convicted of a crime to prison is not a very effective way to deter crime. There are some aspects that need to be considered; prisoners may learn how to be better criminals from each other. They could take revenge on the community after release. Even so, it still could prevent them from committing crimes in society.

"And? We're all here to win. They're my opponents, it's my job to beat them." Roro's expression turned a notch more sour. "All I'm saying is that the rest of the world cup considers you to be a bit of a ..." Henrik rolled his eyes. "Intense competitor?" "Soulless ghoul is the term used most often," Roro finished. Henrik huffed, and crossed his arms in front of his chest. Sensing that this would lead nowhere, Roro sighed, and leant over the table. "Look, nobody expects you to turn into Mother Theresa. Just...maybe try to find another way to express your displeasure about someone." "And how the fuck am I supposed to do that?" Roro shrugged helplessly. "What do I know. Go into the forst and yell, start a diary, whatever. Just, please, be nicer."
What do you do when THE Mr. Wow, the absolute, undeniable love of your life, is not only your fiercest competitor but also retires at the height of his career and disappears happily into the sunset? You shut off your heart forever, of course. And it is just what Henrik did two years ago, to the detriment of his already less than stellar reputation. At the plea of his coach he starts a diary as a means to get his anger-issues under control. Henrik is not convinced at first, though he dutifully starts to write and soon learns that yes, maybe it is a little bit helpful to sort your thoughts ever so often. Things, i.e. Henrik's life, turn chaotic though when rumours arise that Mr. Wow intends to return to the world of ski racing...
The photographer in Schladming had an eye to catch the most awesome faces of the skiers, and bc working on my wips would be too logical I did this.

Quindi abbiamo i primi tre muri.
Poi arrivano ulteriori informazioni:
(R. Paush)

Awhile back I did my own redesign of the Toa Mata from Bionicle. Mostly just trying to find a way to draw them without having to keep the toys permanently on hand for reference and a bit more streamlined to make them easier to draw in general. As far as universal details go, I gave them a segmented body template to lean into the biomechanical aspect of them, I also tried to find a consistent way to draw some of the more common limbs they had. I also tried to play with the gears on the back by giving each of them something unique and tried to give them unique kneeguards. I also tried to incorporate the orbs they had their chest by incorporating their elements matoran symbols into them
Tahu - Tahu served as kind of the template for the others, so he's probably the most standard out of them. I wanted to stick primarily with his original colors so made the bright red and orange the most prominent colors on him, but I also used the dark red he sported later as an accent color for more color blocking. His sword is based more on the Bionicle Heroes interpretation of it, though I may change that if I ever redraw this design. His left arm was never really stated to be anything, so I tried to purpose it as a sort of Aegis; it still matches his more aggressive personality, but also gives it a more utility. I also modeled his back gear after exhaust pipes to relate towards his element. Though it probably won't be seen that much, I did try to define his head too, making it kinda broad; specifically basing the heads off a combination of the originals, the glatorian heads from the end of the original line, and the heads from the reboot.
Kopaka - Since Toa of Ice tend to stick around cold places, I incorporated a bit of a coat into his armor for insulation. His sword also draws some inspiration from the Heroes version, but it also still works like his toy. His left arm was a bit awkward so I limited the armor to mostly just his bicep, I also tried to make the shield look like a snowflake on top of the radar dish look it obviously was piece wise. Kopaka was also one of the few toa consistently depicted is hauling around the McGuffins for whatever saga they're directly involved in, so I gave him a satchel to call back to that. His back gear is directly modeled after a snowflake like his shield, but a bit more obviously. I also tried to make his kneeguards resemble icicles. I tried to give his head a sharper look to call back to his cold and distant personality.
Lewa - Tried to make Lewa look a bit more lanky compared to the others since he's supposed to be the resident tree swinger. His axe leans more towards the original, but I still tried to incorporate aspects of the heroes version for fun. I tried to make his left arm a big grabby arm since most people turn it into a gun or something, but BlazeTBW thought it looked like a machete so I incorporated a fold-our arm blade to help him cut up vines and foliage as he swings around. His kneeguards are supposed to look like palm leaves but I'm not satisfied with how they turned out. I also gave him a few pouches since I figured he's want to keep a few snacks on hand or maybe even swipe a souvenir here and there.
Onua - Tried to make Onua look pretty broad since he's supposed to be strong even without his mask buffing him. Unfortunately his monochromatic color scheme can make things hard to color block, so I threw in some purple from his G2 version in order to help highlight some parts of his body. obviously made his claws his actual hands. I also did something a bit different with his legs sinw his original toy had them flipped around to bulk them, so I tried leaning into that while also making it look like a heavy duty hinge. I also tried to make his head particularly broad too.
Pohatu - Pohatu was pretty different from the original toa in that his torso was flipped around to make him more bottom heavy, so I tried to call back to that with his body shape. I also took inspiration from the toys arms to make them bigger than the others. I did include the two orbs on his shoulders, but recolored them to make them different from the chest one and included the extra pins on the leg. Since Toa of Stone live in the dessert I gave him a scarf to wrap around his head for sandstorms and gave him a decently sized backpack since he's also been happy to regale his own adventures (so it works for holding souvenirs). His kneeguards are based on boulders. I also inlcluded the orange his Phnatoka version sported to highlight parts of his armor
Gali - Obviously Gali's body is mostly just a female version of the standard one I came up with. I did call back to the pins her original toy had in her hips and I incorporated the mata hand into the chest orb I try to include on all of them. Her hooks are intended to slip onto her hands more-so than replace them. Her back-gear and kneeguards are also based on a bunch of bubbles. finally I incorporated her Mistaka colors as a highlight to add more color blocking.

Translating the names of the sons of Fëanor into my *conlang* because I must honour my predecessors
The characters in the Silmarillion have many names each, so I'll try to translate the most important ones or "condense" them if needed. The names will not be as pretty as those Tolkien came up with, but I have my *own* aesthetic sensitivities. So that's the deal.
•Maedhros•
I've decided to translate his Sindarin name, Maedhros, as Hanasorēli /ˈhanasoˌɾeːli/, which is translated as "beautiful red-head." Hana means "beauty" and sorēli means "fox-like," but in context it is used to refer to a person with red hair.
Nelyafinwë could be translated as Tūnlipē /ˈtuːnlipeː/ or Tūnlipene /ˈtuːnlipeˌne/, meaning "third in the father-line." Tūnli means third and Pene or Pē is a word used for all the men of the same father-line. Another translation could be Tūnlisinwe /ˈtuːnlisiˌnwe/, just "third Finwë."
Finally I decided to translate Russandol as Rustarozyu /ˈɾustaɾoˌʃju/ from rusta, "copper," and roz, "head." Yes, I did steal my word for head directly from Hebrew. I just think it's a neat word.
•Maglor•
Maglor is the sindarized version of Makalaurë, which I translated as Gyongilyalrū /ˈgjongiljalˌɾuː/, "gold-weaver". Gyon, gold, and gilyal, weaving. I could have translated it as Gyonlitwilmanīdu /ˈgjonlitwilˌmaniːdu/, meaning "maker of golden light" but I simply do not like it as much.
Kanafinwë became Hānrisinwe /ˈhaːnɾisiˌnwe/, meaning "commanding" or "strong-willed Finwë." I had to adapt Finwë as Sinwe since my conlang doesn't have /f/, and /s/ is as close as I can get.
•Celegorm•
Celegorm is the Sindarized version of Tyelkormo, and they both mean something like "early riser" or "hasty" or "swift." I decided on the name Kānitatichye /ˈkaːnitaˌtit͡ʃje/, "active by dawn," made out of Kan-, "with," -nita, "dawn" and tichye, "active, ready, awake."
Turkafinwë I translated as Karyasinwe /ˈkaryasiˌnwe/, strong Finwë.
•Caranthir•
I've decided to translate Caranthir as Rāxilibyatna/ˈɾaːxiliˌbjatna/, rāxili, "reddish" and byatnali, "face."
His father would be Lōrlisinwe /ˈloːɾlisiˌnwe/, "Shadowy Finwë.
•Curufin•
This is probably my favourite of the bunch. I translated his father name, Curufinwë, "Skillfull Finwë" as Kwohilisinwe /ˈkwohiliˌsinwe/, meaning "Crow-like Finwë." Crow-like, in this context, means "skillful" or "crafty," but it could also refer to his black hair. His mother name would be Nekobāru, /ˈnekobaːˌɾu/, little father, from neko, little, and bāru, father.
The case with these two is super interesting, but we aren't going to get super into it now. I translated Ambarussa as Rāxorozyu /ˈɾaːxoɾoˌʃju/, meaning red (rāj) and, as I stabilised with Mae, head (roz).
•Ambarussa, Amrod and Amras•
Amrod's mother name (the second one, that is) was Umbarto, meaning "The fated." The meaning of "fate" in English is quite elusive, but I finally decided on Wīnōlyu /ˈwiːnoːlju/ meaning "future-past." Which is serviceable. His second second name, Ambarto, I translated as Wānaryu /ˈwaːnaɾju/, which, I kid you not, means "updog." Yes, for real. I wanted to keep the names similar, and I had actually written down that "dog" could mean excitable, loyal and noble. Which is what Ambarto means. It was the only rational thing to do. His father name would be translated to Nekosinwe, Tiny Finwë.
Amras' father name is Telufinwe, "last Finwë," which I've translated as Kyesīnwe,

Dream vs Reality Both are illusions!
Why should I worry, it was just a Dream It is not real, no need to scream A Dream is an Illusion, though vivid it may seem
But Life is different; Life is real Don’t we all suffer, don’t we all swirl? Very few go deep to discover the treasure, the pearl
What is this Journey of Life on earth? What is the Purpose of our human birth? Is there a way to live with Joy and Mirth?
We all live with suffering and strife We laugh, we cry, we endure Life But we don’t cut through to the Truth with a knife
Just like a Dream, Life is an Illusion Very few of us get this Realization We don’t use our power of Discrimination
Just like what happens in a Dream is not true Life is nothing but an Illusion too I am not ‘I’ and you are not ‘you’
Little do we realize what is our role Dreams and Reality will take us to the goal Which is to discover we are but the Soul
When are we going to start our Quest? Not just Dream, but get out of our nest Realize Life is an Illusion, get to the crest
Just like Dreams are not real, so is Life Needlessly we suffer, we cry with strife With misery, pain, sorrow, life is rife
But we can be Happy if we Realize the Truth Overcoming sorrow, getting to the bottom of the root If we realize it’s a Drama, we can enjoy the fruit
Do you worry about the Dream that you saw at night? You wake up to realize that there was no fight Life is good, it's shiny and bright
But Life is different, we continue to cry We suffer, we question, we look at the sky We cannot differentiate between the truth and the lie
Just like a Dream, Life is an Illusion It is a long Dream that ends in disillusion Because of ignorance, there is no Illumination
We think Life is real, it’s not just a Dream! And so, we suffer, and so we scream When we realize the truth, life will flow like a stream
If only we Discriminate and open our eyes Life is just an Illusion, once we realize We can be in Bliss with nothing to analyze
Life is a Journey, we come and we go Little do we understand this earthly show Our goal is to realize the truth, and not just know
We are not the Body that goes to sleep We are not the Mind that makes us weep Nor are we the Ego that wants everything to keep
When we realize what we are not In Thought no more will we be caught The Truth in front of our eyes will be brought
The Journey of Life has a Purpose Not to jump like a clown and make Life a circus Once we realize the Truth, we will never be nervous
We all commit the Greatest SinWe don’t realize that God is within How will this battle of life we win?
When Dream and Reality, we contemplate And the difference between the two, we discriminate We will arrive at heaven’s gate
Did you decide your human birth? Did you decide how you came to earth? No, it’s Karma that governs the earth
When we realize that the earth is a stage The Drama unfolds by Karma, page by page Then, we will be free from the misery cage
Those who realize that Life is a Drama Those who discover everything is Karma Realize that just like a Dream, there is no trauma
Just like a Dream, Life is an Illusion Once we get this Divine Realization We will know that everything is a Manifestation
We are different Souls, so do we see The Truth is that weare Divine energy Everything is one, there is no you and me
Life is like a Dream, when we realize this Like after a Dream, there is no unhappiness But for this, we need Consciousness
As long as in ignorance we are bound We will suffer as we live on the ground Till the ultimate truth is found
What is the Purpose of reading this book? It is to change your Life’s outlook But first, you must be free from the ignorance hook
So, it’s time to start And pull the myth apart And this is to learn the Spiritual art
The Ultimate Truth is everything is an Illusion Even Science has declared with Discrimination This world is nothing but a Manifestation

Expand Your Horizon, Pick Up a New Tongue
“One language sets you in a corridor for life. Two languages open every door along the way”, Frank Smith. Speaking, writing and reading are essential to everyday life, and language is the primary tool for expression and communication. There are roughly more than 7100 languages spoken in the world today, approximately 1.35 billion out of 7.8 billion inhabitants speak English and the majority aren’t native English speakers. Countries with native English speakers include New Zealand, Ireland, the United Kingdom, the United States of America and others. So far, besides being widely spoken, it is the most commonly learned foreign language in the world. However, there are some disputes that learning a foreign language is useless. Some said that mastering a foreign language could have more job opportunities while others thought learning a new language is costly and time-costing. Therefore, the question arises, is it important for us to learn of second language?
To start off, learning foreign language can improve the chances of getting jobs and better job prospects. In today’s business driven society, being bilingual or multilingual can give you a competitive edge when searching for jobs, or maintaining your current employment. Companies that are planning to expand or have expanded overseas and global, such as Allianz and Apple, are constantly looking for bilingual employees. They are well paid and have good benefits, because they will ultimately give the company a huge competitive advantage and performance. By learning a foreign language, you will be indispensable in your workplace as you can easily bridge the cultural gap between the two countries by understanding the needs of global customers, partners and suppliers. Hence, foreign language is beneficial for your career.
Furthermore, mastering one or more foreign languages could increase cultural awareness. Cultural awareness is being aware of and respecting the influence and role of different cultures. This enables us to communicate effectively and understand the intentions of the people from different backgrounds. A lack of cultural awareness may mislead crucial decisions. Apart from that, it helps us avoid misjudging people from different cultural backgrounds and allows for a better way of relating than having a conflict. The ultimate goal is to understand the differences between yourself and people from different countries and backgrounds, especially with unique attributes and values.
On the contrary, acquiring foreign language takes time and it’s costly. You can never succeed in any set of tasks without putting in enough time. Different languages have completely different systems of grammar, different alphabet and different sounds. Foreign Service Institute (FSI) research indicates that it takes 480 hours to achieve basic fluency in the first languages and 720 hours for second to fourth languages. Learning a language with cheap or free materials, such as YouTube videos, will never do you any good compared to the well-packed offered by recognized and expensive programs provided by educational institutions and experienced teachers. Unless you are not keen on mastering a language, you cannot learn without spending money.
Additionally, we will not necessarily have the opportunity to speak the language. If you haven’t travelled or aren’t interested in travelling, then you won’t have the chance to speak the language with natives. Even if you have the opportunity to travel, it’s easy to get around in many countries while speaking English. Knowing a foreign language may help in some careers, but it doesn’t help in many jobs. For example, a blogger or a truck driver.
To sum up everything that has been stated so far, learning a second is essential for people especially when they are looking for a job and also in their social activity. It is true that learning a second language cost time and money and it is possible for not speaking it up with the native but just simply knowing a new language could help us add skills to our own and there will be a time where you can speak up.

Tafsir Ibn Kathir: Surah Al-Ra’d Ayah 3-4
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
13:3 And it is He Who spread out the earth, and placed therein firm mountains and rivers
and of every kind of fruit. He made Zawjayn Ithnayn (two in pairs).
He brings the night as a cover over the day.
Verily, in these things, there are Ayat (signs) for people who reflect.
13:4 And in the earth are neighboring tracts, and gardens of vines, and green crops (fields), and date palms, growing into two or three from a single stem root, or otherwise, watered with the same water; yet some of them We make more excellent than others to eat.
Verily, in these things there are Ayat (signs) for the people who understand.
Allah's Signs on the Earth
After Allah mentioned the higher worlds, He started asserting His power, wisdom and control over the lower parts of the world.
Allah said,
And it is He Who spread out the earth, made it spacious in length and width.
and placed therein firm mountains and rivers,
Allah has placed on the earth firm mountains and made rivers, springs and water streams run through it, so that the various kinds of fruits and plants of every color, shape, taste and scent are watered with this water,
and of every kind of fruit He made Zawjayn Ithnayn, two types from every kind of fruit,
He brings the night as a cover over the day.
Allah made the day and night pursue each other, when one is about to depart, the other overcomes it, and vice versa. Allah controls time just as He controls space and matter,
Verily, in these things, there are Ayat for people who reflect.
who reflect on Allah's signs and the evidences of His wisdom.
Allah said,
And in the earth are neighboring tracts,
Meaning, next to each other, some of them are fertile and produce what benefits people, while others are dead, salty and do not produce anything.
This meaning was collected from Ibn Abbas, Mujahid, Sa`id bin Jubayr, Ad-Dahhak and several others.
This also covers the various colors and types of diverse areas on the earth; some red, some white, or yellow, or black, some are stony, or flat, or sandy, or thick, or thin, all made to neighbor each other while preserving their own qualities. All this indicates the existence of the Creator Who does what He wills, there is no deity or lord except Him.
Allah said next,
and gardens of vines, and green crops (fields), and date palms...
Allah's statement, next,
Sinwanun wa (or) Ghayru Sinwan. `Sinwan' means,
growing into two or three from a single stem, such as figs, pomegranate and dates.
`Ghayru Sinwan' means,
having one stem for every tree, as is the
case with most plants.
From this meaning, the paternal uncle is called one's `Sinw' of his father.
There is an authentic Hadith that states that the Messenger of Allah said to Umar bin Al-Khattab,
Do you not know that man's paternal uncle is the Sinw of his father!
Allah said next,
watered with the same water; yet some of them We make more excellent than others to eat.
Abu Hurayrah narrated that the Prophet commented on Allah's statement, (yet some of them We make more excellent than others to eat),
The Dagal, the Persian, the sweet, the bitter...'' At-Tirmidhi collected this Hadith and said,
"Hasan Gharib.''
Therefore, there are differences between plants and fruits with regards to shape, color, taste, scent, blossoms and the shape of their leaves. There are plants that are very sweet or sour, bitter or mild, fresh; some plants have a combination of these attributes, and the taste then changes and becomes another taste, by Allah's will. There is also some that are yellow in color, or red, or white, or black, or blue, and the same can be said about their flowers; and all these variances and complex diversities are watered by the same water.
Surely, in this there are signs for those who have sound reasoning, and surely, all this indicates the existence of the Creator Who does what He wills and Whose power made distinctions between various things and created them as He wills. So Allah said,
Verily, in these things there are Ayat for the people who understand.

My heart in your hands
watchmaker!Marco / professional-rich-kid!Gino
Marco loves his job, creating life out of nothing but wires and springs, but loathes his customers, mindless oafs with more money than sense or curiosity who treat his children like disposable junk. Gino is the younger son of a Billionaire who hides behind the shell of a vapid, bored brat, having accepted the fact that he will never be equal to Golden Boy Mauro in his father's eyes. He joins them on a very important business meeting with prospective clients which leads them to a tiny watch manufactury in the boonies of Switzerland, and while Father and Mauro do very important business stuff, Gino tries and fails to flirt with the most attractive watchmaker in the entire place.
None of his movements betrayed the annoyance in his eyes as the handsome guy calmly put his silly little clamp on the table, raised his silly little magnifying glass over his forehead, and turned around to glare at Gino. It was there though, and it made these deep, soulful eyes all the more mesmerising. "Unless you want to learn all the ways I can kill you with my instruments, you better take two steps back!" he hissed. Gino laughed, which infuriated him even more. "But what if I need an expertise?" he asked as he retreated out of the other guy's reach. Better safe than sorry. "About my watch, I mean." Casually he pulled his sleeve back to reveal the wristwatch he had chosen today. The blonde snack scoffed, and put the magnifying glass back over his right eye. "Since when does trash need an expertise?" "Trash?" Gino asked, and turned his wrist to examine the clock face. "Don't you know that..." "...it is a Breitling Chronomat COT XV that set you back a little over 100k?" the other guy said to the watch in his hands. "I know exactly what it is, and I have to say it fits you well. It is reductive, inelegant, and tacky. Just like you."

Photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting to produce hydrogen fuel was first reported 50 years ago1, yet artificial photosynthesis has not become a widespread technology. Although planar Si solar cells have become a ubiquitous electrical energy source economically competitive with fossil fuels, analogous PEC devices have not been realized, and standard Si p-type/n-type (p–n) junctions cannot be used for water splitting because the bandgap precludes the generation of the needed photovoltage. An alternative paradigm, the particle suspension reactor (PSR), forgoes the rigid design in favour of individual PEC particles suspended in solution, a potentially low-cost option compared with planar systems2,3. Here we report Si-based PSRs by synthesizing high-photovoltage multijunction Si nanowires (SiNWs) that are co-functionalized to catalytically split water. By encoding a p-type–intrinsic–n-type (p–i–n) superlattice within single SiNWs, tunable photovoltages exceeding 10 V were observed under 1 sun illumination. Spatioselective photoelectrodeposition of oxygen and hydrogen evolution co-catalysts enabled water splitting at infrared wavelengths up to approximately 1,050 nm, with the efficiency and spectral dependence of hydrogen generation dictated by the photonic characteristics of the sub-wavelength-diameter SiNWs. Although initial energy conversion efficiencies are low, multijunction SiNWs bring the photonic advantages of a tunable, mesoscale geometry and the material advantages of Si—including the small bandgap and economies of scale—to the PSR design, providing a new approach for water-splitting reactors.
