Murf's AMA: Memnoch the Devil

@adamnablelittledevil you sent me such an incredibly lovely & thorough ask that I wanted to address every single point you made. So I'm breaking your PM up into separate AMA-style posts. Thank you SO much!

AWESOME concept, yes. I always call MtD Anne Rice's answer to Dante's Inferno. Zero plot whatsoever. 😅 But whereas Dante was mostly just throwing shade at everyone he knew IRL; Memnoch's beef is with God himself, just one giant rant, LOL. Peak pettiness.

I like how Memnoch underestimates Lestat, cuz he knows Les is a p.o.s., and assumes Les will hate God enough to join him in Hell. But like...Les LOVES God. AR was struggling to reconcile her complicated relationship with Catholicism thru Lestat (& Armand & Louis, ofc). Les did NOT want to be the stooge for another despotic psychopath the way he was under Akasha in QotD. In MtD, is that despot the Devil? Or God himself? In the end, Lestat decides to work for neither one of them.

Memnoch had no idea who TF he was talking to; cuz Les had grown & changed since IWTV, and QotD, and even TotBT. I love watching Les' maturity as he (incrementally) goes from this rabid feral manchild who never looks before he leaps; into a (slightly) more responsible adult in each following book. Ofc he'll always be the Brat Prince who requires adult supervision at all times; but my appreciation for Memnoch comes from it being THE pivot where Les realizes he HAS to change. Everyone thinks the worst of him, inc. the Devil himself, cuz he HAS done awful terrible unforgivable things. Once Les is in that coma, he's in Time Out for years, thinking back on everything he's done. He sees the pain everyone feels when they think he's gone, and he KNOWS he's loved--by Louis, Armand, Gabrielle, etc; everyone who visits him in that church.

Once Les finally wakes up in Merrick, he's actively trying to HELP people: hence: the Mayfair crossovers in Blackwood Farm & Blood Canticle. Thus, Les finds his equilibrium (and blessedly turns Rowan Mayfair down LOL), just in time for The Voice to start running amok in Prince Lestat.

So yeah, I like the book overall, although I agree that it's not one of her best. Despite its lack of plot & heavy religiosity, it's a good story, all things considered. Cuz without Memnoch, Les probably would've been a totally different (read: worse) person.

And it makes me wonder what AMC will use as the impetus for Lestat's redemption arc, and if they will cover Memnoch at all, or just skip over it. (Esp. since they've constantly mentioned how much shame will drive Lestat in S3, esp. wrt his role in Claudia's death.)

TL;DR: I wanna see Lestat drink menstrual Jesus' blood! 😂

i had to include all four shots bc he is a sleepwalker/runner LOOK AT HOW CUTE HE IS ;U;

it looks like he sleeps in a casket-like bed (hence, the lid is open top centre) I believe he only has this open when he's awake so idk who forgot to close it. it needs to be closed so that when rev does actually get up and sleepwalks, he's contained. the last thing the loonatics want to wake up to is the house completely trashed bc rev had a dream he was running from something. so casket bed it was.

that's also why. he doesn't sleep with sheets. if he trips and falls oh lord. therefore he wears super warm pjs in the winter to not freeze to death

he's got a ton of books, rightfully so, I think he and tech would share this bookcase because it would have different manuals, blueprints and miscellaneous mechanical guides. robot guides. that too. i also think rev would be that person who re-reads his childhood books over and over again and not get sick of them ever

my thoughts on single's inferno:

season 1

s1 feels so new, fresh, and exciting. but there's not much progress for each person. i'm so pissed the way Yeawon barely has any screentime. she's the one who actually had personality (sorry not sorry) + jintaek and kang so yeon too. apart from that, there was no couple who i support truly. Jia and the puppy guy only on the physical-attraction level. and for Sehoon-Jiyeon, he seems really pursuing Jiyeon while she was clearly uncomfortable. i just think he doesn't respect her decision, sorry. (honorable mention: Yeawon & Hyunseung should've been together!!)

season 2

i think i enjoyed s2 the most by far. maybe because i actually like the cast. their bond seems more genuine like no one is really left out. everyone feels sooo different and interesting. Yoongjae, Seo Eun, Nadine, Jinyoung, Sejun... seriously lovelovelove them. the love-relationship also so interesting in a healthy way, and i support almost all of them!! (Youngjae-Seo Eun, Jinyoung-Nadine, Jinyoung-Seulki, Sejun-Seo). one thing that's disappoint me is that Sejeong didn't get the chance to go to paradise at all :(

season 3

for s3, this is the most heated and dramatic ever. for entertaining purposes, this season is the winner lmao. you can't predict at all, anything can happen on the next ep. the way Gwanhee carrying this season is unbeatable, i've never been annoyed so much by one person on reality shows. also this season had interesting people with personality more than those 2 prev seasons. i like Hajeong, Jinseok, Minkyu (also Hyeseon a little bit) throughout the show. but i can't find myself love the couples, didn't get the emotional parts on it. (actually, Minwoo-Sieun a little closer sooo happy they're endgame)
