I’m finally continuing my read through of the original 80s New Mutants, I’m on issue 22 and since the demon bear storyline the art has been gorgeous. I sometimes stop to read the letters at the end of issues and oh my god this one is so cute

I'm gonna sue them if they don't show us Max's letter the next season you don't understand.

She wrote a letter to El- Her absolute best friend and soulmate, the person who'll give up her own life to protect her and you're not showing that??

She wrote a letter to Dustin- Her giddy giddy friend who had a crush on her and who now is her giddy giddy best friend and you're not showing that??

She wrote a letter to Will- Her friend who has so much sass and trauma in common with her but they haven't really bonded about that yet and you're not showing that??

She wrote a letter to Lucas- Her stalker. The love of her life, her ex boyfriend but more like her best friend or guardian angel, the person that likes her so much, the source of happiness in her life and you're not showing that??

She wrote a letter to Steve- The big brother in her found family who protected her from her own abusive brother and is always her babysitter even when she's a teen and you're not showing that??

She wrote a letter to Mike- Her friend who always gets on her nerves, the person who she "hates" so much and the friend who's literally her in the different font and you're not showing that??

Well, screw sue you!

So I'm doing a season 3 rewatch and I've noticed some things (some ramblings about 3x01)

1. Hopper goes to Joyce and makes her write the heart-to-heart to Mike and El, nothing super significant about that alone (and of course Hopper actually ends up writing his own letter). I just think it's interesting how later on Will is the one to create a heart-to-heart "from El" to Mike... The Byers are always solving everyone else's problems lol, I love them but babe you needa focus on yourself and your happiness too😭

2. Also, when the party + El and Max are going up the hill to use Cerebro to talk to Suzie, Dustin mentions that Suzie is Mormon. He explains that: "her parents would never approve. It's all a bit Shakespearean. Like Romeo and Juliet. Star crossed lovers". I thought this was interesting because you could say the same about Mike and Will being gay in the 80's in a small town where being in a gay relationship does seem forbidden. And when Dustin says, "her parents would never approve" El is cut off from the frame... Idk the fact that she's the only one out of frame is interesting to me, especially since she's clinging right onto Mike's arm the whole scene. Instead, the two people in the back of the group who aren't engaging in the conversation are Mike and Will. Then she comes back into frame when Dustin mentions Romeo and Juliet. Now the thing about Romeo and Juliet is that it's regarded as a romantic tale, but I disagree with that perspective honestly... R + J love for each other is so intense and passion filled that they ignore everything else, even important things like family and other responsibilities. Their love is destructive, kind of like Mike and El's love. In Hopper's letter he mentions that he misses when he and El would spend time together and is feeling her distance because of her new relationship. Similar to how Will, Lucas, and Dustin recount that Mike is being super distant and annoying because he is neglecting the group to makeout with El all the time. Max opposes them by stating "It's romantic". Max is also the person who's been in the group the shortest amount of time, the boys who have known Mike since childhood state, "It's gross" and "it's bullshit". Mike is severely neglecting his friendships in the name of love, El is doing the same to her paternal figure.

3. Another thing I love about this season is how Lucas is quick to call out Mike on his bs. When Mike makes the excuse of "I was spending romantic time with my girlfriend" Lucas says "Yeah well I'm spending romantic time with MY girlfriend" (whilst still spending time with his friends) But it's also funny because Lucas is insinuating that this theater going experience is romantic, like everyone has pointed out by now, this was essentially a Byler + Lumax double date (like this scene didn't HAVE to happen, they could've waited until Dustin got back to see a movie together, and once Dustin does return we already see how neglectful Mike is being towards everyone. So, what was the point of this whole mall movie theater scene...well to establish the mall setting and the new characters, thats first and foremost, but it was also to show that Mike is still trying to at least put in some effort into his relationship to Will. It shows that he still cares and is at least kindaa keeping his promises from the previous season (making sure his best friend is feeling safe).

4. The hand grab Joyce does to Hopper to reassure him... Byler heart-to-heart vibes...

Question: Why aren't there more Nancy and Mike scenes when they share the same passion of writing???

Anyways this episode is just so funny honestly, I love how angry Hopper gets at Mike. All their scenes together in every season are so good. We missed out on those in season 4, I hope we get some more in s5

so here’s something - for a while, last year and a little at the beginning of this one, i was going through an identity crisis involving my sexual orientation. though i’d never before had a problem with being bisexual, suddenly it seemed wrong. and i started thinking: is it just that i only like girls and am fooling myself into thinking i still like boys? over the months, i came to see that, obviously, i do really like boys. but something still felt wrong. over the past month and a half i have realized that what felt wrong was not in fact my sexual orientation, but my gender identity. i like girls AND boys, but i AM a boy. i have no desire to have an operation or take testosterone (although sometimes i do get a little sad that i cannot grow a fabulous moustache); i am pretty comfortable in the fact that i am a boy with girlparts, who likes to wear makeup and dresses some of the time. and sinclair, my raindog boy, who is not straight, was the first boy in a while to really understand this about me. in fact, he mostly referred to me as his boyfriend jack, and we even got queerbashed a couple times while making out in public - which i was not happy about cos queerbashing SUCKS, but it means that even idiots thought we were both boys. and i got myself a strapon and finally got to have sex as a boy, with another boy, and it felt more right than any sex i’d had in a long time.

sorry if this was all too much info but i had to share with someone, and i feel like out of anyone, you’d understand. not cos you’ve felt the same way, just cos you know what it is like to feel uncomfortable in yer own skin, and how great it is when you finally feel comfortable in it.

Not an analysis post or even anything objective about PW, just pure opinion and venting of feelings, but I am once again thinking of the "what you could have been" potential of Roswell as the true end partner.

Roswell, the one that mirrors all of Dave's flaws, being loved and accepted by Dave.

Roswell, the one who tried to save his loved ones by hurting them, being forgiven and taught a better path by the one who hurt his loved ones trying to save them.

Roswell, the one without a future and who deep down wanted one so bad, being gifted one by the hands of the person he fought so hard to save the future of, and who almost gave up the future they had.

Roswell, the one who always thought of himself as disposable and less important, being chosen by the person who made him feel that way and who's also the most important one to him and all their friends. Now wanting to atone for the pain they caused.

Roswell, the one whose relationship with Dave was almost always strained, bittersweet and filled with as much pain as it was with happiness, finally getting to experience what it's like to have a bond with him that's only positive and based purely in trust and love.

Roswell, the first friend. The one who was there since the start. Being the one to stay with Dave at the end.

Roswell Sinclair, the broken heroic villain. Staying with Dave Halloway, the healed villainous hero.
