Summary:

Simon never expected to take a job repairing fire damage at Pitch Manor. First off, his old schoolmate Dev Pitch never liked him. And there's the small matter of it being an empty, recently-abandoned mansion in the middle of the Hampshire dead spot. But the money's good. The fridge is stocked. There's cell reception. It's fine. Except, he's starting to think maybe those stories about Pitch Manor being haunted are more than just rumours. There’s a particular portrait, too, that’s caught his eye. Some stuffed-up tosser with the most pretentious name imaginable. It keeps… Well. It keeps changing. (But that’s not possible. Right?)

I'm so thrilled to share Chapter 1 of my @carryon-reverse-bang collaboration with the amazing artist @bubble-gumhead! This is my first ever fanfic, and I'm so psyched I got such gorgeous art to inspire me! The line art that originally inspired me is in the header above (with the full color masterpiece to be unveiled in a later chapter!). I was drawn immediately to Bubblegumhead's beautiful style, and the sweet pose. The idea of including an historical element took root in my brain and turned into a ghost story. XD Check out Chapter One for an additional (?!) illustration! (Amazing.)

Stay tuned for more! I have most of the story drafted. It'll be long, but not gargantuan. XD

07-10 → The Cyberspace Administration of China announced thirteen new regulations for improving news media transparency and authentication. This includes clear display of platform qualifications and affiliations, clear citation and dating of sources, labelling of if content is disputed, include clarifying updates at the top of articles, and removal of content found to be rumor-mongering. 

→ Hogan posted a photo of Gong Jun from Go Fighting! episode 6, highlighting their shoes.

07-12 → A very tiny text announcement appeared between TV programs announcing that Legend of Anle would be premiering that evening. 😅

→ The Legend of Anle Weibo posted promotional posters of its main cast.

→ Gong Jun posted the same promotional poster of himself in Legend of Anle. Caption: “For the country, the people, and the long-term happiness, I will never change my promise for ten years.” This was reposted by his studio, added caption: “Protecting the common people also protects one person. Prince Han Ye @ Gong Jun Simon is online today, we sincerely invite everyone to enjoy the sight of Dajing together!” It was also reposted by 361°, Deeyeo, and Zhenguoli.

→ Gong Jun’s studio posted a promotional still of Gong Jun in Legend of Anle. → The Legend of Anle Weibo posted a character relationships chart. Caption: “Ten years of confusion, cause and effect linger; emotions are intricate, everything has a definite number. → Gong Jun’s studio made a new Weibo account (Gong Jun Outdoor Office) that seems to be for posting small personal promotional material for Legend of Anle. They posted a short behind the scenes clip. Caption: “Officially camping, let's start with some small materials~”

→ The Legend of Anle Weibo posted promotional stills of its main cast. Caption: “Bright and shining teeth are moving in the heart, a gentleman is full of loyalty and magnanimity, when the time comes, we will meet each other happily.”

→ Gong Jun’s studio posted a video of behind the scenes footage from a Legend of Anle photoshoot. Caption: “His eyebrows are picturesque, shining brightly. Thinking day and night, Ye is here!”

07-13 → People’s Daily posted an article announcing new measures against abuse of generative AI being implemented by seven government agencies effective 08-15 (a rather interesting choice in date). This includes regulations against infringement of portrait rights, spreading of misinformation, and manipulation of data security. 

→ The Legend of Anle Weibo posted promotional posters of the show’s couples. Caption: “One word with one heart, one glance to determine the deep love, pray for the same journey, and hope to stay together.” They also posted another poster of the main cast shortly after. Caption: “The flames of war are flying, fate is entangled, love is longing, blood is burning forever, guarding the frontier and creating a prosperous world.”

→ Gong Jun Outdoor Office posted two doodles of a glass, posted eleven minutes apart. [1] [2] Captions: “What happened to our prince's painting? The cup is a cup of juice! #Han Ye painting vs Gong Jun painting#” and “Advanced version, it's not an exaggeration to say that it’s lifelike, right? #Han Ye painting vs Gong Jun painting#” Gong Jun commented “Absurd!” on the latter post, to which the account replied “Your Highness calm down orz”

→ Dengta Data released statistics showing that Legend of Anle was the most streamed show that day. 

→ The Instagram posted ten photos of “Zhang Zhehan” and traditional architecture. (Someone’s jealous.) On a related note, whalers lost their shit trying to make excuses because the scam had repeatedly said that none of Gong Jun’s upcoming dramas would ever air. 🤡

→ The Legend of Anle Weibo posted a comedy trailer for the show.

→ Gong Jun’s studio posted a promotional poster for Legend of Anle.

→ Gong Jun Outdoor Office posted a video of behind the scenes footage of him in Han Ye’s costume from the L’Officiel photoshoot released 05-19. BGM is Lan Ting Xu by Jay Chou.

→ Bluebird tweeted about recent activity on Xiao Yu’s Weibo account, which had posted a selfie of “Xiao Yu” the previous day and immediately blocked someone who asked if Lexus was the one running the account. Anatomical comparisons and things present in photos suggest that recent photos posted by the account are from Lexus and Hewitt, and the latter is believed to be the one primarily managing the account. It has been known since last year that the scam gang had gotten access to it via the registration phone number, but they hadn’t yet done much with it.

→ The Instagram posted another cringey dancing video. Apparently this is their new story arc.

Six Sentence Sunday! Is a Thing! That I am apparently doing!

I made a header graphic and everything, so I guess I'm committed now. (Well, that and @you-remind-me-of-the-babe tagged me on Wednesday and it made me happy, so...)

I’ve been playing around with a few fanfic ideas since sometime in June, but an idea I had last week has really kept my interest. (I even have notes, and planned scenes, which is shocking for a pantser like me.)

It will regrettably be slow going, due to my unreliable vision (you can read about that here if you’re interested). TLDR: I haven’t been able to really write in the last three years due to a head injury, and I am beyond rusty. But I have to get back to writing, because I’m a writer.

Premise: “What if Baz had succeeded in capturing Simon’s voice in fifth year?” (No idea if this has been done before, but I’m going to run with it…)

Here’s a bit of Baz’s inner dialog as he considers his dastardly deeds. Not six sentences exactly, but I don't think anyone's truly counting.

I made promises to myself. That I’d stop expecting to see him when I entered our (my) room. I’d become accustomed to never seeing him, or hearing his voice, or watching him toss and turn at night, wishing… No, I was never brave enough to truly make that wish, was I. I promised myself the fulfillment of other wishes - all the wishes he so easily thwarted, simply by existing. In fifth year, all I could admit to myself was that Simon Snow was making me miserable. The reality I’d refused to accept then was simple: he’d become everything to me. And I’d despised him for it.

Snow is lying on the sofa, legs up on the cushions, staring vacantly into space. On the low footstool beside him is an empty plate with crumbs on it, probably the remnants of his beloved scones. The sunlight is streaming in through the window behind him, making his hair look like a messy bronze kindling set on fire, his mouth is in an impression of a pout and for a moment I’m reminded of a Cocker Spaniel. A ridiculous thought, I think, but then suddenly he trains his clear-sky eyes on me and the likeness of a sad and lost puppy is even more pronounced.

He’s been on a steady decline ever since he and Bunce moved in together and it’s only gotten worse. A month ago, I would have already been beside him kissing that ridiculous pout off his face and yet now I’m standing here in the doorway, a short distance that feels miles away.

His eyes are beseeching, like he wants something from me, wants something that I want to give him, Merlin do I want to, but I don’t know how.

I notice that his hair is no longer in flames and my eyes leave him for a moment and I see water droplets making slow trails along the glass of the window behind him.

Rain drops.

My eyes meet his again and I’m feeling determined as I hold my hand out to him. Come on, Snow. Don’t let me down.

And he doesn’t.

I lead him out through the front gate into the tiny patch of a garden. The rain is coming down harder, faster. I pull him in front of me until we’re inches apart and I scorch him with a look. His lips part and his eyes are finally starting to lose that vacant expression and he looks alive again. He might have kissed me then, but I'll never know because before he can I move a step back and hold out my hands, silently asking for a dance.

It’s cheesy and corny and textbook, but it’s the only thing I can think of. The only thing I have left to try. 

Slowly, he accepts my unspoken request and I slip an arm around his waist before I clasp his hand with mine. I pull him as close as I dare and he surprises me by resting his head on my shoulder, his breathy sigh an inch away from my ear. 

We dance, finding a slow, easy rhythm as the rain falls around us, wetting his shirt and making the lumps caused by his tucked in wings stand out. I feel them on his back and I take him in, take this moment in, right here right now. It’s not like in a movie, there’s no spontaneous background music but the patter of the rain. The air is growing colder and colder and the feeling of my wet suit being plastered against my skin isn’t a comfortable one and yet I wouldn’t trade this imperfect moment for anything.

We dance for what feels like hours and yet is not enough. The sky grows darker by the second and finally, the rain around us slows to a stop and so does our gentle swaying.

My vampire eyesight just manages to make out Simon’s face rushing towards me before his lips slam onto mine, both a challenge and a plea. I do my best to answer both.

This kiss, this kiss tastes like rain and sour cherry scones drowned in butter, and Simon...Simon tastes like hope.
