✍ do you have a beta reader and 💋 first kiss fics. Love em or hate em?
✍ Do you have a beta reader?
I do! Silvia ( @morbidlizard ) is my beta reader, my RP/roleplay buddy, and a damn fine artist, and also one of my closest friends, we've known each other for many years now and despite living at opposite ends of the earth (she's in Italy, I'm in Western Australia), we got to meet a few years ago, before the great panini.
Depending on how hard life is, Silvia can't always get to chapters before they're posted, and in those cases I edit along in the AO3 file instead once she's seen them. But that's only been during some truly rough years and hasn't been the case for a while! :D Together we don't always catch everything, I produce a truly huge amount of work each year for any one person to voluntarily deal with (I have offered to pay Silvia many times and she has refused every time), so sometimes typos slip by us. But any errors in my writing are always mine, and never hers.
💋 First kiss fics. Love em or hate em?
If it's a fic just about a first kiss, I think that's personally a little boring.
But I write first kisses a fair bit in longer fics that also have a lot of other things in them. I'm just not sure if they count. I've never even heard of 'first kiss fics' before. I'm usually looking for 'first fuck' fics, lmao. I'm wondering if I just auto-scroll past them if I see a T rating dsalkfjdsa

Is it true that the wet paper towel came back too? I haven't read the novel
I love arbitrarily assigned character nicknames, we all should keep using this one as much as possible thx \o/
when reading the story, the first time i went oh. he's back too is in the confrontation over Li Rong kidnapping the Qin prisioners. The entire tone and behavior of SRQ wasn't that of a young nobleman with little political experience and no prior relationship with LR. Plus, in both novel and drama his expression visibly changes when LR references the ~hypothetical~ conviction of the Su family.
The moment in the drama when you should be certain of it is when we see wet paper towel actively align with Consort Ruo (and thus the other prince's camp) and demand to be the one giving direction. Taking sides in the fight for the throne like this and that level of competence & confidence is all completely out of character for a young Su Rongqing. Why would he pick this side and plot against Team Crown Prince... unless he's seen the future?
Honestly, the way we are forced to consider the different clues to try to guess wtf is up with this bitch is why I find him such a compelling character.
What misleads at first is that initially, when first reborn, wet paper towel is working harder to Act Normal and Be Cool. And so we all think, oh he isn't into her. That can't be future SRQ!
Yet that's deceptive, because both LR and PWX discuss that the emperor would totally murder her if he thinks she was aligning herself with the Su family (because that would avail her and thus the crown prince with more resouces & power). Showing active interest in her and snatching her marriage would be incredibly dangerous.
ah HAH! you say. But future towel was pro-murder! Isn't he her enemy? ??? Well, clearly yes and no. Logic dictates that some factor must have existed in that alternate timeline that doesn't exist today. 🤔➖➗➕✖💯🤔
If we accept that this damp towel does love LR and would prefer her to be well, beside all the other machinations he has going on, then his pretence to not be interested in her in the early episodes makes total sense.
(what's clever is that once we figure out he's reborn, our instinct is to stop interrogating his behavior and assume his sole objective is murdering the crown prince in revenge for his family & penis (rip). at least in the novel, it's more complicated than that. which I won't spoil and it's probable the drama will replace the ending arc anyway so we'll just have to see what happens)
#silvia answers asks#cdrama#the princess royal#the grand princess#imo there are many neat things about this novel#but one of my fav bits was that most readers dont realize that the mystery of her murder (motive-weapon-perpetrator) is not yet solved#it took me until at least half way thru#before i realized that PWX still considered the case open#and was quietly secretly anxious about what the whole truth might be#i felt like his greatest fear (that SRQ was totally innocent) was very unlikely#but what else was he scared of#what has he figured out that i the reader have missed#as the novel progressd towards the end i started picking up this thought and putting it down again#is there really a mystery#am i giving the author too much credit for layers that arent there

I came across some old post of yours and wanted to say that the story of Rhea Silvia/Ilia being raped by Ares is not just Roman. Plutarch has written: "But the story which has the widest credence and the greatest number of vouchers was first published among the Greeks, in its principal details, by Diocles of Peparethus, and Fabius Pictor follows him in most points."
So we really should stop saying her story doesn't count as a Greek myth and accept that there is a myth where Ares rapes (but there are non r@pey versions too).
Thank you for this information, Ares fans I want to personally fight you hand-to-hand combat for not informing me of this information. EVEN THE MOOTS. I was misled. I ARGUED THIS ON REDDIT!!! REDDIT! I like actually cant believe this my heart dropped in my chest bro 😭
UPDATE: Apprently thats not true! https://www.tumblr.com/olympushit/747839630039285760/just-wanted-to-let-you-know-the-story-of-rhea?source=share

The Maria da Penha Law, A Legal Norm that Criminalized Violence against Women in Brazil, Turns 18 Years Old
Execution of protective measures still faces obstacles due to the relativization of violence by public agencies
The first legal norm in the country to criminalize violence against women, the Maria da Penha Law marks 18 years in force this Wednesday (7) with challenges to its implementation and the risk of setbacks. Over nearly two decades, the legislation has resulted in around 2.3 million decisions on protective measures, with 69.4% being favorable to the victims' requests to stay away from their aggressors. On the other hand, 6.6% of requests were rejected, and 13.9% were revoked, according to data from the CNJ (National Justice Council).
Until 2009, crimes of sexual violence were classified under the law against public morals, not as they are today, as crimes against human dignity. "At the moment, the aim is to create a comprehensive law to protect women in situations of violence. Achieving the effectiveness of the norms is the greatest challenge," says lawyer Silvia Pimentel, a member of the group of jurists who drafted the law's text.

OC Questionnaire
Thank you for the tag @wyked-ao3
My Questions:
1. if you had to pick just one enemy who would it be? 2. when did you feel safest and why? 3. if you could save just one other person who would it be?
Your Questions:
Same
The main characters (+my personal favorite character) from Gates of Hell will be answering the questions today
1. if you had to pick just one enemy who would it be?
Zero: "General Whittaker. I know he's by all technicality my great great 10-times-over great nephew, but I'll relish the day I can rip his flesh from his muscles and his muscles from his bones. I hope he lives through it too, so that he can feel just a percent of the agony his saints-forsaken bloodline has caused me."
Vivienne: "I suppose whoever ordered the execution of my dad. There are a lot of monsters out there, but if we're all monsters, who am I to choose which is the worst?"
Five: "Fucking Hayden. That little shit killed Silvia. I hope he rots in hell for all eternity."
2. when did you feel safest and why?
Zero: "It's been a while, over 600 years. I felt safest when my greatest worry was what I was going to say at my wedding."
Vivienne: "I always felt safe when my dad was home, even though he'd come back covered in blood more often than not. I was just happy that he was there, regardless of the smell of iron."
Five: "I've never really felt totally safe. Not that I'm complaining, the unpredictability is what I run off of, but I can't really pinpoint a time where I've felt 100% totally safe. Sure, Silvia did teach me how to defend myself and all that, but even then she didn't stop the small fries from beating my ass if I left my guard down."
3. if you could save just one other person who would it be?
Zero: "Five. He's the only one who makes a consistent effort to talk to me. I think the other Archreapers find me odd or unsettling. Five may call me ancient, but he's still my closest and only acquaintance."
Vivienne: "Juliette. She'd choose me too. I'd hate to pick over Ayan or Ray, but Juliette is like a sister to me."
Five: "I'd let the world burn before I let Ada die. She's the last I have of my humanity, the last chance I have of a family. That child doesn't deserve to die."

Just wanted to let you know the story of Rhea Silvia/Ilia being raped by Ares is not just Roman.
I literally went to search what you say dear, maybe it was something that slipped my mind, but now that I did I kinda understand what you say.
The Myth of Mars r@ping Rhea-Silvia or Ilia is mostly written by Roman writers, rather than Greek ones. Also, I searched a lot about it and the only mention that Ares was said to r@pe her was on modern art pieces, and found literally nothing. Also, I went to theoi.com, one of the only sources I trust, and I only found this:
I saw the word "seduced" and "Mars [ the Roman Ares]".
I haven't encountered that source you used, as it was not linked up there, but I also didn't find anything more enlightening on that matter.
I do not disagree that Mars r@ped Rhea-Silvia, but on the other hand I haven't read something tangible about Ares doing so.
Maybe I am missing something, so I kindly ask you to send me the link maybe?
I really wanna see that possibility, and I also don't want to leave your question unanswered or falsely answered!
I would appreciate the enlightenment, if it is easy for you! 😊😉

Inspired by the old amortentia ask, if each LI looked into the mirror of erised, what would they see?
Oh so you’re looking for pain, I see you anon 👀
Abel: his family, with his parents and his grandmother still alive, as well MC and his friends. If he’s your LI, then him and MC together and happy as well. At the end of the day Abel is a very simple man, and his heart’s deepest desire is his family, old and new, whole and together
Amalia: She would see herself winning an unwinnable court case, and in so doing turning around the lives of her clients who she helped. And of course, you would be there with her, cheering her on as she’s finally achieved her life's greatest dreams.
Jocelyn: She’s a simple person. She’d see herself with her closest friends and loved ones at the local Westchester Diner. She’s eating her favorite diner burrito, and everyone she ever lost is alive, happy, and good, and Westchester is safe.
Lincoln: His mama 🥺 and if you're his LI, then it would be the three of you together. Maybe celebrating Christmas together in the Philippines and eating his favorite foods.
Matthias: If he's romancing MC, it would be the two of them together in power. And Lincoln forgave him and sees things from Matthias's perspective, they have the relationship Matthias always wished they had. If he's not romancing MC, then it would be him, Silvia, and Lincoln being a happy, immortal family together.

20 (or so) Questions with De Hartley
Let's find out more about the tall, dark and gorgeous bassist of The Rebel Rejects! Are they all work and no play?
Interviewer: Delphine/Desmond, thanks for diving into a more detailed conversation with me. Let's start with your birthday – Capricorn, right?
De: Absolutely, January 9th. It's right at the beginning of the year, and I guess it adds a bit of structure to the chaos.
Interviewer: Makes sense. Do you go by any nicknames, or is it all about Delphine/Desmond?
De: Most people just call me Delphine/Desmond. You can call me De though, my friends do, and we're friends right. *saucy smirk* It's short and sweet. And I'm one of those things. *winks*
Interviewer: Indeed you are pretty tall. Got it. Wait are you flir... *intensely flustered* Uh anyways so, beyond the Rebel Rejects and the music scene, what are some of your good traits?
De: Determination, adaptability, and a good sense of humor. I find humor to be a great coping mechanism, especially when things get intense.
Interviewer: Solid combo. And what about the flip side? Any challenging traits?
De: I can be a bit too serious at times. The weight of high expectations, both from myself and others, can make it challenging to lighten up.
Interviewer: Understandable. Hobbies outside of music – tell me more about your love for cooking.
De: Cooking is a therapeutic escape for me. It's a creative outlet, and the first fancy thing my dads taught me was mushroom risotto with seared scallops. Been perfecting it ever since.
Interviewer: Sounds delicious. Let's explore strengths a bit more. Besides the music, what do you see as your greatest strength?
De: Adaptability. Life throws curveballs, and I've learned to roll with the punches. It's like a survival skill.
Interviewer: Admirable. And your biggest weakness?
De: Perfectionism. I set high standards for myself and others, and it can be a challenge to accept that not everything can be flawless.
Interviewer: It's a common struggle. Describe yourself in one word.
De: Driven.
Interviewer: And how do you think others see you in one word?
De: Reliable.
Interviewer: Moving on to fears. What’s your greatest fear?
De: *deep sigh* Failing to meet the expectations set by my dads. I want to succeed and make them proud. The pressure is real.
Interviewer: Tough pressure indeed. What are your top priorities at this point in your life?
De: Success in the music scene with the Rebel Rejects is paramount. Making my dads proud and ensuring the well-being of my friends – they're like family.
Interviewer: Speaking of family, tell me more about your relationship with your dads.
De: They're both amazing individuals – a jazz bassist and an NY Times food critic. They've been incredibly supportive, giving me all the tools to succeed. Sure they can be a bit tough on me but it's only made me realize my true potential. And they've always made sure to make time for fun family shenanigans. They're my role models and my biggest cheerleaders.
Interviewer: It sounds like you've had a wonderful support system. Future goals – what's on your agenda?
De: Success in music, of course. Beyond that, I want to explore different cuisines, maybe even try my hand at culinary pursuits. Travel, see the world – there's so much out there to experience.
Interviewer: Sounds exciting. How would you spend a rainy day in more detail?
De: Cozy at home, experimenting with new recipes, maybe indulging in a good book or movie. Rainy days have this calming effect, perfect for culinary creations.
Interviewer: Perfect. Favorite book?
De: "Mexican Gothic" by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. It has a bit of a slow start but once you get to what lies beneath, it's absolutely gripping. I could barley fish it since I was so invested...but I won't give too much away.
Interviewer: Great choice. And your favorite movie?
De: I'm actually a sucker for musicals. I think my favorite would have to be "Across The Universe" and I'm not even a Beatles fan. The music, the visuals, the artistry to take songs made wholly by someone else and then create a fully fleshed out story. The film captures the essence of the time and the bittersweet reality that people were facing, and it does it in a fantastical surrealist way.
Interviewer: Lovely. Any dark secrets or unconventional experiences you're willing to share in more detail?
De: Honestly I'm an open book. Not really a secret, but I'm adopted. It's never been a complex for me. My dads are my family, and that's what matters.
Interviewer: Beautifully put. Switching lanes, What's your best physical feature?
De: Hmm maybe my beautiful brown eyes, or my full lips. *looks from your eyes to your lips and back* Why don't you tell me?
Interviewer: Oh you're trouble aren't you?
De: I don't know what you mean. *small smile, unassuming shrug*
Interviewer: *clears throat* Could someone get me some water? Ah thank you. *takes a sip staring at De* Anyways, next question. What about your worst physical feature?
De: *chuckles* Um I don't really think I have one. *looks down at their hands* My fingers maybe they're a bit calloused and rough from playing bass and occasional cuts in the kitchen.
Interviewer: Ok, and lastly, how would you describe being in love?
De: Shared passions, shared dreams, and supporting each other's individual goals. It's not just about the destination – it's the journey, experiencing the highs and lows together. It's knowing that someone will be there for you not only to enjoy life with you, but to hold you accountable and make sure you're happy with the path that you've chosen.
Interviewer: Well expressed, De. Thanks for sharing your journey in more detail. Excited to see where life takes you and the Rebel Rejects!

Iginio Straffi Interview “With my fairies I challenge Disney” by Silvia Brena, translated from Io Donna (10/09/2005)
originally transcribed by Iku, translated by me
Straffi talks about inspirations, his wife, Rainbow's workflow in 2005, their lack of unions and more!
If Winx doesn't ring a bell, it's because you don't have any female daughters. And if you don't know Iginio Straffi from Macerata, don't miss the seven reasons (and the moral) for the success of this 40-year-old creative. Who by staying in the province and marrying a cosmopolitan manager has gone global. “Mr. Rainbow, how does it feel to be one of Disney's most hated people?” Mr. Rainbow, born Iginio Straffi, age 40, from Macerata, does not answer. “You don't feel anything at all?” “I would rather people didn't think badly.” “Tell the truth.” "All right, I feel a certain pride in having annoyed a titan. It's inspiring."
[...]
Sivia Brena: So, Mr. Straffi, who inspired you? Iginio Straffi: “Chatwin, Simenon, Sergio Leone, Ingmar Bergman, movies like Blade Runner. Do I go on?" No, stop. And let's start again. In search of the real reasons and rules behind a phenomenon. [Reason No. 1-the metabolism of speed.] IS: “The first person to diagnose it was my pediatrician. He told my mother, 'Ma'am, your son is healthy, but he has a problem: he goes at 1,000 rpm and never relaxes.'"
SB: Number of emails received per day? IS: “Approximately 200, all ‘processed.’ I attack in the morning with Japan and stop at night with the US. In between, every day is Germany, Singapore and China." SB: Yes, but many are answering e-mails all day long and have not become cartoon kings.... IS: “You want a reason? then I'll give you three. 1) We control the intellectual property of our products: that is, we own our ideas. 2) In order to defend our product, that is, our ideas, we turned them into licensing, this has granted us the rights to all our assets. 3) People working with us come from all over the world. Yes, we have been fast." [Moral: Don't drop your ideas left and right. Protect them, they are better than privacy."]
[Reason #2 - Joanne. That is, what does a tenacious woman do next to a tenacious man]. SB: Yeah, what does she do with him? IS: “She gets married. We did it at the beginning of June. She is my right hand, my support, even moral support. She was the one who opened the markets of Asia for us, who bet with me on the development of licensing."
SB: Nice statement. IS: “It is the truth. My greatest joy is in the evening, at home, summarizing the day together." SB: But aren't you a bit symbiotic? IS: “On the contrary. It's cathartic to be able to be angry or happy as a couple over a success." SB: Never a disagreement, a difference of views? After all, you dragged a cosmopolitan manager from Singapore, who studied marketing at the prestigious Madison college in Wisconsin, deep into the Italic province. IS: “Diversity of views yes, of course. She has an Eastern approach. And American. For her, hierarchy is sacred. For me it is not. She thinks a well-liked leader is not doing his job well. I love consensus."
SB: When don't you see each other? IS: “We write to each other. Emails have been to us what letters used to be. They have kept the relationship alive." [Moral: Find yourself a partner in crime and hard worker. It also helps to save a paycheck."] [Reason #3 - Trust. and shame.] SB: Who believed in you? IS: “The president of Rainbow, Don Lamberto Pigini, an over-80-year-old priest who had a printing business. With him we laid the first brick." SB: Then? IS: “Joanne.” SB: As expected. IS: “And then I work in an atmosphere of trust, it's beneficial. And do you know why? Because I'm not equipped to disappoint. Those who work for me know that." SB: Explain yourself further. Does it have to do with the shame one feels in the face of failure? IS: “It has to do with my mother, who used to repeat to me, ‘Don't shame me, don't make me look bad.’” [Moral: Re-evaluate moms; they're still needed.] [Reason #4 - The team.] SB: How much work is done in your company? IS: “A lot, but hopefully with pleasure.” SB: Is there a union? IS: “No.” SB: No because you don't need it or no because you don't want it? IS: “With us, the key word is passion. No one here is a cog. We are an 'ad personam' company." SB: Boom. IS: “That's how it is. Because everyone sees that their ideas can live. And you work together. Each series, which is developed in six to seven months, has a team of ten designers dedicated to it." SB: Do you yell with your guys? Any mistreating? IS: “I confront. I tend to explain. And I can change my mind after a chat with a collaborator." SB: Do you explain your decisions? IS: “Always. Reason for disagreements with Joanne. She argues that a decision of mine should not be confronted with the opinions of collaborators. But by character I need consensus." [Moral: Aim for the creative philosophy of consensus, helps.] [Reason #5 - Don't give up.] IS: “We went through very hard times. The beginnings, the clash with Disney who accused us of copying their Witch. But then we won, partly because we started thinking about Winx in 2000, with Rai. Witch, the comic book, came out in May 2001." SB: Did you ever feel like quitting? IS: “I didn't mostly because of the guys who work with me.” [Moral: Don't work for yourself alone; be responsible.] [Reason #6 - The creative process.] SB: How does a good idea come about? IS: “I'll tell you how Winx was born. I first got the idea from watching the Japanese Sailor Moon, the story of five little fairies..." SB: You copied! IS: “I was inspired. The creative process comes to life by processing the already seen." SB: I mean, nobody invents anything. IS: “The basic elements of narratives are always the same, the skill is in remixing them. Look at the Japanese: they did Pokémon, then Digimon, then Dragonball." (TRANSLATOR'S NOTE: Iginio probably refers to the italian airing of each show, NOT the japanese airing. We all know Dragon Ball came first, but it aired in 1999-2001 in Italy and then reran every year) SB: A master, a mentor of yours? IS: “Rodolfo Torti and Sergio Bonelli, two greats in the world of comics.” SB: Specifically, what do you do: do you sit down with a pencil in your mouth? IS: “The gestation is very long. It can last even years. I only write when inspiration comes to me." [Moral: Don't get anxious]. [Reason #7 - The Roots.] SB: Let's talk about Loreto. Strange location for a company with a global reach. IS: “We were born here.” SB: Yes, but people migrate. IS: “There's no reason for that. We live better here. We go to the beach on our lunch break. And in the middle of the green you work better." SB: Yes, but you are out of any trade route. IS: “We have e-mails, cell phones, faxes. From a business point of view, yes maybe Milan would be better. But we make it from here as well."
SB: How? IS: “We take young designers from schools like Urbino and train them internally. We hire people from all over the world, there are many foreigners, especially in marketing. They love living and working in the Marche region." SB: But do you feel like a provincial? IS: “Yes, I think so.” SB: Define provincial. IS: “When I can, I like to go to my parents for lunch on Sundays. It's a ritual, it makes me feel good." [Moral: Don't look for Zen and the art of better living in distant philosophies, go back to your own home].

thinking of matthias' motivations tonight and how they're all so deeply, deeply selfish to their core despite all the layers of moral righteousness and bullshit about the greater good he spews out of his mouth. he's delusional for a cause and he's delusional bc i think he knows no other way to be; he's lived CENTURIES with the certainty that nothing can touch him, no arguments, no moral dilemmas, bc he's blessed, he's going to outlive all these bleeding hearts and it's bc HE made the necessary sacrifice (he didn't), HE was the one who spent his life fighting the corruption (that HE caused). matthias has the whole narrative planned out and he expects the people that matters (re: him, and now rowan, and maybe lincoln) to follow suit bc if you strip all of it away, he's nothing more than a jealous old cunt who killed his brother and stole power from the source like it was the only path left to him (it isn't).
"you are quite the master manipulator," exactly baby girl, he's so good he's even convinced himself. it's a coping mechanism, it's a survival tactic. it's habit. it's breathing. it's all he is.
so of course he asks rowan to prove their love with a sacrifice. he wants them in his delusions too. he wants to share his gift, his love, and this is the only way he knows how. someone has to kill first, there's no other version of this story, not to him.
(so of course i believe he asked silvia too, bc the blood moon gave him the greatest gift he ever received, so why should his wife think differently? and i guess it didn't end well 💀)
#SOOOOOO OBSESSED WITH HIM FELLAS ARE U EVER SO FUCKING DEEP IN THE SAUCE YOU PROJECT YOUR WORLDVIEW AS REALITY#he would be one of those tiktok bitches who reality shift#matthias mcquiod#it lives within#ilw#it lives#ysa plays it lives#playchoices#ysa.txt

Writer Interview game
tagged by @damoselcastel
When did you start writing? - Junior year of high school. I had just taken to playing Awakening and was utterly enthralled by the creativity of spaces like fanfiction.net, even if they didn't have what I specifically wanted.
Are there different themes or genres you enjoy reading than what you write? - I think horror is really fun to read even if I have personally haven't written it myself. By horror, I mean Mexican Gothic by Silvia Morena-Garcia and the works of Isabel Canas in the niche Latin American historical gothic genre. I do want to play with this setting though.
Is there a writer you want to emulate or get compared to often? - I haven't been actively emulating anyone, I do want to improve my descriptions of the world around me so I have been paying closer attention to the works I have read, especially George R.R Martin because that man can write paragraphs about clothes and food JFC.
In terms of something approximating my style, I guess Dune but less abstract. I like spending a considerable amount of time in my character's headspace.
Can you tell me a bit about your writing space? - Literally any space with a laptop or phone. It's mostly my room with a bed table, but I'm not a person who is impeded much by external factors. My difficulties with writing are all internal.
What’s your most effective way to muster up a muse? - She manifests when she does. Sometimes, a meandering Wikipedia search or YouTube reactions will inspire something in me.
Are there any recurring themes in your writing? Do they surprise you? - If I wrote longer and more, anti-imperialism. Like real anti-imperialism. Third World Nationalism. I want to write more weird bodyswap scenarios.
What is your reason for writing? - It's fun! Also canon is frustratingly dull a lot of times.
What do you feel is your greatest strength as a writer? - Dialogue, internal thoughts, THEMES. I can not stress how much THEMES means to me. I write so much in service to the theme more than anything else I think.
How do you feel about your own writing? - Honestly better now than years prior. Even the older stuff fills me with some sense of pride. Could use a new coat of paint to expand on what I had there originally. I really just need to practice my craft more.
Tagging @mariyekos, @royaltyjunk, @card-queen, @serenfloras, @sunshades, if you want or not.

H.M. The Queen's speech at the symposium Challenges for implementation of new Alzheimer Disease treatments
Ladies and gentlemen Researchers
It is a pleasure to be here today at this symposium supported by the “Foundation for Gamla Tjänarinnor (Old Servants)” and to learn more about the challenges for implementation of new Alzheimer Disease treatments.
This Conference is especially important since Alzheimer is one of the greatest and most complex health challenges of our time.
Just like so many people, all over the world, I too have come to learn how devastating this disease is. I have seen closely what it does to those who suffer from it, and to their loved ones.
Ladies and gentlemen,
You are world-leading researchers in Alzheimer disease, and I am deeply touched by your commitment to this cause. You have gathered here at the Nobel Forum to go through the immense research progress we have recently seen for early diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer. For example, we will have new drugs, so called immunotherapies – a great step forward!
But as always, there is a lot more that can be done and must be done. During the years, I have tried to find ways to assist in the everyday lives of those affected. One example is Silviahemmet, that I founded in 1996, with the mission to spread knowledge about dementia through various educational initiatives. Another example is Queen Silvia Nursing Award, which is a project to promote a positive development in the nursing and assistant nurse profession, especially regarding elderly care.
It makes me happy to see further initiatives taking place in other countries. Recently, I inaugurated a hospital in the city of Forst in Germany. Forst is on its way to become the most dementia-friendly city in the country. A very impressive project.
It is my sincere hope that this meeting will bring you inspiration and new opportunities to advance in your ambition and I am sure you will have good discussions to come closer to solutions for the many challenges that lie ahead of us.
And let me assure you: I have never, ever lost hope, that we will find a way to beat the disease.
I wish you all the best and look forward to following your important work.
Thank you!
Speech held by H.M. Queen Silvia at Karolinska institutet in Stockholm on Jan. 18, 2024.
