Hi! So, I've been a devotee of Loki for about four years now, and recently, I've wanted to bring Sigyn into my practice. I have a free resources on her, but I was wondering if you have anything good on her that doesn't simply refer to her as "just Loki's wife". Both historical things or resources from those who do work/worship? If not, it's perfectly okay, I'm looking for some more on my own!
Unfortunately, there isn't much I can recommend, beyond following people who work with Sigyn. The oral tradition's always a good resource; to anyone reading this, you're welcome to add anecdotes or offer resources on Sigyn if you have any.
But when it comes down to any actual lore about Sigyn, there isn't much. The only tidbits we have are the ones you're already familiar with: Sigyn's the wife of Loki, with whom she had one or two sons depending on the source (Narfi and Vali), and when Loki was bound beneath the Earth for killing Baldr, she held a bowl above his head to catch the snake-venom that would otherwise drip upon him.
There's Sigyn devotionals out there, but I'm not familiar enough with them to recommend them.
I actually had this same exact problem a few years ago. I'd been mucking around with Loki for a few years and figured it was time to meet his wife. The problem was, I couldn't find anything about Sigyn that wasn't just playing off what little we know of her from the myths.
Eventually I decided to set out an offering and evoke her myself to see what would happen. She actually did drop by and I did learn a lot from her this way.
I recommend trying this if you have the time. It's very rewarding.

"Happy pride Month!"
It's that time of the year where we all finally get to celebrate what makes us in the LGBTQA+ community so unique! We have been here all throughout history and what's not more perfect then the proof we have through our mythological gods and figures!
Featuring characters: Njord, Skadi, Heimdallr, Loki, Freyr, Gerdr, Sigyn, Hoenir, Natt and Fulla.
Explanations down below ⬇
Reasonings:
Loki is obviously gender fluid to our more modern understanding and I feel like he is bisexual with a preference for women! Biggest egg out there. 🥚🏳️⚧️
Heimdall is polyamorus and bisexual because he slept between a wife and husband 3 times to create the 3 classes of humanity.
Freyr was worshipped by gay men, either he is queer or a huge ally!
Gerdr is non binary because their name is a unisex name used for anybody!
I think Njord is transmasc because there is possible evidence of him having been a woman or had a female form at some point before the norse period. That's where we get the name Njorun!
Skadi is transfem even though she is presented as more masculine then the other goddesses and takes on a sons role in her very own myth!
Sigyn is on the asexual spectrum since she's one of very few goddesses who haven't cheated on their lover. Personally I see her as demi!
Hoenir is on the aroace spectrum, he seems to care more about anything but having a romantic relationship.
Natt is polyamorus because she has multiple husbands and divorce was never mentioned. They have multiple kids.
Fulla is lesbian because she and Frigg share their little secrets in her box 😏
‼️ Friendly reminder that for some transgender people, you can still present as the gender you were assigned with at birth. it's just that you feel more comfortable now that you're in the right body ‼️

Welcome back to another episode of “Sudden Pagan Realisations!” Today’s realisation is;
Technically speaking, the act of “fangirling” could be described as an act of worship in itself.
Brought to you by our sponsors “Loki and Sigyn content is so damn romantic that I kick my heels up and squeal every time I see or think about it, spending months pondering if that was diminishing/overly romanticising their relationship only to realise that it’s still an act of devotion cause I’m spending time thinking about them or even making content as devotionals for them.”

ah, sigyn! if you have any tips on how to begin worship, i’d love to know, as i’ve been wanting to honor her for a while.
Hey, Nonny!
For me, I began worshipping her after Loki introduced us. It was incredibly difficult to find information on her, unfortunately. I ended up pulling most of my knowledge from the myths and what little else I could find on modern worship. I had found some interesting accounts of modern worship in localized Scandinavian communities, but I can't remember where I found that source. 💀
When reaching out to her, I'd say just be yourself and be respectful, as you would with any deity. Personally, I got her a flower-scented candle, carved her name into the wax, lit some sweet-smelling incense, and lit the candle. I've heard from another Sigyn worship that you can do a ritual where you "hold the bowl" for her, so to speak. This is done by filling a bowl with water and holding it in your hands at her altar for however long you'd like. In this way, it was explained to me that you're holding the bowl of serpent venom for her to give her a break from tending to Loki. I don't personally believe in the myths in a literal sense, but I think the thought that goes into this ritual is what matters.
I suggest reaching out to @broomsick or @notthesomefather for more information; they both have some great resources on Norse deities, although I'm unsure if they know much about Sigyn either. I know Broom in particular is huge on learning about the historical worship of the Norse deities, so I wouldn't be surprised if they have at least something for you. c:
In regards to my personal associations with Sigyn, I'd be happy to share them, but be aware that they're mostly UPG based. Here are some things I associate with her:
Wolves (for her sons, Váli and Narfi); I usually depict them in wholesome, cute, or kind ways
Serpents (I don't usually give offerings related to them, though, due to their negative role in her myth)
Otters, orcas, polar bears/grizzly bears, reindeer/deer, and sometimes moths; most I associate due to their strong familial bonds and pack/herd nature
Bowls, especially ones with beautiful designs
Intricately designed plates, especially those that tell a story or are vintage
Her name is believed to mean "Friend of Victory", "Victory Friend", or something similar to the two; I therefore associate her strongly with victory and overcoming challenges
Family, familial love, loyalty, devotion, resilience, persistence, dedication, inner strength, compassion, caregiving, patience, and fidelity ← domains I associate with her
Light-colored flowers and plants
The colors light pink, gold, yellow light blue, and earthy shades of green and brown
Objects crafted out of love for another person or creature (drawings, wood carvings, crocheted works, etc.)
Family heirlooms, especially those passed down from a maternal figure
Childhood toys, stuffed animals, comfort items, etc. (bonus points if you tell her the stories behind them and why you loved them so much)
Poetry written for or about her, art made of or about her
Defensive weapons; a wolf may not attack humans often, but it still has teeth and claws if needed (protection of loved ones is my reasoning here)
Honey, herbal teas, warmed pastries, warmed breads, soups, and childhood comfort foods
It's not a big list of things, and like I said, it's mostly UPG, but I hope it helps. Take care, and I wish you the best, Nonny! 💚🖤

Loved your shuake Loki/Sigyn art…I too am a mythology enjoyer and have thought about their parallels. I do love Sigyn as the goddess of victory despite being married to Loki, who notoriously causes chaos around him LOL. Like Joker I’d like to think Sigyn looks past Loki’s “trickster-like” tendencies and sees him for who he really is. That’s how I’ve always interpreted the basin/venom myth. But that’s just my interpretation. Always fun to talk about this stuff!
thank you! <3
and yes yes yes I LOVE looking at all the history and mythology of personas- especially Loki, because I think that there's so much stuff that links to Akechi juuuust beneath the obvious "chaotic trickster god" stuff
Like, Loki in mythology as a constant scapegoat for the problems that the Aesir (I apologise for my abysmal spelling) cause? Interpreting the Aesir as Shido's conspiracy in that context is fascinating, and you can even draw a lot of parallels if you interpret them as the Phantom Thieves, too (the whole contingent relationship for their popularities, and whatnot)
(don't even get me STARTED on all the Loki/Sigyn stuff lmao- there's just. so much to draw from that comparison)
And even on a meta level, the fact that historians really struggle to find proof that Loki as a symbol of worship even existed before christian missionaries arrived in the Nordic countries? How that could be seen as a parallel to Yaldabaoth's fuckery? good shit
(Also, Loki being "the guy who solves as many problems as he causes" in the context of Akechi 'solving' a bunch of the mental shutdown and phsychotic breakdown cases is very funny to me HA)
Point is. uh. Mythology cool.

So, I saw that you had a Norse Pagan side-blog, and I was actually curious about how you worshipped your deities? Like, do you have one altar or do you use multiple?
Also, would you have any advice for people who worship/work with deities who seem different? (For context, I worship Odin, Fenrir, Hermes, Apollo, and Dionysus) Is there a way you’ve found to make sure you’re honoring all deities?
- 🎲
Hey, 🎲! Thank you for the interesting ask! I don't think anyone has actually asked me this before lol.
First and foremost, I consider myself an Omnist, meaning that I believe there is some truth to most religions, and I personally believe that most deities do exist, in their own right. I do tend to focus largely on the Hellenic pantheon, but I like to honor gods from several pantheons every now and again, be it through altar spaces or just by saying a grateful comment aloud. I feel this is an important clarification as it may explain my more open approach to worshipping multiple pantheons.
I do worship multiple pantheons but have been less involved with the Norse than I used to be. In the past, when I was more actively worshipping deities from both pantheons (now I feel that I mostly honor Norse deities; for me, honoring a deity is like a step below worship but still revering them, if that makes sense), I would specifically keep altars from separate pantheons at a distance from each other as a way to respect that they stem from separate cultures and backgrounds. I have the luxury of being able to keep separate altars for all of my deities, not just ones from different pantheons, so usually, I would keep Loki and Sigyn's shared altar in a different location than the other Hellenic altars, as an example. Personally, I believe that if you're unable to separate them due to your living circumstances, the gods - from any pantheon - will likely understand and not be upset about it. Sometimes we just can't find a way to keep them separated or individual, and that's honestly ok. Hell, they were syncretized all the time in the past, so they honestly have probably shared altars with other pantheons before, if I had to guess.
-
When it comes to worshipping/working with deities who seem different, I suppose it depends on what you mean by "seem different". Is it that they're from different pantheons and cultural backgrounds, or do you mean a stark contrast in their personalities?
If you mean the first question, I would say the best thing you can do is research the deities you're worshipping in a historical context first then try and see how modern worshippers might go about honoring them. I would especially do this with the Norse deities because it tends to be difficult to find information on some of them, unfortunately. The Hellenic deities are much easier to find information on, especially when it comes to historical worship. If you don't want to get too in-depth or it's difficult for you to find good resources or whatever your reason may be, I suggest starting with the basic myths of the deities you're involved with then just doing some very basic research on the ancient cultures these deities came from. What were some strong values of the Norse people? What were some strong values of the Greek people? How did the Norse view XYZ issue? How did the Greeks view XYZ issue? That sort of thing. It will help you IMMENSELY in understanding the mythology of these deities as well as their roots. The biggest thing that you need to understand and acknowledge is that these deities come from very different cultures, and with that, their pantheons may view certain things differently from each other. Take the knowledge that you obtain, and apply it to your worship however you see fit; mostly, I would use this knowledge to strengthen your understanding of the gods and their cultures, especially the differences between their cultures.
For an example of how the Norse and Hellenic cultures differed, within the Norse pantheon, oaths are an extremely sacred thing. Being an oath-breaker is genuinely one of the worst possible things you could ever be - or at least, that's how the Norse people viewed the issue. Within the Hellenic pantheon, the closest comparison would be when the Hellenic gods, in myths, would "swear on the River Styx". If they broke a promise after doing so, it would come with massive consequences for them, however, within the Hellenic culture, there wasn't much emphasis on being a "promise-breaker". Swearing on the Styx was a sacred thing to do, yes, but in general, it wasn't held to the same standard as the Norse. There may be similarities between the two cultures, but they are still different, and what this information alone tells you is that the Norse gods will most likely take an oath VERY seriously, whereas the Hellenic gods might prefer more of a promise ("swearing on the Styx" was mostly used in the context of promising to do or give something for or to someone) of something than an explicit oath.
-
If you mean the second question, you would treat them as you would treat anyone you value in your life that have very different personalities: with respect and care. Dionysus may be extremely different from Fenrir, but that doesn't mean you have to become a completely different person with Fenrir than you are with Dionysus. You will have different relationships with them, sure, but above all, you should always feel comfortable being yourself with any deity. If you don't, then there's something wrong with that relationship, in some way. How you treat your deities and how you choose to interact with them is ultimately up to you; I can't - and won't - tell you what is and isn't right for you. I will say that I tend to be very casual with my deities, so oftentimes, I am the most comfortable when I am just myself with them. Some people prefer to be very formal, even getting dressed nicely in order to communicate with them, but honestly, that's not a style of worship I personally enjoy. Do whatever works best for you; there is no right or wrong answer.
-
I hope that this answers your questions well! If you need clarification on anything or have more questions, please feel free to send another ask. I'm happy to help however I can. Take care, and have a good night/day! 🧡☺️
