you know. just like with specific terms and nicknames like clanker or shinie, clones must've come up with unique meanings for their armor paint. like with different meanings assigned to colors of mandalorian armor except since the choice of color is out of their control, all the importance lies in shapes and placement
#this is obviously based on fanon as well as personal speculation but knowing that clones are such a tight-knit society#plus knowing the circumstances of their “upbringing” it wouldn't be surprising#there must be a code to everything#if we take into the account the idea of clones developing their own dialect together with incorporating combat sign language into it#i just think for clones everything matters. the words they use the body language their ranks etc and that everything would include paintjob#so like that would mean that there are specific ways you could paint ur armor that have their own meaning#like with some types of traditional embroidery or other textile arts#like an outsider would look at a clone in full armor and see a collection of geometric shapes and simple designs#but another clone would see so much more#clones could incorporate some personal designs together with more well known “universal” symbols#a stripe across the pauldron for luck. another stripe down the chestplate to signify bravery on the battlefield so on so forth#doylist: they didn't want to make adjustments to their clone models and used copy and paste#watsonian: a group of clones would collectively decide on armor pattern that would best represent their battalion#star wars

do their tails wag when they're happy to see each other?
Of course! It'd be such a waste to have dog people with perfectly good tails and not have them reflect their emotions.
The way I see it, tail wagging is a lot like smiling or laughing, it's innate to the species, even babies know how to do it and it's meaning is the same across cultures. When it's genuine it happens instinctually, but if you really need to, you can try to force or supress it. Whether or not it's proper etiquette to wag your tail depends on the situation, it's a normal part of socialization between friends for example, but on formal surroundings you're expected to show modesty and have enough restraint to control your emotions.
#it doesn't always signify happiness though#just like smiling sometimes it's a sign of agitation or excitement or nervousness or embarrassment and so on#Vasco is very waggy as you might've guessed#Machete is usually more subtle but his tail often curls into a loop when he's in a good mood#even if he manages to keep his face straight#answered#anonymous#Vaschete lore

melyzard replied to this post:
You know, given that P&P was published in 1813 before the 1696 window tax was repealed, she might just be admiring both the outdoors AND the expansive and numerous windows themselves. I mean, good windows really were a big sign of wealth and consequence until 1851 when the tax was finally repealed. But yeah, also, yeah, she's definitely more interested in the outdoors than the Great Chimney Places of the Wealthy
It's true that windows were a major status symbol at the time and long before, but I don't think Elizabeth much cares about that, in all honesty! That is the relevant historical context for Mr Collins's rhapsodies over Rosings' windows, for instance:
she could not be in such raptures as Mr Collins expected the scene to inspire, and was but slightly affected by his enumeration of the windows in front of the house, and his relation of what the glazing altogether had originally cost Sir Lewis de Bourgh
He's silly but he's not mistaken in identifying the windows as a significant status symbol (which without that cultural context can seem like just another Mr Collins absurdity). But Elizabeth specifically, as a person, is consistently not very interested in these kinds of status symbols (though she knows they're there and understands what they signify). She is attracted to natural beauty and unassuming elegance, which is the overwhelming note at Pemberley:
She had never seen a place for which nature had done more, or where natural beauty had been so little counteracted by an awkward taste.
Even when it does come to Pemberley's expensive interior, she focuses on the aesthetic dissimilarity to Rosings and, even more, about what is suggested about Darcy's relationships to other people dependent on him (Elizabeth's takeaway from the pretty interior decorating project for Georgiana is "He is certainly a good brother" and not how much disposable income this represents, say).
The fuller quote when she first approaches the window is pretty clear about what Elizabeth is focusing on, IMO:
Elizabeth, after slightly surveying it, went to a window to enjoy its prospect. The hill, crowned with wood, from which they had descended, receiving increased abruptness from the distance, was a beautiful object. Every disposition of the ground was good; and she looked on the whole scene, the river, the trees scattered on its banks, and the winding of the valley, as far as she could trace it, with delight. As they passed into other rooms, these objects were taking different positions; but from every window there were beauties to be seen.
#it's sort of like her recognizing the darcy family livery when his curricle shows up in lambton#before making out darcy and georgiana themselves - she knows what an omnipresent livery signifies#and can instantly identify darcy's which suggests she's seen and noticed it many times#but we hear about it exactly once because she doesn't actually care#and also all these other concrete signs of prestige really flow outwards from the land in their socioeconomic system as well#it's often said that the only difference between the bennets and darcys in social status is that darcy has more money but this is very wron#the difference is that he has vastly more (inherited) LAND and thus power and prestige#the money generated by that land and what it can buy are part of that prestige but only part - so for elizabeth (a member of the gentry)#it makes sense even in socioeconomic terms that she's very focused on the land; even her joke to jane about mercenary motives#doesn't mention his money—only his land#(we're told that pemberley itself generates the full ten thousand a-year so we're not dealing w/ a norland + other inheritances situation#i'd argue that the main significance of his wealth for elizabeth is what it says about his property and not the other way around#even in her first conversation with wickham she describes darcy as 'a man of very large property in derbyshire' rather than by income)#melyzard#respuestas#elizabeth bennet#fitzwilliam darcy#austen blogging#pride and prejudice#jane austen

“Knight Time in the City,” Phases of the Moon Knight (Vol. 1/2024), #2.
Writer: Jed MacKay; Penciler and Inker: Jorge Fornès; Colorist: Lee Loughridge; Letterer: Cory Petit
#Marvel#Marvel comics#Marvel 616#Phases of the Moon Knight#Moon Knight comics#latest release#Moon Knight#Marc Spector#Night Raven#sorry at the risk of repeating myself there continues to be just so much I love here#literally staring the consequences of supposed immortality and acting as an arbiter of vigilante justice in the phase#(also a bit of an interesting point considering that Night Raven mentioned that he was a veteran of one of the Ypres battles#making this also a potential parallel to the literal effects of chemical warfare on the body as well as the more metaphysical effects#of war on the soul)#and nonetheless Marc makes it clear that he sees no other path nor is he looking for one#(I don’t know if this was intentional but I appreciate the detail of the visible exit sign and open door behind Marc#potentially signifying the out that’s being offered here if Marc just turns his back on dealing justice and retreats#but as you can probably gather there’s no way Marc’s doing that)#I find it fascinating the distinction made between Moon Knight and Fist of Khonshu here too#everyone naturally might interpret such a short line differently#but I see it almost as a declaration that Marc himself IS Moon Knight and it is solely of his own indomitable will/tenacity#that he refuses to quit#the fact that he is — as some might say — condemned to never die however is a byproduct of his service to Khonshu

Sorry if someone's already made this poll I am just DYING to know if anyone else finds it hard to believe, as the show seems to expect us to do, that he entirely failed to notice both these things.
Speaking for myself, I can accept the possibility that Julian was clever enough to hide his enhancements from even a trained spy, especially given his decades of practice at it. But personally I just cannot believe Garak didn't at least suspect something was off when Julian got replaced.
#Star Trek: Deep Space 9#garashir#Elim Garak#Julian Bashir#SOOOOOOO MANY THOUGHTS ON THIS TOPIC ALL WHIRLING AROUND IN MY BRAIN I NEED MORE OUTSIDE INPUT I NEED TO KNOW IF I'M GOING CRAZY OR NOT#also look everyone I made my very first poll :3 please clap#Starky's Original Posts#this post sounds confrontational but it's supposed to sound EXCITED because it's an EXCITING topic to me!!! I just can't talk sowwy#the thing that gets me about the changeling is that they show us that scene in Inferno's Light of him discussing darts with Miles#specifically to show us that its impersonation is not flawless!! there were signs!!#unless that was just supposed to signify that it was getting sloppier as it grew closer to its goal or w/e#anyways as far as fic goes I also love stories where the changeling specifically deals with Garak by either#1) drawing away from Garak making him think Julian just doesn't like him anymore; deliberately playing on an insecurity it can sense in him#OR WORSE#2) having sex with him to distract him from any inconsistent behavior; deliberately playing on a separate but related vulnerability#SO many evil possibilities given to us.................

drawing THE flimsiest of lines between these two but idk there's something about the way they both build lies around themselves and how Hayward rewriting the conception of Paige's god parallels Faulkner telling his part of the verses. the way they both attempt to tell their stories, as twisted as they are
#the silt verses#i've connected the dots/hasn't connected shit#i want these two to meet so bad they're the only two of the main cast who haven't#they way they rewrite these stories to be more palatable or forgiving#and also the way they're so goddamn genuine about the lies they tell#where it's never out of malice or intentional hope for manipulation#like the way hayward twisted the story is soooo sick (/pos) to me but I cannot blame him#like he's RIGHT. paige should have known what she was signing up for when she wanted to conceptualize her god#(but obv I can't blame her for not knowing the full scope)#to make a god signifying a sort of revolution but to be unable to really understand what that would entail#and hayward is doing damage control#and this is the fall out. the way everyone is twisting this god into whatever works best for them#i'm going on a tangent#anyway something something the way these two can weave a goddamn story

It's just. Agh.
It's the fact that so much has happened since Roier and Cucurucho / Osito first met, there's so much frustration and disappointment with Cucurucho and the Federation itself, yet Roier still cares about and trusts his Cucurucho to some degree. He was still willing to stand at the top of the castle and let himself fall because he was so certain his Osito would appear and come save him.
But he didn't.
#i talk#qsmp talk#if anything all this does is solidify my theory that the Federation has OUR Osito on a tighter leash#He has less freedom he literally CANT come and save Roier like always#You know I mentioned how Jaiden could tell the difference between the different Cucuruchos#but I can too#and that one that laughs too much definitely has something wrong with it#which makes me think that this could be our Osito#but he's under more control#or he's being very careful about how he acts#but the laughing too much thing was definitely a warning sign#someone in chat brought up the theory that Cucurucho was laughing to signify ''yes''#and blowing bubbles to signify ''no''#I'm going to have to watch again with this in mind#agh#man that really fricks me up#tw suicide#suicide#suicide /#Technically

The Barbie movie’s got me digging back into Roland Barthes
#something about the sign and the signifier and removing#and how an image divorced from its original context and placed in a new one can have completely different meanings#a French flag in France has a totally different meaning and narrative than a French flag flying in Algeria#was I think the example he used#and I get that gerwig was pulling Barbie out of the box/ her context and just playing with her the way weird little girls do#to work out their understandings of the real world and building one they prefer#but CAN you divorce Barbie from a corporate capitalist context??#like I get why you don’t want to include issues of class in a Barbie movie#but feminist statements about patriarchy and it’s creation and its maintenance CANT exclude class#I think it was de Beauvoir who pointed out how patriarchy and private property are entertained#and I know steinhem wrote about how her middle class existence was sold to her as an American ideal but it made her and all her college#friends completely miserable#like they’d won the class lottery#but even still the system was actively oppressing them#but these aren’t really coherent thoughts#I did enjoy the depressed Barbie commercial so much I howled with laughter

I love knowing that Brett is a Scorpio rising because it explains why he comes across the way he does in a lot of Suede's early press (intense, glowering, in all black, moody, byronic, proto-emo boy, you'd be surprised to learn he wasn't the goth one in high school)
y'know, like this:
#i laughed so hard when i learned his girlfriend sam's parents referred to him as 'the vampire'#basically your rising sign signifies how other people see you#sort of the face you present to the world
