#housecrakehall of #crakehall in the #westerlands A bundled black and white boar on a brown field. House words "None so Fierce". Thos is one of those houses that has the same name of the ancestral home. Crakehall is one of the sigils on the banner for Little Walder #Frey . They are descended from Crake the Boarkiller from the Age of Heroes, which makes this house up to 5000 years old. They are legit. They have several appearances or mentions in the books. The most well-known character from the books is Ser Lyle "Strongboar" Crakehall, who fights in service for the Lannisters. Her is an able knight, and doesn't appear to be one of those shithead knights, but a true knight in the sense of the word. Jamie thinks that Strongboar is one of the few knights who could take him on in a fight. This color is #siennabrown and it was one of my favorite colors to work with. The color is a vibrant, living brown and the pencils were easy to use and the color was consistent. After a while, I had to start actively using different colors so as not to overuse sienna. #forthethrone #gameofthrones #asoiaf #asongoficeandfire #GRRM #georgerrmartin #heraldry #prismacolorpencils https://www.instagram.com/p/Bu1o1UJAgoV/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=jdsys7e1qjme

C1 - Artist Conversation - Sienna Browne
Exhibition: You Are You’re Your
Media: Canvas Painting
Gallery: CSULB Art Galleries
Website: Siennabrowneart.com
Instagram: @siennabrowne
Sienna Browne is currently in her fourth year of the Drawing and Painting BFA program here at CSULB, and also happens to be a beach lifeguard, a middle school youth leader at Rock Harbor Church and an Instructional Student Assistant for the art department here at Long Beach State. She likes to go over the obstacles in her past in her art as a way to work through them and cement them there. Some of those obstacles included multiple eating disorders and social pressures. Despite this, she manages to put herself through the memories of pain whenever she makes a piece of art that relates to it.
For the first painting, I was able to gather a very human view of it. As there are twisted and deformed people, it almost seemed as if they were curled in a fetal position or twisted by society. Along with the vibrant, almost warm colors I was able to gather that either it was meant to represent the innocence of a child and the warmth of comfort that is associated with innocence, or the effects of society on Browne. It could potentially mean both.
For the second painting, I got much more of a religious vibe from it. It depicts a god in the background, which to me came across as idea that the happiness and beauty in the world is where God lies, rather than in any objective, physical actions. The paintings both shared a lot of dots, which I don’t really see the point in.
Browne wasn’t there when I visited the art galleries, but had she been I would have loved to ask her about whether or not either painting had any specific ties to past traumas she endured. The paintings seemed to come off to me as very, very personal, so I couldn’t decipher any vague meaning.
This exhibition resonated with me in terms of the personal nature of it all. I couldn’t connect with her paintings, but I could understand that there were emotions and memories of someone else sealed within them. I very much liked the topic of the self that was being covered by the paintings, as it can lead to self-reflection and in a way made me start subconsciously thinking about my own life. Overall, it was a great experience.

Artist Conversation #1
Artist: Sienna Browne
Exhibition: The Spiritual and you Are You’re Your
Media: Oil on Canvas, 60 x 30 inches
Gallery: LSBU School of Art, Gatov Gallery West

Sienna Browne is currently a student in her fourth year at California State University, Long beach she is a part of the Drawing and Painting BFA program. Sienna Browne isn’t just an artist she is also a lifeguard, Middle school youth leader at Rock Harbor Church and instructional student Assistant for the art department at Lon Beach State. She was introduced to art at a very young age and ever since she was not able to stop drawing. Homeschooling during an early age in her life allowed her to be able to draw freely without being criticized.
Sienna Browne Paintings have strong colors within them you can see this is her painting you Are You’re Your she manages to put many different colors into this painting in the form of dots. She uses bright colors on top and at the bottom, she uses darker colors. The atmosphere of her painting is a joyful one they bring some type of comfort they are bright and big. Mark making is something that she does not eliminate from her painting because they are clearly visible. All of her paintings from her art gallery had a smooth finish to them they didn’t have rough marks to it.
Sienna Browne gets her inspiration from the past she uses re-experiencing past pain and turns that pain into something beautiful in her artworks. Sienna Browne has not had the easiest of life with the bullying she experiences during her middle and high school years and also with the passing of her father at a young age. Art is a way for her to get all her stress out. She doesn’t only use painful moments to get inspiration she also uses her believes in god as a way to paint. In her work for The Spiritual, she is exploring the ideas of how God created all things. Sienna Browne is an artist who gets her thoughts and believes out through painting.
I feel that Sienna Browne's artwork is something that I can relate to on a religious level. But that doesn’t mean that you have to be religious to understand her because that’s not the only reason she paints. She shows this in her you Are You’re Your painting because this artwork talks about different meanings behind it. I love the fact that when you look closely into the painting you can see two faces which for me represent the two perspectives that we are given in the side note. She has amazing artwork and I am truly amazed at the way she has been able to turn her pain into something beautiful it just goes to show that there is beauty in everything.

D1: Art essay 1
Artist: Sienna Browne
Exhibition: You Are You’re Your

Sienna Browne is an artist at California State Long Beach who is in her fourth year of the Drawing and Painting BFA program. Outside of her artwork Browne is a lifeguard, a middle school youth leader at Rock Harbor Church, and Instructional Student Assistant for the department at California State Long Beach. She gained a lot of her creativity when she was a child as she was homeschooled, which gave her the space to express herself creatively without any criticism. Sienna Browne uses art as a way to re-experience emotions and pain from the past to create something that is unique. Her work typically combines aesthetic and compelling material handling with nauseating imagery and themes.
Sienna Brownes paintings are typically on the larger size for art as majority of her painting are 60 x 30 inches. For her work you need to take a step back so you can view the whole picture as she has a lot going on in her paintings. They consist of an abundance of colors as it sometimes feels she is using a completely different color in every painting. Her paintings are built off of many shapes and lines which in turn makes some familiar objects such as trees and animals after you look at the art for a second. What is awesome about Brownes work is that all of her paintings are unique in her own ways, as some paintings you can easily understand what the meaning is, while others you need to think a little bit deeper to understand.
Sienna Browne mentions that when she uses art as a way to re-experience some emotions she has had in the past, which is why majority of her art is abstract as she is painting her feelings. A big part of her life has been religion, so she likes to include some reference to religion in a good amount of her paintings. Identity is a huge inspiration for Browne as growing up she struggled to find her true identity especially when she transitioned from being homeschooled to going to middle school and high school with a bunch of people she didn’t know.
I chose to write about Sienna Browne because art felt very powerful to me, as I was just attracted to all the different uses of colors. I really like her art work and I am amazed how it feels like she never reuses the same color again in other paintings. I can relate to Browne as Catholicism is a part of my life and how I struggle to find my identity. I struggle to find my identity because it can be tough to find out who you truly are and what your purpose is at such a young age, since we have only lived what we hope is a really small part of our lives. One thing I really respect is that Browne will paint what she wants and doesn’t care if she’ll receive backlash for it or not. It can be hard to do that as sometimes you want to please everyone, but in Art she puts herself first which I admire.

C1- Artists Conversation
Artist: Sienna Browne
Exhibition: You Are You’re Your
Media: Sculpting, weaving, writing, and painting
Gallery: LBSU School of Art, Gatov Gallery West
Website: Siennabrowneart.com
Instagram: @Siennabrowne
Sienna Browne uses drawing, weaving, sculpting, and painting as forms of expressing her art. She is a fourth-year student of the Drawing and Painting BFA at CSULB. Art has been a passion of hers since she was very young and when she got older art became more than just a passion it helped her cope with many situations she lived through. She uses her art to “re-experience past pain” and uses that pain to create an amazing piece of artwork.
Browne’s art pieces are large in scale and differ from piece to piece. Some of her paintings such as The self and Sylvan Streightiff were filled with vivid bright colors. She used various blues and reds and a mixture of colors to form skin tone and the background. For Sylvan Streightiff she used various yellows and greens with a mix of dark colors forming a balance between the darkness and the light. Another painting that my friend and I found interesting was right at the entrance, unfortunately, I didn’t get the name of it, but it was my favorite painting of the gallery. It was like all her paintings abstract, but we could try to figure out what was going on in the painting. In the painting, she uses bright yellows, white, green, and lavenders to create the background and hidden in the background you can see a face. She also uses dark colors such as blue, black, and green in the bottom corners of the painting to add contrast to the painting. The medium she used for these paintings was oil-based.
Sienna Browne spoke about her painting near the entrance first. She has a strong connection with religion and was inspired by Colossians 1:15 which is the image of the invisible God. She says the painting is like, “A rendition of what the portrait of Jesus would look like” in her style of painting. She painted the canvas black and then worked her way up from that. She also doesn’t see the painting as just one thing, but many. The next one she spoke about was Sylvan Streightiff which was worked on by her and another artist. The one on the left Self-Restriction is about fearful love and on the right, we see Utopian Love displaying the over-idealized perfect love theory. Saying that her artworks dealt with femininity and physicality of the human body since she has made artworks before dealing with eating disorders, she likes to show the guts of certain objects.
The artworks that Browne displayed were very personal and very interesting to experience. I’m glad I was able to see her artworks firsthand because even though I don’t share her personal experiences she gives a part of her life and herself in each artwork she creates. At the beginning of the week, I was being a little negative towards abstract art, but after going to the gallery I noticed that art isn’t just about being aesthetically pleasing but portrays the feeling that the artist wanted others to experience.

C1 - Artist Conversation - Sienna Browne & Sylvan Streightiff
Artists: Sienna Browne & Sylvan Streightiff
Exhibition: You Are You’re Your
Media: Oil paints, steel, fabric, stuffing, concrete, sand

Sienna Browne is a fourth-year undergraduate student of the Drawing and Painting BFA program at California State University, Long Beach. Besides the identity of being an artist, Sienna is also a beach lifeguard, middle school youth leader at Rock Harbor Church and Instructional Student Assistant for the art department at Long Beach State. Sienna started her artistic life as a child, and she spent lots of time creating artworks while homeschooling. However, her middle school and high school lives were not easy, she went through social pressures, bullying, her father’s death and multiple eating disorders. So art is her way of working through her past obstacles, she faces and reexperiences her past pain while creating her work of art, and her work conveys her feelings and messages to the audience. Sylvan Streightiff is an artist and an ASI commissioner for environmental justice in California State University, Long Beach. According to her Instagram, she is also the spokesperson of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) that helps people with Type I diabetes. Sylvan describes herself as a “Jesus freak” who meets a paintbrush. And her works are reflections of herself, her feelings, emotions, and understandings for life.
Sienna and Sylvan chose colorful oil paints as their main media during the exhibition, all the work looks amazingly shiny. Some of the work is made with oil paint dots, and the dots arrange and overlap each other to form some shapes. The shapes of the work are undulating, with nice and smooth edges; the lines are sinuous and yet uniform, give a clean outlook. Their work focused on putting bright vivid colors in the middle and dark muted colors on the surrounding, it’s like a rhythm or story with a main thesis, so the audience knows where to focus on the paintings. The texture of the painting is a combination of smooth and rough, some paints soaked into the canvas, and some paints stayed on solidly. The paintings in the exhibition are large in sizes, people can view and enjoy the arts from a comfortable distance, but to see the details and feel the rhythms, a close look is necessary.
The contents of the two artists’ work are reflections of their lives, their past and their understanding of life; they use colors, shapes to describe the way they see this world. In their work The Diptychs, Sienna and Sylvan painted their psychological states of mind in love, the two pieces of work have great contrasts. The one on the left, Self – Restriction, used black background to set the theme, and all the colored shapes and figures seem like sinking into the darkness, which creates a depressing and powerless feeling. And that corresponds with artists’ ideas of fearful love, with traps and untrusting. As a contrast, the painting on the right, A Utopian Love, used all vivid and bright colors to create this happy, worry less environment; as the name suggests, it’s a perfect love. Sienna and Sylvan use their work of art to explore the audience’s feelings and own understanding of certain things, their work is meant to arouse emotions, recall memories, and send out messages to comfort people who are going through obstacles.
Sylvan and Sienna’s exhibition gives me great pleasures and I can feel myself connecting to their work and their thesis. I was impressed by how their arts resonate with my perception of life. I always think that a good and meaningful life should be colorful and bright, just like the paintings shown. When I see the painting The Image of the Invisible God, I was fascinated by how the artists can paint out this ideal world I have in mind, it’s peaceful, hopeful and gorgeous. When I stand closely to the paintings, I feel myself sinking into the paints and becoming a part of their work. It is amazing how they can use only small materials to describe such large quantities of complicated emotions.
