As someone who has just beaten the Pokémon X elite four.
What’s funny about the kalos elite four is that.
Despite them being seen as one of the weakest elite four, each of them have Pokemons that require you to prepare for them.
Case and point :
Malva has her Talonflame which is problematic since ground types doesn’t affect it. And if like me, you don’t have a electric type and instead have a HM Surf Pangoro. That flying type sucks.
Drasna has her Dragalge that can tear through fairy types due to its poison typing. And even if you use a Garchomp (like me), the poison status effect is no joke.
Siebold has his Gyrados and Barbaracle. His Barbaracle is a problem due to its ground type moves (even for my Venusaur). But if you don’t have an electric type, his Gyrados is a nightmare. It knows dragon dance, and it took me 1 sleep powder and 5 vine whip from my Mega-Venusaur in order to K-O it.
And finally, Wikstrom. His Klefki and Aegislash are a nightmare. If you are an idiot like me who uses a Pangoro against him, Klefki’s fairy typing hits like a truck and Pangoro’s fighting type moves don’t affect Aegislash (who knows a fighting type move btw). My only other option was Delphox who I forgot to use for Klefki and didn’t want to risk due to Aegislash’s ghost typing. Delphox is really good against his Scizor and Pangoro against his Probopass however.
Of course, all of them pale against the mighty power of Over-Leveled pokemons.

You know me too well, Boldy~

Kalos CSMM at long last!
Siebold: So, I was stupid and wasted one of the Healthy Healing cookies to Lodge Dawn. Finally, I replaced it with Mind Games 2, so she could kinda replicate Bede's role but as a support. She, alongside SS Brendan, hastened Hilbert's needs of debuffs and offensive buffs. The stage mostly used special attacks, but Lodge Dawn has Shielded from her trainer move to protect Brendan (she also buffs Speed a little bit to keep the gauge going), while Hilbert swept the stage after 6*EX support buff. That was easy, but mostly because the team complemented each other very well.
Malva: The instruction only told to get rid of sun and bring a tank that can take special attacks--basically SS Kris, and using SS Kris means using special attackers, so...yeah. Another easy one surprisingly, and the match ended before SS Kris' first rain ran out too (Siebold sync+May finished center). Siebold didn't even need Supereffective Up Next. The Kalos Elite Four vs. Kalos Elite Four matchup was intentional.
Drasna: +1 Attack Dragon Rush dealt 564 damage to Spring Burgh on first turn, when he was buffing crit. Yikes. SS Wally and Bede missed their crit on first sync and max move respectively. Double yikes. But as long as SS Wally used his B Dazzling Gleam, Drasna was much easier to tank (still dealt 300 damage Dragon Rush, but still much better). The matching theme skills helped Spring Burgh to survive as well. With fairy rebuffs, Bede and SS Wally could finish off sides with their attacks too. Bede took the second sync, missed the crit again, but thankfully it was enough to finish off Drasna.
Wikstrom: Before Master Mode was unlocked, I tried bringing Roxanne as main tank to this stage, but she took way too much damage. So I ended up not bringing her. Not having Aura Cynthia means I had to bring defogger, so Darach, because he could help Diantha built her multiplier as well. I spent around 5-6 minutes thinking about who I should bring for the main tank, and finally settled with Calem. Calem did take a lot of damage as well even though Darach has helped with debuffs (he had to use his Endure too), but this team finished the stage safely. I have no idea what I was doing here.
Diantha: Healthy Advantage+vulnerable to defense debuffs. If you have Colress, this wasn't so bad. I have Colress at home, it's called Tech Parasect. The gauge was a little difficult to manage that I had to reset once (because Hop got flinched and frozen a lot), but on second try, Steven managed to sync for the second time before enemy's sync, and Hop got the kill. Tech Parasect had to spread debuffs even to the sides and keep them going, because Diantha has Team Stoic to consistently buff defense and the opposing team mainly used special attacks, which wasn't good for Hop. Thankfully, everyone survived, and managed to finish the stage.

Lucerne, a cousin of Lysandre. After inheriting Parfum Palace he, to the despair of everyone, started full time larping as a post-renaissance Kalosian nobleman. Siebold's boyfriend. Most of his pkmn were purchased rather than caught.

Those two Sanji and Nami pictures were floating around as edits or crops vaguely in the internet and I couldn't find what they were originally from for the life of me. The only source I saw was what looks to be a 2016 calendar, as seen above, but there's no posts about this product online.
For one, nice Nami placement *ahem* (March, number 3). Though, because I can't find who or what goes on the July month, I can't really say much about it.
Hydrangeas are very strongly associated with the month of June in Japan so the Sanji one might be nothing overly important either (especially if this picture is made especially for the calendar, and not cropped off a bigger picture).
Shipping hyperthink time! I still feel that it does have SaNami vibes, though.
The hydrangea also has a very interesting set of mixed and even contradicting meanings to it in Japan. It means "fickle", because it can change colours. The pink ones specifically also means "vivacious woman", a meaning that Japanese people adopted from foreign flower languages. It also means "patient and enduring love".
I mean, you know. Sanji makes heart eyes to many girls, but there's only one person who is truly special. Similar to the meaning of the hydrangea.
By the way, some English websites mentioned a Japanese legend involving hydrangeas having the meaning of "apology", but Japanese website specifically says no such legend exist and suggest that people in the past might have gotten it mixed up with legends from other places.
Non-Sanami related angst and drama about hydrangeas below:
The origin of the "enduring love" supposedly was based on the love story between German botanist and physician Philipp Franz von Siebold and a Japanese woman named Taki. Japanese law says they cannot be legally married at the time, but he told his family back home that she was his one and only wife.
The doctor was so in love with his wife, that he named one of the subspecies of hydrangea "Otakusa/Otaksa" (an imperfect transliteration of "O-Taki-san") after her. However, they had to be separated when Siebold was kicked out from Japan.
Japanese lore says that the two continued to love each other despite their separation, with one of Siebold's remaining letters saying "Who could possibly love you more than I" (!!!!) to both Taki and their daughter Ine. Eventually they both had to remarry other people. Even though their love story ended with no "happy end", hydrangeas became a symbol of enduring love. In Nagasaki, where those two met, people still call hydrangea with "otakusa".
Their daughter was acclaimed as the first female physician certified in Western medicine.

okay but a goofy youtuber au where the brothers finally convince Siebold to try things from the cheesecake factory over the course of a few months or something.
Cress, "welcome back to another video in the series we're calling, 'Subjecting My Kalosian Chef Boyfriend To The Cheesecake Factory". As a reminder, he also owns two Michelin Star restaurants."
Siebold, "Don't remind people of that-- they'll come revoke our stars if they find out I'm eating this."
the best compliment they can usually get out of Siebold is, "It's not offensive."
but when they get to any of the asian inspired dishes, he takes a bite and just sits back and is silent for a long time. "...I am a Kalosian chef. I am trained in Kalosian cuisine-- but! I know at least a little about Kanto and Johto foods and this...this is offensive to every Kantonian Chef on the planet-- my teachers would be mortified to know what you all have done to their foods--" and then he just goes off on a long-winded tangent that they just edit to cut in at random times with a timestamp of how long the rant has gone on for. (not the first or the last time it happens)
the very last video in the series once the menu is completed or they're all just collectively done with the cheesecake factory, they're sitting down more interview style, Cress asking, "So, Siebold, tell me: What did you think of the Cheesecake Factory?"
Siebold, "I think that when we get married, you're moving to Kalos with me."
Cress laughs. "Is that a proposal?"
"No-- I just refuse to ever be in such close proximity to a Cheesecake Factory ever again in my fucking life so I'm setting that stipulation now."
Cress, "Taking anything back to Kalos with you?"
Siebold laughs, "I was going to say my sanity, but I think I lost that by the fourth or fifth cheesecake."
was thinking about cress/siebold again and thinking about the culture shock siebold must experience every time he comes to unova to visit with cress. i bet siebold fucking hates the cheesecake factory

Sorry, I had to break this out into its own post because the reblog chain was too long ^_^;
Take this quiz to see what gym leader type you'd be!
Make your team!
Do this picrew to visualize you as a gym leader!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This was super-fun to do! I got “Water” from my quiz and while I don’t have terribly strong feelings about the water-type, I had fun designing my Gen 6 team and myself as a (classy?) gym trainer, whose aesthetic is loosely inspired by Gene Kelly in Singin’ In The Rain, and is definitely more of a costume than anything else (and yes, I did have to include my three favorite things: hats, pinstripes, and PROPS!!)
Rationale for Pokemon (besides that they’re available in Gen 6):
Relicanth is, no joke, my favorite water-type pokemon. A friend!!
Swanna kind of reminds me of Swan Lake, so needed that dance connection ☺️
Clauncher is THE BEST Gen 6 water-type. I love lobsters, so gym leader me probably has its evolved form. I know I’m encroaching on Siebold’s surf and turf in a major way, but he’s Elite Four and owns his own restaurant, he’s out of the gym game.
Gastrodon is a major cutie! West Sea because I’m more of a west-coaster than an east-coaster at heart 🤫
I’ve never been good at using Vaporeon in pokemon games, but they are quite lovable! I think it looks very graceful, and has a neat design.
Since I’m repping Kalos, I gotta have a pokemon that Mega-evolves! Never used Blastoise, I picked Charizard in X, lol. Despite how fierce it looks, this one’s extremely gentle!
If you see this, consider yourself tagged!
